KEN’S CAT LOG

Daily Google Play Report 2026-09-03

Today’s biggest movement was in HR’s android-video-players category, where most of the 30 new entries across the category—the highest total of any category—were concentrated. PLAYit debuted the same day at HR #6 and DE #45, while IPTV Online Player: Live TV, absent from the baseline, ranked highly across three markets at HR #2 / DE #5 / GB #6. Video playback, downloading, and IPTV are the areas to build for today.

1. New Entries

Only three apps appeared in multiple countries on the same day, led by PLAYit-All in One Video Player (HR #6 / DE #45, video-players free). The others were Dog Digital Watch Face: Pixel (GB #37 / DE #38) and Fitify (DE #40 / GB #44, health grossing). In single markets, HR/android-video-players/TOP_FREE saw a simultaneous influx of video editing and download apps, including EasyCut #11, Video downloader #14, Mivi #17, mAst Lite #19, and Wink #20. In KR, utility apps debuted high in the rankings: 실손24 at finance free #4 and 모바일 출입증 at business free #8. In DE, Qustodio ranked #5 in parenting grossing.

2. Sharp Gains Since the Baseline

The baseline date is 2026-08-26, just eight days ago and the oldest available archive date. Note that this is not a monthly comparison, but a comparison over just over one week. The largest gains were House Cleaning: ASMR Makeover (HR game free #8, +37), Hero Siege: Pocket Edition (KR game paid #9, +30), and TimeCue (US productivity free #9, +27). Pro IPTV grew in two markets: GB #18(+27) and DE #11(+26). Apps absent from the baseline but now inside the top 20 include Clash of Critters (KR game free #1) and IPTV Online Player: Live TV (HR #2 / DE #5 / GB #6).

3. By Tier

The top tier (1–10) is nearly fixed, with 99% held / 0% new / |Δ| 0.1. The middle tier has 98% held / |Δ| 0.3, while the bottom tier (31–45) is the only moving layer, at 96% held / 2% new / |Δ| 0.4. New entries effectively come only from the lower tier.

4. By Country

New entries were led by HR with 40 (across 62 charts), followed by US 29, DE 27, GB 22, JP 18, and KR 15. Meanwhile, top-10 retention was 99–100% across every market (JP 100%). Common hits in the top 10 across all six markets include WhatsApp, Canva, Duolingo, ChatGPT, Spotify, and Tinder. Local flavor is strongest in KR (실손24, 이마트24, Berriz) and JP (エディオン, 楽天家計簿, Rakuten TV).

5. By Category

android-video-players stood out with 30 new entries across 14 charts. It was followed by health-and-fitness with 9, education with 8, lifestyle with 8, and communication with 7. beauty, comics, and libraries-and-demo had zero new entries and were completely static. sports and food-and-drink had the lowest top-10 retention, at 97%.

Key Findings

1. HR’s android-video-players category saw the largest overnight reshuffle, with more than 10 video download and editing apps entering at once

android-video-players had 30 new entries across the category, the most among all 35 categories and far ahead of runner-up health-and-fitness with 9. Most were concentrated in HR’s TOP_FREE chart: PLAYit #6, EasyCut #11, Video downloader #14, Mivi #17, mAst Lite #19, Wink #20, Vidow #21, mAst #22, All Video Downloader #28, Video & Music Downloader HD #29, X Sexy Video Downloader #30, and Beat.ly #31. This is not the story of a single app; the chart itself has effectively been replaced, signaling that demand for video consumption and saving in the HR market is opening up right now.

Confidence: High

2. IPTV is taking off simultaneously across three European markets — IPTV Online Player is HR #2 / DE #5 / GB #6, while Pro IPTV gained +27/+26

IPTV Online Player: Live TV was absent from the 2026-08-26 baseline charts, yet today ranks high in all three markets: HR #2, DE #5, and GB #6. Over the same eight days, Pro IPTV: Online & Live Player also grew to GB #18(+27) and DE #11(+26). A synchronized movement across markets is difficult to explain as noise in a single chart, indicating that European demand for live TV viewing is expanding rapidly in the short term. If building a video-player offering, the IPTV/live TV angle has the highest repeatability.

Confidence: High

3. Only three apps debuted in multiple countries on the same day, with PLAYit the highest-ranked at HR #6 / DE #45

Only three apps appeared in two or more markets on the same day: PLAYit-All in One Video Player (android-video-players/free: HR #6, DE #45), Dog Digital Watch Face: Pixel (android-watch-face/free: GB #37, DE #38), and Fitify (android-health-and-fitness/grossing: DE #40, GB #44). PLAYit was the only one to break into a high rank; the other two remained in the lower tier at #37 or below. In practical terms, PLAYit is the only simultaneous-breakout signal worth tracking today.

Confidence: High

4. The 2026-08-26 baseline is only eight days old — it should be read as a comparison over just over one week, not monthly

The oldest archive date is 2026-08-26, so there is not yet a full month of history. Accordingly, the +37 and +30 figures in the “monthly gains” section reflect eight-day changes, not monthly trends. The biggest gains in this period were House Cleaning: ASMR Makeover (HR/android-game/free #8, +37), Hero Siege: Pocket Edition (KR/android-game/paid #9, +30), and TimeCue (US/android-productivity/free #9, +27). These are short-term spikes, so any product decision based on them should assume a recheck in a few days.

Confidence: High

5. The top ranks are completely fixed; only ranks 31–45 move — entry opportunities exist only in the lower tier

top(1–10) is nearly static, with 99% held, 0% new, and an average movement of 0.1. mid(11–30) has 98% held, 0% new, and |Δ| 0.3. Only bottom(31–45) has 96% held, 2% new, and |Δ| 0.4, making it the sole tier where new rows actually occur. In other words, apps entering today’s charts are fundamentally entering from the lower tier, while the top 10 remains occupied by existing titles. The initial target for a new project should be “reach ranks 31–45,” not “reach the top 10.” This tier analysis also found no evidence of a specific developer monopolizing the top ranks, because developer names are extensively missing.

Confidence: High

6. HR leads with 40 new entries, while KR has the fewest at 15 — but top-10 retention is 99–100% in every market

HR, with 62 charts, had the most new entries at 40, followed by US 29 (90 charts), DE 27 (64), GB 22 (78), JP 18 (72), and KR 15 (70). Adjusted for the number of charts, turnover in HR is several times higher than in other markets. Yet top-10 retention is 99% in DE/GB/HR/KR/US and 100% in JP, meaning the top ranks are not moving in any market. HR is well suited as a test-launch market: easier to enter, but harder to reach the top.

Confidence: High

7. Fifteen global mainstays rank in the top 10 across all six markets — everyday infrastructure apps dominate

WhatsApp (android-communication/free: DE#1 GB#1 HR#1 US#1 KR#6 JP#8), Canva (art-and-design/free at #1 in all six markets), ChatGPT (productivity/free: #1 in DE/GB/HR/JP/US, #3 in KR), Duolingo, Spotify, Instagram, Tinder, Uber, ReelShort, GoodNovel, NordVPN, and Flightradar24 are among them. The top of the rankings is controlled by cross-border staples, while market-specific differences appear in local everyday-life and rewards apps such as KR’s 실손24 finance #4, 이마트24 +27, Berriz +27, and JP’s エディオンアプリ +27 and 楽天家計簿 #6 +26. The split is clear: local projects belong on the daily-life journey side, while global projects belong on the tools/entertainment side.

Confidence: High

8. Health, education, and lifestyle show the most turnover after video players, while beauty / comics / libraries-and-demo are completely static with zero new entries

New entries included 9 in android-health-and-fitness (such as InBody+ KR grossing #25 and Fitify DE #40), 8 in android-education (including JP’s もしもし!プリキュアでんわ #24 and Migii JLPT #28), 8 in android-lifestyle, 7 in android-communication, and 6 in android-parenting (including DE’s Qustodio #5 and Screenza #22, plus KR’s Naming King #12). By contrast, android-beauty, android-comics, and android-libraries-and-demo had zero new entries and 100% top-10 retention, with no activity today. android-sports and android-food-and-drink had the lowest top-10 retention at 97%. Product whitespace lies in static categories, while competition is concentrated in active categories.

Confidence: High

9. KR utility apps suddenly appeared at high ranks — 실손24 finance free #4 and 모바일 출입증 business free #8

Although KR had the fewest new entries at 15, the apps that appeared ranked high. 실손24, related to actual-loss insurance, entered android-finance/free at #4 after being absent previously, while 모바일 출입증 entered android-business/free at #8. Over the same eight days, everyday-life and payments apps also rose together: 이마트24 #10(+27), OK캐쉬백 #18(+22), and Gmarket #18(+20). In KR, utility apps tied to systems and daily-life journeys appear able to gain rank quickly in the short term.

Confidence: Medium

10. The US paid-game segment is moving — Tiny Terraces #5(+23), Afterplace #19(+24), Slots & Daggers #8(+19)

Three titles in US/android-game/TOP_PAID gained around 20 places over eight days. While the top of free and grossing charts remains fixed, paid games are functioning as a relatively more rank-fluid segment. KR shows the same pattern: Hero Siege: Pocket Edition reached paid #9(+30), while LIMBO entered paid #4 after being absent from the baseline. At least this week, premium games offer greater visibility opportunities than free slots.

Confidence: Medium

Recommended Actions

  • Launch one validation project for a video-download/simple video-editing app aimed at the HR market. More than 10 apps entered HR/android-video-players/TOP_FREE today alone, making it the chart surface with the lowest entry cost. However, aside from PLAYit (HR #6), all are #11 or below, so the initial goal should be the top 20 rather than the top 10.
  • Track the IPTV/live-TV viewing angle simultaneously across DE, GB, and HR. IPTV Online Player: Live TV moved from absent at the baseline to HR #2 / DE #5 / GB #6, while Pro IPTV gained GB +27 / DE +26—one of the few cases of synchronized movement across three markets.
  • Set the initial KPI for new titles as “reach ranks 31–45.” The top is 99% held / 0% new, and the middle is also 0% new; only the bottom has new entries (2%). Using top-rank attainment as the initial launch metric would classify every project as a failure.
  • Treat KR as a market for targeting position rather than volume. It has the fewest new entries at 15, but 실손24 reached finance free #4 and 모바일 출입증 business free #8. Prioritize utility-app concepts tied to systems and daily-life journeys.
  • Defer decisions based on TOP_PAID / TOP_GROSSING in DE and HR. Both markets have degraded paid and grossing charts in nearly every category, so grossing-side findings such as Qustodio DE #5 need confirmation after re-fetching.
  • Put re-fetching of the 43 uncollected charts and 7 charts not comparable with the previous run into the next execution queue, while also addressing missing developer and ratingCount values (98,806 each). Developer-level concentration cannot currently be evaluated at all.
  • The “monthly gains” heading is misleading while the baseline remains only eight days old. For internal distribution, explicitly label it “vs. 2026-08-26 (8 days)” and continue this note until the archive reaches one month of history.

Data Quality Notes

The collection contains 436 charts / 16,365 rows. Of the 479 configured collection targets, 151 are not published by the source; 43 charts remain uncollected. Of the 436 charts, 429 could be compared with the previous run on 2026-09-02. The remaining 7 had no previous data, so no “new entry” determination was made for them. Because rows from charts without a comparison target were not counted as new, the apparent number of new entries may be understated. The baseline date, 2026-08-26, is eight days before today and is the oldest archive date. Since a full month of history does not yet exist, the “monthly” section is effectively a comparison over just over one week. Of recent runs, 6 completed partially and 32 fetches failed. Degraded sources are heavily concentrated in TOP_PAID / TOP_GROSSING for DE, HR, KR, and GB; DE and HR are affected in paid and grossing charts across nearly all categories. Findings on the paid/grossing side in these markets are therefore less reliable than in other markets. Developer is missing for 98,806 records, ratingCount for 98,806, and rating for 6,178, so this report cannot assess developer-level concentration—such as which developers occupy the top ranks.
