KEN’S CAT LOG

Daily Google Play Report 2026-10-17

Among apps that appeared in multiple countries on the same day, PLAYit-All in One Video Player ranks highest (HR #5, DE #43). However, today’s strongest trend is the sharp rise in AI photo/video generation apps and PDF tools across the US, UK, and Germany since the baseline date 30 days ago (2026-09-17).

New Entries

There were 12 apps that appeared in multiple countries on the same day. The highest-ranked were PLAYit-All in One Video Player (android-video-players/free, HR #5 and DE #43) and Yalla Shoot - Live Scores (android-sports/free, HR #19 and DE #45). Others include It's Pee Time Home Screen (tools, US #22 and GB #39), Astra AI: Study & Exam Prep (education, US #31 and GB #45), and Cartoon AI Photo Art Creator (photography, DE #30 and JP #45). Most of the 12 debuted at #31 or below, so they are still only early signals. On individual charts, BeSoccer #1, Football Live Score: Soccer #3, and Yacine TV #8 all entered HR's android-sports chart at once. On GB's paid watch-face charts, PER32 Ultra Hybrid Watch Face ranked #3 across three charts.

Sharp Monthly Rises (baseline date: 2026-09-17, 30 days ago)

The baseline date is the oldest collection date in the archive, so there is not yet a full month of data. Most of the biggest gains are in AI generation apps. AI Photo - AI Video Generator (GB photography #1, +42), Momo (US photography grossing #7, +37), Nexus - AI Video Generator (DE #6 +36, JP #14 +29), Framly (US #9 +33), and Hailuo AI (US #6 +32) all stand out. PDF apps are also strong: PDF Sprint (US tools #4, +33) and PDF File Plus (GB productivity #2, +32) rose sharply, while PDF Flow, absent on the baseline date, is #1 in DE tools.

Trends by Rank Tier

The top tier (ranks 1–10) was nearly unchanged: held 96%, new 1%, and |Δ| 0.4. The middle tier had held 93% and |Δ| 1.3. Turnover was concentrated in the lower tier (ranks 31–45), with held 84%, new 9%, and |Δ| 1.8. Because the developer field is empty, it is not possible to determine whether a small number of developers dominate the top ranks.

Trends by Country

HR had 152 new entries, more than double the 54–70 seen in other countries. Its top-10 held rate was also the lowest among the six countries, at 94%. The movement was concentrated in sports and social. In JP, disaster-preparedness apps rose together: NERV Disaster Prevention #3 (+20), Disaster Prevention Information #7 (+10), and the new entry Yurekuru Call (#26). WhatsApp, Spotify, Canva, Duolingo, ChatGPT, Google One, and Suno were among the apps in the top 10 across all six countries. Notably, Suno, an AI music-generation app, is in the top 10 in all six countries.

Trends by Category

The categories with the most new entries were android-video-players (45), android-sports (43), android-social (35), android-game (30), and android-tools (24). android-sports had the most turnover of any category, with a top-10 held rate of 86%. By contrast, android-communication was at 100%, while auto-and-vehicles, dating, events, and house-and-home were at 99%, showing almost no movement.

Key Findings

1. PLAYit-All in One Video Player entered HR #5 and DE #43 on the same day

Among the 12 apps that appeared in multiple countries on the same day, this was the only one to reach the top 10, at HR #5. android-video-players had 45 new entries today, the most of any category. This is an early sign that turnover is increasing in video player and editing apps.

Confidence: Medium

2. Most simultaneous multi-country entries are #31 or below, still an early signal

Multi-country entries were mainly lower-ranked, including It's Pee Time Home Screen (US #22 and GB #39), Astra AI (US #31 and GB #45), Cartoon AI Photo Art Creator (DE #30 and JP #45), and AI Photo Editor - Lumii (US #40 and DE #42). We need to track whether they remain tomorrow and beyond.

Confidence: Medium

3. AI photo and video generation apps have risen sharply in the US, UK, and Germany since the baseline date

AI Photo - AI Video Generator (GB #1, +42), Momo (US grossing #7, +37), Nexus (DE #6 +36, JP #14 +29), Framly (US #9 +33), Hailuo AI (US #6 +32), and Shots (HR grossing #8, +31) have all risen. Because Momo and Shots rose on grossing charts, their growth is translating into revenue as well as downloads.

Confidence: High

4. PDF tools are rising in both monthly and day-over-day comparisons

Monthly gains include PDF Sprint (US #4, +33) and PDF File Plus (GB #2, +32), while PDF Flow, absent on the baseline date, is #1 in DE tools. In the day-over-day comparison, PDF Reader (KR #17, +28), PDF Viewer (DE #24 and KR #16, both +17), and All Docs (US #20, +18) also rose.

Confidence: High

5. Turnover is concentrated in the lower ranks; the top 10 is nearly fixed

top had held 96%, new 1%, and |Δ| 0.4; mid had held 93%, new 1%, and |Δ| 1.3; bottom had held 84%, new 9%, and |Δ| 1.8. New apps are entering from ranks 31–45. Since the developer field is empty, we cannot assess whether particular developers dominate the top ranks.

Confidence: High

6. HR stands out with 152 new entries; sports and social shifted all at once

HR's 152 new entries greatly exceed DE 70, US 66, GB 60, KR 60, and JP 54. In sports, BeSoccer #1, Football Live Score: Soccer #3, Yacine TV #8, and LiveScore #9 all appeared at once. In social, Moj #7, ShareChat #8, and a “TikTok” app with the package name com.valourifyv12 at #11 entered. Many are apps aimed at India, so the chart composition may have changed or imitation apps may be involved; it is too early to call this a trend.

Confidence: Low

7. Disaster-preparedness and earthquake apps rose together in JP

NERV Disaster Prevention rose to #3 (+20), Disaster Prevention Information to #7 (+10), while Yurekuru Call (#26) and Strong Motion Monitor (#40) newly entered. All are android-weather apps. The data does not reveal the cause, but apps serving the same use case are moving at the same time.

Confidence: Medium

8. com.watchfacestudio apps dominate the top of GB's paid watch-face charts

PER23 Digital Watch Face was absent on the baseline date and is now #1 on three paid charts: android-wear, personalization, and watch-face. PER32 Ultra Hybrid Watch Face also newly entered at #3 on the same three charts. Note that the same apps are counted repeatedly across multiple categories.

Confidence: Medium

9. Top 10 in all six countries: ChatGPT, Suno, Duolingo, and others

ChatGPT is #1 in productivity/free in DE, GB, JP, and KR. It is also #1 in KR grossing and #2 in the other five countries. Suno, an AI music-generation app, is #1 in HR, #2 in DE, GB, and KR, #4 in the US, and #6 in JP—placing it in the top 10 in all six countries. Duolingo is #1 in five countries and #3 in HR.

Confidence: High

10. android-sports has the most turnover, while communication did not move at all

android-sports had 43 new entries and the lowest top-10 held rate of any category, at 86%. It was followed by weather (92%) and video-players, photography, and tools (93% each). Meanwhile, android-communication was at 100%, while auto-and-vehicles, dating, events, and house-and-home were at 99%, showing almost no movement.

Confidence: High

11. Seasonal movement: Aurora Watch (UK) and Halloween watch faces

Aurora Watch (UK) rose to #5 in GB weather (+37 rather than +42 versus the baseline date). In the US, Pumpkin Castle Watch Face rose to #31 (+11). Both are small signs of demand linked to the season.

Confidence: Low

Recommended Actions

  • Create comparison and recommendation content for AI photo and video generation apps (Nexus, Hailuo AI, Momo, and Framly) today. Target the US, GB, and DE, with Momo—also rising in grossing—at the center.
  • Write a comparison article on the sharp rise of PDF tools (PDF Sprint US #4, PDF File Plus GB #2, PDF Flow DE #1) to help readers choose the right app.
  • Feature Suno's top-10 presence in all six countries as data showing that AI music apps are becoming established.
  • Hold off on publishing about the simultaneous entries in HR sports and social (152 entries) until we confirm whether chart composition changed or imitation apps are mixed in.
  • Track the 12 simultaneous multi-country entries (especially PLAYit, Astra AI, and It's Pee Time) again tomorrow to see whether they retain their ranks.
  • Investigate what drove the simultaneous movement of JP disaster-preparedness apps (NERV, Disaster Prevention Information, Yurekuru Call), and consider a roundup of disaster-preparedness apps for Japan.
  • DE and HR TOP_GROSSING collection failures must be fixed before revenue-side analysis is possible. Ask the collection team to rerun the collection.

Data Quality Notes

The collection covered 394 charts, of which 27 could not be retrieved. A total of 367 charts and 13,444 rows were retrieved (excluding 236 charts that the source does not publish). Of the 367 charts, 335 could be compared with the prior run (2026-10-16); the remaining 32 charts' rows were counted as neither new entries nor changes. The share of comparable charts was particularly low in GB (52 of 63) and KR (51 of 60). Six recent runs completed only partially, with 33 retrieval failures. Most DE TOP_GROSSING charts, many HR TOP_GROSSING charts, and some grossing/paid charts in KR, US, GB, and JP are degraded. Grossing-based conclusions, especially for DE and HR, should therefore be treated with caution. The developer field is missing for 81,487 records in the archive, so it is not possible to assess whether developers dominate the top ranks. ratingCount is also missing for 81,487 records, and rating is missing for 1,770. The monthly baseline date, 2026-09-17, is the archive's oldest collection date (30 days ago), so there is not yet a full month of data.
