Daily Viral Video — 2026-09-14
Today, rather than brand-new viral videos themselves, follow-ups to incidents, controversy-driven drama, and event live-commentary spread prominently across social platforms. Only YouTube and Bluesky met the target of finding 10 videos across five platforms.
Today's Viral Video Roundup — 2026-09-14
In short, today was less a day when “a new video itself exploded” and more a day when “what happened next” and “reactions” took off. On Reddit and YouTube, deleted videos, collaboration controversies, and the unfolding drama of a 24-hour livestream drew the most comments. On X, breaking-text posts and essays vastly outperformed video. Bluesky was primarily a place for linking to and discussing videos that went viral elsewhere, while Lemmy barely has a culture of following viral videos at all. Of the five platforms, only YouTube and Bluesky came close to cleanly assembling 10 newly viral videos from the last 24–48 hours; the others struggled with out-of-range dates and search mismatches.
Across platforms
- “What happened afterward” performs better than the video itself. Reddit's most-commented posts involved deleted videos (such as a video reaching an ex-boyfriend and causing a wedding to be called off) and controversy-to-apology storylines. On YouTube, Daisuke Hori's 24-hour sleep challenge has become an episodic drama of a snoring incident, video deletion, apology, and protest, amplifying its virality. Formats where the story keeps evolving are stronger than one-off funny clips.
- The “official announcement → internet reaction” pattern appeared on multiple platforms. YouTube's vote for Suica's new character is the clearest example: after JR East's announcement, clips and reaction videos proliferated. The structure in which news footage sparks derivative reaction content resembles the dynamic around Chinese news clips on Reddit.
- “Live commentary → instant spread” is especially strong for event videos. On X, multiple accounts reacted to the same F1 pole-position moment within minutes of one another, and the same happened with Big Brother (#bb28) competition scenes. Clips from live events gain momentum when multiple witnesses post at once.
- Nostalgia and retro videos get mixed in with posts presenting themselves as “viral videos.” On Bluesky, projects about “videos that went viral before YouTube” (such as the Windows 95 launch dance) and a 1994 Guinness commercial appeared alongside videos newly going viral today. The word “viral” is being used both for “going viral today” and “was viral long ago,” so context matters.
- Verification and debunking have become a viral genre of their own. Posts checking whether a viral video is real—such as Full Fact's verification of a Zuckerberg deepfake on Bluesky—also receive meaningful engagement.
- Japanese search terms (バズってる動画 / 話題の動画) did not work well on any platform. Reddit and Bluesky returned mostly unrelated results, while Lemmy had none. YouTube was the only platform where Japanese-language search worked reliably.
Platform by platform
Reddit — Discussion concentrated less around “videos going viral” than around India-based news videos: stories of videos reaching the people involved and leading to broken engagements, controversy, or eyewitness footage of killings. Five of the 12 threads came from India-focused subreddits. Links to the videos themselves and view counts were generally unavailable; only post scores and comment counts could be observed, which is a structural limitation. Only two threads cleanly fit the last 24–48 hours; the rest were somewhat older items from September 8–11.
X — Ironically, this collection came from searching the 10 Explore trends (Lando, Dario, #bb28, and so on), rather than directly targeting “viral video.” By far the largest post was Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's long essay (84,230 likes and roughly 67 million views), which was not a video at all. Video-like material was limited to several F1 (Lando Norris) and Big Brother (#bb28) live-commentary clips, falling far short of 10 videos. The trend list was also geolocated to a Croatian connection, so it should be interpreted with that caveat.
YouTube — The only platform today where Japanese-language video virality was clearly visible. Daisuke Hori, who claims to sleep only 30 minutes per day, turned a weeklong livestream into a controversy-driven drama after a “falling asleep” incident during a collaboration with a beauty chiropractor, followed by video deletion and an apology. JR East's vote for a new Suica character also performed through the official-announcement-plus-reaction-video format. However, many view counts came not from YouTube itself but from secondary sources such as yutura.net, news articles, and userlocal; 8 of 10 videos could be confirmed, including one deleted video.
Bluesky — More a place for introducing and discussing videos that went viral elsewhere than for producing viral videos itself. News and political clips (multiple Trump-related topics and verification of a Zuckerberg deepfake) and heartwarming animal videos dominated; there were almost no newly viral TikTok-style dance or challenge videos. Ten examples were collected, but two were nostalgia items rather than videos newly viral today, and even the largest post had only 124 likes. No Japanese-language live-commentary or roundup accounts were found.
Lemmy — The thinnest of the five platforms. Communities that might otherwise be relevant—such as !videos, !nextfuckinglevel, !publicfreakout, and !tiktokcringe—were either low-activity or locked. Only three videos were found against the target of 10: kitchen cockroach footage, Ukrainian drone footage, and Gaza footage. All were videos as elements of political or war news, and there is almost no culture of tracking entertainment-oriented viral videos. Japanese content was nonexistent.
What to watch
- Daisuke Hori's “30 minutes of sleep a day challenge” — The 24-hour livestream is still underway. The continuing drama of the snoring incident, deleted video, and apology is likely to develop further (YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/live/WVdKrp5ZYUs).
- JR East's vote for a new Suica character — The back-and-forth between the official announcement and internet reactions is likely to continue (YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kuY5Yke62Q).
- Dario Amodei's AI-slowdown essay — Not a video, but it generated outsized engagement on X, and related explainers and rebuttals may continue to grow (X: https://x.com/DarioAmodei/status/2098773920774074715).
- The Zuckerberg deepfake-video controversy — Full Fact has already verified it, but the misinformation video itself may continue to recirculate (Bluesky: https://fullfact.org/environment/mark-zuckerberg-water-shortage-fake).
- r/MechanicalPandey's “video reached the ex-boyfriend and the wedding was called off” thread — The aftermath of the deleted video may spread further (Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalPandey/comments/1wbhe4i/).
Recommendations
- To track “videos that went viral today” across platforms, read metrics with the understanding that, outside YouTube and X, video is usually mixed in as part of broader conversation rather than being the platform's primary focus.
- For continued research on X, search again using video-specific terms such as “viral video” and “went viral,” rather than relying on trend-word searches.
- To obtain accurate YouTube view counts, use the official API or an environment that can bypass regional consent screens.
- Lemmy offers poor return on effort as a source for ongoing viral-video monitoring; in future, consider limiting it to a quick check or removing it from scope.
- On Bluesky, always distinguish newly viral content from reposted nostalgia content based on the post's context before citing it.
- If tracking Japanese-language viral video, allocate effort with the understanding that YouTube currently has the best yield, while Japanese searches on Reddit, Bluesky, and Lemmy have poor return on effort.
Data quality
YouTube captured meaningful Japanese-language viral activity, but accurate view counts came through secondary sources rather than YouTube itself because of regional consent screens and unexecuted JavaScript rendering. X used a substitute collection method via trend words rather than a direct search for “viral videos”; whether posts were videos was also inferred from their text, and results were geographically skewed toward a Croatian connection. Reddit provides post scores and comment counts but makes video view counts almost impossible to obtain; when limited to the last 24–48 hours, only two threads remain. Bluesky produced 10 examples, but engagement was small to begin with and actual video view counts were unknown. Lemmy yielded only three of the requested 10, mainly because the platform has almost no culture of tracking viral video.

India-focused subs (TwentiesofIndia, 20sIndiaReal, MechanicalPandey, RealTeensIndia, and IndianTeenagers) account for five of the 12 threads, so Reddit's “viral video” discussion today appears strongly driven by India-based news videos.
What people say
- Thread 1, “22 year old gets murdered just because she talked to a stranger in a viral video” (r/TwentiesofIndia, 284 points, 17 comments, 2026-09-13) https://www.reddit.com/r/TwentiesofIndia/comments/1wexzav/ … The same incident also appeared in thread 10 (r/RealTeensIndia, 836 points, 72 comments, 2026-09-13) https://www.reddit.com/r/RealTeensIndia/comments/1weyfw1/ . Both are dated September 13, so this was genuinely recent. However, comments focused less on the video itself than on arguments over religion and honor killings. The tone was extremely heavy, with u/Sweet_Explorer_225 writing, “Add to it the most painful death, smashing head with hammer.”
- Thread 2, “More video of Hindutva Aunty viral. She is pathetic. Just to impose vegetarianism she is doing this” (r/20sIndiaReal, 893 points, 543 comments, 2026-09-11) https://www.reddit.com/r/20sIndiaReal/comments/1wdoleh/ … Its 542 comments were overwhelmingly the highest in the collection. u/PookieHoneyBee (72) added the follow-up, “She called the Police and herself got arrested,” showing that it is viral not merely as a standalone video, but as an ongoing story.
- Thread 6, “This video reached the groom, and he called off the marriage.” (r/MechanicalPandey, 3,826 points, 1,377 comments, 2026-09-09) https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalPandey/comments/1wbhe4i/ … This had the highest score and comment count in the collection. The original poster had already deleted the original video (“Even account is not present now”), making this a case where a removed video instead expanded the discussion. u/Practical-Hornet-456's “Smashing the patriarchy lol” was among the highly supported comments.
- Thread 8, “Thoughts on the "Thoughts on" trend?” (r/DCU_, 2,310 points, 96 comments, 2026-09-09) https://www.reddit.com/r/DCU_/comments/1wbu3zf/ … This is not video news, but an example of a meme format itself going viral. u/IlSignorGranchio (69) wrote, “especially when people use it to make edits without using AI, so i approve it,” reflecting the current appreciation for handmade, non-AI edits.
- Thread 5, “i finnaly went viral..” (r/YouTubeCreators, 129 points, 27 comments, 2026-09-08) https://www.reddit.com/r/YouTubeCreators/comments/1wawkj5/ … The creator self-reported that, after three years of grinding and 200,000 views, they received 5 million views in four days, with 69.8% retention and a 3.8% CTR. It is a rare thread offering raw creator-side viral metrics.
- Thread 7, “Still The Legendary Clip” (r/SamayRaina, 1,080 points, 5 comments, 2026-09-09) https://www.reddit.com/r/SamayRaina/comments/1wbizj8/ … A past highlight clip going viral again rather than new material. Although u/choibeomgyuu (17) noted “samays hand was bleeding,” its comment count was low while its score was high, suggesting that even old clips can surge once deemed “legendary.”
- Thread 9, “The viral Chinese trend of young couples sharing their before-and-after videos of their new properties” (r/NewsWithJingjing, 487 points, 22 comments, 2026-09-11) https://www.reddit.com/r/NewsWithJingjing/comments/1wdifrf/ … A trend of young Chinese couples posting before-and-after videos of their new homes. Comments such as u/PaulWesterberg84's (58) “ahh a society that actually cares about its young, how refreshing” performed better than discussion of the video itself, shifting toward social comparison over why young people in China can buy homes.
- Thread 3, “Somebody tell me where the original clip of this video is” (r/HelpMeFindThis, 49 points, 5 comments, 2026-09-09) https://www.reddit.com/r/HelpMeFindThis/comments/1wbz1fb/ … A joke video in which a saxophone-like sound is actually fireworks exploding. u/Polar_dare84 (8) revealed the source, showing that audio-meme virality can still outrun efforts to identify the original.
- Thread 11, “That's why beti padhao is important” (r/IndianTeenagers, 29 points, 26 comments, 2026-09-12) https://www.reddit.com/r/IndianTeenagers/comments/1we85zf/ … The video shows a woman freezing up when asked to answer in front of a camera, but u/Racer125678 (1) said “Bhai kitna scripted hai” (“This looks so scripted”), showing suspicion that a viral video may actually be staged.
- Thread 12, “Halvin - Conversation Videos (Nintendo Today)” (r/fireemblem, 196 points, 59 comments, 2026-09-11) https://www.reddit.com/r/fireemblem/comments/1wdef76/ … A fandom-specific topic about differences in character performances between English and Japanese versions of Nintendo Today videos, discussed by users including u/SatisfactionNo3524. It is an example of a dense video discussion limited to game fans rather than a general-audience viral hit.
Signals
- What is growing: Deleted videos and videos that reached the people involved (threads 2 and 6) generate the most comments; reactions to “what happened next,” more than the video itself, make the viral moment larger. Handmade meme formats without AI editing, such as thread 8's “Thoughts on” trend, are also well received.
- What viewers are skeptical of: While thread 11 describes itself as viral, users such as u/Racer125678 identify it as “scripted,” indicating strong skepticism toward staged content. Thread 4 (r/rusAskReddit, “Какое видео на YouTube самое интересное?”) is not about a currently viral video at all; it is a standing question asking which YouTube video users like best, merely an irrelevant hit for the Japanese search term 話題の動画.
- Unexpected point: The same killing incident appeared in thread 1 and thread 10 on nearly the same day, but thread 1's comments became entirely a religious argument while thread 10's most-upvoted response was the single sarcastic phrase “Peaceful community.” Search-language and result-language also frequently failed to align: searching for 話題の動画 returned Russian-language and Fire Emblem threads, suggesting Reddit search matches across languages.
Limits
- No unique thread matched the standalone search phrase “バズってる動画.” All 12 collected threads were found through one of “went viral,” “viral video,” “viral clip,” or 話題の動画.
- Thread dates range from 2026-09-08 to 2026-09-13. Only threads 1 and 10, dated September 13, clearly fit the brief's last-24-to-48-hour window of September 12–14; the others may be out of range. A fresher search would be needed to narrow this properly.
- Thread 4 (r/rusAskReddit) has neither a video link nor view count and is a general question outside the core topic of “videos going viral today.” Thread 5 is the only one with a video URL or view count, and even that number is self-reported by the creator. For other threads, only Reddit score and comment counts are available; source-video views and likes do not appear in Reddit data.
- The collection is limited to 12 threads across 12 subreddits, one per subreddit, so it does not indicate how much other discussion existed in each community.
X
X — Today's X was driven by live current-events trends, not “viral videos”
To start with the conclusion: few of the X posts gathered this time really felt like “a video going viral.” The source material was 40 posts found by searching each of 10 Explore trends (Lando / Lmeow / Slack / Ireland / Company OS / Dario / China / #bb28 / Source / Solbiscuit). Moreover, most appeared as “Trending in Croatia” because the Explore list was geolocated to the connection server in Croatia. Read this not as global video trends, but as a snapshot of X visible from that connection.
Accounts
- @DarioAmodei (Dario Amodei, Anthropic CEO) was overwhelmingly ahead. A single post received 84,230 likes, 25,608 reposts, 9,440 replies, and roughly 67 million views (post). It is a long essay arguing that AI development should slow down, a typical case where one post dwarfs an account's total likes.
- @BrianRoemmele (Brian Roemmele) was a steady, smaller-scale performer with 1,064 total likes across two posts: one encouraging Chinese-language learning and another short AI-related reaction.
- @accuney had only 3 total likes across two posts, generating little response despite repeatedly posting Solana/Solbiscuit-related memes.
- F1-related posts about Lando Norris came from four accounts—@ln4norris, @littlenorriz, @EstagiariodaF1, and @2H4NDS—with one post each. They were the “one-off but powerful” kind of posts, drawing tens of thousands of views through race updates and fan commentary.
- Big Brother (#bb28) had one post each from @GanzgangK, @joeyseras, @SelfEvicted_BB, and @itsmyhoh. Each live-commented on a memorable scene or clip from the show, receiving roughly 10,000 to 70,000 views.
Posts
1. @ln4norris (ray) — F1, apparently with video
- 11,907 likes, 3,034 reposts, 34 replies, roughly 107,000 views, 2026-09-12
- https://x.com/ln4norris/status/2098789173553455289
- “MISSES A WHOLE FP SESSION AND IS ON POLE. WORLD CHAMPION LANDO NORRIS!!!!”
- Live commentary on winning pole despite missing an entire practice session. It is an image post that may be connected to qualifying-lap footage or highlights, but it cannot be confirmed whether the post itself is a video (see Limits below).
2. @EstagiariodaF1 (Estagiário da F1) — F1, likewise lap commentary
- 1,757 likes, 182 reposts, 40 replies, roughly 87,000 views, 2026-09-12
- https://x.com/EstagiariodaF1/status/2098789450058699045
- “NEM ANTONELLI NEM RUSSELL LANDO NORRIS TAKES POLE POSITION FOR THE SPANISH GP AFTER AN ABSURD LAP”
- Another immediate reaction to the same pole-position moment. Together with item 1, it shows multiple accounts responding rapidly to the same event.
3. @DarioAmodei (Dario Amodei) — An example of a text essay going viral
- 84,230 likes, 25,608 reposts, 9,440 replies, roughly 67 million views, 2026-09-12
- https://x.com/DarioAmodei/status/2098773920774074715
- “We Must Pace the Frontier: I've written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down...”
- A link post to a long essay, not a video. It was effectively the runaway largest viral item among the 40 posts collected, with view numbers on another scale entirely.
4. @ctgptlb (AGI Lab) — Japanese explanation of the essay above
- 1,331 likes, 374 reposts, 21 replies, roughly 667,000 views, 2026-09-12
- https://x.com/ctgptlb/status/2098917214741254175
- “【速報】Sam、Elon、Darioが「AI開発のペースを落とす」方向で異例の一致。...”
- A thread-format summary of Dario Amodei's item 3 for the Japanese-language community. The original is text-only, but this post also received nearly 670,000 views.
5. @joeyseras (Joey) — Big Brother, clearly a clip
- 2,522 likes, 137 reposts, 10 replies, roughly 51,000 views, 2026-09-13
- https://x.com/joeyseras/status/2098963276348403897
- “#bb28 "This competition is simple, hold up a square for as long as possible" Melody:”
- Commentary on a clip from a competition scene in Big Brother US season 28. The context strongly suggests a clipped segment of the program.
6. @SelfEvicted_BB (LaLa & Taylor's Client) — Big Brother, breaking game-development update
- 1,922 likes, 66 reposts, 22 replies, roughly 76,000 views, 2026-09-12
- https://x.com/SelfEvicted_BB/status/2098812177125695778
- “Taylor was not picked to play in the final 7 veto, if the veto is used she is gonna be the replacement nominee no matter what! #BB28”
- A prediction and breaking update about the show. It shows the fandom reacting immediately to each development.
7. @MAGA_NEWS (WORLD NEWS) — Breaking report on Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland independence declarations
- 3,940 likes, 1,212 reposts, 324 replies, roughly 233,000 views, 2026-09-13
- https://x.com/_MAGA_NEWS_/status/2099076856024871295
- “JUST NOW: In a major development, the leaders of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland...will meet tomorrow at the Cardiff summit to sign a joint declaration for all three countries to gain independence from the United Kingdom.”
- A text-first breaking-news post. It had the most replies in this collection, 324, making it the topic generating the most argument.
8. @Rusia_HD (Russia X) — Breaking report on a new military alliance involving China, Russia, Iran, and others
- 3,800 likes, 850 reposts, 309 replies, roughly 258,000 views, 2026-09-12
- https://x.com/Rusia_HD/status/2098863584344453388
- “BREAKING: China, Russia, north Korea, Iran and other countries plan to form new military alliance like NATO.”
- Another text-first breaking-news post. Geopolitical topics broadly tended to attract views and replies.
9. @lalisamgger (ra ra girl³²⁷) — BLACKPINK Lisa, quoting interview footage
- 3,519 likes, 1,146 reposts, 16 replies, roughly 40,000 views, 2026-09-12
- https://x.com/lalisamgger/status/2098602321345184036
- “I mean there's so many things I learned about Lisa. The one thing I would say is I knew she was a hard worker...”
- A post quoting an interview statement. The wording suggests it quotes a video interview, but whether the post itself contains video is unconfirmed.
10. @philippsieben (PixelArtistry) — Explicit reference to a video tutorial
- 289 likes, 34 reposts, 8 replies, roughly 13,000 views, 2026-09-13
- https://x.com/philippsieben/status/2099088255492784184
- “3D Gen Studio is the best free open-source desktop application for local 3D AI workflows...I made a dedicated video tutorial that can be found...”
- One of the few posts that explicitly mentions a “video tutorial” in its text. Its engagement scale is smaller than the others listed here.
Signals
- Today, immediate reactions to events mattered more than video itself. Dario Amodei's essay, reports about UK fragmentation, and rumors of a China-Russia-Iran military alliance are all text speed-posts; none require a video format to spread.
- Big Brother (#bb28) and F1 (Lando) were the only movements close to video virality, resembling clips from a show or race. Multiple accounts reacted to the same scenes nearly simultaneously, a classic “live commentary → spread” pattern.
- One unexpected finding was that searching Explore trend names often failed to reach the trend's main post. For example, searching “Slack” surfaced not discussion of the tool Slack, but an FC club and personal complaints; the trend name and actual topic frequently diverged.
- Solbiscuit / Lmeow cryptocurrency memes had generally weak engagement—from single-digit likes to the low hundreds. They were trending, but their actual engagement was clearly smaller than other topics.
Limits
- This collection did not directly target viral videos. It is based on 40 posts gathered by searching X Explore's top 10 trends—Lando, Lmeow, Slack, Ireland, Company OS, Dario, China, #bb28, Source, and Solbiscuit. Video-specific terms such as “viral video” and バズってる動画 were not used. It therefore does not directly meet the requirement of “10 videos that went viral today,” and mainly presents posts whose video-like nature was inferred from text and context.
- The media-type data included only an image-presence field (
hasPhoto), with no flag indicating video. The collection data therefore cannot mechanically identify whether each post is video, image, or text. Every judgment about video-likeness in the Posts section above is based on textual and contextual inference, not proof. - The Explore trend list was geolocated to the connection source in Croatia. Seven of 10 trends were labeled “Trending in Croatia,” so this is not a worldwide X trend list but a locally visible one.
- Among the search terms, only Big Brother (#bb28) and F1 (Lando) clearly led to video-related content, alongside roughly one post mentioning a video tutorial (@philippsieben). The others—Slack, Company OS, China, Source, and Solbiscuit—were mainly text and image reaction posts.
- Collection was capped at 40 posts across 10 trends, and no further X exploration was performed in this session beyond reviewing what the worker had already collected.

Signals
- The “Daisuke Hori challenge” is a controversy-adjacent viral event still unfolding: The 24-hour livestream format, which makes viewers feel they must keep watching to follow developments, has turned the snoring incident, collaboration deletion, apology, and protest into an ongoing drama. Real-time X searches and online news outlets such as SmartFLASH and coki repeatedly cover developments, driving viewers back to YouTube in a feedback loop between social media and news. Peak concurrent viewership has declined slightly by day (a maximum of 20,401 viewers on day 5, with a 9.27% viewing rate according to userlocal), but clips of the incident-heavy segments continue to perform.
- Official announcement → internet reaction video is another two-stage pattern seen with the Suica mascot. A large organization such as JR East provides a highly memeable spark in the form of a vote, and clip and roundup channels pick it up and grow.
- Idol/K-pop choreography videos remain a standard trending category (JO1 IGNITE). Large numbers of views generated quickly by repeat fan viewing and sharing are a weekly pattern; this is not necessarily broad mainstream discussion, but can be intensely viral within a fandom.
Limits
- In the current collection environment, YouTube's official trending page (
youtube.com/feed/trending) and search-results page (youtube.com/results) redirected to regional consent screens or lacked executed JavaScript rendering. As a result, metrics such as view counts and channel subscribers could not be directly read from embedded JSON (ytInitialData). Individual video pages (watch?v=) had the same limitation: titles could be obtained, but exact view and like counts could not be confirmed from the pages themselves. - Therefore, specific view and concurrent-viewer figures are limited to those confirmed through secondary sources rather than YouTube itself: yutura.net, news articles such as SmartFLASH/coki, userlocal concurrent-viewership research, and ranking aggregators such as lenostube and plus1world. Note that the numerical primary source is not YouTube.
- Uchiyama Yugo's collaboration video was deleted, so a direct video link could not be provided; news-article links are used instead.
- Several trending topics covered by Netlab—such as “1996 wedding dress” and “mushrooms on nails”—were actually posts from Instagram or X rather than YouTube viral content, and were excluded.
- Against a target of 10, only eight videos with confirmable links, posters, and metrics were found, including one deleted video. Five involved Daisuke Hori because a single large, ongoing serial drama was the easiest material to verify in real time. Broader coverage across one-off viral genres would require direct access to YouTube search-result data containing view counts and upload dates.

Accounts
No large account specializing in “viral video roundups” was found on Bluesky. The sources for the posts found were roughly as follows:
- Full Fact (
fullfact.org) — A UK fact-checking organization that verifies whether viral videos are misinformation or deepfakes. - Digital Brain (
yourdigitalbrain.bsky.social) — An account posting emotional animal videos natively through Bluesky's official video feature. - NY Times Pitchbot (
nytpitchbot.bsky.social) — A satire bot that introduced a “videos that went viral before YouTube” series. - Irish Number Ones (
irishnumberones.bsky.social) — An account posting nostalgic commercials and videos. - Among Japanese-language accounts, 場末の古本屋 (
beaversbooks.bsky.social) stood out only for posting skepticism about “videos going viral.” No specialist account live-commentating on or curating viral videos in Japanese was found.
Posts
These were the 10 video-related posts with the most likes from the last 24–48 hours (2026-09-12 to 2026-09-14). Bluesky appears less a place that generates large volumes of viral video itself than one where people link to and react to videos that went viral elsewhere.

Signals
- Cases of video spreading natively and rapidly on Bluesky are rare. The dominant pattern is linking to videos that became popular on YouTube or Instagram and introducing or discussing them as viral. Likes on Bluesky itself peaked at only 124 for the NYTPitchbot post, and the underlying videos' view counts cannot be determined from Bluesky.
- The genres receiving attention were primarily news and political clips—multiple posts referring to Trump's Ireland visit, the Zuckerberg deepfake, and Paxton news—alongside short animal and emotional videos. There were almost no newly viral TikTok-style dance or challenge videos.
- A meaningful number of posts use “viral” while actually introducing old or retro content, such as the Windows 95 launch dance and the 1994 Guinness ad. Newly viral content and nostalgia for once-viral videos are mixed together.
- There are many posts using hashtags such as
#viral,#fyp, and#shorts, but most are spam-like self-promotion with zero or one like and cannot reasonably be described as actually spreading. - Japanese posts about “videos going viral” or “trending videos” were almost nonexistent. Even when found, they were not genuine linked-video introductions but meta-level skeptical comments, such as “I brace myself when I see a video is going viral” from
beaversbooks.bsky.social.
Limits
- Bluesky's official web app (bsky.app) is a client-rendered SPA, and neither search nor individual-post pages return their bodies server-side. The investigation therefore used the public AT Protocol API directly (
https://api.bsky.app/xrpc/app.bsky.feed.searchPostsand similar endpoints). - The API frequently returned 403 rate limits during consecutive or parallel access. Additional queries later in the process—including
#shorts, Japanese variants such as “TikTokでバズ” and “切り抜きがバズ,” and Bluesky's official trending-video feedthevids—could not be completed (getFeedreturned 502 errors). - Search results for Japanese keywords—バズってる動画, バズった動画, 話題の動画, and 動画がバズり—were all sparse, often only a few results, with almost no in-window posts containing actual video links. For some queries, the
sort=latestparameter did not reliably return newest-first results, mixing in older posts from 2024–2025, so date filtering was manual. - For these reasons, it was not possible to collect exactly 10 videos that rapidly spread on Bluesky in the last 24–48 hours. The 10 examples above are the most-liked video-related posts in the period, and several—notably #2 and #10—are introductions to old viral videos, not videos newly viral today.
- Actual video view counts on YouTube or Instagram are unavailable from Bluesky posts and were not checked. Only Bluesky likes and repost counts are listed.

Signals
- Lemmy has no strong central destination for entertainment videos going viral. Communities likely to fit the role on other platforms—
!videos,!nextfuckinglevel,!publicfreakout, and!tiktokcringe—are uniformly low-activity or locked. - Posts matching the search term “viral” are almost entirely political, war, or social-movement news articles, where the video is one element of the article rather than the main attraction.
- The few actual video posts are mainly news coverage or reposts after the content already spread on TikTok or X. For example, the Georgia kitchen footage is reposted as a FOX 5 news video. No viral-video phenomenon originating on Lemmy was found.
- Japanese searches for バズってる動画 and 話題の動画 returned zero results. Lemmy's user base is predominantly English-language, and Japanese-language communities and posts are nearly absent.
Limits
- It fell far short of 10, with only three videos found. Lemmy is small and has almost no culture of tracking videos “going viral right now” in the way TikTok, X, and YouTube do. Video-oriented communities—
!videos,!nextfuckinglevel,!publicfreakout,!tiktokcringe,!gifs,!mademesmile, and!oddlysatisfying—were reviewed, but recent posts within 24–48 hours were either absent or showed no indication of growing views or shares. - Searches across lemmy.world, lemmy.ml, and lemm.ee for
viral, went viral, viral video,TikTok,clip, footage, dashcam, andcat videowere attempted, but political and international-news articles accounted for most results. The three entries above were the only pure viral-video matches. - The
lemm.eeAPI search endpoint redirected tojoin-lemmy.org, whilelemmy.cacould not be reached because of a DNS resolution error (ETIMEOUT). - Subscriber numbers for
!kitchenconfidential,!aljazeera_rss, and!zionistviolencemonitorcould not be retrieved because both community-detail pages and APIs returned 500/400 errors. - A post about a homeless man whose piano performance in a church went viral and raised donations (
positive_rss, 2026-09-12, score 2) was also found, but the original video was recorded in 2024 and was merely recirculating. It was excluded because it did not meet the condition of newly surging within this 24–48-hour period.
Recommended actions
- For ongoing X research, search video-specific terms such as “viral video” and “went viral” instead of trend words.
- Set up an environment that can bypass regional consent screens and execute JavaScript in order to obtain accurate YouTube view counts.
- Because Lemmy offers poor return on effort for viral-video monitoring, limit it to a quick check next time or remove it from scope.
- Distinguish Bluesky posts about genuinely new viral content from reposted nostalgia based on context before citing them.
- Because YouTube has the best yield for Japanese-language viral video, reduce effort allocated to Japanese search on Reddit, Bluesky, and Lemmy.
Data quality notes
Because of search mismatches and the limited cultural fit of the target platforms, Reddit, X, and Lemmy did not meet the standard of “10 videos from the last 24–48 hours” (Lemmy found only three, while X did not conduct video-specific searching). YouTube's accurate view counts also came through secondary sources rather than YouTube itself.
