Image and Video Generation AI News — 2026-09-10

Alibaba's Wan 3.0 has shipped as a paid API with closed weights, while OpenAI will discontinue the Sora 2 API on September 24, reshaping video-generation AI under growing Chinese leadership as the boundary between open and closed models becomes increasingly blurred.

Image and Video Generation AI News — 2026-09-10

On the closed-source side, OpenAI has announced that it will shut down the Sora 2 API on September 24, 2026, while new-model announcements from Google's Nano Banana line (Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, positioned against ChatGPT Images 2.5), Meta's "Muse," and xAI's "Grok Imagine" continue to shift the competitive landscape. The biggest finding this time is that the open/closed boundary itself is becoming unstable: despite Alibaba's reputation as a standard-bearer for open weights through Wan 2.2 and Qwen-Image, it shipped its latest model, Wan 3.0, as a closed API without public weights. In video generation, Chinese models (ByteDance Seedance 2.0, Alibaba Wan, and MiniMax-H3) are gaining visibility both in comparison videos and the ComfyUI ecosystem, while concerns over authenticity detection and inadequate moderation of AI-generated content are rising across multiple platforms. We investigated six platforms—Reddit, X, YouTube, Bluesky, Lemmy, and Pinterest—and collected theme-related posts from every platform except X.

Across platforms

  • The open/closed boundary is becoming unstable: On YouTube, Alibaba's Wan 3.0 was criticized by name for shipping as a paid API without public weights despite its "open-source standard-bearer" image. On Lemmy, open-source discussion during the same period concentrated around the ComfyUI ecosystem for MiniMax-H3, while closed-source discussion skewed toward controversy and lawsuits (misuse of Nano Banana Earth AI and the Midjourney lawsuit). The divide between the two camps can no longer be explained simply as "companies versus individuals."
  • Google's "Nano Banana" family is at the center of discussion on several platforms: Explicit references appeared independently on Bluesky (dfl.bsky.social posting Nano Banana 2-generated landscape images daily), Lemmy (Nano Banana's Google Earth compositing feature was abused and withdrawn one day after launch), and YouTube (GPT Image 2 described as a "Nano Banana Pro Killer," and Midjourney V8 compared with Nano Banana 2).
  • Distrust of AI-generated content and demand for verification are spreading: Reddit features threads seeking specific visual clues for identifying AI content and strong backlash against methods that make LLM-driven drawing appear hand-made; Pinterest has verification-oriented infographics using "FAKE" stamps and "97% likely AI generated" badges; and Lemmy frequently uses the derogatory term "AI slop" and hosts visible anti-AI communities. These all express the same concern from different angles.
  • Chinese models are driving video generation: In YouTube comparison videos, ByteDance Seedance 2.0 repeatedly "destroys" Kling, Sora, and Veo. On Lemmy, more than ten ComfyUI node, LoRA, and VAE acceleration posts centered on Alibaba-related MiniMax-H3 appeared in the single week from 2026-09-02 to 09-08, highlighting Chinese momentum on both the closed and open sides.
  • Comparison and ranking formats have become native content formats across platforms: YouTube's "X vs. Nano Banana/Sora/Kling" shootout videos, Pinterest's infographics of the ten best free AI video-generation tools, and Reddit threads ranking uncensored image-generation tools all reflect the same practical question: "Which one should I use?"

Platform by platform

Reddit: We analyzed 12 worker-collected threads across 10 subreddits. Demand for image-generation tools marketed as uncensored and unrestricted (WildOwl, Mage.space, PixelForge) was discussed in contrast with tightening IP-character restrictions in Grok, ChatGPT, and Gemini. Meanwhile, a report that Meta was leaving AI-generated child-abuse videos up on its platform (772 points, r/TrueReddit) stood out as a moderation-failure concern, drawing an especially strong reaction with 1,024 comments. Multiple threads shared the view that video-generation length remains limited to roughly 5–15 seconds.

X: Of 40 collected posts from 37 accounts, only two meaningfully addressed the theme: a brief reaction from @DotCSV to an image-model update, and @QingQ77's introduction of an AI × 3D-generation repository. Because the search terms were generic Croatia-area trends for that day (Apple, $LAPTOP, Hunter Biden, and so on), rather than terms derived from image and video generation AI, this stage effectively failed to capture the subject.

YouTube: From 11 videos, we confirmed the major closed-source news of OpenAI ending the Sora API on September 24, 2026, developments around new models such as GPT Image 2 and Midjourney V8, and Alibaba Wan 3.0's shift from "open" to "closed." Tutorial videos for ComfyUI and local execution (DevsKingdom, GeekatPlay) were the primary form of open-source coverage. Because pages are JavaScript-rendered, view and subscriber counts could not be retrieved.

Bluesky: Because the full-text search API returned 403 for every query, we switched to indirect account-based research. News-aggregator bots such as testingcatalog.com and genainews.bsky.social reported announcements including OpenAI's "ChatGPT Images 2.5" and Meta's "Muse," while major open-source accounts—including Black Forest Labs, Stability AI, Midjourney's official account, and the Civitai notification bot—were largely inactive and did not function as primary sources.

Lemmy: Discussion was heavily concentrated in !«メールアドレス», whose content was primarily an automated feed of HuggingFace and GitHub updates. Over the most recent week, the ComfyUI ecosystem around MiniMax-H3 was the leading topic. On the closed-source side, searches for major service names including Sora, Kling, Runway, Ideogram, and Veo 3 produced no relevant posts; instead, only controversy and ethics topics such as Nano Banana misuse and the Midjourney lawsuit circulated.

Pinterest: We examined 23 of 50 pins. Most were secondary content reposting YouTube thumbnails or roundup-blog infographics, and engagement metrics such as likes and saves were unavailable. Announcement visuals from major companies, including Google's Veo 2 and Microsoft's VASA-1, stood out, while the open-source camp (Stable Diffusion, Flux, Qwen, Wan, and others) had extremely limited visibility—just one technical diagram and one item in a tool ranking.

What to watch

Recommendations

  • Track adoption trends for Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0, Seedance 2.0, and the Wan family as alternatives after the Sora API shutdown on 9/24.
  • Treat Wan 3.0's "open → closed" shift as precedent and continue monitoring the risk of strategy changes at other open-weight labs.
  • Monitor ComfyUI tools around MiniMax-H3 on Lemmy and HuggingFace to spot early signs of the next major open-source video model.
  • Reinvestigate X using image- and video-generation-specific terms (Stable Diffusion, Sora, Nano Banana, and so on) instead of regionally trending search terms.
  • Track moderation of harmful AI-generated content on platforms such as Meta as a leading indicator of regulatory and reputational risk.
  • Continue observing closed-source consumer-feature expansion in Nano Banana / Gemini Image as an indicator of competitors' responses.

Data quality

  • X: Although 40 posts were collected, only two (5%) were relevant to the theme. Since searches relied on regional daily trends (Apple, $LAPTOP, Hunter Biden, and others) and used no image- or video-generation-specific terms, this platform yielded virtually no usable findings.
  • Bluesky: The official full-text search API (app.bsky.feed.searchPosts) returned 403 for all queries and could not be used, so we switched to indirect account-search research. Directly relevant posts were limited to about ten, short of the target of 20.
  • Reddit: We analyzed 12 worker-collected threads from a single search query. This fell short of the approximate target of 20, and discussion specific to open-source models was especially sparse.
  • Lemmy: The volume of posts on this topic was itself small, with most scores in the single digits to tens. Searches for major closed-source services such as Sora, Kling, Runway, Ideogram, and Veo 3 found no relevant posts.
  • YouTube: Because pages are JavaScript-rendered, WebFetch could not retrieve the video grid, view counts, or comments; only video titles and channel names could be confirmed via oEmbed. View and subscriber counts are omitted as unavailable.
  • Pinterest: Pins did not include engagement metrics such as likes or saves, so quantitative comparison of performance was not possible. Most collected material was reposted YouTube thumbnails or blog articles, limiting its value as primary information.

What people say
  • Thread 1, "The best uncensored AI image generators in 2026" (r/AItips101, 110 points, 45 comments, 2026-09-07) https://www.reddit.com/r/AItips101/comments/1w9yftp/ — A ranking post about "uncensored" AI image-generation tools. WildOwl.ai ranked first, advertising access to more than 35 models including Qwen, Flux, Seedream, Wan, Kling, Seedance, Veo, and GPT Image, with no subscription requirement and non-expiring credits. In the comments, u/reliablemicrophone84 praised WildOwl for solving the "latest models or freedom" tradeoff, while u/Clear-Assistance449 recommended Mage.space because it allows unlimited generations within its subscription. The uncensored-image-tools space appears fragmented.

  • Thread 2, "Warning: There is a new form of ai generated image" (r/antiai, 7,130 points, 1,024 comments, 2026-09-05) https://www.reddit.com/r/antiai/comments/1w81kdd/ — A warning that an LLM (GPT-6), given mouse and keyboard control, can now directly "draw" on a digital canvas and even generate convincing real-looking timelapses, making it practically impossible to distinguish from genuine art production. With 1,024 comments, this was by far the most reactive thread among the 12 collected. The top comment by u/Nayutantantan (2,510 points) expressed intense disgust: "Even records are meaningless now—why go this far just to pretend to be a real artist?"

  • Thread 11, "Facebook Is Hosting Huge Numbers of Horrifying AI-Generated Videos of Violent Child Abuse..." (r/TrueReddit, 772 points, 40 comments, 2026-09-09) https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueReddit/comments/1wbnann/ — A shared report alleging that Meta/Facebook had left up large numbers of AI-generated child-abuse videos. Commenter u/mirh quoted Meta's response: "There are strict rules for content depicting physical harm, whether it is real footage or AI-generated," and said Meta stated that the videos had been removed; however, the comment argued that the platform had detection systems but was not using them. u/NinjaLion warned that Meta, X, and eventually Reddit were moving toward a model of selling swords but not armor—that is, abandoning moderation across platforms.

  • Thread 9, "Get Paid $30/Hour Reviewing AI-Generated Images" (r/RemoteWorkers, 175 points, 828 comments, 2026-09-04) https://www.reddit.com/r/RemoteWorkers/comments/1w7azwu/ — A remote-job post for verifying AI-generated captions at $30 per hour. Although it received 828 comments, most were repetitive "Images" comments seeking the application link, leaving virtually no substantive discussion. It is nonetheless an example of a newly emerging job category around AI verification and evaluation being actively recruited on Reddit.

  • Thread 4, "This Is a render made in Blender (not an AI generated video) by GPT 6 - Astra" (r/aiwars, 18 points, 14 comments, 2026-09-06) https://www.reddit.com/r/aiwars/comments/1w96yaf/ — A repost of an X video that drew attention after GPT-6 "Astra" operated Blender to create a render. u/not_food (6 points) said they could not wait for it to become locally runnable, because it could not be used professionally while the risk remained of being abandoned through pricing changes, policy changes, or server shutdowns. u/ComfortPhil (1 point) was confused by the category: "Made by GPT-6 but not AI-generated? I don't get it."

  • Thread 10, "Updated image generator. Trying to get back to "weird AI art"" (r/ChatGPT, 32 points, 26 comments, 2026-09-09) https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPT/comments/1wbdbdj/ — A post trying to recreate the strange quality of early Disco Diffusion/Stable Diffusion using current ChatGPT image generation. u/Cubic_Inequality504 (9 points) argued that the painterly, odd textures were still present and that version 2.5 looked exactly like Image 2. It reflects some users' dissatisfaction with progress toward more realistic and polished output.

  • Thread 5, "Even a lot of Pros here will admit that current AI models suck at generating appetizing images of food" (r/aiwars, 4 points, 177 comments, 2026-09-03) https://www.reddit.com/r/aiwars/comments/1w69cdj/ — Criticism that AI-generated images for food advertising do not look appetizing. u/LCI_Jake (14 points) harshly described them as looking deliberately grotesque, like insect nests. By contrast, u/Bassed_Hummble (5 points) argued that even free Krea 2 could produce quality output in 40 seconds with a competent prompt, so the problem was more about prompting and operations than the model. Opinions were divided.

  • Thread 6, "Non Restrictive AI Image Generator" (r/generativeAI, 2 points, 3 comments, 2026-09-08) https://www.reddit.com/r/generativeAI/comments/1waapc1/ — A user asks for a tool to make personal Disney-character fan art after Grok blocks the request. It is an example of IP-character restrictions becoming stricter among major closed-source providers such as Grok, ChatGPT, and Gemini. u/frighten (1 point) suggested PixelForge as a potentially unrestricted alternative.

  • Thread 7, "Free AI Image Generator" (r/freetoolsAI, 40 points, 51 comments, 2026-09-04) https://www.reddit.com/r/freetoolsAI/comments/1w6w0rj/ — A promotional post for aifreeforever.com, marketed as a free image generator with no signup, unlimited usage, and no watermarks. u/Puzzleheaded_Lab4757 (1 point) said the site had saved them hundreds of dollars and hours, while u/Relevant_Syllabub895 (2 points) complained that banning NSFW content was not worthwhile.

  • Thread 8, "Is This Video AI-Generated or Real? Looking for Opinions From People Who Can Spot AI" (r/isthisAI, 0 points, 31 comments, 2026-09-09) https://www.reddit.com/r/isthisAI/comments/1wbspxo/ — A request for help determining whether a video is real or AI-generated. u/BouncingSphinx (3 points) commented that the video was exactly 15 seconds long, which seemed like the current limit for AI video, serving as direct evidence of a technical duration cap. u/smalltiddygothb (16 points) and u/EmergencyWaffleBox (14 points) pointed to a necklace disappearing and reappearing as a specific artifact that helped identify AI generation.

  • Thread 3, "free video ai generator" (r/aivideomaking, 12 points, 29 comments, 2026-09-07) https://www.reddit.com/r/aivideomaking/comments/1w9h5a9/ — A request for a free way to make a 45-second video using only a phone or iPad. u/NewLifeWares (2 points) explained the practical constraints: 45 seconds requires data-center-class hardware, and free tiers can generally manage only watermarked five-second clips. The short duration of free video AI remains its largest bottleneck.

Signals
  • Demand is rising for "uncensored/unrestricted" tools on the closed-source side (WildOwl, Mage.space, PixelForge, and others), in contrast with IP-character restrictions at major providers such as Grok, ChatGPT, and Gemini. As restrictions tighten, demand for threads introducing alternatives appears to grow.
  • There is rapidly increasing backlash against technology that conceals or disguises AI generation. Thread 2's technique of letting an LLM control a mouse to make timelapses look "real" drew an overwhelming 1,024 comments, the largest response in this collection. Though it originated in r/antiai, the issue of faking authenticity resonates with Thread 8 in r/isthisAI, which seeks concrete visual clues for telling whether something is AI-generated.
  • The perceived duration limit for video generation—roughly 5–15 seconds—remains a recognized barrier, as Threads 3 and 8 agree. Replies to the request for a free 45-second video largely converged on "impossible," sometimes mockingly; this was less a disagreement than common understanding.
  • Quality evaluations are divided: Thread 10 complains that strange textures remain despite model advances, while Thread 5 argues that the issue is prompting rather than model limits. People disagree about who bears responsibility for AI image quality.
  • AI-related human work—caption verification at $30/hour—is starting to stand out in Reddit job boards, signaling that surrounding work involving verification and oversight is increasing alongside AI image and video generation.
  • Concern about inadequate moderation has emerged as a cross-platform issue (Thread 11). While discussed as a Meta-specific problem, commenters predict that X and Reddit will follow the same path, making the gap between generative AI expansion and platform moderation systems a likely future flashpoint.
Limits
  • The completion criterion calls for analysis of roughly 20 threads per platform, but the worker-collected material here contains only 12 threads across 10 subreddits. There was only one search term, "Image and Video Generation AI News," and no additional searches in Japanese or with other English queries such as "Stable Diffusion," "Midjourney," "Sora," or "open source diffusion model." The 12 threads alone may provide an insufficient base for brief.md's requirement of at least ten insights each for closed-source and open-source topics.
  • The collection contains almost no threads focused on named open-source models—such as Stable Diffusion variants, ComfyUI, Civitai, or other specific new model names—making open-source discussion thinner than mentions of closed-source offerings such as WildOwl, ChatGPT, Grok, and GPT-6.
  • In r/RemoteWorkers Thread 9, most of the 828 comments are repetitive "Images" comments, leaving almost no usable material for substantive discussion.
  • This file was created solely from the worker-collected output/reddit.threads.md / .json; no additional Reddit access through WebFetch or search was performed, as directed by the playbook.

X — Image and Video Generation AI News Trends

Accounts

Of the 40 collected posts from 37 accounts, only two accounts substantively touched on the research topic of image and video generation AI.

  • @DotCSV (Carlos Santana) — A well-known Spanish-language AI YouTuber/commentator. One post with 890 likes, an average-sized response within the collection. It appeared in a search for "AI OS," but the content was only a brief reaction to an image-model update.
  • @QingQ77 (Geek Lite) — A small account with one post and 24 likes. It introduced a GitHub repository for AI agents to create 3D-printable parts in Blender (jangtrinh/design-os-3d-blender). This is adjacent to, rather than directly about, image or video generation: AI × 3D/CAD generation.

The remaining 35 accounts each yielded one to three posts about unrelated topics—Apple product announcements, the $LAPTOP meme coin, Real Madrid/football, Hunter Biden, Catholic controversies, Love Island USA, anime live commentary (ABEMA "CHANCE & CHANGE"), and more—and cannot be counted as sources discussing the theme.

Posts
  • #19 @DotCSV — 890 likes · 46 reposts · 15 replies · about 63,000 views · 2026-09-08
https://x.com/DotCSV/status/2097406200006537543 (found through a search for "AI OS")

"Fuck, and on top of that, they roll out an update to the image model... just in case the math milestone wasn't enough for you."
The only post to mention an image-model update. However, the text does not identify the model or company, and it is only a one-off reaction.

  • #17 @QingQ77 — 24 likes · 2 reposts · 15 replies · about 2,300 views · 2026-09-08
https://x.com/QingQ77/status/2097258894280347971 (found through a search for "AI OS")

"Let AI agents build real parts with correct dimensions and 3D printability according to specifications in Blender 5.2, directly connecting to the printing production stage." (with a link to GitHub: jangtrinh/design-os-3d-blender)
It is not image or video generation itself, but is worth noting as an example of the same trend reaching the adjacent 3D/CAD domain: AI-generated outputs connecting directly to production workflows. Still, the response was small and remained niche.

The other 38 posts—found via searches for "Apple," "$LAPTOP," "Hunter Biden," "iPhone," "Real Madrid," "Harvey," "Germans," "#chance," "Catholic," and the remaining two results for "AI OS"—are unrelated to image and video generation AI and were excluded from the findings.

Signals
  • The clearest signal from this stage is that the collected posts were almost entirely unrelated to the theme. Only two of 40 posts contained substantive image/video-generation AI news or discussion, and neither was strong as a primary source: one was a standalone impression and the other a repository share.
  • The sole relevant @DotCSV post shows that an AI influencer's reaction to an image-model update can receive meaningful circulation (equivalent to about 63,000 views), but it lacks specific model names or feature details and cannot support follow-up verification.
  • None of the names that should be directly relevant—Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, Flux, Sora, Veo, Runway, Kling, Seedance, ComfyUI, Civitai, or Nano Banana—were included in the search terms. The collection therefore tells us nothing about actual X discussion volume or enthusiasm for those subjects.
Limits
  • The search terms did not match the theme. Following the playbook, the worker used trends shown on X's Explore page, which displayed "Trending in Croatia" based on the connected server's location: Apple / $LAPTOP / Hunter Biden / iPhone / AI OS / Real Madrid / Harvey / Germans / #chance / Catholic. These were general regional trends, not queries derived from the image- and video-generation AI research topic. As a result, nine of the ten terms—about 30 posts—were unrelated.
  • Even within the "AI OS" search, two of four posts were irrelevant (#18 concerned regional polling bias, and #20 was an unrelated "ai os cat beanie" post).
  • The completion criterion calls for analyzing roughly 20 posts per social network, but only two relevant posts existed in this collection. Rather than force unrelated posts into the analysis to fill the count, findings were limited to the two posts that actually addressed the theme.
  • This file was created only by reading already collected data in output/x.posts.md / .posts.json; in accordance with the playbook, no additional X searches or browsing were performed. A new search for terms directly related to the theme—Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, Sora, Veo, or open-source video models—would likely have produced different results, but that was outside this run's scope.

  11. FREE Wan 3.0: what actually shipped (there are no weights) and How to use it for FREE — Prompt Engineer — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbI8XV4Szrk — late Aug 2026 — Fact-check video pointing out that despite Wan's open-source reputation, Alibaba's public weight releases stop at Wan 2.2 — Wan 3.0 itself shipped only as a metered, closed paid API, not open weights. (Notable open→closed shift.)

Signals
  • Sora's exit is the biggest closed-source story on the platform right now: multiple videos treat the September 24, 2026 API shutdown as a referendum on video-gen unit economics, not a capability failure — and openly note OpenAI has no successor model, pointing viewers to Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0, Seedance 2.0, and Wan 2.7 instead.
  • "X vs. Nano Banana / vs. Sora / vs. Kling" comparison videos are a dominant, near-templated format on this topic — the same handful of channels (Youri van Hofwegen, Creative AI Show) publish near-identical shootout videos every time a new closed model drops, suggesting high viewer demand for "which one do I pay for" content.
  • Open-source coverage skews toward ComfyUI/local-install tutorials (DevsKingdom, GeekatPlay) rather than news reaction — the audience for FLUX.2, Qwen-Image, and Z-Image content is builders/hobbyists running models locally, not general audiences.
  • The open-source vs. closed-source line is blurring and reversing: Alibaba, previously the poster child for open-weight releases (Wan 2.2, Qwen-Image, Z-Image), shipped its newest flagship Wan 3.0 as a closed, metered API with no weights — a trend a dedicated video (#11) calls out directly.
  • Chinese labs (Alibaba/Tongyi, ByteDance's Seedance) dominate the video-generation conversation in mid-to-late 2026, repeatedly cited as beating or replacing US closed models (Sora, Veo) in comparison videos.
  • Official model-owner channels (e.g., "Qwen") are themselves a first-party news source on YouTube, publishing announcement videos same-day as model drops — worth treating as primary sources alongside independent reviewers.

  • YouTube's search-results and watch pages are JavaScript-rendered; direct WebFetch of youtube.com/results?... and youtube.com/watch?v=... returned only static footer/legal boilerplate, not the video grid, titles, view counts, or comments. I could not read on-page comments at all.
  • To compensate, I used web search (site:youtube.com queries, which frequently fell back to non-YouTube results) plus YouTube's public oEmbed endpoint (youtube.com/oembed) to confirm exact video titles and channel names for the videos listed above. oEmbed does not expose view counts or subscriber counts, so none are reported here — all "views" and "subscribers" figures in this file are honestly omitted rather than guessed.
  • Upload dates are approximate where oEmbed didn't provide one; I used dates surfaced by web-search snippets, which are usually accurate to the day but occasionally only to the month.
  • Coverage this run leans on video/comparison content because that dominates search-engine-indexed YouTube results for this theme; there may be additional smaller-channel or non-English content not surfaced by these queries.

Note on the research method

public.api.bsky.app's app.bsky.feed.searchPosts (full-text search API) returned HTTP 403 for every tested query, including q=image generation AI, q=Stable Diffusion, and q=cats, and could not be used (see Limits for details). Instead, we discovered theme-related accounts through app.bsky.actor.searchActors (account search, functioning normally) and directly retrieved each account through app.bsky.feed.getAuthorFeed.

  6. "Tencent released open-source Hy4 preview model" — testingcatalog.com, 2026-08-29 https://bsky.app/profile/testingcatalog.com/post/3mu7v3bdkwo2h — The linked article describes a 77-billion-parameter, one-million-token-context model released as open source for software, office, game, and research use. It claims to outperform GLM 5.3 and Kimi K3 in internal tests. This is a text-focused LLM rather than an image/video generation model, but is an example of Bluesky AI-news accounts covering Tencent's move to open-source a major model.

  7. Repeated "AI image generation / #Nano Banana 2" posts — dfl.bsky.social, 2026-09-09, 21 likes / 1 repost (similar posts appear nearly daily, generally receiving 30–90 likes) https://bsky.app/profile/dfl.bsky.social/post/3mv4cwoxxks22 — An account that continues posting Japanese-style and natural landscape images generated with Google's "Nano Banana 2," accompanied by detailed prompt tags. This is an example of a closed-source model becoming embedded in the daily workflow of individual creators.

Signals
  • Bluesky's AI image/video generation news space is dominated by news-aggregator bots rather than individual discussion. Breaking-news bots such as testingcatalog.com and genainews.bsky.social repost articles several times daily, while there is little of the threaded pro/con discussion seen on Reddit.
  • Official model-developer accounts are nearly silent on Bluesky. Black Forest Labs has zero posts; Stability AI's latest post is from 2025-11-19 and centers on audio generation; Midjourney's official account stopped updating in 2025-10; and Civitai's checkpoint-notification bot stopped in 2024-05. Bluesky is therefore barely functioning as a venue for first-party news from open-source image/video model makers.
  • Open-source topics are carried by individual workflow and promotional accounts rather than model developers. Posters such as generate-cmyxt.bsky.social repeatedly introduce Flux, Wan, LTX, Qwen Image Edit, Ideogram 4, DreamOmni2, and others as ComfyUI workflows. The content circulates more as practical tips and promotion than as technology news.
  • Closed-source discussion centers on announcements from major and emerging players—OpenAI (ChatGPT Images 2.5), Google (Nano Banana 2), Meta (Muse Video), and newcomer Visko (Orbis)—and the aggregator coverage is visibly concentrated around them.
  • The individual-creator layer—dozens of accounts found in account search—primarily posts AI art and NSFW work using Stable Diffusion, Qwen-Image, Ideogram 4, Krea 2, and similar tools. It is more a production community than a news environment. Anti-AI accounts such as artistsagainstai.bsky.social exist, but no recently active posts were confirmed.
Limits
  • Bluesky's official full-text search API, app.bsky.feed.searchPosts, returned HTTP 403 Forbidden for all tested queries, including image generation AI, video generation AI, Stable Diffusion, and unrelated test terms such as cats, and was never usable. By contrast, app.bsky.actor.searchActors (account search), app.bsky.feed.getAuthorFeed (individual-account feeds), and app.bsky.feed.getPostThread (post details) worked normally. Because the playbook-recommended full-text post search was unavailable, this investigation remained indirect and account-based.
  • The search-results page at https://bsky.app/search?q=... is a JavaScript-rendered SPA, so the fetch tool could not retrieve its text.
  • The completion criterion calls for analysis of about 20 posts. Because the search API was unavailable, the content we could directly examine was limited to the ten posts above and related posts in the listed accounts' feeds. Although dozens of general posts were viewed, only about ten directly related posts could be presented, falling somewhat short of the target.
  • Many major accounts on the open-source/tool side—Black Forest Labs, Stability AI, official Midjourney, and the Civitai notification bot—had stopped posting or become low-frequency, leaving almost no first-party information on Bluesky as of September 2026. This reflects low activity on the platform itself, not an intentional research omission.
  • No Reddit/X-style threads explicitly debating "closed source vs. open source" were found on Bluesky.

Lemmy — Image and Video Generation AI Trends (Closed/Open Source)

Communities
  • !«メールアドレス» (5,708 subscribers, created 2023-06-09) — The central community for open-source image/video-generation tools. In practice it is largely a bot-like feed automatically posting new HuggingFace/GitHub releases; more than ten new models and ComfyUI extensions appeared from 2026-09-02 to 09-08 alone.
  • !«メールアドレス» (8,532 subscribers) — A venue for sharing AI-generated images regardless of model. Includes posts using Nano Banana (Gemini 2.5 Flash Image).
  • !«メールアドレス» (50 subscribers) — A small community specializing in abstract Stable Diffusion-style images.
  • !«メールアドレス» (8,176 subscribers) — "A place for people who hate AI." Focuses on pushback and criticism of generative AI generally, with image/video generation often targeted.
  • !«メールアドレス» — A DC movie-related community. One post concerning AI use circulated in this run.
  • !«メールアドレス» — A mirror community automatically reposting Reddit's /r/ArtificialInteligence and similar sources. Note that it is not original Lemmy discussion.
  • !«メールアドレス» — Focused on local LLMs. Recent posts were almost entirely about language models (Qwen3.8, GLM-5.3, and others), with almost no image/video-generation discussion.
Posts
  1. The ComfyUI ecosystem around MiniMax-H3 is rapidly growing (open-source) — !«メールアドレス», concentrated posts from 2026-09-02 to 09-06.

    • OpenVDN/vdn-minimax-h3 (score 3, 2026-09-05) — Accelerates MiniMax-H3 through hybrid attention.
    • Saganaki22/ComfyUI-VDN-H3 (score 4, 2026-09-05)
    • DANNY621/H3-World (score 3, 2026-09-02) — Introduced as the first interactive world model based on MiniMax-H3.
    • During the same period, more than six posts in succession covered VAE-acceleration and LoRA-related projects such as "motion_enhancer," "MotionCache-FastVAE," and "H3VAE_TRT," suggesting that the surrounding tool ecosystem for the MiniMax-H3 video model is developing all at once.
  2. Viggle/Viggle-Animate (open-source) — !«メールアドレス», score 10, 2026-09-05. https://huggingface.co/Viggle/Viggle-Animate — A method for replacing a character in a video from a single redrawn frame. The highest-scoring post in this collection.

  3. Krea2-Turbo-Distill-4step-LoRA (open-source) — !«メールアドレス», score 2, 2026-09-08. https://huggingface.co/lvladikov/Krea2-Turbo-Distill-4step-LoRA — A distilled LoRA claiming to halve the number of steps and provide about 1.6× faster generation.

  4. LLaDA-Image: Building Strong Image Generators (open-source/paper) — !«メールアドレス», score 3, 2026-09-04. https://arxiv.org/abs/2609.03796 — A unified image-generation framework using a 6-billion-parameter Diffusion Transformer.

  5. Google withdraws Nano Banana's Earth AI feature one day after release (closed-source) — !«メールアドレス» (Reddit repost), score 1, 2026-08-07. https://lemmy.durstig.online/post/52162 — After Google added a capability to overlay composite images on Google Earth using Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (Nano Banana), it was abused to create fake images of nuclear plants and military facilities. Google stopped the feature the next day. A Google spokesperson said, "People place a high value on the reliability of Google Earth."

  6. Midjourney demands that Hollywood studios disclose their use of generative AI (closed-source) — !«メールアドレス», score 76(↑)/2(↓), 2026-07-05. https://lemmy.today/post/56011946 (original article: TechCrunch) — In a copyright lawsuit, Midjourney is seeking disclosure of its opposing studios' own AI use. Comments argue that training data should also be disclosed and that Disney's copyright stance is a double standard.

  7. DC Studios was found to have used AI-generated concept art in producing 'Supergirl' (leaning closed-source) — !«メールアドレス», score 33(↑)/1(↓), 2026-08-13 (27 days after the original post). https://lemmy.today/post/58316222 — An accidentally published making-of video showed an AI-image workflow, and DC removed the video. Comments noted that the interface resembled Midjourney's generation screen.

  8. Anime-style generation using Qwen Image VAE (open-source) — !«メールアドレス», 2026-09-09. https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/75237492 — Created with the BASBetterAnimeStyleAnimaBase model + character LoRA + qwen_image_vae, at 35 steps, CFG 7, Euler a. It received no comments, but is an example of Qwen image-generation components being used in individual creative work.

  9. "Why is dbzer0 full of AI slop and AI apologists?" (anti-AI perspective, contextual information) — !«メールアドレス», 2026-09-02. https://futurology.today/post/11938893 — Backlash against dbzer0-related communities with many open-source image-generation posts. An example showing that hostility toward AI-generated content remains strong across Lemmy.

  10. Regular release posts from the SDNext / stable_diffusion community (open-source, reference) — !«メールアドレス» has continued posting SDNext release notes regularly from late 2025 through 2026 (for example, score 7, 2025-10-31, https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/56684869). No corresponding post was found in the immediate target period, but this is included as background on the community's ongoing nature.

Signals
  • Discussion of this topic on Lemmy is effectively concentrated in !«メールアドレス». However, most of its content is an automated feed of new HuggingFace/GitHub releases rather than human conversation, and posts receive few comments, usually zero to a handful.
  • The largest recent open-source topic, during the week from 2026-09-02 to 09-09, is the video-generation model MiniMax-H3, surrounded by daily posts about ComfyUI nodes, LoRAs, and VAE-acceleration tools. Rather than a standalone new-model announcement, the rapid expansion of an ecosystem around an existing model stands out.
  • Closed-source topics that appear on Lemmy are skewed toward controversy, litigation, and ethical issues, rather than impressive new features: misuse of Nano Banana Earth AI, the Midjourney lawsuit, and concealed AI use at DC Studios. Searches found no standalone news about major closed-source image/video services such as Sora, Kling AI, Runway Gen, Ideogram, or Veo 3.
  • Lemmy overall has a strongly hostile atmosphere toward AI-generated content, including in communities such as !fuck_ai, and the slur "AI slop" appears frequently regardless of whether a model is open or closed.
Limits
  • Lemmy's search API (/api/v3/search) has low relevance. Generic keywords such as "image generation AI" returned unrelated political and technology news, requiring noise filtering to isolate relevant posts.
  • Searches for major closed-source video/image services—including Sora, Kling AI, Runway Gen, Ideogram, Veo 3, and Grok Imagine—found no relevant posts. These subjects appear to receive very little circulation on Lemmy.
  • !«メールアドレス» is an automatic Reddit repost feed rather than original Lemmy community discussion, so it is treated as reference information and generally excluded from the main findings.
  • The overall post volume for this topic on Lemmy is small, with most scores in the single digits to tens. Of the brief's target of about 20 analyzed posts, roughly ten directly relevant posts listed here appear to be the practical upper limit; beyond that, results become unrelated noise such as political news or generic AI arguments. Lemmy should be understood as a platform with a small underlying sample for this topic.

Pinterest

Pinterest — Image and Video Generation AI News

Visual themes
  • The "surprised YouTuber + logo board" template: Against a dark background with neon blue/purple, logos for OpenAI (swirl), Google (G), Microsoft (four squares), Meta (∞), DeepSeek (whale), Nvidia, Notion, Grok (X), and others are arranged in a circle, with the face of a surprised bearded man pasted on the right. This composition is repeatedly used in "AI NEWS" thumbnails and appears to be YouTube thumbnails reposted directly to Pinterest. [4, 19, 29, 44]
  • Humanoid/robot faces personifying AI: Smooth white android faces, suited "robot news anchors," brains with visible circuitry, and human faces made of Matrix-like green code are commonly used in industry-news visuals. [2, 23, 27, 34, 40, 46, 50]
  • Before/after and transformation demos: Parallel grids converting a real image into wooden-block, origami-art, Lego-block, or flower-based forms (including a car transformation example); VASA-1 grids generating expressive video from audio plus a single face photo; "AI Baby" composites transforming woman → child → man; and a split image of an old black-and-white crowd and digital imagery pouring from a lens in "history generative AI." These "real footage → AI generated" before/after compositions stand out. [6, 13, 18, 47]
  • Vertical ranking infographics: Tall comparison charts containing tool logos, checklists, and "free" badges. Names include Runway, Pika, Kling AI, Luma AI (Dream Machine), Canva AI, Hailuo AI, Synthesia, D-ID, Veed.io, Pictory, InVideo, Lumen5, and Hyperwrite, mixing closed and open tools. [10, 26]
  • Deepfake-anxiety and verification graphics: Red "FAKE" stamps, "AI VOICE DETECTORS" with "97% likely AI generated" badges, magnifying glasses and question marks, and silhouettes of suspicious hooded figures form a distinct visual theme intended to evoke distrust of and verification needs for AI-generated content. [2, 39]
  • Corporate launch events and product teasers: Google Veo 2 teasers (a swimming dog, flamingos, an anime-style girl), a speaker presenting in front of a Google Lumiere Android-like bust, a poster explaining Gemini API inputs and outputs in a funnel diagram, and stage photos of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. [3, 9, 16, 44, 50]
  • Very few technical diagrams: Of 50 items, only one shows the internal structure of a diffusion model—Frozen T5 XXL, IF-I-M 400M, Stable Diffusion 4x Upscale, and so on—and even that has a hype-oriented title rather than a technical explanation: "OpenAI's secret image-generation tool is coming soon." [37]
Notable pins
  • #9 "Google Unveils Veo 2..." — Google's official Veo 2 teaser imagery itself (a swimming dog, flamingos, and an anime-style girl). #3 (untitled) uses the same image, suggesting content reuse and the existence of mass-posting accounts.
  • #47 "Microsoft Unveils VASA-1..." — A demo grid showing expressive talking-video generation using only a single still image, an audio clip, and optional control signals. One of the clearest visual examples of talking-head generation technology.
  • #13 (untitled) — A 3×3 grid transforming real video into "wooden blocks," "origami," "Lego," and "flowers," with a Lumen-like watermark. A typical viral presentation of video style transfer.
  • #32 "Breaking News Latest AI Developments..." — An infographic dated August 12, 2026. It covers three items: Grok 4.6 (working autonomously for dozens of steps and returning with finished output), Gemini surpassing one billion users at the fastest pace ever (generating 150 million images per day), and Honor's robotic phone with a built-in camera gimbal.
  • #22 (untitled, effectively "Today's AI News") — Dated May 20, 2026. An infographic summarizing the Google I/O 2026 search overhaul (Gemini 3.5 Flash / Gemini Omni / Gemini Spark), Apple's AI accessibility improvements, and intensifying competition in AI smart glasses.
  • #26 "5+ Best AI Video Generation Websites" — Compares Runway, Pika, Kling AI, Luma AI, Canva AI, and Hailuo AI, ending with the explicit note that they are ideal for Pinterest video pins, YouTube Shorts, and TikTok. A self-referential tool guide that treats Pinterest itself as a publishing destination.
  • #10 "Best 10 AI FREE Video Generation Tools 2026" — A top-ten list of Pictory, RunwayML, Veed.io, Synthesia, InVideo, Kling AI, D-ID, Lumen5, Canva AI, and Hyperwrite AI, with a typical affiliate prompt: "Follow & like for more information."
  • #2 (untitled, "AI content and social media concerns") — Combines a viral cat photograph stamped in red with "FAKE," 1.2K likes / 7.4K views, a suspicious hooded figure, and a question mark, centering distrust in AI-generated content.
  • #39 "AI is Changing Everything!" — An educational infographic organized around AI video generation, AI voice detection (with a 97% probability badge), and AI ethics and prompt engineering, warning that seeing is no longer believing.
  • #6 "7 Best AI Baby Generators..." — A consumer-entertainment guide to tools that predict a child's face from a woman's and a man's faces. It represents viral personal-use rather than industry news.
Signals
  • Pinterest's visible "AI news" is almost entirely secondary content reposting YouTube thumbnails or roundup-blog infographics, rather than primary information. Reused images (such as #3 and #9) and affiliate prompts such as "LIKE & FOLLOW" are prominent, making it fundamentally different from direct conversation on Reddit or X.
  • On the closed-source side, visual coverage is dominated by launches from Google (Veo 2, Lumiere, Gemini 3.5/Omni/Spark, Gemini surpassing one billion users) and Microsoft (VASA-1). OpenAI and Anthropic names appear frequently, mostly as logos in logo boards, but Pinterest has far fewer standalone product teaser images for them than for Google.
  • Tool-comparison and ranking list posts (#10, #26, and others) are Pinterest's most typical native format, indicating practical interest in affordable or free closed-source tools such as Runway, Pika, Kling AI, Luma, Canva, Synthesia, D-ID, Veed.io, and Hailuo.
  • Deepfake distrust and detection (#2, #39) are present in meaningful numbers as their own theme. Anxiety about content being indistinguishable from reality coexists at roughly the same scale as creator-tool guides.
  • Consumer-entertainment use cases—"AI Baby" face prediction and style-transfer filters turning real footage into wooden blocks, flowers, or Lego—mix with industry product announcements in the same results, blurring the boundary between newsworthy content and entertainment posts.
  • The open-source camp has very little visibility: Stable Diffusion, Flux, Qwen, Wan, Kling (Chinese/open systems), and DeepSeek appear only in one technical diffusion-model diagram (#37, with a hype title) and as one item in a tool ranking. No pins conveying community discussion or concrete model advances were found.
  • The presence of date-specific infographics—such as #32 from August 12, 2026 and #22 from May 20, 2026—shows that the collected image set itself includes recent content.
Limits
  • As instructed in platforms/pinterest.md, Pinterest itself was not browsed. The analysis used only the worker-collected output/pinterest.pins.md (50 items) and images/pinterest/manifest.json.
  • Of the 50 pins, 23 were actually opened and inspected: #1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 10, 13, 16, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 29, 32, 34, 37, 39, 40, 44, 46, 47, 50—enough to meet brief.md's approximate target of 20. The remaining roughly 27 were checked by title only.
  • Six had no original title and appeared as "(untitled)," so their content had to be inferred visually (#3, #11, #14, #15, #22, #31); of these, only #3 and #22 were image-inspected, while #11, #14, #15, and #31 were not.
  • Pinterest pins did not include engagement indicators such as likes, saves, or comments, so it was not possible to quantitatively compare which posts were performing well as on Reddit or X.
  • Nearly all text inside the images was English; no Japanese or other-language pins were found among the 50 items.

Recommended actions

Data quality notes

X yielded virtually no useful data because only 2 of 40 collected posts were related to the theme and searches depended on regional trends. Bluesky and Reddit also fell short of the approximate 20-post completion target because of official search API failures and single-query constraints. YouTube and Pinterest could not provide engagement metrics such as views and likes because of their page structures.
