Daily App Store Report 2026-09-02
Today’s biggest movement (2026-09-02) is simultaneous new entries across multiple countries: new puzzle title Wild Water World debuted at #1 in ios-games/free in both JP and KR, landing at #44 in GB. In addition, Watch Tower Pro simultaneously broke through in ios-utilities/paid at #2 in GB/US and #4 in DE, as well as overall paid charts. Paid utilities and new games are today’s strongest storylines.
1. New Entries
Simultaneous appearances across multiple countries are today’s main theme. Wild Water World (Hong Kong Just Game Technology Limited) took the top spot in two East Asian markets at once, debuting at #1 in JP and KR and #44 in GB in ios-games/free. Watch Tower Pro (Blackfox Media LLC) debuted at #2 in GB and US and #4 in DE in ios-utilities/paid, while also breaking into overall/paid at #39 in GB, #50 in US, and #88 in DE across all three Western markets. play_music_theory debuted in ios-music/paid at #2 in GB and US, #5 in JP, and #11 in DE, while Rain Radar Pro landed simultaneously in five markets—KR, HR, DE, JP, and GB—in ios-weather/paid. In single-country moves, developer-focused and niche paid apps stood out by taking #1: Edit HTTP Headers for Safari in DE, SSHHEE in KR, and Watermelon Maestro in JP.
2. Sharp Gains Over the Period
The reference date is 2026-08-24, nine days ago. It is the oldest date in the archive, so there is not yet a full month of data and “monthly” figures are provisional. Gains are concentrated in JP and US, with no qualifying entries in DE, GB, HR, or KR. The largest gains were Japan’s Feng Shui Diagnosis: Xuan Kong Flying Star Feng Shui at #7 (+89), Photos 365 at #16 (+84), and Saku Ticket at #15 (+82). In the US, Prolost Watches reached #16 (+78) and Bilt Rewards #22 (+77). Apps absent on the reference date but now in the top 20 include MapQuest (US overall/free #1) and bilibili (JP entertainment/free #2).
3. By Tier
top (1–10) is stable, with 84% held, 2% new, and an average |Δ| of 3.2. The mid tier is 79%/7%/7.3, while the bottom tier (51–100) concentrates churn at 68% held, 20% new, and |Δ| 10.2. Google holds 106 top slots and Microsoft 31, showing that a small number of companies dominate top-tier placement.
4. By Country
All 468 charts can be compared with the prior run. The US has the most stable top 10, with 89% retained, while KR at 80% and HR at 81% are the most fluid. HR had the most new entries at 1,151, and JP the fewest at 851. TestFlight and Minecraft, along with Duolingo (grossing), were top-10 hits in all six markets.
5. By Category
ios-sports and ios-developer-tools saw the most turnover, each retaining 78% of their top 10. New inflows were especially high in ios-utilities at 358 and ios-music at 352. In contrast, ios-social-networking at 90% and ios-photo-video at 89% barely moved, while ios-shopping had the fewest new entries at 85.
Key Findings
1. Wild Water World hits #1 in JP and KR ios-games/free on the same day, also lands at #44 in GB
Wild Water World by Hong Kong Just Game Technology Limited was absent on 2026-09-01, then appeared today at #1 in JP and KR and #44 in GB in ios-games/free. It is the only new entry in today’s full archive to take first place in the Japanese and Korean markets simultaneously, making it the earliest and strongest sign of a new East Asian game wave. ios-games is normally difficult to dislodge, with 87% top-10 retention, so a new title taking its top spot is significant.
Confidence: High
2. Watch Tower Pro simultaneously breaks through paid utilities and overall paid charts in three Western markets
Watch Tower Pro by Blackfox Media LLC debuted at #2 in GB and US and #4 in DE in ios-utilities/paid. It also entered overall/paid at #39 in GB, #50 in US, and #88 in DE. Entering both a leading category position and the overall chart on the same day points to cross-market demand taking hold rather than isolated exposure. ios-utilities had 358 new entries, the highest of any category, making paid utilities today’s most open entry point.
Confidence: High
3. Paid music-learning and performance-support apps debut simultaneously in four markets
play_music_theory (TALA RAE SCHLOSSBERG) debuted in ios-music/paid at #2 in GB and US, #5 in JP, and #11 in DE. It was followed in the category by Amazing Slow Downer at #26 in GB, #47 in DE, and #55 in JP; Retro Keys at #40 in DE, #80 in GB, and #97 in US; and Set List Maker, a new #3 entry in HR. With 352 new entries, ios-music ranks second only to utilities, making music production and practice tools the most active area in today’s paid charts.
Confidence: High
4. Rain Radar Pro debuts in paid weather charts across five markets—the day’s broadest geographic rollout
DeluxeWare’s Rain Radar Pro debuted in ios-weather/paid at #14 in KR, #23 in HR, #40 in DE and JP, and #48 in GB. All placements are mid-tier, but appearing in five of the six tracked markets at once is the broadest reach among today’s new entries. Separately, Kazamidori-kun debuted at #2 in JP, creating a pattern in which only the lower and middle tiers of the weather category (86% top-10 retention) are moving.
Confidence: High
5. Google Authenticator rises sharply to #7 in JP overall/free, up 70 positions from nine days earlier
Google Authenticator debuted in overall/free at #7 in JP, #28 in GB, and #69 in KR, while also recording a gain of 70 places in JP versus the 2026-08-24 reference date. Demand for authentication and security tools likely surged unexpectedly in Japan, making adjacent coverage—such as passkeys and two-factor authentication explainers—worth publishing today. Note, however, that the reference period is only nine days and is not a true monthly comparison.
Confidence: Medium
6. Gains over the period are entirely concentrated in JP and US; DE, GB, HR, and KR have zero
Only JP and US appear in the gain list versus the 2026-08-24 reference date, nine days prior; DE, GB, HR, and KR show “—” in the monthly-gains column. Japan clusters around paid lifestyle apps, including Feng Shui Diagnosis: Xuan Kong Flying Star Feng Shui at #7 (+89), Photos 365 at #16 (+84), and Min Habit at #3 (+81). The US includes Prolost Watches at #16 (+78), Bilt Rewards at #22 (+77), and imo live at #17 (+75). Time-based coverage is most efficiently focused on paid lifestyle apps in JP and finance/social apps in the US.
Confidence: Medium
7. The head is stable while the tail churns: top tier is 84% held with |Δ| 3.2; bottom tier is 68% held, 20% new, with |Δ| 10.2
Positions 1–10 were highly stable: 84% stayed in the same tier as the prior run, only 2% were new, and the average move was 3.2 positions. Positions 51–100 retained 68%, with 20% new entries and an average move of 10.2 positions—more than three times as much movement. To discover new titles, review the 51–100 range daily; weekly monitoring is sufficient for the top 10. Google holds 106 top slots and Microsoft 31, so today’s examples of new apps breaking into the top tier—Wild Water World and Watch Tower Pro—are exceptionally strong signals.
Confidence: High
8. The US is the most stable (89% top-10 retention), while HR has the most churn (1,151 new entries and 81% retention)
Top-10 retention ranks US at 89% > DE/GB at 85% > JP at 84% > HR at 81% > KR at 80%. HR had the most new entries at 1,151, while JP had the fewest at 851. In HR, Cosyra - AI Coding Terminal debuted at #1 in ios-developer-tools/grossing and Calibre Sync at #2 in ios-utilities/paid, showing that new apps can reach the top more easily in smaller markets. Target HR and KR for test exposure; use the US as the benchmark for measuring sustained adoption.
Confidence: High
9. Established top-10 apps in all six markets: TestFlight, Minecraft, and Duolingo (grossing)
TestFlight is #1 in ios-developer-tools/free across DE, GB, HR, JP, KR, and US. Minecraft is #1 in ios-games/paid in all six markets, and Duolingo is #1 in ios-education/grossing in all six. Microsoft Teams is also #1 in ios-business/free in DE, GB, JP, and US, #3 in HR, and #4 in KR. These titles show little market variation, making them weak topics for comparative articles. The differences instead come from country-specific new entries, such as Verloso #3 in DE, 위프 #3 in KR, and Watermelon Maestro #1 in JP.
Confidence: High
10. ios-sports and ios-developer-tools saw the most churn (78% retention); ios-social-networking saw the least movement (90%)
The lowest top-10 retention was 78% in ios-sports and ios-developer-tools. New sports entries include Taekwondo Punkte Timer2026 at #2 in KR, All Sport DB Live at #3 in HR, and Dry Fire Timer at #4 in the US; RacquetTune also rose to #17 in GB (+83). In developer tools, the top spot changed in three markets: Edit HTTP Headers for Safari #1 in DE, SSHHEE #1 in KR, and Cosyra #1 in HR. By contrast, ios-social-networking at 90%, ios-photo-video at 89%, and ios-magazines-newspapers at 88% remained largely unchanged, making them low-priority categories for finding new entries.
Confidence: High
11. Genshin Impact “re-enters” games/grossing in three markets—distinguish returns from launches
Genshin Impact (COGNOSPHERE PTE. LTD.) is counted as a new entry in ios-games/grossing at #27 in HR, #42 in DE, and #63 in GB. As an established major title, this should be read not as a launch but as a return from outside the prior chart range, perhaps driven by an in-game purchase event. Songkick Concerts (GB #24, HR #31, DE #52) is likewise an existing app resurfacing. Do not treat the “new entries” column as a list of new launches.
Confidence: Medium
Recommended Actions
- Prioritize tracking Wild Water World (JP #1 / KR #1 / GB #44, ios-games/free). Simultaneous first place in Japan and Korea is today’s only example; confirm whether it holds tomorrow, while beginning gameplay-video and first-day review coverage today.
- Make Watch Tower Pro (GB #2 / US #2 / DE #4, also in overall/paid across all three markets) the lead story for paid utilities. ios-utilities had 358 new entries, the highest total of any category, making it the most open entry point.
- Build a music-learning and performance-support feature. Center it on play_music_theory (GB #2 / US #2 / JP #5 / DE #11), then group Amazing Slow Downer, Retro Keys, and Set List Maker (HR #3) to capture ios-music’s 352 new entries in one piece.
- For Japan, prioritize Google Authenticator (overall/free #7, +70), Station Navi #2 (+87), and Fever: Events & Tickets #4 (+86). JP’s gains are concentrated in paid lifestyle apps—Feng Shui Diagnosis +89, Photos 365 +84, and Min Habit +81—so a feature on practical and fortune-telling paid apps is likely to perform well.
- Focus daily new-title discovery on the 51–100 range (68% held, 20% new, |Δ| 10.2), and shift top-10 monitoring (84% held, 2% new) to a weekly cadence.
- Rebalance category coverage: devote reporting to ios-sports and ios-developer-tools (78% retention), while limiting ios-social-networking (90%), ios-photo-video (89%), and ios-shopping (85 new entries) to regular monitoring.
- Establish an operating rule not to use “new entries” as a launch list. Existing apps such as Genshin Impact (grossing in three markets) and Songkick Concerts are mixed in, so verify whether each app is a first appearance or a resurgence before turning it into coverage.
- While the reference date remains 2026-08-24, nine days ago, avoid calling this a “monthly” comparison even in internal materials; label it explicitly as a “nine-day comparison.” True monthly comparisons will be possible from 2026-09-24 onward; until then, treat conclusions from period comparisons as provisional.
Data Quality Notes
Collection was complete: all 468 charts scheduled for 2026-09-02 were collected, with zero missing, and 45,718 rows were analyzed. All 468 / 468 charts can be compared with the previous run on 2026-09-01; none were unavailable for comparison. Therefore, “new entries” are genuine replacements where the prior chart exists, and do not include apparent new entries caused by missing comparison data. There are two limitations. (1) The monthly reference date, 2026-08-24, is the oldest collection date in the archive and is only nine days before today. Changes in the table represent “nine-day movement,” not a full month, and cannot be used to judge seasonality or monthly cycles. Empty monthly-gain fields for DE, GB, HR, and KR do not mean there was no movement; they mean no gain exceeding the threshold was recorded within this short reference period. (2) rating is missing for 228,593 records, so today it is not possible to compare rank movement against ratings or review counts. Defer judgments that require qualitative support beyond rank. The scope is also limited to six App Store markets (DE, GB, HR, JP, KR, US) and 26 categories; it cannot be generalized to other markets.
