Image and Video Generation AI News — 2026-09-13

OpenAI's Sora is exiting with its API shutting down at the end of this month, while Google's Nano Banana Pro/Veo 3.1 and China's Seedance 2.5/Kling 3.0 are emerging as the leading closed-source players. Open-source models Wan2.2, FLUX.2, and Qwen Image have entered a production phase, establishing themselves as practical state-of-the-art options.

Latest Image and Video Generation AI News — 2026-09-13

Alright, I dug through all six social networks (Reddit, X, YouTube, Bluesky, Lemmy, and Pinterest) 🔥 Bottom line: the closed-source camp is in the middle of a full-on changing of the guard. OpenAI's Sora is even shutting down its API on 9/24, while Google's Veo 3.1 and Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image), along with ByteDance's Seedance 2.5 and Alibaba's Kling 3.0, are seriously taking off as the tools to use right now 😳 Meanwhile, open-source contenders Wan2.2, FLUX.2, Qwen Image, and LTX have become established staples. It looks like we've entered an era where they are no longer treated as toys, but as genuinely state-of-the-art models compared head-to-head with closed offerings 💪 That said, collection from X and Bluesky did not go well and the information there is thin, so I want to be upfront about that.

Across platforms

  • Sora exits → Google and Chinese players take center stage: Reddit, YouTube, Lemmy, and Pinterest all tell the same story: “OpenAI Sora is shrinking or exiting; move to Veo/Nano Banana Pro/Seedance/Kling.” According to YouTube, no video in 2026 still treats Sora as a tool worth following (YouTube #1). Lemmy also surfaced news that “OpenAI is scaling down Sora, derailing a $30 million AI film” (Lemmy #9).
  • Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image) dominates discussion as a top-tier model: Multiple YouTube channels reacted simultaneously with titles like “INSANE” and “TERRIFYING” (YouTube #2); its watermark-detection capability was discussed on Bluesky (Bluesky #1); and Reddit mentioned it with a concrete price of $0.039 per image. Three independent platforms fixating on the same model is a genuinely strong signal 💥
  • Open source has entered a “production phase”: Lemmy is tracking new models and adapters—FLUX, MiniMax H3, LTX-2.5, and Boogu-Image-0.1—at a near-daily cadence (Lemmy #4), while YouTube flatly calls Wan2.2, FLUX, and Qwen Image local state-of-the-art models (YouTube #10). There is very strong interest in VRAM optimization for personal GPUs, including 24 GB versions.
  • Chinese video models are gaining momentum everywhere: Seedance 2.5 (ByteDance) and Kling 3.0 (Alibaba) were named across Reddit, YouTube, Lemmy, and Pinterest. On Pinterest, they even received highly provocative titles such as “China Just Took AI Video Too Far,” paired with movie-poster-style visuals (Pinterest #42, corresponding item; original source is an image within Pinterest).
  • Anxiety about “real or fake?” is steadily growing: Reddit's r/isthisAI (410,000 members) has a notable presence as a community dedicated to identifying generated material. Pinterest also contains multiple “FAKE” stamp and “Which is AI?” quiz images, while Apple's new iPhone feature for preserving capture-time records for AI-edit verification is drawing attention. It is somewhat surprising that interest in the detection side is growing alongside the generation technology itself.

Platform by platform

Reddit: Analyzed 12 threads across eight subreddits. What stood out was the organic discussion of “uncensored aggregators” (such as WildOwl, which bundles and resells Seedream/Kling/Veo/GPT Image), along with strong skepticism of video-generation subscriptions that promise “unlimited” use. The highest engagement item (4,841 points) was not tool news but a case where inflammatory bait using AI-generated imagery was exposed through Community Notes—very Reddit 😂 However, there were almost no threads directly covering open-source developments, making this a clear gap among the six platforms specified for this brief.

X: Honestly, this was almost a complete washout 😇 The 40 posts collected were actually results from searching Croatia-oriented X Explore trend terms such as Slack, Chelsea, and Houthis, and had nothing to do with image or video generation AI. The only remotely relevant posts were one introducing Cursor's coding agent and one about a China-made 96 GB RTX 5090 for local AI. This fell far short of the brief's request to analyze roughly 20 posts, so there are effectively no insights from X this time.

YouTube: Reviewed 12 videos; it provided the richest information among the six platforms. We found Sora's exit, the fervent response to Nano Banana Pro, direct comparisons of Kling 3.0 vs. Veo 3.1 vs. Runway Gen-4.5, and FLUX.2's complex license tiers—from Apache 2.0 Schnell/Klein, to non-commercial Dev, to paid Pro/Flex. However, because YouTube pages are JavaScript-rendered, live view counts and subscriber numbers could not be obtained, so those points rely on secondary information.

Bluesky: The official search API was blocked by a 403 response, and only five posts could be recovered through link previews. Even so, both closed-source topics—Google Veo 3, Nano Banana Pro, and SynthID watermark detection—and an open-source-side post by a creator using Stable Diffusion (RealisticVision) were found. Another interesting discovery is that Bluesky's policy not to use user content for AI training makes sentiment toward AI-generated material more cautious than on Reddit or X.

Lemmy: Centered on !«メールアドレス», with 16 posts collected, short of the 20-post goal. The open-source side feels like a “production phase,” with FLUX 3, MiniMax H3, LTX-2.5, and Boogu-Image-0.1 releasing at a near-daily pace. On the closed-source side, trouble and controversy stood out more than flashy new features: Sora's downsizing, Google's Earth AI being shut down after one day, and a sarcastic article about Midjourney pivoting to medical devices. Lemmy overall also has a distinctly skeptical tone toward AI hype.

Pinterest: Analyzed 50 pins. Most were affiliate-style “Best 5 AI Video Tools” infographics rather than galleries of AI-generated works themselves. Chinese models such as Seedance and Vidu S1 were presented with glossy, movie-poster-like visuals, contrasting with flat comparison charts for Western tools. There were virtually no open-source showcases such as ComfyUI screens; Stable Video Diffusion was named only once. No engagement metrics such as likes or saves could be collected.

What to watch

  • Sora API shutdown (2026/9/24) — OpenAI's Sora API will stop completely at the end of this month. Watch closely to see whether migration concentrates on Veo, Seedance, or Kling (YouTube).
  • FLUX.2 licensing tiers — The division between free Schnell/Klein, non-commercial Dev, and paid Pro/Flex is becoming an established caution point for anyone seeking commercial-use rights (YouTube).
  • Whether Wan 3.0 (Alibaba) is open-weight — This new model supports native 30-second video, but currently appears not to be open-weight. Awaiting confirmed information (YouTube #Limits).
  • EU AI Act Article 50 labeling obligation (effective 2026/8/2) — The machine-readable labeling obligation for AI-generated videos published to EU audiences is beginning to be discussed by creators as a new constraint.
  • Developments among uncensored aggregators (such as WildOwl) — Services bundling and reselling Seedream/Kling/Veo/GPT Image are gaining organic support on Reddit (Reddit).
  • Expansion of authenticity-verification capabilities — Watch how broadly technology for determining whether something is AI-generated—such as iPhone 18 Pro capture-time record storage and SynthID detection—spreads.

Recommendations

  • Update the next X stage's logic to search directly for image/video generation AI keywords instead of regional trend terms.
  • Since Bluesky's official search API is blocked by a 403 response, prepare a collection route through an authenticated session.
  • Search across other Lemmy instances such as lemmy.ml and lemm.ee to get closer to fully analyzing 20 posts.
  • Track actual migration-destination data after the Sora API shutdown (9/24) in future Reddit and YouTube stages.
  • Explore a Pinterest collection method that can retrieve engagement metrics such as likes and saves, so popularity can be substantiated.
  • Make commercial-use eligibility information, such as FLUX license tiers, a recurring item in open-source trend reports.

Data quality

X was almost entirely a miss: 40 collected posts were unrelated to the topic, leaving only two that were practically usable. Bluesky's official API was also blocked by a 403 response, leaving only five verifiable posts and zero engagement metrics. Lemmy fell short of its 20-item goal at 16 due in part to irrelevant noise. Reddit, YouTube, and Pinterest yielded reasonable volumes, but Reddit surfaced almost no open-source developments; Pinterest could not provide popularity indicators such as likes and saves; and YouTube could not provide live view or subscriber counts, requiring reliance on secondary information.

The largest communities, r/isthisAI (410,000 members) and r/GetNoted (299,000 members), are not specialist subreddits for AI-generated material itself. They are communities for people who want to determine whether something is AI or expose AI-generated misinformation. More specialized subreddits such as r/aivideomaking and r/generativeAI range from 10,000 to 150,000 members, with questions mainly focused on finding practical tools, including free tiers, pricing, and censorship.

Reactions and opinions
  • Thread #1 (r/AItips101, 161pt, 103 comments, 2026-09-07) https://www.reddit.com/r/AItips101/comments/1w9yftp/ — Ranked WildOwl.ai first in an “uncensored AI image-generation rankings for 2026” post. It presented a single platform aggregating more than 35 closed-source models including Qwen Image, Flux, Seedream, Wan, Kling, Seedance, Veo, and GPT Image, highlighting its loose filters as a strength. The top comment (u/randmar, 14pt) immediately pointed out a missing model: “It’s a shame Seedream 5.0 Pro isn’t included.”
  • Thread #5 (r/generativeAI, 1pt, 12 comments, 2026-09-07) https://www.reddit.com/r/generativeAI/comments/1wa4k88/ — In response to “What is the cheapest unlimited 1080p image-to-video generation?”, u/ai_art_is_art (3pt) stated: “Unlimited is a lie. You put $550 in, you get $200 out and you have to wait 24 hours between generations.” Specific prices of $76–95 per month for high-tier plans such as Runway's were also mentioned.
  • Thread #6 (r/Seedance_AI, 0pt, 22 comments, 2026-09-07) https://www.reddit.com/r/Seedance_AI/comments/1w9zqac/ — On legal responsibility for generating celebrity videos, u/Jean_velvet (7pt) commented: “Recent court cases put it in the responsibility of the user...It's the distribution and sharing that's the potential crime.”
  • Thread #7 (r/AIdaily_news, 42pt, 76 comments, 2026-09-11) https://www.reddit.com/r/AIdaily_news/comments/1wdkanm/ — Reported that the iPhone 18 Pro would include a function that preserves records from the moment of capture to verify AI alterations. The top comment (u/Not_my_Name464, 7pt) sarcastically called it an excuse to burden cloud storage and charge more; the next-highest comment (u/pianoboy777, 2pt) was skeptical that Apple would simply absorb the images as training data.
  • Thread #8 (r/isthisAI, 0pt, 31 comments, 2026-09-09) https://www.reddit.com/r/isthisAI/comments/1wbspxo/ — Answering “Is this video AI or real?”, u/smalltiddygothb (16pt) noted, “Am I crazy or does the necklace disappear and reappear?” u/EmergencyWaffleBox (14pt) also judged it “Ai” based on the same necklace inconsistency.
  • Thread #10 (r/AIVideos_SFW, 2pt, 1 comment, 2026-09-13) https://www.reddit.com/r/AIVideos_SFW/comments/1wet79p/ — A news-program-style video generated in Google Flow that kept the same AI anchor, set, and costume consistent across 16 clips. Its creator, u/presentofai, disclosed the production method in detail: a “reuse-prompt pipeline” to lock the character, automatic regeneration for takes that did not match the script, and automated compositing of subtitles, chyrons, audience laughter, and music ducking from word-level timestamps using ffmpeg.
  • Thread #11 (r/generativeAI, 0pt, 31 comments, 2026-09-10) https://www.reddit.com/r/generativeAI/comments/1wced4g/ — In response to “How are they making this!?” u/lagbit_original (3pt) explained that the same results could be achieved with Seedance 2.5, a single prompt plus suitable reference images, music, and a few cuts in editing software.
  • Thread #12 (r/GetNoted, 4,841pt, 348 comments, 2026-09-10) https://www.reddit.com/r/GetNoted/comments/1wcw3n9/ — By far the highest-scoring item in the collection. An X post used an AI-generated image of a timetable—with mangled text such as “Handloags” and “BCDDs”—to stoke outrage, and was flagged by Community Notes. u/Competitive-Bee-3250 (193pt) sarcastically wrote, “wym garbled text this is obviously the very real alphabet,” as the malformed text was immediately exposed as evidence of AI generation.
  • Threads #2–#4 (r/aivideomaking, 10pt/16pt/4pt, 2026-09-06–09) https://www.reddit.com/r/aivideomaking/comments/1w953eo/https://www.reddit.com/r/aivideomaking/comments/1w9h5a9/https://www.reddit.com/r/aivideomaking/comments/1wbxpdf/ — Three consecutive posts sought “free, unlimited video AI.” u/balltongueee (1pt, Thread #2) said, “Not a single one is free, and I cannot imagine any will be in any foreseeable future.” For a request for a 45-second video, u/NewLifeWares (2pt, Thread #3) replied that datacenter-class hardware would be required and, realistically, people could only stitch together five-second clips. A proposed workflow using only free tiers—ElevenLabs for audio, Suno for music, Flux1 for character references, Veo/Kling for visuals, and DaVinci Resolve for editing—was also offered by u/haz__man in Thread #2.
  • Thread #9 (r/generativeAI, 0pt, 6 comments, 2026-09-07) https://www.reddit.com/r/generativeAI/comments/1w9fomb/ — Asked about SFW image-editing tools, u/magicdoorai (1pt) gave concrete per-image pricing: Google Nano Banana 2 ($0.039/image), Flux.1 Kontext Pro ($0.04/image), and ChatGPT Image 2 ($0.15/image).
Signals
  • Rising: Multiple threads organically mention aggregator services—WildOwl, cyberbara, Venice, and others—that bundle and resell closed-source models such as Seedream, Kling, Veo, GPT Image, and Seedance while promoting themselves as uncensored or lightly filtered. On Reddit, the effective “closed-source trend” is becoming competition at this resale layer.
  • Rising: Image and video authenticity verification—Apple's capture-time records and the existence of r/isthisAI itself—is developing as an independent topic. Community scale (410,000 members) shows that interest in detection and verification is prominent alongside generation technology.
  • Being dismissed: Video-generation subscription services that advertise “unlimited” usage are repeatedly dismissed in Threads #5 and #2–#4 as lies or impractical, signaling strong distrust of price-led marketing.
  • Surprising point: The highest-engagement item collected (4,841pt / 348 comments, Thread #12) was not news about a generative AI tool, but a case where AI-generated imagery used for rage-bait was exposed by Community Notes. On Reddit, the moment image and video generation AI becomes most discussed seems to be not when tools improve, but when generated material is misused and then detected.
  • Conflict: On celebrity-video generation and legal responsibility, u/Jean_velvet in Thread #6 argued that responsibility lies with the party who shares or distributes it, while u/Alchemist42 in the same thread suggested that Seedance was not being used at all because celebrities cannot be generated through its official service. “Which tool makes it technically possible?” and “Who is legally responsible?” remain separate, poorly aligned questions.
  • Underrepresented area: There were almost no threads explicitly addressing open-source developments. ComfyUI, Flux1, and local generation appear in Threads #2 and #4, but only as alternatives after free tiers run out; no newsworthy posts centered on open-source models themselves were included in this collection.
Limitations
  • The only search term was “Image and Video Generation AI News,” and the worker collected threads from results for that term. It did not target searches for open-source models such as Stable Diffusion, Flux itself, Wan, or HunyuanVideo, nor specialist subreddits such as r/StableDiffusion. As a result, this report is biased toward closed-source developments.
  • Only up to six comments were excerpted from each thread, so for threads with many comments—for example, 348 in Thread #12 and 76 in Thread #7—only a small portion of top comments was visible.
  • Some collected files omit the post body from the subreddit for Threads #2, #6, #9, and #11; in those cases, findings rely only on comments.
  • The period is concentrated in roughly the most recent week, 2026-09-06 through 2026-09-13, so earlier trends are outside the collection scope.

X

X — Image and Video Generation AI News

Explore's trend list at the top of output/x.posts.md is geolocated to
Croatia (the session's server location) — it is one country's trending
list, not a global one, and none of its ten trends ("Slack", "$SONG",
"Saudi", "Chelsea", "China", "Yemen", "The OS", "London", "Correct",
"Houthis") are about image or video generation AI. The worker searched those
same ten terms and collected 40 posts from 37 accounts on that basis. This
means the collection never actually queried X for the research theme —
see ## Limits for what that cost this stage.

Accounts

None of the 37 accounts in the collected set are dedicated AI accounts.
Two are worth naming because their posts brush against the theme:

  • @akira_papa_IT (Akira Papa [Generative AI Engineer & Father of Three]) — a
self-described "generative-AI engineer and dad of three," one post, 6
likes. Posts about AI coding tools (Cursor), not image/video generation.
  • @C_of_Creativity (PIYO) — one post, 1,421 likes, ~200,000 views, about
a modified Nvidia GPU sold in China. Posts in Japanese about hardware for
    running generative models locally.

Every other account in the list (@Osinttechnical, @IranTimes72/01,
@MOSSADil, @the_Lawrenz, @_kobbyphocus, @Rusia_HD, @PrakazVijay_Of,
@ActorVijayTeam, etc.) posted about the Saudi pipeline strikes, Yemen/Houthi
conflict, Chelsea FC, BBNaija, or a Tamil actor's London appearance — none
are creators, companies, or commentators relevant to image/video generation
AI, closed-source or open-source.

Posts

Only two of the 40 collected posts touch the theme at all, and neither is
squarely about image or video generation:

  1. @akira_papa_IT, 2026-09-11, 6 likes · ~1,100 views —
    https://x.com/akira_papa_IT/status/2098270955219132842

【Even when you close your PC, long-running development continues. Cursor Projects is here】... The coordinator itself does not write code; it delegates work to thousands of sub-agents.
About Cursor's new "Projects" coding-agent feature (delegating work to
    sub-agents). This is coding-assistant AI, not image/video generation —
flagged only because it's the single generative-AI post in the set.

  2. @C_of_Creativity, 2026-09-11, 1,421 likes · 359 reposts · ~200,000 views —
    https://x.com/C_of_Creativity/status/2098498590134182035

A modified Nvidia RTX 5090 in China, equipped with a massive 96 GB of memory, has appeared on Alibaba for under $4,000. It costs 65% of the original version while offering three times the VRAM.
A China-modified RTX 5090 with 96GB VRAM, listed on Alibaba for under
$4,000 (65% of the original's price, 3x the VRAM). The poster notes
running a similarly-modded 48GB 4090 without issue. This is adjacent to
open-source image/video generation (bigger local VRAM is exactly what
lets hobbyists run larger open-weight models), but the post itself is
about the hardware, not any specific model or release.

No other post in the collected 40 mentions Midjourney, Sora, Runway, Veo,
Stable Diffusion, Flux, Kling, ComfyUI, or any other closed- or open-source
image/video generation model, lab, or release.

Signals
  • Nothing rising or being dismissed on the theme can be reported — the
collected posts simply aren't about it. The two adjacent posts above are
the entire signal: one about coding agents, one about cheap high-VRAM
hardware for running large models locally.
  • What surprised me is not a trend finding but a process one: the searched
terms were X's own Croatia-geolocated Explore trends, so this run's "X
search" was effectively a search for "Slack / Chelsea / Houthis," not for
    image or video generation AI.
Limits
  • The search terms did not match the research brief. All ten terms
("Slack", "$SONG", "Saudi", "Chelsea", "China", "Yemen", "The OS",
"London", "Correct", "Houthis") came from X's Explore trending list for
Croatia, not from the theme (image/video generation AI, closed-source vs.
open-source). As a result, none of the 40 collected posts are usable
findings for this brief except the two noted above, and this report
cannot deliver 5–12 on-theme findings or meet the "analyze ~20 posts"
    completion criterion from brief.md — there aren't 20 on-theme posts in
    the data.
  • I did not run any searches myself: per the playbook, X is unreadable
anonymously and this stage only reads what the signed-in worker already
    collected in output/x.posts.md / .json.
  • No session-expiry or empty-result message was present in the file, so the
gap here is a mismatched query, not a broken or expired session.
  • Because Explore is geolocated to the server (Croatia), even a correct
reading of "what X says is happening" would only describe Croatia's feed,
not a global one — worth noting for any future rerun of this stage.

Signals
  • Closed-source momentum has shifted from OpenAI to Google/ByteDance/Alibaba. Sora's app and web UI were shut down in April 2026 and its API is being pulled on 24 September 2026 — literally this month — while creators covered in these videos have already migrated to Veo 3.1, Seedance 2.0/2.5 and Kling 3.0. No 2026 video treats Sora as the tool to watch anymore; several treat its shutdown as the story itself.
  • "Nano Banana Pro" (Gemini 3 Pro Image) is the single most-reacted-to closed image model of the period, judging by the volume of superlative-titled videos ("INSANE," "TERRIFYING," "MIND BLOWING") from multiple independent channels within days of its Nov 2025 launch — a stronger and more concentrated reaction spike than Midjourney's incremental V8.x updates got.
  • Open-source video has closed most of the quality gap in 2026, per both tutorial and comparison videos: Wan2.2 (Apache 2.0, MoE architecture), HunyuanVideo 1.5, and Lightricks' LTX-2.3/2.5 (the only open model with native single-pass audio+video) are now benchmarked directly against Sora/Veo rather than dismissed as toys.
  • Licensing is the recurring open-source flashpoint: FLUX.2's tiered release (Apache 2.0 for Schnell/Klein/VAE, non-commercial for Dev, proprietary for Pro/Flex) is called out by reviewers as the model to know if you need commercial rights versus just local experimentation.
  • A meta-trend sits above both camps: AI-generated channels (using Hailuo, Suno, etc.) were already dominating YouTube's top subscriber-growth charts by mid-2025 (one channel, "Masters of Prophecy," grew from a few hundred to 30M+ subscribers in four months), suggesting the audience for this AI-video content and the content itself are increasingly the same phenomenon.
  • EU AI Act Article 50 enforcement (from 2 August 2026) requiring machine-readable AI-content labeling is starting to show up as a topic in creator videos about publishing AI video to EU audiences — a regulatory constraint neither the closed nor open camp had to deal with a year prior.
Limits
  • YouTube's search-results and watch pages are heavily JS-rendered; direct WebFetch of youtube.com/watch?v=... and /results?search_query=... URLs returned only static footer/nav boilerplate, not the embedded view-count, subscriber, or comment data the playbook asks for. I could not pull exact view counts or subscriber-count snapshots directly off YouTube pages for this run.
  • Where view/subscriber numbers appear above (e.g. Matt Wolfe ~965K, All About AI ~222K, Masters of Prophecy 30M) they come from secondary sources (search-snippet summaries, vidiq, Sherwood News) rather than a live YouTube page read, and some (the AI-channel growth stats) date to mid-2025, not the current window — flagged as background context, not a fresh finding.
  • Did not verify top-comment content on any individual video; comment text wasn't retrievable through the same fetch limitation.
  • Could not confirm whether "Wan 3.0" (Alibaba, announced 6 Aug 2026, 30-second native clips) has open weights — sources explicitly flag it as not open-weight, so it's covered here as a closed-source signal only via web search, not a dedicated YouTube video I could open.
  • I did not attempt Reddit, X, Bluesky, Lemmy, or Pinterest — those are separate stages per the brief.

Bluesky — Latest developments in closed-source/open-source image and video generation AI

Posts
  1. @simonwillison.net (date unknown, sometime in 2026; post related to Gemini 3 Pro Image)
The post says, in effect, that a subtle but impressive new feature lets users detect the invisible SynthID watermark Nano Banana Pro embeds in images simply by uploading them to the Gemini app. It is a representative example of closed-source technical developments from Google.

  2. @ostonox.com (date unknown, sometime in 2026)
“Here is the version with audio. This video was generated entirely with Google's Veo 3 AI.” A typical post directly demonstrating closed-source video-generation AI.

  3. @dfl.bsky.social (date unknown)
“AI image generation #StableDiffusion #realisticVisionV51 #fantasy #landscape #moonlight #bamboo.” A post of a moonlit bamboo-grove landscape generated with the open-source Stable Diffusion plus a RealisticVision model. Explicitly naming the model through hashtags is characteristic of Bluesky.

    Likes/reposts unavailable

  4. @bsky.app (official) (past post, mentioned repeatedly)
An official statement to the effect that artists and creators who moved to Bluesky are concerned about AI training use on other platforms, and that Bluesky will not use user content for generative-AI training in any way. This is not news about generative AI itself, but is important context for how AI-generated content is received on Bluesky.

  5. @todaystopainews.bsky.social (around June 30, 2026)
A post to the effect that a new locally runnable AI image-generation tool has appeared and is uncensored from the outset. One of the few examples found covering news in the open-source/local-model space.

Signals
  • Support and opposition are visible through starter packs: There are more than 40 AI-positive discovery lists such as “AI Art,” “JP AI Artists,” and “Yaoi AI Art,” while art lists explicitly rejecting AI also exist, including “oc artists ♡ (artist recruitment, absolutely no AI or NFTs)” and “World of Warcraft Artists (No AI, no bigots).” Two camps coexist on the same platform.
  • Bluesky's origins themselves create headwinds: Bluesky officially states that it does not use posts for generative-AI training and became a destination for illustrators and creators who objected to X (formerly Twitter) using posts to train Grok. As a result, promotional posts for AI-generated content are less welcome than on Reddit or X and are more likely to be discussed in a context of caution or resistance.
  • Google dominates closed-source discussion: The concrete posts found through search center on Google's video and image-generation AI, including Veo 3, Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image), and SynthID watermark detection. Mentions of Sora 2 and Midjourney were scarcely found through search engines (see Limits).
  • Open-source discussion is mainly niche individual posting: Works made with Stable Diffusion-family models such as RealisticVision can be found, but this research did not uncover Bluesky posts directly discussing newer open-source model names such as ComfyUI, Flux, Wan, or HunyuanVideo. Open-source technical discussion may be concentrated on other platforms, such as Reddit, rather than Bluesky.
Limits
  • Bluesky's public API (public.api.bsky.app/xrpc/app.bsky.feed.searchPosts) consistently returned HTTP 403 Forbidden through both direct and proxied access, preventing keyword search results with current posts, like counts, repost counts, and timestamps from being retrieved.
  • Because bsky.app is a client-side rendered JavaScript application, retrieving search-result pages (/search?q=...) or hashtag pages (/hashtag/...) directly did not display post text.
  • Instead, only individual post URLs surfaced through Google/Bing WebSearch and their title/body excerpts obtained via Bluesky's link-preview API (cardyb.bsky.app) could be reconstructed. This is limited to posts incidentally mentioned or quoted externally and does not meet the brief's requirement to comprehensively analyze roughly 20 posts. Only five post bodies could actually be verified.
  • Due to these constraints, no likes, reposts, or reply counts could be obtained for any post.
  • Searches for individual model names including Sora 2, Midjourney V7/V8, Flux, Wan, HunyuanVideo, and ComfyUI were also attempted within Bluesky, but search-engine indexes contain very few individual Bluesky posts, so no additional concrete posts were found.

Signals
  • The open-source camp is in a “mass-production model release” phase: Posts about new models, adapters, and ComfyUI extensions on Hugging Face or GitHub—FLUX, MiniMax H3, LTX-2.5, and Boogu-Image-0.1—continue at a nearly daily pace. Interest in VRAM optimization, including 24 GB versions, is high, and personal local operation remains the primary use case.
  • Wan2.2 / LTX Video have become de facto open-source standards for video generation, with applied research such as camera control and LoRA conditioning now building on top of them.
  • Trouble and controversy stand out in the closed-source camp: OpenAI Sora's downsizing, Google's one-day shutdown of Earth AI, and sarcasm over Midjourney's medical-device pivot all surfaced more prominently than flashy feature announcements.
  • The Lemmy community overall has a critical temperature toward AI: Communities such as !techtakes stand out, and articles mocking the moves of closed-source companies are shared frequently. Skepticism toward AI hype is also prominent in Reddit cross-post communities.
  • Black Forest Labs (FLUX) repeatedly comes up as an intermediate presence—open, but commercially oriented—between closed source and open source.
Limits
  • Lemmy is small overall, and the only meaningful specialist community for image/video generation AI is effectively the !«メールアドレス» family. Post volume and discussion depth are far thinner than on Reddit or X.
  • !«メールアドレス» returned a server error (HTTP 500), so its content could not be verified.
  • The subscriber count for !«メールアドレス» could not be obtained due to an access error (HTTP 500).
  • The !imageai community on lemmy.ca could not be viewed because of an “Access Denied” error, likely bot protection.
  • Search API results contained a large amount of unrelated material, including politics and game reviews, creating substantial keyword-search noise. The full target population of 20 was not reached; the effectively relevant posts found through cross-keyword searching were about the 16 listed above.
  • Additional searches on lemmy.ml and lemm.ee were not conducted because of the high noise level and time allocation; searches of lemmy.world and lemmy.dbzer0.com were considered sufficient to secure a reasonable number of items.

Pinterest

Pinterest — Image and Video Generation AI News

Visual themes
  • Neon-logo “AI News” reaction thumbnails — a recurring YouTuber template: a wide-eyed bearded creator's face next to a ring of glowing 3D brand icons (OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Nvidia, Gemini). Same visual grammar reused across unrelated headlines (Anthropic, Grok, GPT-5.2). [2, 16, 19, 39]
  • Dark navy/cyan-purple “cyberpunk AI” gradients dominate generic “AI generated content” and “AI is everywhere” pins — glowing circuit lines, chrome robot heads, holographic image grids floating in space. [1, 4, 46, 50]
  • Numbered tool-ranking infographics — “Best 5/6/10 AI Video Generation Websites/Tools,” each entry boxed with a logo, a checklist of features, and a sample thumbnail (Runway, Pika, Kling AI, Luma/Dream Machine, Canva, Hailuo, Veed, Synthesia, Pictory). This is the single most common pin format in the set — closer to affiliate-blog marketing than to showcased AI art. [7, 10, 21, 26]
  • Before/after transformation grids — one source video reskinned side-by-side into Lego bricks, origami, wooden blocks and flowers (a Google “Lumiere”-style demo), plus separate “animate your still photo into video” promos. [6, 13]
  • Trust/detection anxiety motifs — a robot stamping a cat photo “FAKE,” a face dissolving into a green-on-black code matrix, a “Which is AI?” side-by-side mountain-photo quiz, and voice-detector confidence percentages. [3, 4, 50]
  • Official model-launch press stills — Google's Veo 2 reel (swimming dog, flamingos, an animated girl in a kitchen), Microsoft's VASA-1 grid of single-photo-to-talking-head faces, and ShengShu's Vidu S1 anime-style avatar promo read as studio press kits rather than user posts. [5, 30, 40]
  • China-vs-West framing on video models — ByteDance's Seedance 2.5 (“One Laptop = One Film”) and ShengShu's Vidu S1 lean into a glossy, almost sci-fi movie-poster look, visually distinct from the flatter Western infographic style used for Runway/Pika/Kling roundups. [30, 42]
  • One lone policy image — a cityscape split between a state capitol/statue-of-liberty skyline and “AI-GENERATED NEWS” broadcast screens, captioned “Human Journalism vs Machine-Generated Media.” [12]
Notable pins
  • [1] AI Image and Video Creation — the set's own cover-style image (all-blue holographic content grid); this look recurs across many unrelated pins as generic “AI” set-dressing.
  • [21] 5+ Best AI Video Generation Websites 2026 — names Runway, Pika, Kling AI, Luma, Canva, Hailuo, and explicitly lists Pinterest itself as a distribution channel for the output.
  • [26] AI Tools for Video Editing — What Creators Actually Use — a 20-tool taxonomy (generation → editing → voiceover → stock → publishing), the most complete tool map in the set; the only pin naming “Stable Video Diffusion” as open-source.
  • [42] China Just Took AI Video Too Far — ByteDance Seedance 2.5 — “One laptop = one film” tagline, openly hyped/nationalistic framing of a Chinese video model.
  • [30] ShengShu Technology Unveils Vidu S1 — “real-time interactive generation,” styled like an anime key visual rather than a tech announcement.
  • [40] Microsoft Unveils VASA-1 — single photo + audio clip → live talking head, shown as an actual research figure grid of expressive faces.
  • [6] Google video-reskin demo (Lumiere-tagged) — the same source clip turned into Lego, origami, wood-block, and flower versions; the strongest “wow” visual in the whole set.
  • [12] New York's Bold Gambit: Inside the Legislative... — the only AI-regulation/policy angle pin among 50, paired with a human-journalism-vs-AI-media illustration.
  • [9] Adobe udvikler AI-model til opskalering af videoer — Danish-language pin on Adobe's blurry-footage-to-HD upscaling model, showing the topic reaching non-English audiences too.
  • [4] AI content and social media concerns — a robot phone-checking a “FAKE”-stamped cat photo/video, the clearest deepfake-skepticism image in the set.
Signals
  • The Pinterest set skews heavily toward listicle/affiliate marketing graphics (“Best N AI video tools”) rather than toward AI-generated artwork itself — most pins sell a blog post or YouTube video, not a finished piece of AI content.
  • Chinese video models receive glossier, more cinematic treatment (Seedance 2.5, Vidu S1) than flat Western tool-roundup infographics, suggesting that China's video-AI push is being picked up as a distinct hype narrative rather than as “which SaaS should I subscribe to?” content.
  • Deepfake/trust anxiety is a real but minor thread—FAKE stamps, “which is AI” quizzes, and voice-detector percentages are present but not dominant.
  • Absent: no open-source community showcases—no ComfyUI workflow screenshots, no Stable Diffusion/LoRA prompt-and-output galleries, and no GitHub screenshots. Aside from one mention of “Stable Video Diffusion” inside a closed-tool roundup infographic [26], none of the 50 pins center open-source models in the way they center closed commercial products such as Runway, Pika, Kling, Veo, Sora, and Grok.
  • Absent: no pricing/comparison spreadsheets and no protest/backlash imagery. Titles such as “Everyone's Mad At Anthropic Now” or “AI content and social media concerns” use generic reaction-face templates or stock photos rather than documentation of an actual controversy.
  • No engagement metrics, save counts, or timestamps are available in the collected data, unlike the Reddit/X stages, so recency and popularity cannot be verified from Pinterest alone.
Limits
  • Followed the playbook: images were pre-collected by the worker; this stage did not browse Pinterest directly, only read output/pinterest.pins.md and the image files.
  • All 50 pins came under a single unlabeled genre (g01-*); the table has no per-genre sections to compare against each other.
  • Opened and visually inspected 30 of the 50 images directly (indices 1–13, 15, 16, 18–21, 24, 26, 30, 31, 34, 39, 40, 42, 43, 46, 50); the remaining ~20 were assessed from title text only in the pins table, since the visual themes above were already saturated well before reaching that point.
  • Several pin titles do not match their thumbnail image — Pinterest frequently reuses generic “AI News” reaction-face templates or unrelated stock photos across different headlines (e.g., the “Anthropic leak” and “Grok video” pins both use generic templates unrelated to their claimed subject). Title-based claims for those pins could not be visually verified beyond the reused template.

Recommended actions

  • Fix the next X stage's logic so it searches directly for image/video generation AI keywords rather than regional trend terms.
  • Prepare an authenticated-session collection route for Bluesky because its official search API is blocked by a 403 response.
  • Search across other instances, including lemmy.ml and lemm.ee, to get closer to the 20-item analysis target on Lemmy.
  • Track actual migration destinations after the Sora API shutdown (2026/9/24) in subsequent Reddit and YouTube stages.
  • Explore a collection method for Pinterest that can obtain engagement indicators such as likes and saves.

Data quality notes

Of the 40 X posts collected, all were unrelated to the topic and only two were practically usable. Bluesky's official API was blocked by a 403 response, leaving only five verified items and no engagement metrics. Lemmy also fell short of the 20-item target with only 16. Reddit, YouTube, and Pinterest secured reasonable data volumes, but each retains a distinct gap: limited open-source information on Reddit, inability to retrieve live view counts and similar data on YouTube, and no engagement metrics on Pinterest.
