KEN’S CAT LOG

Daily Google Play Report 2026-09-13

New entries were concentrated in HR (agg:country/HR: 125 new entries; 94% top-10 retention). The AI photo/video app Hype AI launched simultaneously in three markets—HR #15, GB #16, and US #37—yet the top 10 remained 94–96% unchanged across all markets. The three areas worth building for are “AI photos, short-form dramas, and learning.”

1. New Entries

The biggest signal is simultaneous launches in multiple countries. Hype AI - AI Photo & Video appeared at HR #15 / GB #16 / US #37, Liquid Lock Screen: KaLock at HR #15 / GB #44 / JP #45, while Genix Art and Nexus - AI Video Generator landed simultaneously in JP and US / JP and DE. Categories skew toward photography, personalization, and art-and-design, forming a clear thread of AI generation × lock-screen customization. In individual markets, [777Real]緑ドン VIVA! debuted at game/free #1 in JP and 280blocker at lifestyle/paid #1, while HR social saw a rapid reshuffle near the top with Moj #7, ShareChat #8, and Bigo Live #9.

2. Sharp Monthly Gains

The baseline date, 2026-08-26, is only 18 days ago and is the earliest date in the archive. This should be read not as a “monthly” change, but as a change over roughly 2.5 weeks. The largest gains were in HR finance/grossing: Splitwise #5 (+38) and TradingView #1 (+36). Apps absent on the baseline date that now rank near the top include Polymarket (US finance/free #1), Photo Editor Video Maker Music (HR #1, DE #2, GB #2), and BlinkDrama (HR #1, GB #2; also GB grossing #10, +34). In education, GB’s Tapestry +31, KR’s LingQuiz +31, and HR’s Fluzy +26 show back-to-school demand working across markets.

3. By Tier

top (1–10) consists of 4,054 slots with 96% retention, 1% new entries, and average movement of 0.5—effectively frozen. Mid is 92%/1%/1.4. Only bottom (31–45) has 84% retention, 10% new entries, and movement of 2, meaning nearly all of today’s activity is happening at the tail. Developer concentration data was not available in today’s aggregation.

4. By Country

HR is the most fluid market, with 125 new entries across 64 charts and 94% top-10 retention; the US has 110 new entries across 90 charts. DE/GB/KR/US all have 96% top-10 retention. Common fixtures are WhatsApp, Canva, Duolingo (education/grossing #1 in all six markets), Spotify, and Kling AI, leaving little room to enter. Strong local characteristics include KR’s 디지털온누리 as a new finance/free #5 entry, PDF apps in JP, and EventPics at DE events/grossing #2.

5. By Category

The categories with the most churn are personalization (45 new entries; 90% top-10 retention) and game (39; 89%). Social has 39 new entries but 96% retention, so only the tail is rotating. In contrast, books-and-reference and house-and-home are nearly static at 99% retention. Photography, art-and-design, and video-players are being lifted by new AI entrants.

Key Findings

1. AI photo/video app Hype AI launched in HR, GB, and US on the same day. AI-generation categories are seeing simultaneous bursts

Hype AI - AI Photo & Video launched simultaneously in android-photography/free at HR #15, GB #16, and US #37, while also rising in DE to #19 (+16) from the previous period. On the same day, Genix Art: AI Art Generator appeared in art-and-design at JP #30 and US #34, while Nexus - AI Video Generator appeared at JP #31 and DE #43. Unlike a launch in a single chart, simultaneous appearances in multiple countries indicate coordinated distribution and ad spending, making this the earliest trend signal observable in today’s data.

Confidence: High

2. HR android-social saw a complete reshuffle near the top. Moj #7, ShareChat #8, and Bigo Live #9 are all new simultaneously

In HR social/free, Moj: Free Short Drama & Reels #7, ShareChat Status, Video & Live #8, Bigo Live #9, Litmatch #13, and Video Downloader - Story Save #14 all appeared as new entries. HR has the highest number of new entries of any market, at 125 across 64 charts, and the lowest top-10 retention at 94%. Because a smaller market’s rankings move more easily, it is the clearest market for reading the response to test launches of short-video and live-streaming services.

Confidence: High

3. Short-form drama BlinkDrama rose from absent on the baseline date to HR #1 and GB #2, plus #10 (+34) in GB monetization

BlinkDrama - Short Dramas was absent on the 2026-08-26 baseline date, but now ranks HR entertainment/free #1 and GB #2, while reaching #10 (+34) in GB entertainment/grossing as well, showing momentum on the revenue side. The incumbent ReelShort also ranks DE #1, HR #2, and GB #3, and is top 10 in six markets. Short-form dramas are active on both the free and monetization fronts. Reaching these positions in only 18 days indicates a fast ramp-up.

Confidence: High

4. The education category is rising across all markets. Back-to-school demand and AI learning apps are both contributing

Compared with the 2026-08-26 baseline (18 days ago), GB Tapestry Education Platform is #5 (+31), KR LingQuiz: AI Language Learning #8 (+31), HR Fluzy: Learn Language with AI #4 (+26), DE cabuu #12 (+23), GB Seesaw #6 (+23), JP LunaSpeak #11 (+21), and KR UnivAI is education/grossing #21 (+22). In HR, Google Classroom rose from absent on the baseline date to #1. Education has a firm top tier, with 98% top-10 retention across 16 charts, but AI tutor-style apps are gaining ground beneath it.

Confidence: High

5. Only the tail is moving: bottom has 84% retention and 10% new entries, while top has 96% retention and average movement of 0.5

top (1–10, 4,054 slots) has 96% retention, 1% new entries, and average movement of 0.5, making it effectively frozen. Mid (11–30, 7,268 slots) is 92%/1%/1.4, while bottom (31–45, 5,200 slots) is 84%/10%/2. The practical entry point for new apps is rank 31 or below, where most of today’s new entries also appeared. Rather than prioritizing concepts aimed at the top ranks, it is more rational to monitor daily breakout signals emerging in the tail. Information on developers occupying the top ranks is not present in today’s aggregation.

Confidence: High

6. Personalization and game have the highest turnover. Personalization has 45 new entries and 90% top-10 retention

android-personalization has 45 new entries across 16 charts and 90% top-10 retention. Game has 39 new entries across 16 charts and 89% retention, the lowest of all categories. In personalization, Liquid Lock Screen: KaLock appeared simultaneously at HR #15, GB #44, and JP #45; Wallpapers HD at HR #17 and DE #45; and Emoji Battery at GB #42 and US #45. In contrast, books-and-reference and house-and-home are static at 99% retention, making customization-oriented concepts the better target.

Confidence: High

7. JP has two new entries at the top rank. 緑ドン VIVA! is game/free #1, while 280blocker is lifestyle/paid #1

In JP, [777Real]緑ドン VIVA!情熱南米編 debuted directly at #1 in android-game/free, and 280blocker directly at #1 in android-lifestyle/paid. In addition, PDF Photos & PDF Reader is productivity/free #3, PDF File Reader #8, and Telegram is android-wear/free #4 and communication/free #9. All 77 charts in JP are comparable with the previous period, so these movements reflect actual turnover rather than collection gaps.

Confidence: High

8. There are 15 top-10 regulars across all markets. Duolingo and Canva rank at the very top of grossing in all six markets

Duolingo is #1 in education/grossing across DE, GB, HR, JP, KR, and US. Canva is #1 in art-and-design/grossing in five markets (KR #2), while Kling AI is #1 in KR and #2 in the other five markets in the same grossing chart. Spotify is #1 in music/grossing in four markets. WhatsApp, Teams, Uber, Tinder, Fever, GoodNovel, and ReelShort are also top 10 in multiple markets. These categories’ top slots are effectively filled, so new concepts need a distinct angle even within the same category.

Confidence: High

9. Polymarket rose from absent on the baseline date to #1 in US finance/free. With 110 new entries, the US is the second-most fluid market after HR

Polymarket was absent on the 2026-08-26 baseline date, but now ranks #1 in US android-finance/free. Elsewhere in the US, TimeCue – Reminders & Alerts is productivity/free #4 (+32), PDF Reader, PDF Viewer #6 (+19), and Smash Land! game/free #15 (+27). All 90 US charts are comparable, with 110 new entries and 96% top-10 retention. Practical apps spanning prediction markets, reminders, and PDFs are rising at the same time.

Confidence: Medium

10. HR finance/grossing changed dramatically in 18 days. Splitwise +38, TradingView +36, Kraken +23

In HR android-finance/grossing, Splitwise is #5 (+38), TradingView #1 (+36), Kraken #6 (+23), and Finanzguru rose from absent on the baseline date to #2. Finance is generally stable, with 98% top-10 retention across 12 charts, but HR’s monetization ranking alone is close to a complete reshuffle. Note, however, that degraded collection has been reported across multiple TOP_GROSSING categories in HR. Finance itself is not on the degradation list, but only 63 of 64 market-wide charts are comparable.

Confidence: Medium

Recommended Actions

  • Prioritize AI photo and video generation concepts. Hype AI (HR #15 / GB #16 / US #37), Genix Art (JP #30 / US #34), and Nexus - AI Video Generator (JP #31 / DE #43) entered multiple countries on the same day. Track their rank movements individually from tomorrow onward to determine whether this is a genuine ramp-up or a temporary spike.
  • Monitor HR as a leading-indicator market for short video and live-streaming. It is the most active market, with 125 new entries across 64 charts and 94% top-10 retention, so signals may appear several days earlier than in other markets. Check tomorrow whether Moj, ShareChat, and Bigo Live’s high positions in HR social persist.
  • Address short-form drama on both free and monetization fronts. BlinkDrama reached HR #1 and GB #2 in 18 days, and also GB grossing #10 (+34). Prepare materials comparing its differentiation from existing players ReelShort and GoodNovel by language, episode length, and monetization flow.
  • Release education content aligned with the back-to-school period this week. GB Tapestry +31, KR LingQuiz +31, HR Fluzy +26, and DE cabuu +23 are rising across markets. In particular, AI conversation and AI tutor models (LunaSpeak JP #11, UnivAI KR grossing #21) are also spilling over to monetization.
  • Lower the priority of concepts targeting the top 10. The top tier is nearly fixed, with 96% retention and average movement of 0.5; the entry point for new apps is bottom (31–45), with 84% retention and 10% new entries. Shift to an operating model that identifies new entrants around rank 31 daily and investigates only apps that rise for two to three consecutive days.
  • Fix TOP_GROSSING / TOP_PAID collection failures first. Most degraded sources are concentrated in these two chart types, where the evidence for judging revenue signals is thinnest. Also prioritize re-collecting the 31 missing charts and filling developer / ratingCount gaps (97,482 records each).
  • Make baseline-date handling explicit in operations. The current baseline, 2026-08-26, is only 18 days ago and is the earliest archived date. If using the label “monthly,” switch after 2026-09-26; until then, state clearly in internal sharing that it is a “roughly 2.5-week comparison.”

Data Quality Notes

For the target date, 2026-09-13, 445 charts / 16,522 rows were collected. Against the configured total of 476 charts (excluding 154 unpublished sources), 31 charts were missing. Of the 445 charts, 421 could be compared with the previous day, 2026-09-12. Rows from the 24 charts that could not be compared were not counted as “new entries” (because movement cannot be defined for charts with no previous record, and new entries must not be inferred from them). By market, only 58 of 63 DE charts, 62 of 74 KR charts, and 71 of 77 GB charts could be compared with the previous day; all charts in JP and US were comparable. The 2026-08-26 baseline date is the earliest archived collection date and only 18 days ago, so it does not yet represent a full month for a “monthly” comparison. Of recent runs, 6 completed partially and 36 fetches failed. Degraded sources are heavily concentrated in TOP_GROSSING and TOP_PAID: 17 categories in DE, 29 in GB, 19 in KR, 15 in JP, 15 in HR, and 11 in US. Therefore, paid and grossing ranking figures are one level less reliable than free-ranking figures. Attribute gaps include 97,482 missing developer values, 97,482 missing ratingCount values, and 5,991 missing rating values. This is why this report does not list developer names (and why developers occupying the top tiers could not be calculated).
