There were few videos today that could unequivocally be called “newly viral.” What appeared across social networks was mainly the resurgence of old clips, the same news spreading across multiple accounts, and predictable growth driven by new songs or major updates.
Today's Viral Video Roundup — September 13, 2026
In short, there were not many videos today that one could immediately point to as a definitive new viral hit on any platform. On Reddit and X, older videos resurfacing without context and individual news stories spreading across multiple accounts stood out, while YouTube's Japanese trending list was dominated by “expected-hit” videos boosted by the timing of new songs and updates. Bluesky and Lemmy have limitations in their video-specific search and feed features, so collection on both relied instead on curated feeds and community browsing. Overall, this was an edition in which virtually no suddenly viral videos from the Japanese-language sphere were found within the scope of this research, while each platform displayed a different kind of “viral” behavior.
Across platforms
- Many posts labeled as “viral videos” could not confidently be called videos at all. On X, only one of nine posts explicitly said “Video”; the rest were images, screenshots, or text. Reddit likewise had only a limited number of threads with direct links to the actual videos, reflecting its stronger role as a discussion venue.
- Out-of-context clipped videos sparking controversy was a pattern shared across several platforms. On Reddit, the Hindutva woman vs. landlord beef dispute video received diametrically opposed reactions depending on the subreddit, and a participant pointed out that the full video was only a minute and a half long and was not really about beef. Similar criticism of context-free clips also appeared independently in the BreadTube controversy.
- Delayed reposting and renewed virality from other platforms were visible. The Drew Lock video on Lemmy was reposted several days after the clip had first gone viral on Bluesky, suggesting that videos “circulate” between social networks.
- Rather than one huge standalone viral hit, simultaneous spread of the same news across many accounts was more conspicuous today. On X, reports of an attack on Saudi pipelines were posted and gained traction by seven or eight accounts at nearly the same time; no single video was what took off.
- Thin Japanese-language coverage was a shared weakness. Reddit, X, and Bluesky all surfaced almost no viral videos from the Japanese-language sphere. YouTube's Japanese trending list was the only source that directly reflected it.
Platform by platform
Reddit: Twelve threads were collected from 12 internationally diverse subreddits. The biggest discussion was about an engagement being broken off because of a bride's video (1,371 comments), but it originated on Instagram rather than Reddit. The Indian-cluster “landlord vs. beef grill” video is a strong example of how the very same clip can receive completely opposite evaluations across subreddits. A post in r/conspiracy was not newly viral, but rather a reinterpretation of an old video—an important reminder that search terms such as “viral video/clip” do not necessarily surface only newly posted videos from the last 24–48 hours.
X: Forty items were collected via Explore trending terms such as Slack, $SONG, Saudi, and Chelsea, but because the searches were not video-specific, only one could be confidently identified as a video. The dominant topic was Houthi-related news surrounding attacks on Saudi pipelines, spread simultaneously by multiple independent accounts. The fact that the trends were localized to access from Croatia also made this a poor source for identifying globally viral videos.
YouTube: Collection centered on Japan's trending rankings. LISA's new-song dance performance video (about 4.12 million views), the LE SSERAFIM × Overwatch collaboration video, fighting-game tournament broadcasts, and similar videos ranked highly; all were the kind that rise by landing directly on the timing of a new song, update, or event. Planned videos from major VTubers and gaming creators such as Pekora, Miko, and Dozle Corp. also reliably reached the hundreds of thousands of views, but no meme-like standalone video that had suddenly spread within the Japanese-language sphere was found.
Bluesky: Its keyword-search API (searchPosts) returned 403 errors throughout, while the official video feed, “Video,” returned 502 errors, making direct retrieval impossible. Collection instead used the alternative “Discover” feed and community-run video feeds. A video about Christian Bale's foster-care facility (25,716 likes) was the day's top post, with political content (booing Ted Cruz) and heartwarming animal videos (a sleeping cat and an owl) forming the two main genres. Its metrics were much smaller than those on X or TikTok.
Lemmy: Because its search API does not support full-text searching of post bodies, collection relied on individually browsing the videos, nottheonion, and nfl communities. The highest-scoring item was a news video about an incident in a koi pond (score 235, 76 comments). Lemmy's ceiling for “viral” is in the 100–200 score range—orders of magnitude below TikTok or X—and a skew was also visible in which a single user, Amine_Jouahri, accounted for many of the top posts.
About the gaps: All five platforms specified in the brief—Reddit, X, YouTube, Bluesky, and Lemmy—were researched. The absence of other platforms is outside this scope and is not a gap that needs reporting.
What to watch
- Reddit: How the split reaction to the “landlord vs. beef grill” video develops — https://www.reddit.com/r/unitedstatesofindia/comments/1wdzgna/
- X: Follow-up coverage of the Saudi pipeline attack/Houthi reports, currently being spread by seven to eight accounts — https://x.com/Osinttechnical/status/2098455600527011909
- YouTube: Capcom Pro Tour 2026 (UFA) live commentary and the view growth boosted by a viral photo originating on X — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySCaBe4Iqh0
- Bluesky: How the Christian Bale foster-care facility video spreads—the combination of celebrity and emotionally uplifting content — https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:uo2fna47c4v6zcnklxfhcvjb/post/3mvbtbghmws2n
- Lemmy: Where the Polish AI-regulation protest video featuring robots spreads next — https://lemmy.world/post/51787038
Recommendations
- Switch X collection to video-specific search terms such as “viral video” and “buzzing video,” rather than relying only on general Explore trends.
- Retry Bluesky's official video feed (
thevids) and search API (searchPosts) later to reduce the skew created by relying on curated feeds amid the current 502/403 failures. - For controversial Reddit clips, verify the original video and whether a full-length version exists before reporting why they went viral whenever possible.
- To capture viral videos from the Japanese-language sphere, consider adding Japanese-native sources beyond YouTube, since Reddit/X/Bluesky alone provide sparse coverage.
- Since Lemmy's
videoscommunity is skewed toward particular regular posters, consider monitoring multiple instances in parallel.
Data quality
X had no standard social-media flag distinguishing images from videos, and its search terms were not video-specific, so the collection quality was low: only roughly one post could be confidently identified as a video. Bluesky's search API and official video feed were technically unavailable, leaving collection limited to substitute feeds. Neither Reddit nor Lemmy reached the brief's target of 10 videos per platform (Reddit had 12 threads but limited direct video links; Lemmy stopped at eight videos), and this was explicitly noted rather than artificially padding the results.

What people say
- Thread #10 (r/MechanicalPandey, 3,804 points, 1,371 comments, 2026-09-09): A story about a bride's posted video reaching the groom, resulting in their engagement being called off. Top commenter u/Spiritual_Horror_520 (76 points) defended the groom, saying, “Bhaisaab maan gaya bhagwaan to hai bacha liya bhai ko (Thank God, the brother was saved),” and added that if he had married, he would have spent half his life in court and paying alimony. https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalPandey/comments/1wbhe4i/
- Thread #2 (r/unitedstatesofindia, 777 points, 241 comments, 2026-09-12) and thread #6 (r/20sIndiaReal, 836 points, 480 comments, 2026-09-11) cover the same video: an Indian woman argues with an American landlord about a beef grill and threatens to call the police. But their reactions are completely opposite. The top comment in #2, by u/Brilliant-Mirror8778 (474 points), condemns her, saying she was arrested for illegally violating tenant rights and the police response was correct. Meanwhile, u/Technical_Skill9600 (10 points) in #6 pushes back: “This isn't about religion; don't be fooled by gora without even reading the news.” The same video is being interpreted differently depending on the community. https://www.reddit.com/r/unitedstatesofindia/comments/1wdzgna/ / https://www.reddit.com/r/20sIndiaReal/comments/1wdoleh/
- In thread #2, u/That_Guy_Mojo (23 points) noted that people were misled into believing it was a beef dispute by watching only a clipped minute and a half; according to them, the full 1:30 video is actually about a conflict between tenants over rust or grill scorch marks. This highlights how the viral short clip lacked context.
- Thread #1 (r/NewsWithJingjing, 463 points, 21 comments, 2026-09-11): A trend of young Chinese couples posting before-and-after videos of their new homes. u/AN-94Abokan (100 points) self-deprecatingly said, “I'm 40 and still paying rent, so I guess I have no choice but to move into the woods,” while u/PaulWesterberg84 (56 points) reacted positively: “A society that values young people—I'm jealous.” https://www.reddit.com/r/NewsWithJingjing/comments/1wdifrf/
- Thread #9 (r/YouTubeCreators, 125 points, 26 comments, 2026-09-08): The creator reported, “I had been stuck at 200,000 views over three years, but this time I hit 5 million in four days.” They self-reported concrete metrics: 69.8% retention, 3.8% CTR, 20-second average watch time, and 43,000 likes. u/Inside-Meet6348 (5 points) replied, “5 million views with 69.8% retention is incredible—what's the content?” https://www.reddit.com/r/YouTubeCreators/comments/1wawkj5/
- Thread #7 (r/BreadTube, 146 points, 69 comments, 2026-09-10): A clip from a left-wing event, edited to make it sound like “get stronger than fascists through strength training,” sparked backlash, and streamer Noah Samsen posted an explanatory video. u/Chaetomius (218 points, highest-scoring comment) summarized their position as: “I understand the argument that we should stop treating fitness as a virtue, but it's not as if we're preparing for revolution,” while keeping some distance from it. u/NoNoNext (11 points) criticized clip culture itself: “Too many people react immediately based only on context-free clips; the full panel can be watched on Haymarket Books' YouTube.” https://www.reddit.com/r/BreadTube/comments/1wcmx3v/
- Thread #11 (r/conspiracy, 105 points, 58 comments, 2026-09-12): A post re-examining the truth behind an old video purportedly showing Palestinians celebrating 9/11. u/PepeThePepper (34 points) wrote at length about the “Dancing Israelis” incident, including details such as the deportation of two alleged Mossad-linked individuals. This was not a newly viral video from the day, but an example of an old video periodically resurfacing and being reinterpreted.
- Thread #12 (r/fireemblem, 194 points, 59 comments, 2026-09-11): A character-conversation video in Nintendo Today became a topic because the English and Japanese versions differ in presentation. u/SatisfactionNo3524 (46 points) noted that the English version greatly tones down the character's timidness compared with the Japanese version. It has little news value, but is an example of a niche form of virality based on Japanese-English localization differences.
- Thread #3 (r/HelpMeFindThis, 43 points, 5 comments, 2026-09-09): A source-identification request for a video pairing saxophone audio with a car—actually the sound of firework-filled pants. Reactions such as u/Fit-Contract8566's (4 points) “The saxophone completes this” are a small but classic example of responses to an audio-joke video. https://www.reddit.com/r/HelpMeFindThis/comments/1wbz1fb/
Signals
- The strongest genuinely newly fast-spreading video on Reddit today was thread #10, about the bride's post leading to an engagement breakup, with an exceptional 1,371 comments. However, this was a case of an Instagram-originated video being reposted to Reddit and sparking discussion, not Reddit itself being the ignition point.
- A pronounced split in reactions to the same video was evident (#2 vs. #6, the Hindutva woman video). Depending on the political tendencies of the subreddit where it was posted, the same clip became either righteous justice or an out-of-context pile-on.
- Self-aware complaints that “clipping distorts context” appeared in two independent threads: u/That_Guy_Mojo in #2 and u/NoNoNext in #7. This suggests a meta-pattern: the more viral a clip becomes, the easier it is for the original video's context to disappear.
- Posts such as #9 in r/YouTubeCreators, where creators themselves narrate their sudden rise, differ from the others because they document virality from the creator's perspective rather than the audience's.
- One surprising finding was that the post in r/conspiracy (#11) was not about a newly viral video today, but a reinterpretation of an old one. The search conditions used here (“viral video/clip”) did not necessarily surface only newly viral content from the past 24–48 hours; resurging old material was mixed in as well.
Limits
- The Japanese search term “バズってる動画” returned no results. All 12 collected items were found using only four terms: “話題の動画,” “went viral,” “viral video,” and “viral clip.” Topics from Japanese-language viral-video communities, such as NanJ or Newsoku-style communities, are not included in this collection.
- Twelve items were collected, but this did not meet the initial target of “10 videos per social network.” Reddit is not a video-sharing platform but a discussion venue for linked content, so only a limited number of threads explicitly contained direct links to the videos themselves (#2, #10, #11, and so on).
- Threads #4, #5, and #8 are all meta-discussions or question threads about the very concept of “going viral,” rather than specific real viral videos, and are therefore not counted as video examples.
- Only up to six top comments were collected from each thread, so the tone of comments beyond that point is unknown.
X
X — Daily Viral Video
To say this up front: what surfaced on X this time was mostly not “viral videos” themselves, but “topics currently going viral on X” (trends). In many cases, it would be dishonest to claim with certainty that they were videos. The reasons are summarized in “Limits” below, but first, here is what was happening within the available material.
Accounts
- @Symply_rhoda1 (Rhoda): One post alone received 21,799 likes, 984 reposts, and approximately 5.6 million views. By far the largest figures among the 40 collected items. It was a text post in essay form about a niece's job-search struggles, not a video. It is unusual for a single post to grow this much.
- Middle East situation cluster (many separate accounts): Eleven accounts—@Osinttechnical, @IRMilitaryMedia, @IranTimes72, @IranTimes01 (the same operator, Ebrahim Zolfaghari), @Anujbost, @dimitrilascaris, @Rusia_HD, @Jjlopez_almejo, @DidierMaisto, @AlternatNews, and @YourAnonCentral—each posted nearly identical news claiming that the Houthis destroyed Saudi pipelines or Aramco facilities. Rather than a breakout from one account, this was a case of many accounts simultaneously picking up the same story and gaining traction.
- @BrianRoemmele (Brian Roemmele): Two posts, with 230 likes and 583 likes. The account repeatedly posts provocative China- and AI-related statements.
- @EAjdarovic (MEDO): Two posts, but with only three likes and zero likes, respectively. A spam-adjacent pattern of repeatedly posting only the stock ticker “$SONG.”
- @IranTimes72 / @IranTimes01: The same person posts similar Houthi/Saudi topics from separate accounts. An example of one person amplifying the same narrative through multiple accounts.

A controversy-baiting post comparing a Korean chaebol family with a Chinese D-list actor. It takes the form of a quoted reply to another post. - @Rusia_HD (Russia X) https://x.com/Rusia_HD/status/2098421076133110159 (2026-09-11; 3,990 likes, 560 reposts, 85 replies, approximately 664,000 impressions)

A quoted post claiming that a Yemen-based group had used multiple instances of Claude Code to develop guided rockets, ballistic missiles, and hypersonic glide vehicles. It gained traction through the AI-and-military angle. - @Osinttechnical (OSINTtechnical) https://x.com/Osinttechnical/status/2098455600527011909 (2026-09-11; 3,555 likes, 805 reposts, approximately 299,000 impressions)
Quoting CNN reporting: a pump station on Saudi Arabia's east-west pipeline was attacked on Thursday, with one location severely damaged. This Saudi-pipeline news was covered simultaneously by at least seven or eight accounts, including @IRMilitaryMedia (1,975 likes, approximately 60,000 impressions), @IranTimes72 (140 likes), @Jjlopez_almejo (1,030 likes, approximately 91,000 impressions), @DidierMaisto (966 likes, approximately 26,000 impressions), @AlternatNews (370 likes, approximately 25,000 impressions), and @YourAnonCentral (776 likes, approximately 129,000 impressions). It feels like the collection's clearest leading trend. - @PrakazVijay_Of (Prakash Vijay) https://x.com/PrakazVijay_Of/status/2098782368169660896 (2026-09-12; 3,436 likes, 728 reposts, 9 replies, approximately 90,000 impressions)
A post reading, “Video 10: @TVKVijayHQ at Silverstone in London.” One of the few examples among the 40 collected posts that explicitly says “Video” in the body, making it highly likely to be video content. It appears to be the tenth entry in a series of videos featuring politician Vijay. - @C_of_Creativity (PIYO) https://x.com/C_of_Creativity/status/2098498590134182035 (2026-09-11; 1,407 likes, 357 reposts, approximately 199,000 impressions)
A Japanese-language tech post claiming that a modified Nvidia RTX 5090 with 96 GB of VRAM was listed on Alibaba for under $4,000. It is gaining traction in tech circles. - @akshay_pachaar (Akshay) https://x.com/akshay_pachaar/status/2098675498742395373 (2026-09-12; 508 likes, 86 reposts, 42 replies, approximately 44,000 impressions)
A practical thread listing “11 LLM evaluation methods every AI engineer should know.” An example of useful-content virality rather than live commentary or outrage.
Signals
- This Explore page displayed “Trending in Croatia,” meaning the list was localized to access from Croatia (Slack, $SONG, Saudi, China, The OS, London, and so on). It was not a global trends list, but local trends based on the connection origin. It included no topics from Japan or video-culture communities, which is a major caveat.
- More than the single massive breakout from @Symply_rhoda1 with 5.6 million impressions, the collection was marked by the phenomenon of multiple independent accounts simultaneously picking up and growing the same news story—the Saudi pipeline attack/Houthi story. Rather than one viral video, this was breaking news spreading in a distributed way across many accounts.
- The only post that can confidently be identified as a video based on its text is effectively @PrakazVijay_Of's “Video 10.” The others are primarily screenshots, meme images, or chart images. The honest impression is that today on X was less a day when “videos were going viral” and more one when text/image posts and breaking news were going viral.
- One surprising result was that stock-spam-like posts such as @EAjdarovic's repeated $SONG posts appeared directly in Explore search results because of the trending term $SONG. A trending term is not always genuinely popular material; bot-driven or organized posts can be mixed in.
Limits
- The search terms were not suited to finding viral videos: the terms recorded in
x.posts.mdwere Slack / $SONG / Saudi / Chelsea / China / Yemen / The OS / London / Correct / Houthis. These were taken directly from X Explore's trends panel. Terms such as “viral video” or “バズ動画” were not searched, so this cannot be said to have captured video-specific virality. - The collected data does not distinguish videos from images:
x.posts.jsonhas only ahasPhotoflag and does not indicate whether attached media are still images or videos. Therefore, only posts that explicitly identify themselves as video, such as #7's “Video 10,” can be classified with confidence; the others can only be described as having images. - Because of these two issues, the brief's requirement of “10 videos with links, creators, and metrics” could not be met by this X dataset. The nine posts above summarize the high-engagement posts and topic clusters found, and only one can confidently be called a video.
- Because Explore trends were localized to a Croatian connection, they cannot be read as global video trends.

YouTube — Today's Viral Videos (September 13, 2026)
Following YouTube's trending list, today was heavily dominated by new music and performance videos, fighting-game tournament broadcasts, and planned videos from major VTubers and gaming groups. These are less “viral videos originating in Japan” than videos whose view counts are surging right now, so read them with that distinction in mind.

Trends (Signals)
- The top trending videos today were more often growing by landing directly on the timing of new songs and major updates than through event-driven virality (LISA, LE SSERAFIM, Genshin Impact, EBiDAN, Shigure Ui). K-pop releases in particular surpassed one million views at an especially rapid pace within one to two days of publication.
- Everyday content from major VTubers and gaming groups (Pekora, Miko, Dozle Corp., GON) is not driven by a one-off “incident,” but consistently reaches the hundreds of thousands through easily understood concepts in the title: numbers, restrictions, and nostalgia.
- In esports, a single on-site photo going viral on X appeared to help boost views for a YouTube commentary video, illustrating cross-platform interaction (UFA 2026).
- These were primarily videos that grew by riding the timing of a topic, rather than unexpected viral hits. No meme-like standalone video that suddenly spread in the Japanese-language sphere appeared among the top trending entries this time.
Limits
- YouTube's official trending page (youtube.com/feed/trending) redirected to a consent page and could not be retrieved directly, so the primary source was the third-party aggregation on [Digital Creators], updated at 08:14 on 2026/09/13 with a three-hour update interval. This is a snapshot from that point in time; the ranking may have shifted further during the day.
- Since YouTube search result pages (youtube.com/results) are rendered with JavaScript and their contents could not be retrieved directly, individual video titles, channels, and URLs were identified through web search instead. Some videos—BE:FIRST's “WATCH ME -Global EP Digest-,” JO1's “IGNITE” practice video, and a Pokémon Champions video from Poké Ch.—appeared on the trending list but were excluded because a reliable direct video URL could not be identified.
- Background on why videos were trending, such as reaction on X, was supplemented through related web-search results rather than the videos themselves; direct quotations from video comments were not available.
- Globally event-driven standalone meme videos—animal clips, dashcam footage, accident clips, and similar content—were sought, but none were found to be clearly trending in the past 24–48 hours. The strong music/game/VTuber skew at the top of Japanese trends should be understood as a feature of that market's trending algorithm.
Bluesky
Bluesky — Viral Video Roundup for Today (2026/9/12–13)
Bluesky has very little culture or infrastructure for searching specifically for videos, and its keyword-search API was blocked during this collection (see Limits). So viral videos were gathered through video-specific custom feeds created by Bluesky and community members. The general impression is that it lacks the explosive reach of TikTok or X, but political content and heartwarming animal videos are extremely strong.
Accounts
Accounts that create or curate viral video content.
- @bsky.app — Official Bluesky account. It runs the video-specific “Video” feed (
thevids, 7,052 likes) and algorithmic recommendation feed “Discover” (whats-hot, 39,437 likes). - @byarielm.fyi — Runs an independent video-curation feed, “OG Videos 📈” (363 likes). It tends to collect cute animal videos.
- @rude1.blacksky.team — Operator of “Blacksky Videos” (664 likes), a video feed for the Black Bluesky community. Today's most viral video, the Christian Bale one, came through this feed.
- @cwebbonline.com — Christopher Webb. Author of today's clear number-one post.
- @phillewis.bsky.social — Phil Lewis, a news-focused journalist and apparent regular source of viral political videos.
- @theonion.com — The Onion, a satirical media outlet. Its satirical video gained traction.
- @nytimes.com, @elpais.com — Major news media outlets. Their news footage naturally enters the viral-video category.
- @unicouniuni3.bsky.social, @caenhillcc.bsky.social, @saimihanma.bsky.social — Individual animal-video accounts. Cats and owls regularly receive 3,000 to over 10,000 likes.
- @nekonomiku.bsky.social — One of the few Japanese-language posters found, posting cat videos. Within this sample, however, its posts had only around 10–15 likes and were not viral.
Posts
All were posts indexed within the past 24–48 hours, from the early hours of 2026/9/12 through 9/13. Figures are likes/reposts/replies at collection time.

Wildlife content on a smaller scale, but an archetypal pattern.
Signals
- Politics and current affairs paired with video are overwhelmingly strong. Booing footage, satirical videos, and protest clips appearing near the top are distinctive to Bluesky. The platform's relatively liberal-leaning user base is directly reflected in which videos become viral.
- The other major pillar is heartwarming animal content. Simple, nearly unedited clips of cats sleeping or purring, owls, eagles, and other animals consistently earn likes.
- Official accounts from news organizations—the NYTimes, El País, and The Onion—are themselves sources of viral video. Posts from established media more often go viral than content from accounts focused specifically on individual video creation, making creator-originated virality relatively less common on Bluesky.
- The numerical scale is far smaller than on X or TikTok. Even today's number-one post had only 25,716 likes and 6,046 RPs. Almost no videos from the Japanese-language sphere at the scale of hundreds of thousands of views were observed.
- Japanese-language posts were almost entirely absent. Among the sampled video feeds, the only Japanese account was @nekonomiku.bsky.social, posting cat videos with around 10–15 likes—not a scale that could be called viral. Bluesky remains very thin as a hub for Japanese viral video.
Limits
- Keyword search (
app.bsky.feed.searchPosts) returned 403 errors throughout and could not be used. Direct searches using Japanese and English terms such as “バズってる動画,” “話題の動画,” and “viral video” were unavailable this time. Other public API endpoints such asgetProfileworked normally, suggesting a restriction specific to the search endpoint. - Because the
bsky.appweb UI is JavaScript-rendered, raw page retrieval could not read post text or metrics. Collection therefore switched to Bluesky'spublic.api.bsky.appREST API, usinggetPopularFeedGeneratorsandgetFeed. - Bluesky's official video feed, “Video” (
thevids, with 7,052 likes for the feed itself), returned 502 errors on all three retrieval attempts. It was replaced by the “Discover” (whats-hot), “OG Videos 📈,” and “Blacksky Videos” feeds. - For these reasons, explanations of why posts became viral are limited to inferences from post text and captions. The poster's own comments and reactions in quote reposts were not tracked.
- Because almost no Japanese-language trending videos were found on Bluesky, the Posts section focuses on English-language content, with some Spanish- and German-language material.
Lemmy
Lemmy — Viral Videos for Today (9/11–9/12)
Lemmy is a federated social network spread across instances, so explosive virality on the scale of TikTok or X is almost nonexistent. Still, mainly in the videos community, there are posts whose scores (upvotes) have risen over the past 24–48 hours. This review centered on videos, nottheonion, and nfl communities on lemmy.world, the largest instance.
Communities
- !«メールアドレス» (approximately 18,702 subscribers) — A community for sharing interesting videos from around the web. It prohibits political content and requires direct links. Most of the viral videos found this time came from here.
- !«メールアドレス» (approximately 22,465 subscribers) — A community for real news stories that sound as though they could be Onion articles. Posts containing news videos are mixed in.
- !«メールアドレス» (approximately 5,148 subscribers) — For NFL fans. Game clips and reposted social-media highlights occasionally go viral.
- !«メールアドレス» — A community for unpredictable mishap videos, but its latest posts stop in 2023, making it effectively dormant and outside this collection.

“British influencer Danny Tommo at Daily Mail HQ”
Posted by: Unknown (creator information was not retrieved from the post list) / !«メールアドレス»
Score 5, 3 comments, posted 2026-09-10
https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/f159e4c333ce.mp4
→ A video of British influencer Danny Tommo doing something outside the Daily Mail headquarters. Its score is low, but it still ranked as a post from within the most recent 48 hours.
Signals
- On Lemmy, scores in the 100–200 range are effectively the ceiling for “viral” content; the highest in this collection was 235. This is orders of magnitude different from millions of views on TikTok or X, so these should be read as videos that are viral only relative to Lemmy.
- Posts in the videos community often use direct mp4 links hosted on imgchest.com (
cdn.imgchest.com) or personal servers (files.ikt.id.au). YouTube embeds tend not to score as well, likely because of the community rule favoring direct links. - A single user, Amine_Jouahri, posted two of the top three highest-scoring items, suggesting that several regular posters drive a significant portion of virality in the videos community.
- As seen with Drew Lock, videos that first become viral on other platforms such as Bluesky can be reposted to Lemmy several days later and experience renewed, smaller-scale virality.
- The koi-fish news video had the most comments, 76, suggesting that posts with a strong incident, sexual, or shock element are more likely to provoke discussion.
Limits
- The brief's completion criterion was 10 videos, but across Lemmy only eight posts in the past 24–48 hours clearly qualified as video posts gaining score: score of at least five and a video link. Beyond these, only strongly political posts or image posts remained, so the list stopped at eight rather than being artificially padded.
- Lemmy's search API focuses on title and keyword matches rather than full-text searching post bodies, so directly searching for “viral” was ineffective. Collection instead involved individually browsing the
videos/nottheonion/nflcommunities by newest and rising posts. - !«メールアドレス» was searched but had zero posts, likely because the community is effectively inactive or empty due to moderation. !«メールアドレス» also stopped receiving posts in 2023, so neither could be used for this viral-video search.
- Other instances such as lemmy.ml and lemm.ee were checked briefly, but their video communities were mostly duplicate mirrors of
«メールアドレス», with little independent additional material. - Creator names could not be retrieved from the API responses for two posts, “Fool me once” and “Danny Tommo,” and this is stated in the text.
- Lemmy's API does not provide view counts; it only provides score, calculated as upvotes minus downvotes. Score and comment count are therefore used to indicate momentum instead of view counts.
Recommended actions
- Switch X collection to video-specific search terms such as “viral video,” rather than relying only on general trends accessed through Explore.
- Retry Bluesky's official video feed (
thevids) and search API (searchPosts) later following the current 502/403 outages. - Verify the original and full-length versions of controversial Reddit clips before reporting on them.
- Consider adding Japanese-native information sources beyond YouTube to capture viral videos from the Japanese-language sphere.
- Because Lemmy's
videoscommunity is skewed toward particular posters, consider parallel monitoring across several instances.
Data-quality note
Because X data did not distinguish videos from images and its search terms were not video-specific, only one post could effectively be confirmed as a video. Bluesky's search API and official video feed were technically unavailable, so collection depended on substitute feeds. Neither Reddit nor Lemmy met the brief's 10-video target, and this was stated rather than padding the results.
