KEN’S CAT LOG

Daily Viral Video — 2026-09-16

Today’s viral activity split into four patterns rather than being driven by a new trending format: karma-driven aftermaths, soothing animal content, political clips, and strong early momentum for new releases from established channels. On X, no viral videos were identified.

Today’s Viral Videos — 2026-09-16

Today, what counted as “viral” varied dramatically by social network—and that variation was itself the interesting result. Reddit engaged less with the videos themselves than with what happened after they went viral; X had virtually no viral videos at all; YouTube was dominated not by unexpected breakouts from unknown individuals but by a rush of new releases from major channels; and animal content and political clips performed reliably on Bluesky and Lemmy. Looking across all five platforms, this was not a day when a flashy new dance or challenge format took off. Instead, four patterns stood out: “karma-driven aftermaths,” “comforting animal content,” “political clips,” and “early momentum for new releases from established accounts.”

Across platforms

  • Attention is shifting from “viral videos” to what happens afterward: Reddit’s top two posts by score (a broken engagement video and a video about a woman who was fired) were both aftermath stories about what happened once a video went viral. Rather than the novelty of the original video, subsequent developments fueled their growth.
  • Animal content remains consistently strong on every social network: Five of the top 10 posts in Bluesky Discover involved animals (a bear, dog, cat, pig, and traditional craft), while Lemmy’s top-scoring post was “Animal Sounds from around the world.” It is not flashy, but it was one of the few common patterns independently observed across multiple platforms.
  • Political clips are gaining traction across platforms: Political video posts and clips ranked highly on X (the Clarity Act vote and Ed Sheeran/Gaza remarks), Bluesky (a video from a Michigan Senate candidate and a clip of remarks by a Spanish politician), and Lemmy (a Trump/Jensen Huang call video).
  • Early momentum for new releases from established large accounts and channels outweighs surprise virality from unknown individuals: YouTube Trending was filled with new videos from existing channels with hundreds of thousands to millions of subscribers, while Reddit users were more likely to dislike formulaic content designed to chase virality.
  • The scale of “viral” differs enormously by social network: From X’s largest example (@wildest_bella, 228,000 likes and 2 million views) to Lemmy’s largest examples (scores in the 30–40 range), the benchmark differs by nearly two orders of magnitude.

Platform by platform

Reddit: We collected 12 threads from 11 subreddits, clearing the completion target of 10. However, view counts for the videos themselves were mostly unavailable, so thread scores and comment counts served as proxy metrics. The most notable findings were that “karma / outrage → consequences” stories (a broken engagement and a woman being fired) occupied the top spots, and that India-related subreddits accounted for three posts. Another unexpected finding was that a thread selecting all-time Hall of Fame videos was the second-fastest-growing item in this collection.

X: The completion target was not met: there were zero video posts among 36 collected posts. This was because the session’s Explore tab was showing Croatian regional trends, and every collected post was an image or text post. The only post at a scale that could genuinely be called viral (@wildest_bella’s Ed Sheeran/Gaza quote post, with 228,000 likes) was also image-plus-text rather than video. No “viral video of the day” could be identified on X.

YouTube: Links and uploaders were confirmed for all 10 entries, but specific view and like counts were largely unavailable because of JavaScript rendering limitations, so Trending rankings were used as proxies. Only M!LK’s new music video had a concrete secondary-source figure of roughly 3.1 million views. The lineup consisted of gaming videos, VTuber projects, and new idol music videos; no sudden breakout from an unknown individual was found.

Bluesky: Keyword search could not be used because of API limitations (403/502), so posts with embedded videos were extracted from the Discover feed instead. The 10-post completion target was reached, but there were no Japanese-language posts; results were primarily English-language and split between animal content and politics.

Lemmy: Only eight video posts from the past 24–48 hours could be confirmed, short of the 10-post completion target. Since Lemmy does not display view counts, score and comment count were used instead. Cross-posting to multiple communities was observed as Lemmy’s version of a distribution mechanism (for example, the Getty Images critique video).

What to watch

Recommendations

  • For the next X collection, avoid relying on Explore alone: set the region to Japan or global, then use video-specific search terms such as “viral video” and “バズ動画.”
  • Enable use of YouTube’s Trending-page API, such as the YouTube Data API, so actual view and like counts can be obtained instead of rankings.
  • Since Lemmy’s dedicated video communities are small, expand cross-platform searching beyond «メールアドレス» to publicfreakout-style communities and regional instances.
  • Once Bluesky’s search API 403/502 issues are resolved, retry collection using keyword searches rather than relying on the Discover feed.
  • When discussing viral video trends across platforms, the four patterns—karma, animals, political clips, and new releases from established channels—provide a clear framework for explaining differences in each platform’s mood.
  • For networks such as Reddit and Lemmy where views cannot be obtained, explicitly state each time that scores/comments are proxy metrics and do not compare figures across networks directly.

Data quality

No video content was confirmed on X (the completion target was not met because of Explore’s regional setting and a text/image-heavy collection). YouTube links and uploaders were confirmed for 10 entries, but views and likes were almost entirely unavailable because of JavaScript rendering limitations. Lemmy had only eight videos within the past 24–48 hours, below the completion target of 10, and used score as a substitute for views. Reddit and Bluesky secured more than 10 posts each, but Reddit’s collection window was wider than the requested 24–48 hours, while Bluesky had the bias of containing zero Japanese-language posts.

Reddit — Daily Viral Video

Where

The 12 collected threads came from 11 subreddits. The breakdown is as follows.

Subreddit Members Collected threads
r/youtube 3,456,748 1
r/rnb 1,567,286 1
r/BollywoodMusic 486,674 1
r/InstagramMarketing 383,233 1
r/ValorantCompetitive 357,307 1

r/GenAlpha 75,935 1
r/HelpMeFindThis 108,359 1
r/20sIndiaReal 10,078 1
r/TikTokDiscuss 3,084 2

r/TikTokDiscuss is the smallest, with only 3,084 subscribers, yet it produced two hits. It feels like a specialist community that picks up TikTok viral videos on Reddit for live commentary and discussion. By contrast, the largest communities—r/youtube (3.46 million) and r/rnb (1.56 million)—produced one entry each. Another notable point is that India-related subreddits (r/TwentiesofIndia, r/20sIndiaReal, and r/MechanicalPandey) accounted for three posts.

What people say
  • #12 r/MechanicalPandey · 3,880 points · 1,383 comments · 2026-09-09 (link): An India-based viral video in the “the video reached the fiancé and destroyed the wedding” category. Comments were overwhelmingly celebratory: u/PrizeTale9816 said “W groom,” while u/SufficientBenefit304 wrote “Soo happy from the bottom of the heart 💓❤️.” This type of “karma” story received the highest scores.
  • #6 r/TikTokDiscuss · 6,442 points · 2,657 comments · 2026-09-12 (link): The story of a woman whose disdainful attitude toward low-wage workers went viral and cost her her job. It had the top score of all threads. Sarcastic comments such as u/Icy_Marionberry_9131’s “The irony is that she worked for Heinz.” were popular.
  • #7 r/20sIndiaReal · 904 points · 548 comments · 2026-09-11 (link): A video about a “Hindutva auntie” trying to impose vegetarianism and facing backlash. Politics and religion made the discussion heated; u/PookieHoneyBee’s “She called the Police and herself got arrested” was the top comment.
  • #2 r/BollywoodMusic · 347 points · 35 comments · 2026-09-14 (link): A remake video of a classic Bollywood song was viral on X, but Reddit users were sharply divided. u/Aditen wrote, “The song is well done, but somehow the way its filmed, it does feel very secondary to the original,” while u/Ankit-Porwal-004 said, “Sunidhi nailed the remake.” It is interesting how clearly opinions split over the same video.
  • #9 r/rnb · 1,503 points · 84 comments · 2026-09-11 (link): A Beyoncé impersonation video praised as “top 10 all time.” u/DeliciousMinute1966 laughed while referencing the original lyric, “To the left to the left.” One of the few examples that went viral simply as comedy.
  • #11 r/TwentiesofIndia · 327 points · 17 comments · 2026-09-13 (link): A tragic story in which a 22-year-old woman was killed after a video of her merely speaking to strangers went viral. It is an example of a viral video leading directly to real-world violence, and the comments were somber.
  • #10 r/ValorantCompetitive · 115 points · 18 comments · 2026-09-15 (link): A YouTube Shorts montage of spectacular plays was reposted after gaining traction in the gaming community. Reactions focused on technical evaluation, such as u/Brake_fart’s “the Guardian flick in Ascent is the best one imo.”
  • #3 r/HelpMeFindThis · 54 points · 5 comments · 2026-09-09 (link): A prank video involving someone else’s car and a mysterious “saxophone sound” (actually from a different audio source) went viral, but the original source could not be identified, so users were searching for it together. u/Polar_dare84 wrote: “That's not a saxophone btw. It's the sound of a man with a firecracker in his pants 😭”.
  • #1 r/InstagramMarketing · 11 points · 40 comments · 2026-09-12 (link): A perspective from someone no longer going viral rather than someone gaining traction. An artist with 33k followers complained that posts once received 300–400k views but now stall at 2–5k. u/MathiasSybarit suggested that “easy” content without showing one’s face may be penalized by Instagram’s algorithm.
  • #4 r/GenAlpha · 15 points · 12 comments · 2026-09-13 (link): A thread expressing distaste for formulaic virality-chasing videos along the lines of “howtogeteasyviews.” Comments such as u/TheTreeDemoknight’s “Just a bunch of bullshit on my screen” show an example where content may be viral but still broadly disliked.
  • #8 r/TikTokDiscuss · 0 points · 1 comment · 2026-09-15 (link): According to the uploader, the video is “going viral with 2.2 million views on TikTok,” but its Reddit repost received zero points and one comment—only “Context?”—with no real response.
  • #5 r/youtube · 1,221 points · 485 comments · 2026-09-12 (link): Not about today’s trend, but a thread selecting all-time “YouTube Hall of Fame videos,” which drew enormous engagement. Familiar classics such as Charlie bit my finger, Gangnam Style, and ASDF movie appeared, showing how Reddit invokes legendary older videos as a benchmark for measuring current virality.
Signals
  • “Karma / outrage → consequences” stories are growing most strongly: #12 (the broken engagement) and #6 (the woman who was fired) ranked first and second by score. Reddit is responding to the aftermath of a viral video more than the viral video itself.
  • Formulaic viral content is disliked: As in #4, videos designed around “howtogeteasyviews” receive wholly negative reactions even if they go viral. Viral does not necessarily mean well received.
  • There is a major gap in viral temperature between platforms: #8 claims “2.2 million views on TikTok,” yet the Reddit repost had zero points and one comment. Conversely, #6 and #12 received thousands of Reddit points on Reddit alone. The numbers behind “viral” vary completely depending on where they are measured.
  • The same video can split opinion down the middle: The Bollywood remake in #2 divided commenters clearly between those who thought it was a good remake and those who preferred the original. “Viral” does not simply mean everyone likes it.
  • The surprise was #5: Despite not being a thread about videos going viral today, its all-time Hall of Fame theme received 1,221 points and 485 comments—the second-highest score in this collection. Reddit may be more eager to engage with legendary viral moments than with new ones.
  • India-related subreddits have a significant presence: Three of 12 threads (#7, #11, and #12) concerned India-related viral videos, all involving weighty social or political flashpoints.
Limits
  • Only 12 threads from 11 subreddits were collected. Searches for “viral videos” and “trending videos” found no Japanese-language subreddits; all communities were English-language, with some India-focused communities.
  • Thread dates ranged from 2026-09-09 to 2026-09-15, a broader window than the requested “past 24–48 hours.” No re-search limited to that time range was performed.
  • Reddit scores and comment counts measure the popularity of the thread itself, not views or likes for the linked video. The only item with a video-level figure is #8, where the uploader claimed “2.2 mil views”; the rest list no view counts.
  • Because original videos on Instagram Reels, X, and YouTube Shorts could not be opened, their contents can only be inferred from descriptions by Reddit posters and commenters.
  • #8 has no corroboration beyond the uploader’s claim and only one “Context?” comment, so whether it was actually viral on TikTok could not be verified.

X

X — Today’s Viral Videos (except almost no videos were found)

In short, among the 36 posts collected from X, virtually none could be called a video going viral today or tomorrow. The posts were collected by searching topics from X Explore—nine of the 10 trends in the location connected to this session, Croatia; “Church” was not searched and is missing. The content was mainly text plus screenshots about crypto, politics, football, and AI-industry news. Zero posts could be confirmed as video links.

Accounts
  • @wildest_bella (𝑏𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑎): One post with 228,292 likes, 31,976 reposts, and roughly 2 million views (2026-09-14). A quote post related to Ed Sheeran’s comments about Gaza, and by far the largest post in this collection. A textbook case of a single viral post.
  • @TheSirRobotto (Robotto): Two posts with 10,522 combined likes (9,103 + 1,419). Both posts in a thread about Wales/England football independence gained traction.
  • @TheCryptoSquire (John Squire), @SenLummis (Senator Cynthia Lummis), and @BTCWealthWar: Each posted once about the “Clarity Act,” a crypto-regulation bill, with 1,799–9,750 likes and 280k–520k views. Real-name and elected-official accounts discussing politics and crypto were central rather than meme accounts.
  • @QingJing36 (wellcyan): One post with only three replies but 118 reposts, an unusual ratio, using the hashtags #chance and #mafioso. It appears to be part of a potentially bot-driven amplification cluster.
  • @ballsmeep: Two posts and 25 likes combined from a small account posting commentary in the uranium-stock ($PEN, $EU) space.
  • Other accounts, including @babi, @manonstiara, and @WUTangKids, received several hundred to around one thousand likes for posts about Ed Sheeran leaving a tour. @hkunimitsu posted a Japanese-language thread explaining comments by Dario, Anthropic’s CEO (113 likes but roughly 33,000 views).
  • Around 20 remaining accounts were small accounts with one post and fewer than 10 likes, merely joining niche hashtag topics such as “#uranium,” “#sweepstakes,” “Lmeow,” and “#chance.”

Signals
  • The 10 Explore trends in this collection, viewed from Croatia, were “#uranium,” “Clarity Act,” “#sweepstakes,” “Serbia,” “Lmeow,” “#chance,” “Dario,” “Ed Sheeran,” “England,” and “Church.” They were all politics, crypto, sports, or entertainment topics unrelated to viral video. None of the 36 collected posts featured video as the main subject; all were marked hasPhoto, meaning static images or text only.
  • The only item at a scale that can truly be called viral was @wildest_bella’s Ed Sheeran/Gaza quote post, with 2 million views and 32,000 reposts. It was image plus short text, not video.
  • The “#chance,” “Lmeow,” “#uranium,” and “#sweepstakes” clusters frequently had only single-digit to tens of likes and zero to a few replies, but shared hashtags. They look less like genuine conversation than small-scale spam or crypto solicitation riding hashtags; @QingJing36’s distorted repost ratio is especially conspicuous.
  • The Clarity Act, a U.S. crypto-regulation bill, drew public posts from both politicians and crypto influencers, making it the strongest example here of a genuine discussion trend.
  • One unexpected point was that the Dario/Anthropic story was being developed into an explanatory thread by a Japanese account as well as discussed in English-speaking circles. It was one of the few topics spreading across national boundaries.
Limits
  • The Explore tab in this session was showing Croatian regional trends, explicitly labeled “Trending in Croatia.” It was not a trend list for Japan, the United States, or another broader region, so it cannot be considered representative of “today’s viral activity” as requested.
  • Of the top 10 Explore topics, “Church” (Politics · Trending) was omitted from the search, so no matching posts were collected.
  • Search terms were not video-specific terms such as “viral video”; they were the trend terms taken directly from Explore, including hashtags and proper names. As a result, the collection was not designed to target video content in the first place. All 36 posts were static-image or text posts, with zero video links available.
  • X did not meet the brief’s completion target of 10 videos with links, posters, and metrics. The conclusion for X is that no viral video of the day could be identified.
  • This worker could only read previously collected data in a headless browser and did not have permission to browse X independently, so it could not search for additional video posts.

Signals
  • The top 10 in Japan’s YouTube Trending list for September 14–15, 2026 included gaming videos (Dozle Corp., Raibarori, Eiko Kano), the large “hololive Dreams” VTuber game competition (Shishiro Botan and Usada Pekora), new idol/K-pop songs and music videos (M!LK, INI, CUTIE STREET), and a game trailer (ACE COMBAT 8) (Acchikochi Data).
  • No spontaneous breakout videos from ordinary users appeared near the top. Every item’s initial Trending momentum came from new content by established channels with subscriber bases in the hundreds of thousands to millions.
  • Yahoo! Real-Time Search’s social-buzz roundup showed that “a man with 100 million yen in assets looking for marriage” was a topic on X, but this was a resurgence of a YouTube series posted in July, not a newly confirmed video corresponding to this 24–48-hour surge.
Limits
  • YouTube search and video pages contain substantial JavaScript-rendered content, and WebFetch could retrieve only static elements such as the footer. As a result, accurate view and like counts could not be directly confirmed for most videos. Trending ranks and references from third-party sites such as Acchikochi Data and Yahoo! News search were used instead. Only M!LK’s video had a specific secondary-source figure of approximately 3.1 million views.
  • Direct URLs for CUTIE STREET’s relevant birthday-celebration live footage and the Shishiro Botan hololive Dreams episode could not be identified; search results returned only older series installments or stream-list pages.
  • Of the completion criteria—10 videos with links, uploaders, and numbers—links and uploaders were confirmed for all 10, but specific views and likes were unavailable for almost all videos for the reasons above. This is stated in the Signals section and each item.
  • Searches did not find the kind of sudden viral video most closely associated with “viral”—for example, a pet mishap or a street incident posted by an unknown individual. Trending was dominated by new releases from established large channels, and that pattern is itself recorded in Signals.

Signals
  • Bluesky’s form of virality differs from other platforms. Rather than flashy TikTok/X-style trends, it splits between: 1. warm, feel-good videos involving animals or good deeds, and 2. clipped political videos. Of the top 10, five involved animals (bear, dog, cat, pig, and traditional craft), while four were political or civic in nature (El-Sayed’s own post, two eldiario.es clips, and one feel-good sports item).
  • Like counts are an order of magnitude lower than on Reddit or X; the highest in this collection was 8,219 likes. Given Bluesky’s still-smaller user base, it is reasonable to treat its threshold for “viral” as roughly one order of magnitude lower than other networks.
  • Cases in which politicians directly post a video from their own account and it goes viral, as with abdulelsayed.bsky.social, stand out. This reflects Bluesky’s relatively high concentration of political communities.
  • Accounts such as lucagalletti.bsky.social can rank multiple times within the same 24 hours, suggesting that Bluesky’s recommendation algorithm may be prone to repeatedly boosting the same account.
Limits
  • The intended method—keyword searching through app.bsky.feed.searchPosts—could not be used. Both q=バズってる動画 and simple English terms such as q=video consistently returned HTTP 403 Forbidden, possibly because Bluesky was blocking this search endpoint.
  • Bluesky’s official video-focused trend feed, “Video” (at://did:plc:z72i7hdynmk6r22z27h6tvur/app.bsky.feed.generator/thevids), was confirmed to exist through getFeedGenerator, but each getFeed request failed with HTTP 502 Bad Gateway, so its contents could not be obtained.
  • Because bsky.app/search?q=... is JavaScript-rendered, static fetching could not read post text.
  • As an alternative, the official general-trend “Discover (What's Hot)” feed (at://did:plc:z72i7hdynmk6r22z27h6tvur/app.bsky.feed.generator/whats-hot) was retrieved, and only posts with embedded videos were extracted. This is not a dedicated aggregation of viral videos; it draws videos from Bluesky-wide general trends that also include text and image posts. As a result, it is biased toward English-language content and animal/political subjects rather than Japanese-language posts or specific genres.
  • This method secured 10 posts with embedded videos, meeting the completion target. However, no Japanese-language videos or Japan-origin posts appeared in the feed.

Lemmy

Lemmy — Today’s Viral Videos

Communities
  • «メールアドレス» (18,712 subscribers) — Lemmy’s largest video-oriented community for sharing interesting videos from around the web. Most videos found this time came from here.
  • «メールアドレス» — A short-video community; subscriber count could not be obtained through the API because it returned 404. One item was found through search.
Posts

Lemmy has no unified tracker dedicated only to video, so entries were gathered by cross-checking recent and top-24-hour posts in «メールアドレス» with search results. Lemmy does not display view counts, so score (upvotes minus downvotes) and comment counts are used instead.

Posted by: unknown (the uploader name was absent from search results) / 2026-09-15 15:57 UTC / score 3–4 · 0 comments
    Video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/zFf-V9nIpss
→ A short video found repeatedly through search. Direct community post listings were unavailable for c/shorts, so details are based on search results.

Reference (outside the 24–48-hour range, but an example of distribution within Lemmy):

  • I Killed A Business Model (Getty Images) — Cross-posted to the videos, opensource, and publicdomain communities between 2026-09-08 and 2026-09-13, with a combined score above 150 (individual post scores of 63/85/3). This type of cross-posting is the closest equivalent to “going viral” on Lemmy.
Signals
  • The score scale is dramatically smaller than on other social networks: even the top posts reach only the 30–40 range. On Lemmy, “gradually gaining traction” is a better description than “going viral.”
  • Topics split between politics/current affairs (Trump-related content and legal news) and niche-interest material (animal sounds, music covers, AI/open-source criticism). There were zero TikTok-style dance or challenge trends.
  • Rather than a single video becoming viral, a prominent pattern is the same video being cross-posted to multiple communities—such as videos, opensource, and publicdomain—and receiving renewed attention. “I Killed A Business Model” is an example. This is Lemmy’s distribution mechanism.
  • No Japanese-language topic or post was found within this search scope.
Limits
  • Lemmy is a small platform and did not appear to have a dedicated community for tracking viral videos comparable to Reddit’s r/PublicFreakout. The investigation therefore cross-checked «メールアドレス» with search results.
  • Lemmy has no view-count display, so view counts cannot be listed; score (upvotes minus downvotes) and comment count are provided instead.
  • Searched instances: lemmy.world (API search and c/videos post listings) and lemmy.ml (API search). lemm.ee redirected its API to join-lemmy.org and was effectively unavailable, possibly due to service downsizing or closure.
  • Japanese keyword searches such as “バズってる動画” returned zero results on lemmy.world.
  • The «メールアドレス» community’s post-list API returned 404, so direct collection was not possible; only one item found through cross-instance search could be confirmed.
  • Only eight video posts within the past 24–48 hours could be confirmed, short of the requested 10. Only the items found are listed above.

Recommended actions

  • For the next X collection, set the region to Japan or global and use video-focused queries such as “viral video” and “バズ動画.”
  • For YouTube, obtain actual view and like counts through the YouTube Data API or a similar source rather than relying only on Trending rank.
  • Expand Lemmy searches beyond «メールアドレス» to video-oriented communities and instances.
  • Once Bluesky’s 403/502 search API errors are resolved, try keyword search instead of relying on the Discover feed.
  • For networks such as Reddit and Lemmy that do not provide views, explicitly state that score/comment count is a proxy and avoid directly comparing figures between networks.

Data quality notes

No video content was confirmed on X, so it did not meet the completion target; this was caused by Explore’s regional setting and a collection centered on text and images. Ten YouTube links were confirmed, but views and likes were mostly unavailable. Lemmy had only eight videos within the past 24–48 hours and did not meet the completion target.
