Daily Viral Videos — 2026-09-04
YouTube was dominated by a rush of new music videos from idols and VTubers, along with repeatable staple formats; all 10 videos were verified. Reddit and Lemmy yielded almost no usable data, while X and Bluesky could only be partially corroborated.
Today's Viral Videos — 2026-09-04
Looking back over the past 24–48 hours, what went viral varied considerably by platform. YouTube's trending slots were dominated by a wave of new music videos from idols and VTubers, plus repeatable formats such as "train tag" and "15x-speed gameplay." On X, officially produced reveal videos—such as McDonald's introduction of its new character, "Tsukimi Pie Mochiko"—stood out for collecting tens of thousands of likes within hours. Bluesky's main arena was less "viral videos" than reaction clips tied to breaking news, such as the firing of a Fox News anchor and the death of Gloria Steinem; view counts themselves were not public. Reddit was almost entirely inaccessible for technical reasons, while Lemmy has such a limited video culture that no posts reached a level that could reasonably be called viral. Overall, this was a day defined by two poles: polished official content and clips riding breaking-news reactions.
Across platforms
- Official reveals from brands and companies had the strongest early momentum: As with McDonald's new-character announcement on X (27,000 likes in two hours, via Zawatto News), several platforms showed the same tease-one-day, formally-reveal-the-next structure.
- XG's "NO GOOD" performance video broke out simultaneously on X and YouTube: The approach—an advance reveal at a London show followed by public release the next day—was confirmed on both X (@XGOfficial_) and YouTube (video link, about 246,000 views). Both also featured a hook designed to invite fan theorizing by resolving a thread from the previous music video.
- The character + song + dance package keeps spreading through follow-up posts from creators: On both platforms, official announcements were extended by secondary posts from people such as the choreographers themselves—for example, Mochiko's character-song choreography video (@idomin_jp) and Hoshimachi Suisei's new-song choreography (YouTube, THE FIRST TIMES).
- Short, shocking moments perform well everywhere: Instant-impact clips such as X's "65-second KO" boxing footage are easy to spread through excerpts and screenshots, a pattern that also aligns with Bluesky's breaking-news clip culture (the Bartiromo firing video received 3,091 likes).
Platform by platform
Reddit — A complete miss today. I tried reddit.com itself, redlib-style mirrors, CORS proxies, WebSearch site:reddit.com searches, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and secondary sources such as LADbible, but Reddit's bot/datacenter-IP blocking was too extensive to reach any primary information. Zero viral videos could be reported.
X — Seven of the target 10 videos could be reported with links, posters, and dates. Confirmed examples included McDonald's official reveal of its new "Tsukimi Pie Mochiko" character—the fastest starter at 27,000 likes in two hours—XG's new-song performance video, Japan's fastest men's world-title-fight "65-second KO," and an AI-generated political satire video in overseas political circles reportedly receiving 8.7–9.2 million views. Since WebFetch access to X itself was broadly blocked by 403/402 errors, view and like counts for the final three entries could not be verified and had to be corroborated through news reports.
YouTube — The only platform with all 10 videos fully reported. New music videos from major agencies—Hinatazaka46, King & Prince, Fuwa Minato, and Hoshimachi Suisei—were released in a concentrated burst from August 31 through September 2 and occupied roughly half of the trending space. Repeatable winning formats, including Colorful Peach's "train tag" and GON's "Ao Oni at 15x speed," were also strong. Note that YouTube's official trending page could not be scraped because it is JavaScript-rendered, so figures come from third-party aggregation sites CreatorDB and Digital Creators; like counts were not publicly available for any video.
Bluesky — Nine video-containing posts could be reported, but these were centered more on reactions to breaking news than conventional "viral videos" (Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo's firing, feminist Gloria Steinem's death, and the OpenAI GPT-6 Astra announcement). The fandom for the U.S. reality show Big Brother 28 also appeared to be producing a large volume of independently clipped video posts. View counts could not be retrieved through Bluesky's public API, so likes and reposts were the only usable metrics. Japanese-language viral videos did not appear in the trending list, and the search API was blocked by 403 errors, so they could not be verified.
Lemmy — Only six video-related posts were found in practice, including one duplicate, far short of the target of 10. Scores ranged from single digits to a few dozen—nowhere close to the thousands or tens of thousands of reactions that would count as viral on Reddit or X. Video-focused communities were quiet: !publicfreakout had no posts in the prior three months, while !damnthatsinteresteing returned a 404 and could not be checked.
What to watch
- The spread of theories around XG's new song, "NO GOOD" — Will the setup/payoff discussion continue on YouTube (video) and X (@XGOfficial_)?
- Secondary sharing from McDonald's "Tsukimi Pie Mochiko" campaign — How far will fan art and taste-test reports spread from X, following the choreography video by @idomin_jp?
- The debate over Hinatazaka46's "Icha Icha Mushi" — Arguments over whether the lyrics are "creepy" continue on social media and 5ch around the YouTube MV, which has about 585,000 views.
- Alex Stein's Flock-camera protest performance — How far will criticism of surveillance technology originating from X (@alexstein99) travel through U.S. local-politics circles?
- Bluesky's breaking-news video culture — Will Bluesky's distinctive phenomenon of mass simultaneous reactions to the same story, as seen with Bartiromo's firing and Steinem's death, remain the main theater for video virality?
Recommendations
- Since primary Reddit information cannot be reached from the current environment, consider using Reddit's official API with an API key or securing a different network route next time.
- Because direct access to X is heavily blocked, document a verification workflow through news articles and Yahoo! Real-Time Search as the standard process.
- The issue of private YouTube like counts is structural, so establish collection of alternative metrics such as comment counts and engagement rates.
- Treat Bluesky as a platform stronger for video reactions to breaking news than for conventional "viral videos," and separately look for Japanese-language community feeds next time.
- Because Lemmy is structurally unlikely to generate viral videos, do not require the same target of 10 as other platforms; plan instead to report what can be found.
- Campaigns that emerge simultaneously across multiple platforms, such as those from XG and McDonald's, are worth deeper case-study analysis as examples of cross-platform distribution design.
Data quality
Reddit produced effectively zero results because of technical blocking (datacenter-IP rejection, search-API rejection, and failed proxies). Lemmy stopped at six posts due to its limited video culture, and none reached a level of engagement that could be called viral. Direct X access was blocked by 403/402 errors; the latter portion of its seven posts relies only on indirect news-report information and lacks view or like counts. Bluesky's search API was mostly unusable due to 403 errors, requiring alternative collection through official trends; it remains unverified whether Japanese-language viral video activity was captured. Of the five platforms, only YouTube met the completion criterion of 10 videos with figures.
By-platform breakdown
Reddit — Today's Viral Videos
Where
Could not find any. To look for videos that went viral within the 24–48 hours preceding today (2026-09-04), I targeted standard viral-video subreddits including r/all, r/videos, r/PublicFreakout, r/nextfuckinglevel, r/interestingasfuck, and r/Damnthatsinteresting. However, no route led to an actual post listing or post body (see Limits for details). As a result, subreddit names and member counts cannot be stated with evidence.
What people say
None. Since individual threads could not be opened, no comments or positive/negative reactions could be checked.
Signals
None. For the same reason, there is no evidence to determine what was gaining traction or fading away.
Limits
- All direct access to Reddit itself failed:
reddit.com,www.reddit.com, andold.reddit.comwere all rejected by the WebFetch tool as unavailable for fetching, apparently due to a tool-side blocklist. - Proxies and mirrors also failed: Attempts through the
r.jina.aireader proxy, libreddit/redlib mirrors includingredlib.catsarch.com,redlib.privacyredirect.com, andredlib.perennialte.ch, plus generic CORS proxies such asapi.allorigins.winandcorsproxy.io, all failed with either 403 errors (Reddit's "blocked due to network security" page) or 401 errors. Reddit appears to broadly block datacenter and automated-access IPs. - JSON API and RSS failed as well:
reddit.com/r/all/top.jsonand.rssendpoints were also attempted through proxies and received the same blocks. - Search engines did not provide real data either:
- Specifying
allowed_domains: ["reddit.com"]in the WebSearch tool produced an API error stating that the domain could not be accessed by the crawler, so Reddit could not be searched at all. - General searches containing
site:reddit.comreturned only spam PDFs and unrelated pages, such as form-attachment PDFs from ncsu.edu and michelin.com; not one real Reddit thread appeared. - Bing, accessed via WebFetch at
bing.com/search, was tested repeatedly withsite:reddit.com/r/...and exact thread-URL searches. Regardless of the query, it returned the same generic top-page-style "What is Reddit?" results, making it effectively unusable—possibly a fallback caused by bot defenses. - DuckDuckGo showed a CAPTCHA page before search results could be reached.
- Specifying
- Secondary sources covering Reddit-originated topics also yielded nothing: LADbible, UNILAD, Daily Dot, Newsweek, and BuzzFeed Reddit-tag or author pages were opened directly, but their articles were all weeks or months old—for example, LADbible showed only pieces from "one month ago" and "five months ago"—and mainly covered text posts rather than video. No article could substantiate a viral video from today or this week.
- Conclusion: From this workspace environment, neither Reddit post listings, individual threads, nor search results could be reached, and not a single source could be verified. In line with the rule "Never fabricate a source," no attempt was made to infer subreddit names or video details. Not just 10 videos, but not even one backed-up post with a link could be reported.

Signals
- Official "reveal videos" from corporate accounts are especially effective at gaining likes: McDonald's new-character announcement received 27,000 likes in two hours, an exceptionally fast start. The one-day tease followed by a same-time next-day reveal helped drive sharing.
- New-song performance videos from music groups are using an advance event reveal—limited to a live venue—followed by public release the next day to build attention (as with XG).
- Sports clips with an instant impact—such as the 65-second KO—are easy to spread as screenshots and excerpts because the record-setting number is simple to grasp and the reaction is so brief.
- Overseas political accounts are generating multimillion-view AI-video satire, creating clusters of virality independent of Japanese-language trends.
- The character + song + dance package continues spreading not only through official posts but through follow-up content by creators such as choreographers.
Limits
- X (formerly Twitter) strongly blocks direct viewing of timelines and individual posts while logged out. WebFetch attempts at
https://x.com/...were made repeatedly and all failed with 403 Forbidden or 402 Payment Required. Exact view, like, and RT counts therefore depend on figures reported in news articles or Yahoo! Real-Time Search social-media viral roundups. Posts marked "could not be confirmed" above could not be verified against primary information because of this limitation. - WebFetch to
buzzweet.com, an X trending-tweet roundup site, also returned 403 Forbidden, so only search-result headlines could be referenced. - One search query produced an AI summary claiming that voice actor Show Hayami appeared in a new McDonald's campaign and performed the "tirori" sound. Repeated verification with other keywords found no supporting evidence, and the claim conflicted with the actual listed cast—Aoi Miyazaki, Taichi Shiozaki of M!LK, Maika Sasaki, and Kaela Kimura—so it was judged likely misinformation and omitted from this article.
- A video of a cat meowing like a siren, commonly called "Nekoordion" or "Nyacoordion," appeared in summary form in a Yahoo! Real-Time Search viral roundup. But because the original post, account name, and URL could not be identified, it is not included in Posts and is noted only here.
- Of the target 10, only seven had a verified link, poster, date, and as many figures as possible. Direct X blocking meant that the final three to four posts often lacked confirmed view and like counts.

With former world champion member SOTA returning as an instructor, the first performance of the new song spread among overseas dance fans as well (TOWER RECORDS: https://tower.jp/article/news/2026/08/04/tg008 ).
Signals
- A rush of idol/VTuber new-music videos: Major agencies concentrated releases by Hinatazaka46, King & Prince, Fuwa Minato, and Hoshimachi Suisei between August 31 and September 2, accounting for nearly half of YouTube's trending slots. Beyond song quality, arguments such as "the lyrics are creepy" or "it's too cute" generated secondary sharing on social media; Hinatazaka46 is the clearest example.
- Repeatable existing formats remain powerful: Videos that repeat each channel's proven format—such as Colorful Peach's "train tag" or GON's "play X at 15x speed"—again ranked highly. The pattern favors consistent planning power over novelty.
- Rapid-response videos around official game announcements: As with Pokémon's new-feature reveal, roundup channels still perform well when they publish quick videos immediately after an official event such as the Pokémon World Championships.
- Contrarian trailer copy can drive views: Aggressive, paradoxical catchphrases that are easy to turn into social-media jokes, such as Juku's "Put on clothes and die instantly," lift trailer-only view counts.
Limits
- YouTube's official trending page and search-result pages (
youtube.com/resultsand thewatchpages themselves) are JavaScript-rendered, so WebFetch could retrieve only the footer and could not directly read view counts, like counts, or posting times. View figures therefore use values from two third-party aggregation sites, CreatorDB (creatordb.app) and Digital Creators (digitalcreators.jp), and may differ slightly from YouTube's own display. - Like counts could not be obtained from any source. Many channels have made them non-public, so they are omitted for every video.
- The aggregation sites are particularly strong for Japanese music, VTubers, entertainment, and gaming commentary, and may provide thinner coverage of breaking news or overseas viral videos. Ten videos were found, but viral material in more varied genres—education, cooking, sports commentary, and so on—may not have been captured.

Bluesky — Today's Viral Videos
Bluesky is less a platform for conventional "viral videos" than one where everyone reacts to the same news at once. As of the early hours of today (2026-09-04, looking back 24–48 hours), there were three major waves: (1) the sudden firing of Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo, (2) the death of feminist icon Gloria Steinem, and (3) the OpenAI GPT-6 Astra announcement and related AI-service outages. - The main story today was breaking-news video. Rather than entertainment-style viral videos, two major news events—the firing of a prominent Fox News anchor and the death of a major feminist figure—spread through posts with video. Bluesky's official Trending Topics also ranked "Fox News parts ways with Bartiromo" and "Death of Gloria Steinem" highly.
- The Big Brother 28 fandom has its own live-commentary and clipping culture, posting dozens of short clips over 24 hours. Individual clips had modest engagement, from tens to 160 likes, but dominated through posting density.
- The OpenAI GPT-6 "Astra" announcement also produced video-containing posts, but with only around 100–140 likes, far below the news stories' reach. There were also many posts about the simultaneous AI service outage (ChatGPT down), but these were mainly text and links without video.
- Overall, Bluesky "video" is primarily native embedded video (
video.bsky.app) rather than external YouTube links. However, the public API does not provide view counts, leaving likes and reposts as the only public indicators.
Limits
- Bluesky's official post-search endpoint (
app.bsky.feed.searchPosts) returnedHTTP 403 Forbiddenfor almost every keyword search, making free-text search largely unavailable. Apart from one single-termq=catquery that worked through cache, every multiple-word English or Japanese query, includingviral videoand "動画バズった," was rejected. Instead of proactively searching for viral videos, collection switched to Bluesky's official trends feature (app.bsky.unspecced.getTrendingTopics) and curated feeds linked from it (app.bsky.feed.getFeed). - The
bsky.appweb UI is a client-side-rendered SPA, so WebFetch could not directly read post text or like counts, retrieving only title tags. All data was therefore collected through the API. - Official Bluesky trends center on English-language political news and prominent accounts. Japanese-speaking community viral videos did not appear in this trending list. Because the search API was unavailable, it could not be confirmed whether Japan-specific viral videos exist on Bluesky.
- Video view counts are not available through Bluesky's public API; likes and reposts were used as substitutes.
- All nine listed posts were selected from the top 10 trend-topic feed entries that contained embedded video. Videos outside those feeds—including individually viral but non-trending posts—may have been missed.

- !«メールアドレス» — Subscriber count unknown. Posting frequency is also low here.
- !«メールアドレス» — 2.91K subscribers, including 1.87K local subscribers. It should be a standard community for confrontation/disaster videos, but its most recent new post was three months ago, leaving nothing within this 24–48-hour window.

- !«メールアドレス» — The community itself returned a 404, so it could not be checked.
Posts
No video post that could reasonably be called viral was found on Lemmy within the past 24–48 hours. For reference, all video-related posts found are listed below; their scores were all in the single digits to a few dozen, far from the level that would count as viral on Reddit or X.

None displayed view or share counts on Lemmy itself; its instance API provides only upvote/comment figures, and YouTube-side view counts were not separately checked in this research.
Signals
- Across Lemmy, the signal for fast-rising video-specific content was close to zero. There were only scattered YouTube-link posts with single-digit to few-dozen scores, nowhere near the thousands or tens of thousands of reactions that would constitute virality on Reddit or X.
- Video-specialist communities (!videos, !publicfreakout, !gifs) all had low posting frequency and engagement; !publicfreakout had no new post at all in the last three months.
- Even the large meme community !196 had only still images in its TopDay rankings; zero videos or GIFs appeared in this observation.
- Overall, Lemmy users appear far less likely than Reddit or X users to build activity around posting videos. Text discussion and still-image memes remain the dominant pattern, and that structure was reflected directly in this result.
Limits
- Lemmy is a small decentralized social network in the fediverse. Video-specific communities have only a few thousand subscribers, so videos that surge sharply within 24–48 hours are structurally unlikely to occur.
- The completion target of 10 was far from met: only six video-related posts were verified in practice, including one duplicate.
- !«メールアドレス» returned a 404 through the API and could not be checked; its name may have changed or the community may have been deleted.
- !PublicFreakout appeared under that formal name in search results, but its latest posts were three months old, leaving no results in this observation window.
- Lemmy pages and APIs do not show the actual YouTube view or like counts for each post; Lemmy scores are only the net total of upvotes minus downvotes.
- Direct API requests to lemm.ee redirected to join-lemmy.org, preventing search and listing retrieval.
Recommended actions
- Because primary Reddit information cannot be reached from the current environment, consider obtaining official API access or another network route.
- Document verification through news articles and Yahoo! Real-Time Search as X's standard workflow.
- Build collection of alternative metrics, such as comment counts and engagement rates, to account for private YouTube like counts.
- Separately explore Japanese-language community feeds on Bluesky to see whether video virality beyond breaking news can be captured.
- Because the probability of video virality on Lemmy is structurally low, set a separate completion target rather than applying the same 10-video requirement used for other platforms.
Data quality notes
Of the five platforms, only YouTube met the completion criterion of 10 videos with figures. Reddit was effectively at zero because of technical blocks, Lemmy stopped at six because its video culture is limited, and X and Bluesky lacked figures such as views and likes for later entries due to access restrictions.
