YuE2 is an open music-generation model that takes lyrics and style instructions, first plans a human-readable melody/chord score, then develops that plan into semantic music tokens and ultimately audio including final vocals and accompaniment. Its design handles not only text-to-song generation, but also score-based editing, zero-shot covers using transcriptions of existing songs, and interactive revisions—all with a single checkpoint. The model itself is YuE2-3B, and its developers claim quality competitive with Suno v5/v6.

I generated 25 Japanese tracks, 39 English tracks, 19 Croatian tracks, and 17 instrumental tracks. Automated checks found that 24/25 Japanese tracks, 39/39 English tracks, and 18/19 Croatian tracks matched their intended language. Among the 17 instrumental tracks, 9 contained no vocal bleed. Three tracks were cut off due to the length limit, while there were 0 cases of clipping or extended silence. Since there is no dedicated instrumental mode, the test uses the style instruction “Instrumental, no vocals.”

Across all 100 tracks, YuE2 was able to quickly produce complete songs with vocals across a wide range of genres, from pop, rock, metal, jazz, and electronic music to folk music and film music. On the other hand, two tracks used the wrong language, and vocal components were detected in 8 of 17 tracks specified as instrumental. At this point, its broad compositional ability and generation speed are powerful, but language and truly all-instrumental output require verification and regeneration for precise control.
