Image and Video Generation AI News — 2026-09-30
While OpenAI has completely shut down the Sora app and API, Chinese open-source/open-weight models—including Alibaba's Qwen-Image-2.1 and Z-Image, and Tencent's HunyuanVideo 1.5—are rising simultaneously across Lemmy, Bluesky, Reddit, and YouTube.
Image and Video Generation AI News — 2026-09-30
Honestly, the two hottest stories right now are “Sora is gone” and the “Chinese open-source festival” 🔥. On the closed side, OpenAI’s complete shutdown of the Sora app and API on 2026-09-24 is genuinely huge news, while Google’s Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image) looks poised to take the image-generation crown. On the open side, Alibaba’s Qwen-Image-2.1 and Z-Image, plus Tencent’s HunyuanVideo 1.5, are all going viral at once on Reddit, Lemmy, Bluesky, and YouTube—Chinese players are seriously dominating 🐉. That said, people everywhere are also pointing out that Qwen-Image-2.1 is “open-weight but licensed for non-commercial use,” so the debate over whether it should really be called “open source” comes bundled with the hype. More broadly, it felt like controversy around AI-made images and videos being exposed or misused was attracting more attention than the technical news itself.
Across platforms
- The Chinese open-source trio (Qwen-Image-2.1 / Z-Image / HunyuanVideo 1.5) appeared independently across all four platforms. Lemmy’s !stable_diffusion received a flood of ComfyUI integration posts (LanPaint, fooocus-qwen-image-2.1, and more); individual Bluesky accounts reported on them first; Reddit’s r/StableDiffusion thread “Vlo 0.3” included Qwen2.1 workflows; and multiple YouTube channels released review videos. This is easily the hottest cross-platform trend right now 🔥
- The issue of being “open-weight but not truly open source” is being raised simultaneously on YouTube and Lemmy. YouTube coverage explicitly notes that Qwen-Image-2.1 uses a research license that prohibits commercial redistribution, while Lemmy has also seen scattered license discussions.
- The effects of Sora’s shutdown have reached Reddit as well as YouTube. In r/SoraAi, speculation such as “Is this groundwork for Sora 3?” and “Apparently the person who made it has already left” is gaining traction (thread 7, 55 points), matching the mood of YouTube’s rush of “alternative tool” videos.
- Stories about AI-generated content being exposed or misused surfaced independently on Reddit, Lemmy, and Pinterest. There was backlash over AI-enhanced work in Nikon’s photo contest (Reddit r/labrats, 1,113 points); Google Earth AI was withdrawn within 24 hours after producing fabricated massacre imagery (Lemmy); and NBC News displayed an “AI GENERATED” label on weather-presenter footage (Pinterest). Different categories, but every network had the same sense that content becoming too convincing is itself dangerous.
- Official corporate accounts are not especially useful as news sources. On Bluesky, Black Forest Labs and Kling AI Video had zero posts, while RunwayML had one post in two years. Across platforms, news from individual technical accounts and specialist communities—such as Lemmy’s !stable_diffusion and Reddit specialist subs—was faster and more detailed.
Platform by platform
Reddit — Because the search used only one fixed phrase, it found just 11 threads—roughly half the target of 20—and only one each from specialist subs such as r/StableDiffusion and r/SoraAi. Still, r/singularity’s 1,554-point thread, “Video models are getting good,” was filled with commenters unnerved by hyper-realistic video, clearly conveying how rapidly closed video quality has improved 📈. On the open side, local ComfyUI users’ talk of being “free except for electricity” stood out.
X — A complete miss 😅. Of the 40 collected posts, effectively none mentioned AI image or video generation. The search terms themselves came directly from X Explore trends for Croatia—Italy vs. Türkiye football, Big Brother, and similar topics—so they had nothing to do with image or video generation AI. Even the one post surfaced by “Anthropic” was about stock prices and Skills tooling, not image or video generation. This was not a limitation of X as a platform, but a mismatch in the collection approach: using Explore-derived search terms.
YouTube — This was the richest source of information 🎬. It offered a detailed timeline for Sora’s shutdown (app discontinued April 26, API shut down September 24, with theories citing operating costs of around ¥1.5 billion per day), while multiple channels testified to Nano Banana Pro’s runaway momentum. The open side also had rapid reviews of Qwen-Image-2.1, Z-Image Turbo/Base, and HunyuanVideo 1.5, making YouTube the platform where the momentum of Chinese players was easiest to feel in numbers. However, YouTube search pages themselves were JavaScript-rendered and unreadable, so view counts and similar figures relied on secondary sources.
Bluesky — The post-search API was blocked with 403 errors, forcing a brute-force approach of checking individual accounts 💪. Even so, the fastest individual report on Qwen-Image-2.1 was found (81 likes, the strongest reaction observed in this run), along with test posts for SkyReels V1 and HunyuanVideo I2V. A notable discovery was that official accounts for Black Forest Labs and Kling AI Video had zero posts, suggesting the platform barely functions as a corporate news channel. There were also many illustrators displaying “NO AI” in their profiles, making Bluesky feel like a platform with relatively strong anti-AI sentiment.
Lemmy — By far the number-one source for open-source information 🏆. !«メールアドレス» alone saw more than 20 tool and model posts in the previous two weeks, making the wave of Qwen-Image-2.1 ComfyUI integrations visible in real time. By contrast, closed-model news appeared only as reposted articles or in event-driven contexts such as “suicide after Grok misuse,” while the overall atmosphere was skeptical of AI and strongly critical of “AI slop.”
Pinterest — A den of closed-source SaaS comparison content 🖼️. There were many infographics comparing Runway, Pika, Kling, Luma, Canva, and Hailuo—essentially “which should you choose?” content. Specific new-model announcements such as Veo 3, Gemini Omni, and China’s ShengShu Vidu S1 also appeared. Open-source coverage was limited to an isolated AMD Amuse 3.0 item, with almost none of the technical-community flavor associated with ComfyUI or LoRA—an understandable bias given Pinterest’s general-consumer audience.
What to watch
- OpenAI’s next video model (apparently codenamed “Spud”) — A key successor to watch after Sora’s shutdown. YouTube “OpenAI Shuts Down Sora & Kills ChatGPT Integration Plans” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rhmczPT6Jk
- Qwen-Image-2.1’s licensing issue — It is open-weight but not available for commercial use; watch how this develops. Lemmy “Qwen-Image-2.1 in ComfyUI” https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/75874773
- Nano Banana Pro / Gemini 3 Pro Image’s runaway lead — Despite incidents such as the Google Earth AI withdrawal, it remains a leading candidate for image-generation dominance. YouTube “Google Nano Banana Pro: The BEST Image Model!” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEtiY-0fzO0
- The battle for “number-one open-source video” between HunyuanVideo 1.5 and Wan 2.7 — The consumer-GPU video-model race. YouTube “We have a new #1 open-source AI video generator!” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EQP8-D37bs
- The move toward mandatory disclosure labels for AI-generated content — NBC News’s “AI GENERATED” display and the ByteDance–Hollywood copyright agreement may become tests for future regulation. Confirmed through a Pinterest thumbnail for the article “ByteDance and Hollywood reach global deal on AI copyright.”
- Civitai’s checkpoint notification bot has been inactive since 2024 — It is worth watching where the open-source community’s infrastructure has moved from Bluesky. Bluesky “@civitai-bot.bsky.social” https://bsky.app/profile/civitai-bot.bsky.social/post/3ks2nnatkqi24
Recommendations
- Next time, switch Reddit and X to direct searches for proper names such as “Qwen-Image,” “Sora,” “Nano Banana,” and “HunyuanVideo” to reduce trend-derived noise.
- Change X collection from dependence on X Explore trends to a pre-prepared list of image/video-generation AI terms.
- Continue monitoring Bluesky’s searchPosts API 403 issue, so comprehensive keyword searches can begin as soon as it is resolved.
- Make Qwen-Image-2.1 licensing developments—especially commercial-use eligibility—a fixed item in the next follow-up.
- Continue tracking Lemmy’s !stable_diffusion community as a recurring observation point because it is the fastest source for open-source news.
- Treat new model names appearing in Pinterest’s “tool comparison infographics” (such as ShengShu Vidu S1 in this run) as leads to verify on other platforms.
Data quality
X was almost entirely a miss because its search terms depended on X Explore trends—football and entertainment topics—rather than because of any intrinsic platform limitation. Reddit reached only 11 items against a target of 20, and because it used one fixed search phrase, it captured just one thread each from specialist subs such as r/StableDiffusion and r/SoraAi, skewing toward social-controversy threads. Bluesky could not perform comprehensive searches because the searchPosts API was blocked with 403 errors; instead, discovered URLs had to be verified one at a time through the API, leaving collection counts below the completion criteria. YouTube search-result and individual-video pages were JavaScript-rendered and unreadable, so most views and dates came from secondary sources such as Social Blade. Lemmy and Pinterest were relatively stable sources, but in opposite ways: Lemmy had thin closed-model coverage, while Pinterest had thin open-source coverage.
Platform-specific summaries
Reddit — Image and Video Generation AI News
Where
The worker searched using the single query "Image and Video Generation AI News" and collected 11 threads across 10 subreddits. Genre-specific AI image/video-generation communities (r/StableDiffusion and r/SoraAi) produced just one hit each; the remainder largely came from adjacent topics including K-pop, science, film, and religion.
| Subreddit | Members | Collected threads |
|---|---|---|
| r/kpop | 3,893,257 | 1 |
| r/generativeAI | 158,551 | 2 |
| r/labrats | 727,204 | 1 |
| r/GenAI4all | 48,939 | 1 |
| r/Earth199999 | 54,744 | 1 |
| r/SoraAi | 91,381 | 1 |
| r/StableDiffusion | 1,026,986 | 1 |
| r/singularity | 3,998,454 | 1 |
| r/perchance | 31,545 | 1 |
| r/Catholicism | 370,445 | 1 |
Even combined, r/generativeAI (a practical community for image/video-generation questions) and r/SoraAi/r/StableDiffusion (specialist communities for closed and open source, respectively) accounted for just 4 of the 11 collected items. The remaining 7 leaned toward ethical and social controversies around AI-generated content: K-pop deepfakes, scientific-image misconduct, Thanos memes, and AI imagery used in Mass.
What people say
- Open source: Thread 8, “Vlo 0.3” (r/StableDiffusion, 980 points, 71 comments, 2026-09-28) https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/1wsmat4/ — An open-source AI video editing/generation tool that integrates with ComfyUI. It includes workflows for Minimax H3, Qwen2.1, Krea2, and LTX2.5. The top comment by u/Amazing_Upstairs (16 points) requested “FastH3 support please,” while u/DeepHomage (10 points) reported an installation problem: “your update.bat file was detected as a malicious script by BitDefender.”
- Open source / practical knowledge: Thread 3, “How are people making long AI generated videos?” (r/generativeAI, 11 points, 53 comments, 2026-09-23) https://www.reddit.com/r/generativeAI/comments/1wog53q/ — u/kaboom-o (3 points) explains a current workflow that combines several models: “Nobody is generating a long video in one shot... Seedance 2.5 (up to ~30s, native audio)... Grok Imagine Video at 480p, 5s... Gemini Omni Flash.” u/WritingPrestigious78 (2 points) emphasizes the cost advantage of local ComfyUI use: “With my 5090, comfyui, minimax h3, no api costs all free just the electricity cost😄”.
- Closed source: Thread 7, “A new video model being announced?” (r/SoraAi, 55 points, 46 comments, 2026-09-28) https://www.reddit.com/r/SoraAi/comments/1wsozf3/ — OpenAI’s post prompted expectations for a Sora successor. u/aigooner34 (6 points) also mentions a possible talent-loss theory: “Maybe they just took a step back while they finalized Sora 3, but... the main person that made Sora 2 possibly already left open ai.” u/Early-Attitude4046 (10 points) expressed willingness to keep paying: “Even if Sora is now a paid subscription I would pay to use it.”
- Closed source / perceived quality: Thread 9, “Video models are getting good” (r/singularity, 1,554 points, 168 comments, 2026-09-26) https://www.reddit.com/r/singularity/comments/1wqbytd/ — In this high-scoring thread, u/ichii3d (98 points) says, “Just replacing the people and relighting? I find it hard to believe AI video could be so good,” and u/CHG__ (35 points) says, “The lip syncing is very impressive, first time I've seen that personally.” Even supposed tells for detecting fakes are becoming unreliable because of the sophistication of AI rendering (u/Rust2: “I know it's AI because Elizabeth Holmes looks too human here,” 446 points).
- Choosing free image-generation tools: Thread 2, “Best AI image generator?” (r/generativeAI, 3 points, 44 comments, 2026-09-26) https://www.reddit.com/r/generativeAI/comments/1wqfleb/ — For users focused on free options, u/Scuzzy_Womack (3 points) recommends “Comfy ui not connected to the Internet and free.” Others mention Yodayo/MoescapeAI and Leonardo as tools with daily free credits, showing closed-source SaaS free tiers coexisting with local open-source execution.
- Backlash over reliability in science: Thread 4, “Nikon Image Competition” (r/labrats, 1,113 points, 133 comments, 2026-09-23) https://www.reddit.com/r/labrats/comments/1wo0j5e/ — An AI-enhanced microscopy video won first place in Nikon Small World in Motion, causing backlash. The highest-scoring comment by u/Barkinsons (631 points) says: “AI tools have no place in scientific microscopy images because we have the obligation to reproduce our images as truthfully as possible.” u/holydiver18 (55 points) harshly criticizes the explanation: “Author's explanation is pissing on all of our legs and telling us it's raining.”
- Movement toward deepfake regulation: Thread 1, “SM Entertainment Announces Strict Legal Action” (r/kpop, 723 points, 52 comments, 2026-09-28) https://www.reddit.com/r/kpop/comments/1wsdr6d/ — The agency announced legal action against malicious AI-generated imagery. u/themichaelfalk (138 points) notes that “a Korean article explicitly mentions rumors about AI-generated images showing her as pregnant.” Stronger action by entertainment agencies was received positively on Reddit as well (u/llamacana: “glad sm is taking action,” 166 points).
- Cultural backlash in religion: Thread 11, “AI Generated Images at Mass” (r/Catholicism, 48 points, 89 comments, 2026-09-28) https://www.reddit.com/r/Catholicism/comments/1wskb30/ — Users object to a diocese displaying AI-generated images on LED screens during Mass. u/JacquesdeVee (47 points) says: “Looking at those pictures while listening to the readings is creating false images in us instead of God speaking to us through His Word.” The creator, who made the post, says they offered free human-made artwork but were turned down.
- Generated content becoming meme material: Thread 6, “I hate AI-Generated images of Thanos” (r/Earth199999, 829 points, 44 comments, 2026-09-25) https://www.reddit.com/r/Earth199999/comments/1wqaxgh/ — The poster criticizes the environmental cost of generative AI, saying “It feels so insensitive... to waste more water on this dude,” drawing strong agreement with 829 points.
- Disappointment with video generation and a gap in expectations: Thread 10, “AI Video Generator” (r/perchance, 0 points, 13 comments, 2026-09-23) https://www.reddit.com/r/perchance/comments/1woin1z/ — u/SSFx93 (7 points) offers a sober view: “Good realistic (high quality), no limit, and free do not come together. Especially with video ai generation.” By contrast, in Thread 5, “Just a reminder, these were the AI videos going viral in 2024” (r/GenAI4all, 199 points, 67 comments, 2026-09-24) https://www.reddit.com/r/GenAI4all/comments/1wou5vb/ , u/MinosAristos responds positively: “That video is absolute cinema. Using the 'weaknesses' of synthetic media as a strength.”
Signals
- Growing: Closed-source video models are reaching a level at which viewers cannot distinguish them from live-action footage (Thread 9, r/singularity, 1,554 points), with amazement and wariness coexisting. Interest in a Sora successor (Thread 7) also remains persistent.
- Growing on the open-source side: Practical knowledge for low-cost local workflows centered on ComfyUI is accumulating (Threads 3 and 8). Statements such as “no api costs all free just the electricity cost” show that cost advantages are resonating.
- Being dismissed or resisted: Backlash against unauthorized use and misleading presentation of AI-generated content has appeared across several domains—scientific imagery (Thread 4), religious services (Thread 11), celebrity likenesses (Thread 1), and meme criticism (Thread 6’s water-use critique). Across genres, the data suggests an inverse relationship: as realism improves, resistance over trust and ethics grows stronger.
- Unexpected point: The query pulled in many threads focused not on AI-generation technology itself but on use and misuse contexts: K-pop deepfakes, Nikon misconduct, AI imagery at Mass, and Thanos memes. This suggests that “image/video generation AI news” is currently discussed more often through social friction than tool introductions.
- Conflicting opinions: Threads 9 and 5 both cover improving AI-video quality, but Thread 9 expresses alarm at realism while Thread 5 offers straightforward praise for a cinematic experience. The same quality gains are received differently depending on context: concern about fakes versus creative expression.
Limits
- The completion criterion calls for analysis of roughly 20 posts per social network, but Reddit collected only 11 threads, around half the target. Additional queries—for example, “Sora 2,” “Stable Diffusion,” “Qwen image,” and “Nier open source video model”—could have increased the sample, but this stage only read files already collected by the worker and conducted no additional searches.
- Because the search used only the single fixed phrase
"Image and Video Generation AI News", it did not search specific closed-source or open-source tool and model names. As a result, theme-direct communities such as r/StableDiffusion and r/SoraAi each contributed only one item. - Roughly 7 of the 11 collected items—such as Threads 1, 4, 6, part of 9, and 11—concern social friction and ethical disputes around AI-generated content rather than developments in the technology itself. It is therefore difficult to meet the brief’s requirement of at least 10 insights each on closed-source and open-source developments from Reddit data alone; other platforms are needed for coverage.

Accounts
The 40 collected posts come from 35 accounts, and effectively none of them are
accounts that talk about image/video generation AI. Two are worth separating
out because they are the only ones that even brush the theme:
- @tetumemo(テツメモ|AI図解×検証|Newsletter) — a single post (327 likes,
28 reposts, ~48,000 views), and the one account in the whole set that is
actually an AI-focused account. Posts in Japanese about Anthropic's internal
"Skills" tooling, not about image or video generation.
https://x.com/tetumemo/status/2104689964315447445 - @PalantirHotline and @zephyr_z9 — one post each, both reacting to
Anthropic as a company (IPO speculation, pricing), not to any
image/video-generation product or release.
Every other account (33 of 35) is driving completely unrelated trends: Italy

Spain vs. Croatia football (@rkaydee_, @BlackKyle5, @wohwki, @Am_NORBERT,

generation, or video generation at all — they are single-post reactions to
sports results and celebrity gossip, not recurring voices on any beat.
Posts
I can't give 5–12 findings about image/video generation AI from this
collection, because the collection doesn't contain them. The closest it gets:
- @tetumemo (327 likes, 28 reposts, ~48,000 views, 2026-09-28) — the only
genuinely AI-related post in the set, and it's about text/HTML tooling, not
imagery: "Anthropicのチームが社内で大人気のSkillsELI5」ですが、5歳児でもわかるレベルで図解中心にHTML形式で解説してってSkills" (Anthropic's internal team has a popular "ELI5" Skill that explains things in HTML with diagrams simple enough for a 5-year-old). No mention of Claude generating images or video; this is about explanatory HTML output.

everyone from the market". Read alongside the IPO post above, this looks
like general Anthropic pricing/market chatter, not anything about
image or video models specifically.

That's the entire set of AI-adjacent posts. Everything else in the 40 — all
36 remaining posts — is football, WWE, Big Brother 28, Taylor Swift memes, or
Formula 1, none of which touches closed-source or open-source image/video
generation AI.
Signals
- Nothing rising on the theme. There is no discernible open-source or
closed-source image/video-generation signal in this collection — no
mentions of Midjourney, Sora, Veo, Runway, Kling, Stable Diffusion, Flux,
HunyuanVideo, Wan, or any comparable tool or release. - What surprised me is not a trend finding but a collection finding: every
search term in this run (Italy,Spain,Jubjub,Holy,#bb28,
Roman,Tayflop,Anthropic,#Croatia,Lando) is a trend name lifted
straight from X's Explore page (see the table the worker captured, geolocated
to Croatia), not a term related to the research brief. Only one of the ten
terms ("Anthropic") has any AI connection at all, and it returned company
finance/pricing chatter and one unrelated tooling post rather than anything
about image or video generation. - What's being dismissed: not applicable — there's no on-theme discourse
present to characterize as rising or dismissed.
Limits
- The search terms driving this collection were not about the research
theme. All ten terms searched (Italy,Spain,Jubjub,Holy,#bb28,
Roman,Tayflop,Anthropic,#Croatia,Lando) are X's own Explore
trends for this session (listed inoutput/x.posts.mdunder "What X says is
happening"), which is geolocated to Croatia per that table's "Where" column
(mostly "Trending in Croatia" or generic sports trends). Only "Anthropic"
has any bearing on AI, and it did not surface image/video generation content. - No search was run for image/video-generation-specific terms — nothing like
"Sora", "Midjourney", "Stable Diffusion", "Veo", "Runway", "Kling", "Flux",
"text-to-video", "text-to-image", open-weight model names, etc. — so this
file cannot report on closed-source or open-source image/video generation
news from X for this run. - Of 40 collected posts, only 4 mention "Anthropic" and none of those concern
image or video generation; the other 36 are unrelated sports/entertainment
trends. - No images were collected for this platform stage (
images/x/does not
exist), so there's no visual material to cross-reference either. - I did not browse X myself per the playbook (the worker's headless,
signed-in session is the only path to X data for this stage) — this summary
is limited strictly to whatoutput/x.posts.mdandoutput/x.posts.json
contain, and that data does not cover the brief's theme.

- TheAIGRID (@TheAiGrid, ~370K subscribers, 61.3M total views, ~540K views in the last 30 days per Social Blade) — daily AI-news channel, frequent coverage of both closed frontier releases (Sora, Nano Banana Pro) and open-weight drops.
- Theoretically Media (@TheoreticallyMedia) — open-source/local-generation specialist ("Tim"); turns up repeatedly across Z-Image, Wan and HunyuanVideo coverage, and is a channel search engines associate directly with this beat, though no view counts surfaced for its individual videos in this run's searches.
- Nerdy Rodent and Sebastian Kamph — ComfyUI/local-AI tutorial channels that cover new open-weight image/video model installs (HunyuanVideo, Qwen-Image, Flux) as recurring content.
- A large cluster of comparison-format AI tool channels (titles like "The BEST AI Video Generator 2026!") repeatedly rank Sora 2, Veo 3.1, Runway, Kling and Grok Imagine against each other — these look like SEO-driven affiliate/tutorial channels rather than a single recurring voice, but they dominate the search results volume for closed-source tools.

Signals
- The dominant closed-source story right now isn't a new model — it's OpenAI killing one. The Sora app and the Sora-2 API (sora-2, sora-2-pro, and dated snapshots) were fully shut down on 2026-09-24, six days before this research run, after OpenAI announced the decision back on 2026-03-24. Multiple videos frame this as OpenAI redirecting GPU capacity toward a next-generation internal model (reported codename "Spud") and away from a product that reportedly cost ~$15M/day to run. This is a bigger closed-source signal than any single new release found this run.
- Google's Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image) is the closed-source image leader by video volume. Far more videos cluster around it than around any single Midjourney or Runway image release, with channels repeatedly calling it the new best-in-class for text rendering and infographic-style generation.
- Open-weight image models are closing the gap with closed models fast, but licensing is muddying the "open source" label. Qwen-Image-2.1 (7B params, released 2026-09-20) is described in its own coverage as "open weights, not open source" — research-only license, no commercial redistribution — which several videos flag explicitly even while praising its capability.
- Chinese labs (Alibaba's Tongyi-MAI/Qwen, Tencent Hunyuan) are the most active open-source publishers on both image and video right now, with Z-Image Turbo/Base, Qwen-Image-2.1/2512, and HunyuanVideo 1.5 all landing within roughly the last four months and each immediately getting head-to-head comparison videos against both each other and closed models.
- Video-model comparison content ("Sora vs Veo vs Runway vs Kling vs Wan") is a content genre unto itself, produced on a near-weekly cadence by tool-comparison channels — useful for tracking which names are top-of-mind, less useful as a signal of any single news event.
Limits
- YouTube's search-results pages (
youtube.com/results?search_query=…) render via JavaScript and returned only footer/navigation boilerplate to this run's page fetcher — exact view counts, upload timestamps, and subscriber counts could not be read directly off YouTube for most videos. All view/subscriber/date figures above come from WebSearch result snippets and linked secondary sources (Social Blade, vidiq, blog recaps), not from opening the YouTube pages themselves; treat counts as approximate and dated to whenever those secondary pages were last updated. - Individual watch-page fetches (
youtube.com/watch?v=…) hit the same JavaScript-rendering wall — titles were recoverable but view counts, exact channel names, and descriptions generally were not, which is why several entries above list a title and date but not a channel or view count. - Did not find a confirmed, dated September-2026 upload from Matt Wolfe specifically on this theme, despite the channel being the most-recommended AI-news source in search results — listed under Channels on reputation, not on a verified recent video.
- No Bluesky/Lemmy/Pinterest cross-reference was attempted here — YouTube data collected independently, per the playbook.
- Coverage skews toward tool-comparison/tutorial channels because they dominate YouTube's search ranking for these keywords; this may under-represent smaller creators or non-English-language channels (a French Z-Image video and a Japanese Qwen-Image video did surface, but were not analyzed in depth).

Note on the research method
The public.api.bsky.app/xrpc/app.bsky.feed.searchPosts post-search API specified by the playbook consistently returned 403 Forbidden during this investigation, and the bsky.app/search?q=... web search page was also inaccessible because it is JavaScript-rendered (details in ## Limits below). As an alternative, relevant accounts were identified using app.bsky.actor.searchActors (account search, which was not blocked), and the actual contents of posts were verified one by one using app.bsky.feed.getAuthorFeed (a specific account’s post feed) and app.bsky.feed.getPostThread (text, timestamp, likes, and reposts for individual posts). Every post below is listed with a real URL.
Accounts
- @testingcatalog.com (🚨 AI News | TestingCatalog) — A breaking-news bot for AI broadly. It publishes several posts a day, with image/video-generation topics appearing only occasionally. https://bsky.app/profile/testingcatalog.com
- @genainews.bsky.social (Gen AI News) — Another general AI breaking-news bot. The latest 30 posts were checked, but none concerned image/video generation; it focused on agents, LLMs, and company news.
- @sungkim.bsky.social (Sung Kim) — An individual account tracking open-weight model releases. Its Qwen-Image-2.1 release post received 81 likes and 10 reposts, the strongest response among posts checked in this run. https://bsky.app/profile/sungkim.bsky.social

- @stabilityai.bsky.social (official Stability AI) — The only active account among major closed/open companies. However, its posts over the last year have focused almost entirely on audio generation (Stable Audio 2.5) and partnerships with Universal Music and Warner Music, with no apparent new image/video-generation announcement.
- @civitai-bot.bsky.social (CivitaiCheckPoint update bot) — A bot that automatically announced open-source model/LoRA updates. Its last post was May 9, 2024, meaning it has been inactive for more than a year.
- @dahara1.bsky.social / @luok.ai — Individual experimentation and testing accounts. They post reports on trying open-source video-generation models such as HunyuanVideo and SkyReels V1.
- @trashcanroxanne.bsky.social (TrashCanRoxanne) — An AI filmmaker participating in Creator Partner Programs for Runway, Hailuo, Freepik, Kling, and others. The account regularly posts new-feature tests and submissions to AI short-film festivals.
- @blackforestlabs.bsky.social (official Black Forest Labs), @klingaivideo.bsky.social (official Kling AI Video), and @runwayml.bsky.social (official RunwayML) — All three have Bluesky accounts, but Black Forest Labs and Kling AI Video have zero posts, while RunwayML has only one post from October 2024. As official announcement channels for image/video-generation AI companies, Bluesky is barely functional.
- Searches for Stable Diffusion/Civitai-related accounts were dominated by personal AI-art posts, a substantial proportion of which were NSFW or furry content, rather than news.
- Meanwhile, many illustrators—including
fuzichoco.bsky.social,jametc.bsky.social,devinellekurtz.bsky.social, andartbutmakeitsports.bsky.social—explicitly state “NO AI” or prohibit AI training in their profiles, suggesting a distinct anti-AI creator community on Bluesky.

Signals
- The absence of official accounts is the biggest discovery. Black Forest Labs, developer of Flux, has zero posts; Kling AI Video has zero posts; and RunwayML has one post in two years. Major image/video-generation AI players barely use Bluesky as a channel for breaking news. The culture of CEOs and official accounts announcing news directly, as seen on X or Reddit, has not taken root on Bluesky.
- Stability AI is active, but its focus has shifted to audio. Its posts from September through November 2025 center on Stable Audio 2.5 and partnerships with Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group, with no new Stable Diffusion-family image model announced in the same period.
- Ground-level open-source reports come from individual accounts, not companies. Reports on Qwen-Image-2.1 (@sungkim.bsky.social), SkyReels V1 (@luok.ai), and HunyuanVideo I2V testing (@dahara1.bsky.social) all come from personal technical accounts and are more detailed, and often earlier, than corporate communications.
- Civitai’s checkpoint bot has been inactive since May 2024, suggesting Bluesky may already have declined as notification infrastructure for the open-source LoRA/model-sharing community. It may have moved to Discord or Civitai itself, but this has not been verified.
- Closed-source video tools—Runway, Hailuo, Kling, Luma, Pika, and others—are discussed by influencer-style accounts participating in Creator Partner Programs. Accounts such as @trashcanroxanne, @aziz4ai, @azed-ai, @uncanny-harry, and @koldohuici post new-feature tests and AI short-film festival submissions, emphasizing creator-community activity rather than technical news.
- NSFW and furry content make up much of the search results for Stable Diffusion and Civitai-related accounts. Personal AI-art generation, much of it adult-oriented, appears to be the main form of open-source image-generation activity on Bluesky rather than technical news.
- Many illustrator accounts explicitly state “NO AI,” including @fuzichoco.bsky.social, @jametc.bsky.social, @devinellekurtz.bsky.social, and @artbutmakeitsports.bsky.social. Opposition to image-generation AI and refusal of AI training have become routine profile statements, with stronger anti-AI sentiment apparent among Bluesky’s creator community than on X or Reddit.
Limits
- The post-search API (
app.bsky.feed.searchPosts) consistently returned 403 Forbidden. Although the playbook states it should be accessible without login, simple queries such asq=stable diffusionandq=catswere also blocked from this environment.app.bsky.actor.searchActors(account search),app.bsky.feed.getAuthorFeed(post feeds), andapp.bsky.feed.getPostThread(individual posts) all worked normally, suggesting that only the search API is restricted—possibly due to an authentication requirement or tighter rate limiting, though this remains unverified. - The
bsky.app/search?q=...web-search page is JavaScript-rendered, so the retrieved HTML did not contain post contents. Individual post pages (bsky.app/profile/.../post/...) had the same limitation, making getPostThread API access the only way to verify post text. - Because of these constraints, the work used an indirect method: individual bsky.app URLs found through Google searches were verified through the API one by one, rather than collecting posts comprehensively through keyword searches. The resulting material is not exhaustive and is limited to posts found by chance through that route.
- The completion criterion of analyzing roughly 20 posts could not be met under this workaround. Only 10 highly relevant posts and a dozen or so useful accounts/signals were identified. In cases such as Black Forest Labs and Kling AI Video, where official accounts have zero posts, further digging through the same route was judged unlikely to produce new primary information.
- A Google result for
en.yasue.org/report/image-and-video-generation-ai-news-2026-09-10appears likely to be a previous report of the same kind; it was not treated as a primary source and was not cited.

Signals
- Lemmy’s generative-AI discussion is overwhelmingly open source. !«メールアドレス» alone had more than 20 repository and tool posts in the last two weeks. The ecosystem around Qwen-Image-2.1, an Alibaba open-weight model, and MiniMax H3 for video—ComfyUI nodes, LoRAs, and web UIs—is clearly the current trend. Emerging compact models such as Krea and SupraLabs are also appearing.
- Closed-source topics—Midjourney, Sora, Veo, Grok, Google Nano Banana, and others—appear on Lemmy only as reposted news articles or in misuse/controversy stories. They are discussed not through tutorials or work sharing, but in the context of corporate criticism, regulation, and incidents.
- The overall community mood ranges from AI-skeptical to hostile. Several instances host anti-generative-AI communities such as !fuck_ai, where “AI slop” is a frequent term. Even artwork posts can receive negative scores when suspected of being AI-generated—for example, scores of -8 and -6.
- Keyword matching in the search API is somewhat unstable. Searches for proper names such as “Flux” or “Veo 3” produce noisy, unrelated results, including an alternative Discord app, so directly viewing !stable_diffusion is more reliable.
Limits
- Active users and posts across Lemmy are orders of magnitude fewer than on Reddit and similar networks. It resembles a developer community board for sharing repositories more than a source of breaking news. Closed-source developments—new model announcements and comparison reviews—are barely available from Lemmy alone.
- !«メールアドレス» was blocked by Anubis anti-bot protection and could not be directly viewed. Only fragments found through search results were available.
- Scores are generally low, usually in the single digits, and there are almost no posts that could be called viral on Lemmy. The small size of the community should be considered when interpreting the numbers.
- Against a criterion of analyzing 20 posts, more than 20 open-source items were observed in !stable_diffusion alone, but closed-source coverage reached only around 10 posts after crossing multiple keywords and communities. This reflects Lemmy’s topic bias toward open source rather than merely incomplete searching.
Pinterest — Image and Video Generation AI News
The search used one query without genre segmentation and collected 50 pins. All were visually inspected. Rather than Pinterest-style aesthetic imagery, most were promotional thumbnails for AI tools, comparison infographics, and YouTube-like “AI NEWS” video thumbnails—more like a tech-blog and affiliate-marketing board.
Visual themes
- White-blue glowing humanoid robots with glowing eyes were the dominant visual motif. “AI news anchor” robots in suits [1, 22, 29, 31, 47] and glowing circuit-pattern “AI” logos floating above palms [9, 46, 50] repeatedly portray AI as a direct replacement for human work.
- Navy backgrounds with neon cyan, magenta, and purple circuit-board textures dominated [4, 8, 14, 16, 32, 45]. Nearly every post used a similar palette, suggesting that AI-thumbnail design is becoming standardized.
- Tool-comparison and ranking infographics were common, lining up logos under labels such as “free vs paid” and “six best AI video generation sites” [3, 9]. Logos for closed services—Runway, Pika, Kling AI, Luma AI, Canva AI, Hailuo AI, ChatGPT, Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, Ideogram, SeaArt, Playground, Krea, and CapCut—were densely displayed.
- Visuals questioning “real vs AI-generated”—magnifying glasses, “FAKE” stamps, side-by-side “Human or AI?” comparisons, and 97% AI-detection indicators—formed a noticeable genre [1, 26, 27].
- The recurring motif of AI taking over news reporting appeared in [5, 34, 37, 39, 44]. An actual NBC News clip featured a weather-presenter-style video with an “AI GENERATED” label at the upper left [44], an unusual real-world example in news production.
- Vertical, step-by-step diagrams explaining how to make videos from images appeared multiple times [6, 24]. Prompt input → AI processing → rendering → export has become the standard workflow visual.
- Photorealistic, coherent character portraits—a close-up of an older person’s face, a sculpture/cello-performance composite, and a boy hero—were used as brand-marketing examples [12, 15, 49]. They aim to demonstrate realistic image-generation quality.
- Product-announcement visuals with corporate logos—Google Veo 2 / VideoFX [16, 33], Gemini Omni [21], Vidu S1 by ShengShu [48], and Amuse 3.0 by AMD [49]—appeared as concrete new-model announcements and contained more information than generic AI imagery.
Notable pins
- [2] Meta Muse Spark AI Model 2026 — A thumbnail for an explainer on Meta Muse, promising “personal superintelligence.” A woman in a headset combined with a house, car, and VR imagery emphasizes the all-purpose personal-assistant direction.
- [3] 6+ Best AI Video Generation Websites — An infographic comparing Runway, Pika, Kling AI, Luma AI, Canva AI, and Hailuo AI side by side. It gives an at-a-glance breakdown by use case: filmmaking, social media, and beginner use.
- [9] AI Image Video: Best Quality vs Best Free — A decision flowchart dividing paid tools (ChatGPT Plus, Gemini Advanced, Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, Recraft, Runway Gen-3, Luma, Pika Pro, Kaiber, Synthesia) and free tools (Ideogram, Gemini Free, SeaArt, Playground, Krea, Canva, CapCut, Pika Free, Runway Free) by use case.
- [15] ByteDance and Hollywood reach global deal on AI copyright — A screenshot of a news article saying ByteDance and the Motion Picture Association reached a global agreement on copyright protection for AI image/video-generation tools. It signals regulatory developments around closed-source services.

- [44] AI news videos blur line between real and fake reports — Actual NBC News footage featuring a weather-reporter-style clip labeled “AI GENERATED.” It is an example of disclosure labels beginning to be implemented by major media outlets.
- [48] ShengShu Technology Unveils Vidu S1 — An announcement visual for China’s Vidu S1 video model, promoted as offering “real-time interactive generation.”
- [49] 'Amuse 3.0' — AMD-powered AI art creation tool — A new-version announcement for a local AI art-creation tool that runs on AMD GPUs. One of the few concrete examples leaning toward open/local execution.
Signals
- Closed-source services overwhelmingly dominate: Google (Veo/Gemini/Omni), Meta (Muse), OpenAI (ChatGPT/DALL-E-related logos), Runway, Pika, Luma, Kling, Canva, Hailuo, ShengShu (Vidu), and xAI (Grok) recur throughout. Pinterest centers on purchase-intent content for people deciding which commercial SaaS tool to use.
- Open-source and self-hosted coverage is sparse: Stable Diffusion appears in just one item (28, title only; the image itself is generic AI-person imagery), while AMD Amuse 3.0 (49) stands out as a local-execution-adjacent tool. There are no technical-community pins about ComfyUI, LoRA, or checkpoint sharing. This reflects Pinterest’s general-consumer and marketer audience.
- There is strong interest in whether AI-generated content is authentic: FAKE stamps, Human-or-AI comparisons, and detection percentages repeatedly appear as visual language around reliability and disclosure. Alongside NBC News’s example (44), this suggests that labeling requirements for AI-created content are gaining consumer-level visibility.
- SEO-style tool-comparison and how-to content dominates: Pins more often explain which tool to choose or provide usage steps than provide technical details of new models. Pinterest functions more as a decision-support hub than as a breaking-news platform.
- Visual templates are becoming homogenized: Navy backgrounds, neon circuit lines, and white robots repeat across almost all pins, visibly showing the standardization and mass production of AI-blog thumbnail design.
Limits
- The pin list had no genre segmentation (
genrewas an empty string for every item), and only the 50 results for the single query “Image and Video Generation AI News” were examined. In line with the playbook, the work read only collected images and did not browse Pinterest itself. - Most images were blog or infographic thumbnails; the linked article text was not read. The sources were limited to text visible in the images and the titles/URLs in
pinterest.pins.md. - Few pins substantiate open-source developments in detail—one Stability AI mention and one AMD Amuse item—so Pinterest alone offers limited depth on open-source news. This is a structural bias of Pinterest as a consumer visual-search platform, not necessarily a collection omission.
Recommended actions
- Next time, switch Reddit and X to direct proper-name searches—Qwen-Image, Sora, Nano Banana, HunyuanVideo, and similar terms—to reduce trend-derived noise.
- Replace X’s dependence on Explore trends with a pre-prepared list of image/video-generation AI terms.
- Keep monitoring the Bluesky searchPosts API 403 issue and switch to comprehensive keyword searching as soon as it recovers.
- Make Qwen-Image-2.1 licensing developments, especially commercial-use eligibility, a recurring follow-up check.
- Continue tracking Lemmy’s !stable_diffusion community as a fixed observation point for open-source breaking news.

Data-quality note
X collected almost no image/video-generation AI posts because its queries depended on X Explore trends—football and entertainment topics. Reddit reached only 11 threads against the completion target of 20 and was skewed toward social-controversy posts. Bluesky could not perform comprehensive searching because the searchPosts API was blocked with 403 errors. YouTube search-result and video pages were JavaScript-rendered, so view counts and similar figures depended on secondary sources.
