KEN’S CAT LOG

Daily Viral Video — 2026-09-06

Rather than one video shared across all five social platforms, today’s best-supported viral hits were YouTube’s K-pop solo MV showdown and Bluesky’s soothing videos. Reddit, X, and Lemmy were dominated by politically or controversy-driven sharing, but provided little confirmation of direct video links or view counts.

Today’s Viral Video Roundup — 2026-09-06

Bottom line: today was not a day when everyone was excited about one shared video. Completely different kinds of videos were taking off on each platform. On YouTube, LISA and JISOO’s solo MVs are in a genuine numbers battle, while Bluesky is quietly strong for satisfying content such as book restoration and natural phenomena. Ironically, on X (formerly Twitter), one-line comments about videos were more viral than the videos themselves. Reddit and Lemmy stood out for clips tied to Indian and U.S. politics. There was no single video that could be called “today’s video” across all five platforms; this was a clear illustration of how platform cultures differ.

Across platforms

  • Politics and controversy are driving video sharing on both Reddit and Lemmy. Reddit’s top posts included four political clips from India-focused subreddits (r/20sIndiaReal, r/IndianFocus), while Trump-related footage was Lemmy’s largest category (the “nodding off” controversy, the “wearable toilet” clip). In both cases, the growth seems driven less by the entertainment value of the video than by the fact that it angered or provoked someone.
  • Comments about videos outperforming the videos themselves is a pattern shared by X and Reddit. X’s top five posts (including @lydiahallie and @ArchiveLeafy) were all text-only posts without attached videos. Likewise, in Reddit’s video-essay debate (r/arcane), the top-voted response was not about the content but simply, “I hate the font.” Only the most visible layer of video commentary and criticism is easy to see.
  • Secondary distribution—videos that already went viral elsewhere later becoming articles or reposts—appeared on both Lemmy and YouTube. Lemmy’s Stella Lefty controversy and the story of a man cleaning a NYC street both originated on TikTok, while YouTube’s wakatte.tv controversy was primarily fueled by clipped excerpts spreading on X. The origin point of a video’s virality and the place where it is reported are increasingly diverging.
  • Japanese-language content had limited visibility. Of the five platforms, the only clearly identified Japanese-original viral video was a Bluesky Puyo Puyo gameplay post (post). Reddit was overwhelmingly English-language, Lemmy had none, and X only saw Japanese AI communities piggyback on Croatian trends. The one area where Japanese-language content was strong was YouTube’s K-pop, anime, and controversy coverage (discussed below).

Platform by platform

Reddit — Of the 12 threads returned by the search terms, few could truly be called direct reports of “videos that went viral today.” The clearest case was a documentary by YouTuber channel “Reckless Ben” exposing powerful figures, which reportedly became super-viral in a few days (759pt). Beyond that were four Indian political clips and nostalgia debates about how old YouTube was better. Direct video links and view counts were almost never available, so Reddit could surface viral topics but not the specifications of viral videos.

X — The worker searched Explore trend terms (Astra, Bitcoin, Ukrainian, and others), rather than searching specifically for “viral video,” and that limitation had a major impact. Explore was also Croatia-based, and none of the 40 collected posts had an attached video; all were treated as image posts. The top post by views was @lydiahallie (around 1.6 million views), but it was an announcement aimed at AI developers, not a video. The one useful finding was that Japanese accounts were actively posting demonstrations and comparisons of video-generation AI such as GPT-6 Astra and Fable 5.1 (including @onofumi_AI).

YouTube — The platform with the strongest numerical evidence this time. LISA’s solo MV “SaWaDiKa” reached 70.8 million views in 24 hours, setting a 2026 first-day music-video record, while JISOO’s “CLICK” reached 8 million views in 12 hours, reportedly the fastest record for a Korean solo artist MV. BLACKPINK members’ solo releases were competing simultaneously. Trailers were also strong: the Avengers Endgame: Encore trailer reached 77 million views in 24 hours, the most for a re-release trailer. In Japanese-language coverage, Toei’s new Dragon Ball Super trailer and wakatte.tv’s Fukushima University controversy video stood out; the latter continued to attract attention even after the original was made private. Concrete figures were verified for seven of ten items, though the set was skewed toward music MVs, film trailers, and controversy rather than TikTok-style short-form hits.

Bluesky — Nine video posts were collected by filtering the “What’s Hot” feed for video. Rather than politically angry content, soothing, craftsmanship, and trivia-focused posts performed well. The top post was a book restoration video by a craftsperson (7,726 likes). A ProPublica investigative-reporting video (5,152 likes) clearly outperformed the corresponding text post (1,752 likes), offering a useful data point for the effectiveness of cutting reporting into video. However, Bluesky’s official video-trend feed, “Video,” consistently returned 502 errors, so this should not be treated as an official ranking.

Lemmy — Small in scale: even focusing on «メールアドレス» yielded only six substantive items. Trump-related viral-footage stories were the biggest group, followed by incident and mishap content such as an arrest after refusing to pay a restaurant bill and a near miss at a road race. Scores and comment counts were also far smaller than on other platforms, topping out at around 100; it did not approach Reddit-scale virality.

What to watch

  • LISA’s “SaWaDiKa” record-setting pace — YouTube, 70.8 million views in 24 hours. The key question is how far it can extend its lead over BTS’s “SWIM.”
  • The numbers battle with JISOO’s “CLICK” — YouTube, 8 million views in 12 hours. More launch-comparison coverage of LISA versus JISOO is likely.
  • Where the wakatte.tv Fukushima University backlash lands — YouTube, Yahoo! News article. The video is private, but distribution continues through celebrity commentary.
  • More demonstrations of video-generation AI (GPT-6 Astra / Fable 5.1) — X, @renoiseai. Watch for an inversion in which “how to make viral videos” becomes more viral than the videos themselves.
  • Recovery of Bluesky’s official “Video” trend feed — It returned 502 errors throughout this round, so it will be worth checking the official ranking again once restored.
  • Further developments in Stella Lefty’s “Boston” controversy — Via Lemmy, Washington Post article. Depending on how the sampling allegations are resolved, the TikTok-originated trend may either intensify or fade.

Recommendations

  • Next time, search X directly for “viral video” and “バズ動画,” rather than relying on Explore trend terms, or use a filter limited to posts with video media.
  • Re-fetch Bluesky’s official “Video” trend feed (thevids) when its 502 errors are resolved, and compare it with the alternative Discover-feed aggregation.
  • For Reddit research, search Japanese-language subreddits such as r/newsokur and Japanese terms more directly to reduce the overrepresentation of English-language Indian political topics.
  • For YouTube, prepare an API-based method that avoids JavaScript rendering on the official trending page and can capture short-form videos (Shorts).
  • Track the politically and controversy-driven sharing seen on Lemmy and X separately from the spread of straightforward entertainment videos, so the next Signals section does not conflate the two.
  • Continue monitoring the K-pop solo MV contest between LISA and JISOO, as the numbers are still moving.

Data quality

Reddit, X, and Lemmy did not reach the completion target of ten videos and were relatively thin in substance. Of Reddit’s 12 threads, only a small number included direct video links or reports with view counts, and the collection period was spread more broadly than the specified 24–48 hours. X had a structural limitation: the worker’s search design used assorted trend terms rather than “viral video,” leaving virtually no posts that could be confirmed as video. Lemmy stopped at six substantive items due to its smaller scale. By contrast, YouTube (seven of ten) and Bluesky (nine of ten) collected relatively solid sets with concrete figures and links. However, YouTube relied on secondary sources such as kworb.net and news reports because the official trending page was blocked by JavaScript rendering, while Bluesky’s official video-trend feed remained inaccessible. Overall, YouTube and Bluesky are the core data sources for this edition in terms of quality; Reddit, X, and Lemmy are supplementary reference material.

Platform-by-platform summary

Reddit

Reddit — Daily Viral Video

I reviewed the 12 threads collected by the worker—one each from 12 subreddits—and summarized what Reddit was saying about “viral videos.” The search terms were “went viral” / “viral video” / “viral clip” / “バズってる動画” / “話題の動画”.

Where
  • r/Feminism (358,796 members) — 1 thread. A report about a cult-exposé documentary spreading widely.
  • r/20sIndiaReal (8,202 members) — 1 thread. Reactions to a politically charged video spreading on Instagram.
  • r/IndianFocus (60,862 members) — 1 thread. A debate over the authenticity of a podcast clip.
  • r/youtube (3,453,145 members) — 1 thread. A nostalgia post along the lines of “old YouTube was better.”
  • r/AskReddit (59,546,548 members) — 1 thread. A general thread about videos people can watch for hours, only loosely related to virality.
  • r/content_marketing (201,586 members) — 1 thread. A thread asking how to go viral.
  • r/TeenIndia (537,767 members) — 1 thread. A video of a house that remained standing during flooding in Nepal.
  • r/BackonFigg (23,718 members) — 1 thread. Gossip-like exchanges between influencers.
  • r/whatdoIdo (447,501 members) — 1 thread. Advice about a boyfriend’s watch history, not a viral video itself.
  • r/arcane (497,994 members) — 1 thread. Mixed reactions to a video essay discussing Arcane.
  • r/TwentiesIndia (322,722 members) — 1 thread. A complaint about feeling discouraged whenever one’s own posts go viral.
  • r/BoredPandaHQ (33,871 members) — 1 thread. A video of a Japanese woman escalating into a debate about beauty standards.

There was one thread per each of 12 subreddits, with no duplicates. India-focused communities (r/20sIndiaReal, r/IndianFocus, r/TeenIndia, and r/TwentiesIndia) accounted for four of the twelve, meaning Reddit’s “viral” discussion that day was skewed toward Indian political and social topics.

What people say
  • Thread 1 (r/Feminism, 759pt, 2026-09-02, https://www.reddit.com/r/Feminism/comments/1w5hjb9/) — A documentary from the channel “Reckless Ben” exposing a cult and sexual crimes involving powerful people became “super viral” in a few days. u/Any_Function4654 (329pt): “It’s absurd that human trafficking is this widespread, and that YouTubers—not authorities—are investigating it.” Meanwhile, u/panaceaXgrace (56pt) questioned why a serious subject was presented with clown makeup, reflecting discomfort with the approach.
  • Thread 2 (r/20sIndiaReal, 709pt, 332 comments, 2026-09-05, https://www.reddit.com/r/20sIndiaReal/comments/1w7tzsn/) — A post about an Instagram video that allegedly provoked so-called “Andhbhakt” (blind supporters). Its 332 comments were the most among the twelve threads. u/PookieHoneyBee (35pt): “The influencer never named anyone, but the ‘Andhbhakt’ side recognized themselves and started making noise.”
  • Thread 3 (r/IndianFocus, 510pt, 165 comments, 2026-09-04, https://www.reddit.com/r/IndianFocus/comments/1w6wqmm/) — Politician Swantantra Bharadwaj denied assault allegations and called the viral podcast excerpt fake. u/Due-Smoke8035 (92pt) argued that the issue should remain visible until the BRICS summit, showing how distribution continues when it becomes linked to political scheduling.
  • Thread 4 (r/youtube, 368pt, 2026-09-04, https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/1w6wwp5/) — A nostalgia post asking, “Do you remember the kinds of videos old YouTube had?” u/SenseAffectionate328 (90pt): “It’s all AI slop now.” But u/mrloko120 (66pt) pushed back: those videos have not disappeared; people simply are not finding them, recommending Joel Haver and Wizards with Guns.
  • Thread 6 (r/content_marketing, 20pt, 2026-09-02, https://www.reddit.com/r/content_marketing/comments/1w56qqj/) — A thread asking how to go viral. u/TeslaLegacy (2pt) offered an interesting data point: after tracking posts that grew in the past 48 hours, only about 8% of viral posts were made during the supposed “best posting times”; posts grew at all times of day, and images still outperform video in many niches.
  • Thread 10 (r/arcane, 167pt, 71 comments, 2026-09-05, https://www.reddit.com/r/arcane/comments/1w8da60/) — A thread on a video essay criticizing Arcane’s political portrayal. The highest-voted comment was u/Dav1d_Parker (400pt): “I hate the font,” an aside unrelated to substance. u/Student-bored8 (29pt) added that these video essays feel performative and have become echo chambers policing whom fandoms are allowed to like, suggesting fatigue with the format itself.
  • Thread 12 (r/BoredPandaHQ, 77pt, 2026-09-02, https://www.reddit.com/r/BoredPandaHQ/comments/1w5icbw/) — A video of a Japanese woman enjoying the countryside became a debate over Western beauty standards. u/skull-dog (33pt): in Japan, people can be teased for gaining only 2.3 kg, and are taught that being thin is normal. An example of a BoredPanda-mediated clip becoming a hook for cultural debate.
  • Thread 7 (r/TeenIndia, 19pt, 2026-09-04, https://www.reddit.com/r/TeenIndia/comments/1w6yj2s/) — A video of a house that survived flooding in Nepal. u/smokeytroilus (2pt) noted that the owner said in an interview that authentic 1980s building materials gave the beams and columns their strength, a comment valued as fact-checking context.
Signals
  • Rising: Political and social clip videos from India-focused subreddits (threads 2 and 3) are generating comments, with distribution tied more to provoking a particular political position than to the video’s intrinsic appeal.
  • Rising: Exposé and investigative documentary videos (thread 1) are spreading rapidly from YouTube. At the same time, presentation choices such as clown makeup are creating noise and discomfort.
  • Declining / backlash: Complaints that “today’s YouTube is full of AI slop” (thread 4). But the view is not unanimous: the rebuttal that creative videos still exist and discovery is the problem received comparable support.
  • Unexpected: u/TeslaLegacy’s thread 6 comment offered data that challenges the conventional wisdom of optimizing posting times: only around 8% of viral posts were made in optimal time slots. Rather than support for conventional reproducibility advice, measured contrarian observations—time matters little and images can outperform video—received more attention.
  • Divided opinion: In thread 10, the surface-level complaint “I hate the font” received the most votes, rather than substantive discussion of the video essay. Views on the format are split between people who feel it deserves serious discussion and those who consider it tired or performative.
Limits
  • Searches for “バズってる動画” and “話題の動画” returned only three threads—r/youtube, r/whatdoIdo, and r/arcane—and none targeted Japanese speakers; they were all posts in English-language communities. No direct mentions of “today’s viral videos” by Japanese-language users or in Japanese-language subreddits such as r/newsokur were found.
  • Threads 9 (r/whatdoIdo), 5 (r/AskReddit), and 11 (r/TwentiesIndia) were not reports on viral videos themselves, but adjacent topics that partially matched the search phrases: relationship advice, a general discussion, and a complaint. They are not treated as direct discoveries for this topic.
  • The collected threads were posted from 2026-08-30 through 2026-09-05, a wider range than the brief’s specified past 24–48 hours. The research did not strictly isolate only videos that went viral within 48 hours.
  • Threads 2, 3, 7, and 12 did not include direct links to their source videos on YouTube, Instagram, or elsewhere. Only Reddit post links were available, so the original posters, view counts, and likes could not be verified.
  • Only one thread was collected per subreddit, so it is unclear whether further relevant threads existed in the same communities.

X

X — We went looking for “viral videos” and found a trend-word chatterfest

The source material was output/x.posts.md / x.posts.json. The worker opened X’s Explore page in a headless browser while logged into the operator’s account, then collected 40 posts from 37 accounts by searching each of ten trends displayed there: Astra / Bitcoin / Ukrainian / Argentina / $SONG / OpenAI / Russia / Black / $KURO / Fable. These were not searches designed to find viral videos; they simply used Explore’s topic terms, so this was not a video-centered collection (see Limits).

Explore is tied to the location of the server used in this session—more than half of the items showed “Trending in Croatia”—so this is a Croatia-based Explore list, not a global trend list.

Accounts

Large accounts that hit once and accounts that gradually accumulate results through repeated posting should be treated separately.

  • Large accounts with one highly successful post (one post each): @lydiahallie (12,587 likes, ~1,600,000 views), @Ozzy122020 (11,914 likes, ~169,000 views), @soyMimiO_ (9,493 likes, ~95,000 views), @ArchiveLeafy (9,035 likes, ~771,000 views), @Bizarnage (6,993 likes, ~601,000 views), @Gangleculona (4,979 likes), and @Tendar (4,523 likes). These were one-off viral posts built around a timely remark or quote reply, rather than video content itself.
  • Accounts represented by multiple posts: @DD_Geopolitics (2 posts, 603 likes total, repeated Ukraine battlefield updates), @KuroTheCatSol (2 posts, 34 likes total, repeated $KURO memecoin promotion), and @EAjdarovic (2 posts, 3 likes total, repeated emoji posts about $SONG). Even their totals did not approach the reach of one post from the large accounts, so repeated-posting accounts were weak in this set.
  • AI video-generation cluster: Japanese-language accounts including @manaimovie, @onofumi_AI, @aigeboku, @UNIBRACITY, @gagarot200, @Maoku, @renoiseai, and @k_matsumaru posted experimental content about video/3D-generation AI such as “GPT-6 Astra” and “Fable 5.1.” Each was in the hundreds to low thousands of likes, but the cluster around the same Astra/Fable topics is notable.
Posts

Under the brief’s definition of “video,” none of the 40 collected posts were explicitly recorded as having attached video media; all were marked has an image. With that caveat, the following are the most notable posts by scale or by their discussion of video.

  1. #40 @lydiahallie (12,587 likes, 1,356 reposts, 1,813 replies, ~1,600,000 views, 2026-09-04) https://x.com/lydiahallie/status/2095967323412930677 — An announcement saying Claude Max weekly limits had reset and Fable 5.1 had launched, encouraging people to build things over the holiday. By far the highest-viewed post in the 40-item set, but it is product-related rather than a video.
  2. #31 @ArchiveLeafy (9,035 likes, 226 reposts, 63 replies, ~771,000 views, 2026-09-04) https://x.com/ArchiveLeafy/status/2095669832444166328 — A text-only post saying, roughly, “So this is what it means for Black suffering to become reaction videos.” It contains the phrase “reaction videos,” but no video is attached; text alone reached 770,000 views.
  3. #32 @Bizarnage (6,993 likes, 150 reposts, 68 replies, ~601,000 views, 2026-09-05) https://x.com/Bizarnage/status/2096233053425131835 — Commentary arguing that a Marvel-related trailer involving a black liquid character associated with Venom/Vulture was a poor trailer decision. The comment about the trailer, not the trailer itself, spread.
  4. #29 @Ozzy122020 (11,914 likes, 1,262 reposts, 46 replies, ~169,000 views, 2026-09-04) https://x.com/Ozzy122020/status/2095926026429690140 — A text anecdote about a DELTARUNE boss fight in which the screen went white and displayed “ABSOLUTE GASTER” in black letters. No video attachment was specified.
  5. #14 @porqueTTarg (3,546 likes, 63 reposts, 16 replies, ~233,000 views, 2026-09-04) https://x.com/porqueTTarg/status/2095839665559388673 — A post about a woman appearing on Argentina’s audition show Popstars and “the wrong hand.” It discusses a program clip, but the post itself was treated as an image.
  6. #3 @onofumi_AI (513 likes, 86 reposts, 12 replies, ~53,000 views, 2026-09-05) https://x.com/onofumi_AI/status/2096113261204979897 — A demonstration post about generating a 3D space from video with GPT-6 Astra. It documents turning a source video made with Midjourney and Kling into 3D, the closest example in the set to a video-generation post.
  7. #38 @renoiseai (140 likes, 16 reposts, 10 replies, ~99,000 views, 2026-09-04) https://x.com/renoiseai/status/2095773478200996066 — A GPT-6 Astra vs. Fable 5.1 comparison that fed the same prompt into Seedance 2.5. Likes were modest, but ~99,000 views was respectable.
  8. #39 @k_matsumaru (276 likes, 34 reposts, 14 replies, ~19,000 views, 2026-09-05) https://x.com/k_matsumaru/status/2096044983468150935 — A workflow explainer titled “How I make videos lately” (Typeless → Fable 5.1 → Seedream 5.0 Pro → Seedance). It explains production steps, but does not attach a video itself.
  9. #7 @sminston_with (460 likes, 41 reposts, 24 replies, ~60,000 views, 2026-09-04) https://x.com/sminston_with/status/2095946518297768130 — A chart post claiming someone predicted BTC would rise from $25 in 2013 to $93,000 on September 4, 2026. It grew as a Bitcoin-price story.
  10. #13 @Gangleculona (4,979 likes, 352 reposts, 10 replies, ~69,000 views, 2026-09-04) https://x.com/Gangleculona/status/2095979557547655631 — Part of a historical explanation thread about sovereignty over the Falkland/Malvinas Islands, with a strong political dimension linked to an Argentina trend.
Signals
  • Explore is currently driven by topic words, not video. The ten trends—Astra, Bitcoin, Ukrainian, Argentina, $SONG, OpenAI, Russia, Black, $KURO, and Fable—fall into three groups: geopolitics (Ukraine, Russia, Argentina), cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, $SONG, $KURO), and AI models (GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI, Fable 5.1). They are poorly aligned with searches meant to track viral videos.
  • What is growing is brief text and commentary, not clips themselves. The five biggest posts by views in this collection (#40, #31, #32, #29, #14) all lacked attached video. On X, short remarks about videos, programs, and trailers may currently travel farther than short-form video itself.
  • Underperforming content: $SONG posts (#17–20) were emoji-heavy promotional tweets with only 1–30 likes, giving Cardano-related memecoin promotion a clear sense of falling flat. $KURO posts (#33–36) showed a similar pattern, remaining follower-facing promotion.
  • Unexpected: “Astra” and “Fable,” two names associated with AI video/3D generation, appeared in Croatia’s Explore trends. Japanese-language accounts such as @onofumi_AI, @UNIBRACITY, @Maoku, @renoiseai, and @k_matsumaru were actively posting demonstrations and comparisons, revealing Japanese-community posts riding geographically distant trends.
Limits
  • X alone did not meet the brief’s completion target of ten videos with links, creators, and metrics. All 40 collected posts were recorded as hasPhoto: true; none were explicitly marked has a video. The worker searched Explore trend terms rather than video-specific phrases such as “viral video” or “バズった動画.” As a result, the number of posts that can definitively be called videos is zero; only three posts (#3, #38, #39) mention or demonstrate video-generation AI.
  • Explore was geographically fixed to one country, Croatia. Four of ten trends explicitly displayed “Trending in Croatia,” so this is not a representative global list.
  • Explore did not display a total number of “Posts on X” for each trend; it remained “—” in x.posts.md. The source population from which these 40 posts were sampled is unknown.
  • The session remained active with no signs of expiration. At least one post was collected for all ten search terms.

    Reference article: https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/70e3890cafb685c73d1cd21657a535ef7856596a
Details: During a scene in which a Fukushima University student discussed radiation research, a participant said, “I wouldn’t want someone from Fukushima University touching it.” Clips of the scene reached 7.2 million impressions on X by August 31 and prompted backlash. Hiroyuki also commented on it on September 2. Though the video is now outside the public period, it remains a Japanese-language YouTube-originated viral story.

Signals
  • A simultaneous K-pop solo showdown went viral: LISA’s “SaWaDiKa” and JISOO’s “CLICK” were released only a day apart, and both prompted fast-moving coverage on X and news sites centered on first-hours view records.
  • Trailers going viral instead of the films themselves: Both Avengers Endgame: Encore and Street Fighter became news through trailer-specific hooks—“fastest ever” and “interactive”—allowing their numbers to take on a life of their own before release.
  • Japanese anime trailers are also growing internationally: Toei’s Dragon Ball Super: Beerus trailer ranked in multiple countries on kworb.net’s global trends, including Egypt, the Dominican Republic, and South Africa. Japanese-origin content is becoming visible in international trends before domestic ones.
  • Controversial videos keep burning after they disappear: The wakatte.tv case continued circulating through clips, reporting, and prominent commenters after the video itself went private, showing that YouTube view counts alone cannot measure its real spread.
Limits
  • YouTube’s official trending page (youtube.com/feed/trending) and search-results page (youtube.com/results) are rendered with JavaScript, so direct retrieval produced only the footer and could not verify raw data. View counts and dates therefore rely on secondary sources including kworb.net, lenostube.com, and news reports from Deadline, Gizmodo, khaosodenglish.com, and others.
  • Japanese YouTube trending-ranking sites yutura.net and buzzweet.com returned 403 errors. A domestic Japan-only chart of “videos growing today” could not be verified directly.
  • Only seven of ten items had specific videos, links, and numbers verified. Original Japanese short-form viral videos, such as TikTok-like Shorts, could not be found this time, partly because direct YouTube search was unavailable. The finds were mainly music MVs, film trailers, and controversy, producing a format bias.
  • The formal channel name for LISA’s distributor (LLOUD Official versus LISA’s own channel) varied among articles and could not be fully confirmed.

Signals
  • Looking at the top of Bluesky’s “What’s Hot (Discover)” feed, videos that went viral in the past 24 hours were stronger in soothing content, craft, and trivia than in political outrage. Book restoration, wind sculptures, and unusual rocks—videos that are satisfying to watch or make viewers think “huh, interesting”—posted numbers comparable to image posts from strongly political accounts.
  • Investigative outlets such as ProPublica are clearly growing by clipping an article’s core into a roughly one-minute video, outperforming text-only posts from the same account: the text post had 1,752 likes, while the video reached 5,152.
  • Video posting remains a minority behavior in Japanese-language Bluesky. Only one video—the Puyo Puyo gameplay post—appeared in the Japanese viral extraction feed for posts with 200+ likes; most others were still images, illustrations, or screenshots. Viral Japanese videos are considerably smaller in scale than English-language ones.
  • Bluesky’s official “Video” trend feed is intended to provide this kind of ranking, but was inaccessible throughout this round (see Limits). This collection therefore comes from a Discover feed filtered for video and may not match Bluesky’s official viral-video trends.
Limits
  • Bluesky’s official post-search API (app.bsky.feed.searchPosts) consistently returned HTTP 403, regardless of queries such as “バズった動画,” “viral video,” or “went viral,” so keyword search could not be used.
  • Bluesky’s official video-trend feed, “Video” (thevids), which has 7,043 likes, consistently returned HTTP 502 despite repeated attempts. Bluesky’s own viral-video ranking could not be retrieved.
  • The third-party “Skylight (Viral Videos!)” feed, a dedicated video ranking by seven-day engagement, was also tried but returned an empty feed with zero posts.
  • As an alternative, the “What’s Hot (Discover)” feed and the Japanese “にほんごぽすと (viral extraction)” feed were collected, and only posts with embedded video were extracted. The pagination cursor was too long and subsequent-page retrieval failed, so only roughly the first 50 items from each feed were available; further video posts may have been missed.
  • For those reasons, only nine qualifying video posts were collected against a target of ten. Official Bluesky feature-introduction videos were excluded because they were more promotional announcements than viral posts.
  • bsky.app’s web search is a JavaScript-rendered SPA, so its body content could not be retrieved directly and was not used.

  • «メールアドレス» — A small community with 85 subscribers and 387 daily users, but it repeatedly posts Trump-related “viral video” stories.
  • «メールアドレス» — An RSS-repost community for positive news. Subscriber count could not be confirmed on the page.
  • «メールアドレス» — A left-wing meme and current-events community on the Lemmy-related hexbear.net instance. Subscriber count was hidden because the page could not be retrieved due to Anubis protection. It picked up a song that went viral on TikTok.
Posts
  1. “Woman refusing to pay restaurant bill is taken away by police” video (Woman refuses to pay restaurant bill)
    Poster: Fuswoo / «メールアドレス» / Score 101 (down 7) / 37 comments / posted around 15 hours ago (roughly overnight September 5–6, 2026)

    Post: https://lemmy.world/post/51551465
A woman refuses to pay at a restaurant. A police officer handles the situation patiently before she is ultimately arrested for theft and trespass. Comments largely support the officer, arguing that the person who damaged property was at fault and that the officer showed restraint; some discussion developed into race, with claims that a person of color would have been treated more harshly.

  2. “Spectator crosses directly in front of the peloton at Tour of Britain” video (Today at Tour of Britain 🫣)
    Poster: Fosss / «メールアドレス» / Score 34 (down 3) / 15 comments / 1 day ago (2026-09-05)

    Post: https://lemmy.world/post/51530201
At the Tour of Britain road race, a woman ignores staff attempts to stop her and crosses through lead motorcycles immediately in front of the peloton, narrowly avoiding a collision. Comments mainly criticized her, saying she had learned nothing from past spectator accidents and could have waited 15 seconds.

  3. “Trump ‘wearable toilet’ video goes viral” ("Wearable toilet": Video of Donald Trump's backside goes viral)

Footage of Trump from behind spread on social media and was mocked as resembling an adult diaper. The Lemmy response was modest, with only three comments.

  4. “Trump appears to nod off at the White House; video sparks debate” (Donald Trump appears to nod off at White House as viral video sparks fierce debate)
    «メールアドレス» / Score 28 / 1 comment / source article published 2026-09-04
    Post: https://lemmy.world/post/51512700 / Source article: https://www.irishstar.com/culture/entertainment/donald-trump-asleep-fierce-debate-37621551
A shared article about footage in which Trump appeared to doze during a White House meeting, generating debate over whether he was actually asleep or whether it was staged. Response on Lemmy was limited.

  5. “Billionaire’s daughter’s song goes viral on TikTok and sparks backlash” (Stella Lefty's Song Blew Up on TikTok — and Sparked an Internet Pile-On)
    «メールアドレス» / Score 35 / 13 comments / posted 2026-09-05T17:17 UTC

Country-pop singer Stella Lefty, daughter of billionaire Eric Lefkofsky, saw her song “Boston” go viral on TikTok, but it then drew allegations of unauthorized sampling from Noah Kahan and criticism that she debuted only through parental wealth. Comments in the left-wing community largely framed it as a rich person’s hobby.

  6. “Man cleaning one NYC street block every day for 100 days goes viral and brings in neighbors” (Neighbors Get Swept Up in Man's Viral Journey to Clean a NYC Street Block Every Day for 100 Days)
    «メールアドレス» / Score 5 / posted 2026-09-04T21:15 UTC
    Source article: https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/neighbors-gets-swept-up-in-mans-viral-journey-to-clean-1-nyc-street-block-every-day-for-100-days/
David of Washington Heights (TikTok: @trashtalk_nyc) made videos of cleaning one section of 171st Street every day for 100 days. The videos went viral, and neighbors began joining the cleanup and creating flower beds. A feel-good viral story. The direct Lemmy post link could not be identified; only the source article URL was confirmed.

Signals
  • Lemmy’s sharing of viral-video stories is split between politically charged communities (us_news, chapotraphouse) and the general videos community. Japanese-language and entertainment-focused viral stories were virtually absent.
  • Trump-related “viral footage” stories were the most frequent category found, with reposts primarily intended for political mockery or debate. There were more article reposts saying that a video was controversial than direct posts of the video itself.
  • Scores and comment counts were generally small compared with other platforms, peaking at roughly 100, and did not approach Reddit-scale virality.
  • Many posts reflected secondary distribution: videos and songs first catching fire on TikTok or YouTube, then becoming articles reposted to Lemmy, as with Stella Lefty’s TikTok song and David @trashtalk_nyc’s TikTok videos.
Limits
  • Lemmy is small in scale, and there were few direct video posts limited to today (2026-09-06, past 24–48 hours). The ten-item completion target was not reached; only six substantive items were found.
  • Further searches on lemmy.ml and lemm.ee did not produce additional material. lemm.ee returned a 301 redirect to join-lemmy.org, preventing API retrieval, while lemmy.ml searches returned only duplicate hits for the same articles.
  • The home instance for chapotraphouse, hexbear.net, blocked direct access with Anubis bot protection, so information such as subscriber counts could not be verified.
  • A «メールアドレス» post titled “Global Child sex cult exposed in Los Angeles” was also found, posted two hours earlier with score 6 and zero comments, but was excluded as a viral video because there was little evidence of actual spread and its content leaned toward unverified conspiracy claims.
  • No Japanese-language viral videos—of the kind associated with the “today’s viral videos” brand—were found on Lemmy, likely reflecting the platform’s English-language, politically centered user base.

Recommended actions

  • Next time, search X directly for “viral video” or “バズ動画,” rather than relying on Explore trend terms, or filter for posts containing video media.
  • Re-fetch Bluesky’s official “Video” (thevids) feed as soon as its 502 errors are resolved, and compare it against the alternative Discover-feed aggregation.
  • Search Japanese-language subreddits and Japanese keywords more directly in Reddit research to reduce the bias toward English-language Indian political content.
  • Prepare an API-based method for YouTube research that avoids the official trending page’s JavaScript-rendering issue and can capture short-form videos (Shorts).
  • Track the politically and controversy-driven sharing visible on Lemmy and X separately from straightforward entertainment-video sharing, and avoid conflating them in Signals.
  • Keep LISA’s “SaWaDiKa” and JISOO’s “CLICK” K-pop solo-MV numbers battle on the continuing watch list.

Data quality notes

YouTube (seven of ten) and Bluesky (nine of ten) produced relatively solid collections with concrete figures and links. Reddit, X, and Lemmy did not reach the ten-item completion target; on X, the number of posts that could actually be confirmed as videos was effectively zero.
