Image and Video Generation AI News — 2026-09-26

As OpenAI fully shut down the Sora/Videos API on September 24, 2026, Alibaba’s open-weight models Wan 3.0 and Qwen-Image 2.1 rapidly spread across the ecosystem—signaling simultaneous consolidation among closed platforms and momentum for open models.

Image and Video Generation AI News — 2026-09-26

What an absolutely wild week 😤🔥 The biggest news was OpenAI seriously shutting down Sora. Both the app and Videos API were fully discontinued on September 24, 2026, with no successor announced—pretty decisive, for better or worse. Meanwhile, the open-source camp is rapidly reshaping the scene with Alibaba’s Wan 3.0 and Qwen-Image 2.1. While closed providers are retreating through price cuts and shutdowns, open models are charging ahead 📈 Overall, it felt like a week of “closed platforms facing elimination and consolidation, while open platforms unleash a release blitz.”

Across platforms

  • Qwen-Image 2.1 (Alibaba, open) is appearing simultaneously across several platforms: Reddit (recommended in r/StableDiffusion as a go-to image-editing model), Bluesky (a concrete benchmark score of 60.2 for its 7B-parameter model, plus a ComfyUI port immediately after release), and Lemmy (the dbzer0 community reporting the same official ComfyUI support). Three platforms tracked the same development at almost the same time (September 22–25), making it clear that this is genuinely the hottest open model right now 🔥
  • MiniMax H3 is the de facto open-video standard: Reddit (consensus in r/StableDiffusion that “for video, use MiniMax H3”), Lemmy (a burst of over five ComfyUI tools and prompt builders in one week), and Bluesky (individual creators experimenting through ComfyUI) all point in the same direction. You can watch the change of leadership in open video generation happen in real time 👀
  • Krea 2 has taken the crown from Z-Image Turbo: Reddit features many comments saying “Z-Image Turbo is already outdated,” while Lemmy saw two posts about a Krea2 acceleration LoRA. The turnover rate for open image models is seriously fast ⚡
  • The full Sora shutdown was surprisingly only a Bluesky topic: Reddit, X, YouTube, Lemmy, and Pinterest either largely ignored this major news or came close to doing so. Lemmy, for example, only had a repost of the old March announcement and zero posts about the actual September 24 shutdown. It is a high-impact story corroborated on only one platform, so treat it carefully ⚠️
  • The same DeepSeek × Huawei Ascend infrastructure story appeared from two angles: Reddit framed it as “DeepSeek ordered 160,000 Ascend 960DT units because it lacks compute,” while Bluesky showed SDXL/FLUX LoRAs being mass-produced on Huawei Ascend via Modelers.cn—though quality varies widely. These are two views of the same tectonic shift, with both closed and open Chinese AI trying to ride Ascend chips 💡
  • Pushback against using AI output as if it were real is taking concrete form across platforms: Reddit covered AI manipulation exposed in a microscopy competition, misleading AI real-estate photos, and a CEO being fired over AI images. Pinterest featured an “AI GENERATED” badge on an AI-made NBC News-style anchor video and questions around the line between real and fake. Lemmy’s general communities voiced skepticism over AI dependence and data-center power use. These are no longer abstract debates—specific harms and public blowups are accumulating 😬

Platform by platform

Reddit — Analyzed 12 threads across 9 subreddits. Specialist communities such as r/StableDiffusion rapidly standardized around Krea 2, Qwen-Image 2.1, MiniMax H3, and SenseNova-U1.5, while general communities stood out for stories where backlash against AI-generated output escalated into tangible harms such as firings and reporting campaigns. However, collection used only one search term and fell short of the 20-post completion target, stopping at 12.

X — The session location was fixed to Croatia, making Explore trends almost entirely unrelated to the topic: 8 out of 10 terms were misses. Only 7–8 relevant posts were ultimately collected, below the completion threshold. What was found was interesting, though: creators repeatedly reported “multi-tool pipeline” video production combining Claude Opus 5.5 with GPT Images, Grok, and Gemini TTS, as well as “video-production agent” workflows in which Claude Code autonomously gathers assets, edits footage, and selects music. There were zero open-source mentions.

YouTube — Multi-model head-to-head comparisons—such as Sora 2 vs Veo 3.1 and Seedance 2.5 vs Kling 3.0 vs MiniMax H3 vs Google Omni—are the dominant closed-model format. On the open side, LTX-2.5, Lightricks’ 22B-parameter open-weight video-and-audio model, had ComfyUI validation videos within a week of its announcement. Several channels also covered Z-Image Turbo as a free alternative to Nano Banana Pro. View counts and subscriber counts could not be collected because of JavaScript rendering.

Bluesky — The most productive platform in this run, with more than 200 posts analyzed across 12 queries. Closed-side highlights included Sora’s full shutdown, including its failed $1 billion Disney partnership, Google Veo’s 4× price cut, and leaked traces of Nano Banana 2.5 Flash. On the open side, Wan 3.0—launched by Alibaba immediately after a $10 billion share sale and reported to have beaten closed rivals in human evaluation—stood out alongside Qwen-Image 2.1 benchmarks and its rapid ComfyUI integration, plus stable-diffusion.cpp (★7,148) entering GitHub Trending.

Lemmy — Keyword search was extremely noisy, so collection quickly switched to direct browsing of specialist communities. The result was entirely open-source focused: Qwen-Image 2.1, Krea2 LoRAs, MiniMax H3 tools, LoRAs for LTX-2.5, and the decentralized free-generation infrastructure AI Horde. In contrast, targeted searches found no September posts at all for closed-model stories such as Sora’s shutdown, Veo price cuts, or Grok Imagine. The absence of activity itself was a finding. Roughly 9 relevant posts were found, below the 20-post completion target.

Pinterest — Collected 50 posts and closely read 20. “Best AI video tool” listicles featuring Runway, Pika, Kling, Luma, Hailuo, Veo, and Sora completely dominated, alongside AI-news thumbnails featuring a shocked bearded man and logo grids, plus anxiety around the trustworthiness of AI anchors. By contrast, not one sampled post mentioned open-source model names such as Stable Diffusion, Flux, ComfyUI, Wan, or Hunyuan. Pinterest was confirmed as a platform heavily tilted toward monetizable, consumer-facing closed tools.

What to watch

Recommendations

  • Continue tracking the adoption speed of Wan 3.0 and Qwen-Image 2.1 to determine whether the quality reversal between open and closed models becomes durable.
  • Follow Google Veo’s price cuts and Nano Banana 2.5’s rollout to see how far price competition accelerates after Sora’s exit.
  • Build a list of Reddit-originated backlash and harm cases involving AI output passed off as real—microscopy competitions, real estate, and CEO firings—and monitor whether they lead to regulation or litigation.
  • In the next X and Reddit collection run, explicitly include open-source search terms such as "Stable Diffusion," "Flux," "ComfyUI," "Wan," and "Qwen" to fill the gaps that produced zero coverage this time.
  • Do not use Pinterest as an indicator of open-source momentum. Treat it strictly as a source for judging the current commercial appeal of consumer-facing closed tools.
  • Direct XRPC querying of Bluesky (api.bsky.app’s app.bsky.feed.searchPosts) produced dramatically more useful results than other platforms, so prioritize it as the standard collection method in future runs.

Data quality

Bluesky was the only platform to substantially exceed the completion threshold, with more than 200 posts collected across 12 queries. Reddit and Lemmy fell short of the target of roughly 20 posts, with 12 and around 9 respectively; for Lemmy, this was due to both noisy search APIs and the platform’s smaller scale. X had the weakest data quality in this run: Explore was fixed to Croatia, 8 of 10 search terms were unrelated, only 7–8 relevant posts were found, and there were zero open-source mentions. YouTube’s JavaScript rendering prevented collection of view counts, subscriber counts, and publishing dates, ruling out quantitative comparison. Pinterest did not reflect breaking September news such as Sora’s complete shutdown because collection was a one-off batch; only 20 of 50 posts were closely read, and the absence of open source may still reflect search-query bias.

What people say
  • Thread #1 (r/labrats, 1,101 points, 131 comments, 2026-09-23): https://www.reddit.com/r/labrats/comments/1wo0j5e/ — It emerged that a first-place video in Nikon Small World in Motion, a microscopy-image competition, had been AI-“enhanced.” The poster pointed to biologically impossible motion: cilia abruptly disappearing and blue, nucleus-like structures teleporting. The top comment (u/Barkinsons, 629 points) stated flatly that AI tools have no place in scientific microscopy images.
  • Thread #3 (r/mildlyinfuriating, 26,941 points, 722 comments, 2026-09-21): https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinfuriating/comments/1wmja6n/ — A discussion about AI-generated “concept” images being used in real-estate viewing photos. The poster noted that a radiator had been removed from the image, making the depicted staging impossible to recreate. u/BojackWorseman13 (1,141 points) commented that people should call out the agency on social media and that the images should be prominently labeled as AI-generated.
  • Thread #9 (r/antiai, 18,728 points, 634 comments, 2026-09-23): https://www.reddit.com/r/antiai/comments/1wnrfi6/ — A report that DreamWorks added a disclaimer to its new film Forgotten Island prohibiting use of the content for AI training, reportedly discovered via YouTube. However, the highest-rated comment by u/SlowlyDyingInAPit (2,586 points) responded coldly that AI companies would ignore it anyway, as they always have. u/Arckanoid (145 points) suggested it was less about stopping misuse than establishing grounds for litigation.
  • Thread #11 (r/WhitePeopleTwitter, 470 points, 56 comments, 2026-09-25): https://www.reddit.com/r/WhitePeopleTwitter/comments/1wq3juw/ — A CEO was fired after using an AI-generated image of a “Lake America” sweater. u/samanime (236 points) commented that this kind of behavior might decrease if more people faced consequences. It is an unusual concrete case of corporate use of AI-generated content leading to an actual firing.
  • Thread #5 (r/DeepSeek, 314 points, 51 comments, 2026-09-21): https://www.reddit.com/r/DeepSeek/comments/1wmcgex/ — An analysis argued that DeepSeek’s DAUs jumped from 120 million to 200 million (+66.7%) while compute capacity rose only 8.3%, contributing to declining quality and repeated-generation problems. The post also reported that DeepSeek ordered 160,000 Ascend 960DT units from Huawei, linking to articles from nbd.com.cn and ntdtv.com. u/Equivalent-Grass-527 (14 points) said the mismatch between demand and compute was the most convincing explanation for the recent degradation.
  • Thread #12 (r/StableDiffusion, 0 points, 19 comments, 2026-09-25): https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/1wpr4uf/ — A thread asking for current recommendations for open-source and local models. The comment consensus was: Krea 2 for image generation, replacing the older Z-Image Turbo; Qwen-Image 2.1 for image editing, with u/Jackkgold warning users to check commercial-use licensing; and MiniMax H3 for video. u/Cultural-Broccoli-41 highlighted SenseNova-U1.5 as a powerful image-editing model under the Apache-2.0 license.
  • Thread #4 (r/generativeAI, 7 points, 38 comments, 2026-09-23): https://www.reddit.com/r/generativeAI/comments/1wog53q/ — In response to “How do you make long-form AI video?”, u/kaboom-o (2 points) explained a practical workflow: nobody generates a long video in one shot; the standard approach is script → accumulated 5–15 second clips → editing. For extended face consistency, they use Seedance 2.5, which supports up to roughly 30 seconds and native audio; for cheap motion drafts, Grok Imagine Video at 480p and 5 seconds; and Gemini Omni Flash when photorealism matters. u/AlfieSchmalfie (2 points) shared a case study: 12 minutes, 148 shots, 8 weeks, and roughly AUD 1,000, excluding Runway and ElevenLabs subscriptions.
  • Thread #8 (r/GenAI4all, 165 points, 63 comments, 2026-09-24): https://www.reddit.com/r/GenAI4all/comments/1wou5vb/ — A retrospective thread on “AI videos that went viral in 2024.” Comments such as u/MinosAristos’s observation that the piece turned synthetic media’s weaknesses into strengths and became “pure cinema” underscored how enormous the quality gap feels between then and now.
  • Threads #2, #6, #7, and #10 (all r/generativeAI/r/aivideomaking, 2–17 points, 2026-09-19–22): Near-identical posts asking for free AI video-generation tools appeared repeatedly, including r/aivideomaking https://www.reddit.com/r/aivideomaking/comments/1wled0f/ and r/generativeAI https://www.reddit.com/r/generativeAI/comments/1wlec1u/ among others. Answers split between the reality check that “free doesn’t exist—compute is not free” from u/SRD-Social (4 points), and introductions to tools with free tiers, including Muse, Meta (watermark-free 10 seconds), Nanobanana/Veo in Google Flow’s free tier, and dreamfort.ai/video. Automated bot u/Jenna_AI also repeatedly posted a sardonic boilerplate response along the lines of “don’t expect to run H100s for free.”
Signals
  • Rising: In open-source and local-model discussion in r/StableDiffusion, Krea 2, Qwen-Image 2.1, MiniMax H3, and SenseNova-U1.5 have become default names in a short period. Comments convey the rapid replacement cycle, with several people saying “Z-Image Turbo is already old.”
  • Concrete instances of anti-AI sentiment: r/antiai, r/mildlyinfuriating, and r/WhitePeopleTwitter share a pattern that goes beyond generic complaints: firings, reporting campaigns, and legal measures prohibiting training. Opposition to AI-generated output is shifting from abstraction to concrete social costs.
  • Strain on the closed side: The DeepSeek thread offers a rare internal perspective on the limits of a large, closed-leaning service: quality declining because rapid growth has outstripped compute resources.
  • Clashing views: In Thread #9, the post presents DreamWorks’ no-training clause as a major win, while the most upvoted response mockingly says AI companies will not care and nothing will change. The contrast in attitude within a single thread is stark.
  • The supposedly trivial demand should not be underestimated: Repeated near-identical requests for free AI video tools accounted for all four of four such posts. What appears to be noise is actually the highest-volume area of real demand, along with the culture of formulaic bot taunts directed at it.
  • Surprising point: AI manipulation made its way into a prestigious setting that should have had nothing to do with AI—a scientific competition, Nikon Small World in Motion—and the community itself investigated and exposed it (Thread #1). It is an example of expert-community self-correction arriving before top-down regulation.
Limits
  • The sole search term was "Image and Video Generation AI News," producing just 12 threads across 9 subreddits. This did not reach the target of roughly 20 posts. Additional searches for model names such as Krea, Qwen, Seedance, and Sora, or terms such as "open source diffusion" and "closed source video AI," would likely have found more material, but only results from this single query were available in this run.
  • This stage only loaded data collected in advance by a headless browser. It could not access or search Reddit further, nor view all comments within threads; only the top six comments of each thread were available.
  • Thread #8 (r/GenAI4all) and Thread #11 (r/WhitePeopleTwitter) had very short or missing bodies, so their meaning was inferred from the title and top comments only.
  • The nbd.com.cn and ntdtv.com articles mentioned within the DeepSeek thread were confirmed only as links in the Reddit post; the articles themselves were not read in this run because they fell outside the Reddit thread scope.

Explore trends were shown for Croatia, based on the server location used by this session: 7 of 8 displayed items said “Trending in Croatia.” This means the Explore list reflects Croatian rather than global trends. The 10 searched terms were "Taylor", "#sweepstakes", "#giveaways", "#chance", "Opus 5.5", "Slovenia", "Italy", "Cardano", "Croatia", and "Claude". Only "Opus 5.5" and "Claude" were relevant to image and video generation AI. The other eight terms returned unrelated posts about Taylor Swift, South African football, Cardano cryptocurrency, Luka Dončić, and Dove Cameron’s marriage. Only topic-relevant posts are analyzed below.

Opus 5.5 can do this too. Create a 9-panel dance image with GPT Images 2.5; use Grok for a green-screen dance video; use Opus 5.5 for motion graphics; replace the audio with Astra.
→ This introduces a “multi-tool stack” workflow that assigns roles to GPT Images 2.5, Grok, Opus 5.5, and Astra for a single production. Rather than completing work in one model, interoperability between multiple closed tools is becoming the practical demonstration trend.

  2. #18 @seiiiiiiiiiiru — 554 likes, 75 reposts, 29 replies, about 45,000 views, 2026-09-24

AI ad video → AI voice × AI editing. We can call this the finish line already, right? lol. I had Claude Opus 5.5 generate narration with Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS...
→ AI voice plus AI editing is presented as the endpoint for advertising-video production. A concrete production example combining Claude Opus 5.5 and Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS.

The one-shot prompt actually produced a better result, which is a little sad... I also made a 15-second self-introduction video with Claude Code’s Opus 5.5. It downloaded fonts on its own and even made the music feel right!!!
→ The surprising part is that Claude Code, using Opus 5.5, autonomously downloaded fonts and selected music. This is less “video generation” and more using it as a video-production agent.

Just by asking Claude Code to “add a new motion,” I was able to use a tool that adds Live2D motions... The model used was Opus 5.5 xhigh.
→ A tool demonstration that automatically adds Live2D motions, such as yawning and sneezing, through Claude Code rather than generating images or video directly. The mention of “xhigh,” an Opus 5.5 reasoning-strength setting, is also noteworthy.

3D camera × dimensional text effects, part 2. Editing that you would make in After Effects is now possible with Claude Opus or Codex too. Top: Seedance 2.5 prev. Bottom: Codex + Hyperframes skill.
→ A side-by-side comparison between Seedance 2.5 for video generation and Codex + Hyperframes skill. It reflects the trend of substituting code-generation AI for After Effects-level visual effects.

Claude Opus 5.5 motion graphics. I asked genius Opus 5.5 to explain how it made this... index.html → make it draw each frame → render.py to turn it into a video file.
→ The most-liked Opus 5.5 post in this collection. It is popular for an approach that does not use an image-generation model: have AI write a drawing program, render it frame by frame, and turn it into video.

  7. #40 @bond_ai1 — 499 likes, 46 reposts, 3 replies, about 69,000 views, 2026-09-25

The era of needing Premiere Pro or outsourcing cuts is over. Just give Claude Code your footage, and “video-use” will deliver a fully automatic, professional-quality video.
→ A tool called “video-use” for Claude Code is introduced as offering fully automated editing. It illustrates AI’s expansion into automatic editing of existing footage rather than generation alone.

(#39 from @samcoderx was a general thread on how to use Claude and did not directly address image or video generation, so it is included only as background.)

Signals
  • Rising: Nearly all Opus 5.5-related posts demonstrate a “multi-tool pipeline” centered on Claude Opus 5.5 and combining closed tools such as GPT Images 2.5, Grok, Gemini TTS, and Astra to complete a video. Repeated discussion centers not on one-shot prompts for a single model, but on Claude Code as a “video-production agent” that autonomously gathers materials, edits, and selects music.
  • Overlooked / unmentioned: None of the collected posts mentioned open-source image or video generation AI—Stable Diffusion-family tools, Flux, ComfyUI, Wan, HunyuanVideo, and so on. The direct cause is that no open-source terms were included in the search set, but within the 40 collected posts and 7 relevant posts, discussion was entirely skewed toward closed tools: Claude/Opus, GPT Images, Grok, Gemini, and Seedance.
  • Surprising point: Eight of the 10 Explore-driven trend searches—Taylor, #sweepstakes, #giveaways, #chance, Slovenia, Italy, Cardano, and Croatia—were unrelated to the topic. Croatia’s Explore page did not trend niche AI-creation tools; this shows the conversation exists not as a mainstream viral topic, but as long-tail sharing among individual practitioners.
Limits
  • Since Explore was fixed to Croatia, five search terms—"Slovenia," "Italy," "Cardano," "Croatia," and others—returned only topic-irrelevant results and were excluded.
  • "Taylor," "#sweepstakes," "#giveaways," and "#chance" were likewise unrelated, producing music news, giveaway campaigns, South African football, and Korean illustration-tag content.
  • The query set did not include Japanese or English open-source keywords corresponding to "Stable Diffusion," "Flux," "ComfyUI," "Wan," or "open source," so X collection captured no open-source activity at all. These terms must be explicitly searched next time.
  • Of the 40 collected posts, only 7–8 directly concerned the topic. X did not meet the brief’s target of analyzing roughly 20 posts, due to regional Explore behavior and the search-term selection.

Signals
  • Closed-source video-generation coverage is dominated by horizontal multi-model comparison videos such as “Seedance vs Kling vs Veo vs Sora,” suggesting stronger demand for comparison content than standalone reviews (#2, #3).
  • xAI’s Grok Imagine was commonly framed as an uncensored or provocative-content product through the first half of 2026, but August-era videos (#4, #5) show a contextual shift toward treating it as a serious competitor to Veo and Sora.
  • Google is frequently covered through both image generation (Nano Banana Pro) and video (Flow, Omni), and is more often discussed as an ecosystem than as a single model.
  • Lightricks’ LTX-2.5, announced on 2026-08-11, symbolizes the open-source camp: independent creators had already produced ComfyUI installation and test videos within a week (#10), demonstrating exceptionally fast community response.
  • Multiple channels frame Alibaba/Tongyi’s Z-Image Turbo as the “free version of Nano Banana Pro,” making the open-versus-closed opposition visible in the video titles themselves (#11, #12).
  • Long tutorials exceeding 30 minutes, such as those from SECourses, assume workflows that combine Wan, FLUX, Qwen-Image, and other open models, showing a shift away from operating a single model in isolation (#8).
Limits
  • YouTube search-result pages (/results?search_query=...) and video pages (/watch?v=...) are rendered with JavaScript. WebFetch returned only static footer content such as terms and copyright notices, so view counts, subscriber counts, publication dates, and comments could not be read directly.
  • WebSearch queries such as site:youtube.com and YouTube’s oEmbed endpoint (https://www.youtube.com/oembed?url=...&format=json) were used instead to identify titles and channels, but neither provides view or subscriber counts. All videos are therefore listed as having unknown views.
  • Publication dates are estimates based on WebSearch snippets, with some left as relative labels such as “two weeks ago” or “one month ago” relative to the reference date of 2026-09-26.
  • Video descriptions and comments could not be accessed directly, so viewer reactions are not included in this report.
  • No YouTube video directly addressing OpenAI’s September 24, 2026 Sora API retirement was found; the comparison videos all predated it.

Bluesky

Bluesky — Image and Video Generation AI News

The main bsky.app site is a JavaScript-rendered SPA, so WebFetch could not retrieve content from either search pages or individual post pages—it returned only the string Bluesky. The official public.api.bsky.app endpoint was also blocked with a 403. However, the plain api.bsky.app endpoint without public. was live, allowing collection and analysis of more than 200 posts through the app.bsky.feed.searchPosts JSON API. Twelve queries were used: stable diffusion, midjourney, Sora 2, Veo 3, Nano Banana, Flux image model, ComfyUI, Sora API shutdown, Wan 3.0 video, Seedance, Grok Imagine, and HunyuanVideo/LTX Video, with 20–25 posts each. Only posts directly related to the topic are extracted below.

My fight with ComfyUI has finally settled down, and it can now generate video with MiniMaxH3.
→ An individual’s trial-and-error report of running MiniMax H3 through ComfyUI, illustrating local integration of an open or semi-open video model.

Signals

Closed-source developments

  • OpenAI fully retired the Sora brand: the original app shut down in April 2026, and Sora 2, Sora 2 Pro, the Videos API, and all model aliases stopped on September 24, with no replacement roadmap. A billion-dollar Disney partnership also collapsed, and Disney was reportedly notified with less than an hour’s notice.
  • Sora’s poor economics—$1 million per day in losses versus $2.1 million in lifetime revenue—are being openly cited as a lesson that even a frontier model will end if it cannot become commercially viable.
  • As Sora exited, Google reportedly repriced its Veo-family video API at one-quarter of its own flagship tier, signaling aggressive price competition.
  • Google’s Nano Banana image-generation line is rumored to be moving from version 2 to 2.5 Flash. Users are already directly comparing it against GPT Image 2.5 with identical prompts, making it a de facto main battleground.
  • ByteDance’s Seedance 2.5 is becoming standardized among video creators, to the point of being used via third-party platforms such as Runway. Fast credit consumption is repeatedly discussed.
  • Kling 3.0 and Grok Imagine have also become embedded in individual-creator workflows, including icon creation, vlog-style videos, and multi-model Auto-Director features.
  • Advisory posts responding to the Sora API shutdown name Seedance 2.0, LTX, and Runway as migration destinations.

Open-source developments

  • Alibaba’s open-weight Wan 3.0 reportedly topped human-evaluation rankings above closed video models, launching immediately after a $10 billion share sale.
  • Alibaba’s Qwen-Image 2.1, a 7B-parameter image model with a benchmark score of 60.2, became available as a node from official ComfyUI organization Comfy-Org shortly after release.
  • The lightweight local C++ inference engine stable-diffusion.cpp (★7,148), spanning SD, Flux, Wan, Qwen Image, and Z-Image, entered GitHub Trending.
  • SDXL/FLUX LoRAs are being mass-produced across Huawei’s Ascend NPU ecosystem on Modelers.cn, though many lack model cards, trigger words, or samples and are low quality. Higher-quality LoRAs with Apache-2.0 licensing, commercial-use permission, and no retraining requirement are relatively rare.
  • Individual users are attempting local MiniMax H3 video generation through ComfyUI, alongside published performance-comparison material.
  • Overall, open models are moving on two layers: rapid ComfyUI ports of large Alibaba models such as Wan and Qwen, and grassroots LoRA production in Huawei’s Ascend ecosystem.
Limits
  • bsky.app search and individual-post pages are client-side rendered SPAs. WebFetch retrieved no body content, only the word Bluesky.
  • The official XRPC endpoint at public.api.bsky.app, documented by Bluesky, consistently returned 403 Forbidden in this session. The unprefixed api.bsky.app worked and was used instead, but future bot protections could block it too.
  • Direct Bash curl requests required sandbox network approval and could not be run unattended, so collection was completed entirely through WebFetch.
  • Searching Veo 3 produced heavy noise because veo is the Spanish first-person verb “I see” and also matched the radio show “Logan Veo.” Only one direct Google Veo mention was collected, inside a Nano Banana-related thread. A dedicated Google Veo query was not performed.
  • HunyuanVideo and LTX Video returned zero hits, so no model-specific Bluesky discussion was found for them using these queries.
  • The search API appears to cap limit at 25, returning only the latest posts. It did not support long-term historical trend analysis.

Lemmy

Lemmy — Image and Video Generation AI News

Lemmy searches using terms such as “image generation AI,” “video generation AI,” “Sora shutdown,” “Nano Banana,” “Grok Imagine,” “Wan 2.2 OR Wan 3,” and “Flux image model” against the lemmy.world /api/v3/search API were overwhelmed by irrelevant matches, including partial matches in comment bodies. Keyword search was therefore abandoned early in favor of directly browsing established communities specializing in AI image generation.

  8. We are saying goodbye to Sora (!«メールアドレス», -11 points, 4 comments, 2026-03-24)
https://lemmy.world/post/44702049 → A verbatim repost of OpenAI’s announcement ending the original Sora app, thanking everyone who made work with Sora. Lemmy users reacted coldly, leaving it at a negative score. No newer Lemmy posts were found about the late-September full shutdown of Sora 2 and the Videos API; this March repost was the only substantial Sora-related post.

  9. Interesting Facts about Perchance (!«メールアドレス», 3 points, 18 comments, 2026-08-05)
https://lemmy.world/post/50319371 → A thread noting that the image-generation portion of the free AI site Perchance uses the open model Flux, and that it also uses a free open DeepSeek text model. It is an example of open-model names reaching general users in the context of free-to-use AI tools.

Signals
  • Nearly all upward momentum is on the open-source side: Lemmy’s only active specialist community, !«メールアドレス», mechanically tracks new HuggingFace and GitHub releases. Names such as Qwen-Image 2.1, Krea 2, MiniMax H3, and LTX appeared heavily over the past two weeks. The same set of “hot open models” observed on Reddit and Bluesky flowed into Lemmy with little delay.
  • Closed-model news is structurally thin: Multiple targeted searches found no new posts for major September closed-source stories including Sora’s shutdown, Nano Banana, Veo price cuts, Grok Imagine, and Seedance. The only Sora hit was a negatively received repost of the March announcement. Lemmy’s technical and DIY-oriented audience appears more interested in the supply of models and tools it can run itself than in news about corporate closed services.
  • Engagement is generally low: stable_diffusion posts mostly receive 1–13 points and zero comments, without the lively discussion found on Reddit. On Lemmy, topic salience can only be measured through post volume and update frequency; it is not a strong signal of sentiment or enthusiasm.
  • General communities lean AI-skeptical: In !fuck_ai, AI-critical communities, and !machinelearning, discussion centers more on AI dependence, data-center power usage, and the history of Stability AI’s financial crisis than on image or video generation itself.
Limits
  • Lemmy search API precision is low. Searches for “image generation AI,” “video generation AI,” “Sora shutdown,” “Nano Banana,” “Grok Imagine,” “Wan 2.2 OR Wan 3,” and “Flux image model” mostly returned irrelevant results, including partial comment-body matches. The analysis therefore switched to direct specialist-community browsing, meaning topics in other instances may have been missed.
  • No dedicated video-generation community was found on Lemmy. Video-model activity could only be observed as ComfyUI-tool posts in !«メールアドレス».
  • No September news about closed products—OpenAI Sora, Google Nano Banana/Veo, xAI Grok Imagine, or ByteDance Seedance—was found on Lemmy. The only related item was a repost of the March announcement. That practical absence of topics widely covered elsewhere is itself indicative of the platform’s character.
  • The target of analyzing roughly 20 posts was not met. Lemmy is a small platform, and roughly the nine posts above were the practical upper limit of substantive, directly relevant material; the rest was noise from irrelevant search results or inactive communities. This matches the playbook’s premise that Lemmy is small-scale.
  • Communities such as !«メールアドレス», which appeared only by name in search results, returned API 404 errors and could not be verified.

Pinterest — Image and Video Generation AI News

Visual themes
  • The "best AI tools" listicle infographic dominates the board: dark-navy or black backgrounds, one neon-purple/blue/pink gradient wrapped around a bold sans-serif headline ("6+ BEST AI VIDEO GENERATION WEBSITES", "12 BEST AI VIDEO GENERATORS"), numbered rows or a phone-mockup frame, each row pairing a tool logo with a one-line pitch and a sample generated image [1, 7, 42].
  • A chrome/glass humanoid robot head or android in profile, lit blue, is the default illustration for any "AI is changing everything" or "future of AI" pin — used interchangeably for image-gen news, video-gen news, and generic AI-industry news, which makes the genre hard to tell apart from stock "AI hype" content [2, 16, 19].
  • Real product screenshots of generative video tools appear as small inset thumbnails inside the infographics rather than as standalone hero images — e.g. Adobe Premiere's new in-timeline "Generate Video/Sound" panel [3], and Luma AI's "Dream Machine" cinematic wave shot and Kling AI's warrior-on-cliff shot used as demo stills inside a listicle [1, 7].
  • Vertical "phone-stack" collage art: dozens of stacked smartphone screens showing short-form video content (a runner, a cat, mountain b-roll) climbing into the sky like a skyscraper, used to illustrate "AI content is everywhere" / social-video-growth pins rather than any specific tool [6].
  • YouTube-thumbnail style AI-news pins: a shocked or excited bearded man's face next to 2–4 brand logos (OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Notion) in glowing rounded squares, blue/black background, bold white "AI NEWS" text — this is a recurring channel-thumbnail format repurposed as a pin across multiple different creators [24, 38].
  • Before/after and comparison grids for video-to-anything transformation: a single source clip of a person walking, restyled into "wooden blocks," "origami paper art," "colorful toy bricks," and "made of flowers" in a 5-column grid, credited to Luma's tool watermark — the clearest actual product demo found in the set [28].
  • AI-anchor / deepfake news framing: an "AI GENERATED" badge overlaid on an NBC News-branded weather-reporter clip, snow scene, parka-clad presenter — directly illustrating the "can we trust AI news video" storyline [32].
  • Funnel/mind-map infographics for whole content pipelines: a circular "AI-powered ecosystem" hand-holding-icons graphic [47], and a sprawling "AI-Powered Video Creation for YouTube & Instagram" mind map naming ChatGPT, Claude 3, Pictory AI, Runway Gen-3, Synthesia, ElevenLabs, Midjourney, Descript, CapCut AI, VidIQ, and Leonardo AI as one combined workflow, oddly anchored to a "free movies/TV" piracy site (www.moviesgratis.xyz) [13].
Notable pins
  • [1] "6+ Best AI Video Generation Websites" — a full tool-ranking infographic naming Runway, Pika, Kling AI, Luma AI (Dream Machine), Canva AI Video Generator, and Hailuo AI, each with a sample still and target-audience label; the clearest single snapshot of which closed-source video tools Pinterest creators are pushing right now.
  • [3] "4 Major AI Updates You Need to Know in 2026" — names four concrete closed-source items in one pin: OpenAI "GPT-6 Astra", Google Gemini going "more agentic" across Gmail/Drive/Docs/Slides/Chat, Adobe Premiere's new in-timeline generative video/sound feature, and Cognition (Devin) raising a $2B Series E at a $48B valuation.
  • [7] "12 Best AI Video Generators in 2026" — a second, longer ranking (Google Veo, OpenAI Sora, Runway, Kling AI, Pika, Luma Dream Machine, HeyGen, Synthesia, InVideo AI, Vidu AI, Hailuo AI, PixVerse AI) — cross-checking it against pin [1] shows Runway, Pika, Kling, Luma and Hailuo as the names that repeat across independent creators, i.e. the current consensus shortlist.
  • [13] "AI Content Studio & Automation Secrets" — the moviesgratis.xyz mind-map bundling ChatGPT, Claude 3, Pictory AI, Runway Gen-3, Synthesia, Midjourney, ElevenLabs, Descript, CapCut AI, VidIQ, Leonardo AI into a single "idea → publish" pipeline; useful as a snapshot of which tools SEO/affiliate creators treat as the default video-generation stack, though the destination site itself looks like a pirated-streaming lead-gen page, not a credible source.
  • [24] "AI News: Anthropic Leak Shows Us The Future of AI" — a YouTube-thumbnail pin (OpenAI/Google/Microsoft/OpenAI logos, shocked creator face) claiming an Anthropic leak; the pin text makes the claim but the thumbnail itself shows no Anthropic content, so the substance is unverifiable from the image alone.
  • [28] "Google announces ultra-high quality video..." — a 5-condition x 3-subject grid (source video restyled as wooden blocks / origami / toy bricks / flowers, on a person, a dog, and a car) watermarked "Luma"; this is the single most concrete video-generation product demo in the set — a real style-transfer capability shown on real footage rather than marketing copy.
  • [32] "AI news videos blur line between real and fake reports" — an NBC News-branded clip with an "AI GENERATED" badge over a snow-scene weather report; directly visualizes the growing "AI-anchor" controversy rather than just naming it.
  • [38] "AI News: OpenAI Finally Released What We Asked For" — another shocked-face/logo-grid AI-news thumbnail (OpenAI, Google, Meta, Notion); pattern-matches [24] closely enough that this appears to be a recurring channel/thumbnail template rather than one-off news, worth noting as a format rather than a scoop.
  • [43] "generate ai images, art, illustration, using with midjourney" — one of the only pins in the batch to name Midjourney directly rather than burying it inside a multi-tool infographic, but the image itself is a generic triple-monitor desk mockup with no visible Midjourney output, so it reads as an SEO/affiliate pin rather than a real showcase.
Signals
  • Closed-source consumer video tools are the dominant story on this platform. Runway, Pika, Kling AI, Luma (Dream Machine), Hailuo AI, Google Veo, OpenAI Sora, HeyGen, Synthesia, InVideo AI, Vidu AI, and PixVerse AI all repeat across independently-titled pins [1, 7], which is a stronger signal than any single pin — this is the current "best-of" consensus among content-marketing creators.
  • Trust/authenticity anxiety is a visible sub-theme, not just tool promotion: AI-generated-news-anchor deepfakes [32], "AI voice detectors" and watermarking-for-provenance graphics [19, 40], and "can we still trust journalism" framing appear repeatedly alongside the tool listicles.
  • Enterprise/agentic AI news leaks into the same board: Gemini's agentic push into Workspace apps and Cognition/Devin's $2B raise [3] show up in an "image/video AI" search, suggesting Pinterest's algorithm blends general AI-industry news into this niche rather than keeping it purely about generative media.
  • Open-source image/video models are almost entirely absent. No pin in the sampled set names Stable Diffusion, Flux, ComfyUI, LoRA, Hunyuan, Wan, or any other open-weight image/video model — Midjourney [43] and generic "Midjourney/Leonardo AI" mentions [13] are the closest thing to a non-mega-cap-corporate name, and even those are closed-source products, not open-weight ones. This is itself a finding: Pinterest's audience/algorithm for this theme skews toward monetizable "best free tools" and side-hustle content, not toward open-source/self-hosted generation communities.
  • Little primary-source material. The vast majority of pins are secondary aggregator content (listicles, "AI news" thumbnails, mind maps) rather than a company's own announcement or a creator's own generated output; pin [28]'s Luma style-transfer grid was the only pin that reads as an actual first-party product demo rather than commentary about the industry.
Limits
  • The worker's headless-browser search returned a single flat batch of 50 pins for the query "Image and Video Generation AI News" with no genre subdivision (all pins share genre ""), so this report could not compare across defined sub-genres as the playbook's genre-by-genre format allows for other runs.
  • I read and describe 20 of the 50 collected images in detail (a representative spread across the full index range, per the brief's "~20 posts" completion criterion); the remaining 30 were not opened individually, though their titles (visible in output/pinterest.pins.md) were reviewed and are consistent with the same listicle/AI-news-thumbnail pattern described above (e.g. "best free 15 ai tools" [42], "Latest AI News & Articles" [45], several untitled stock-image pins [5, 10, 22, 25, 29, 33, 48, 49, 50]).
  • Several pins have no title ("(untitled)") and their images (not opened) may contain useful captions or on-image text not captured here.
  • No pin in the sampled set surfaced open-source model names (Stable Diffusion, Flux, ComfyUI, Wan, Hunyuan, etc.); I cannot confirm whether this is a true absence on Pinterest for this theme or an artifact of the specific search query the worker used — a query targeted at "open source image generation" specifically might surface a different pin set.
  • As instructed, I did not browse Pinterest myself or attempt to verify claims (e.g. the "Anthropic leak" in pin [24]) beyond what the collected image shows; several AI-news-thumbnail pins make claims in their titles that aren't verifiable from the thumbnail image alone.

Recommended actions

  • Continue monitoring the adoption speed of Wan 3.0 and Qwen-Image 2.1 to determine whether the quality reversal between open and closed models becomes established.
  • Track Google Veo’s price cuts and Nano Banana 2.5’s rollout to assess how rapidly price competition accelerates following Sora’s withdrawal.
  • Compile Reddit-originated controversy and harm cases involving AI impersonation—microscopy competitions, real estate, and CEO firings—and monitor whether they lead to regulatory or litigation activity.
  • In future X and Reddit collection runs, add explicit open-source terms such as Stable Diffusion, Flux, ComfyUI, Wan, and Qwen to close the zero-coverage gaps from this run.
  • Do not use Pinterest as an indicator of open-source momentum; use it solely as a source for gauging the popularity of consumer-facing closed tools.

Data quality notes

Bluesky substantially exceeded the completion threshold with 12 queries and more than 200 posts. Reddit (12 posts), X (7–8 posts, zero open-source mentions due to Croatia-fixed regional trends), and Lemmy (around 9 posts) did not reach the target of roughly 20 posts. YouTube could not provide view counts or subscriber counts because of JavaScript rendering limitations.
