Daily Google Play Report 2026-09-17
Today’s most important signal is the same-day arrival of Artmate: Drawing Together in five markets (US #4 / GB #8 / DE #12 / HR #17 / KR #23, android-art-and-design free). This is a stronger early sign of an emerging trend than an appearance in a single market, making it the highest-priority app to track.
1. New arrivals
The strongest contender is Artmate: Drawing Together (android-art-and-design/free), which entered five markets on the same day: US #4, GB #8, DE #12, HR #17, and KR #23. Three-market arrivals include Bulldozer Master: Crush & Mine (game/free; US #36, GB #38, DE #41) and Open Camera (photography/free; GB #37, US #37, DE #39). In individual markets, Universalis (books/paid #1) and Koala Sampler (music/paid #1) entered at the top in GB, while FlashSCORE (education/paid #1) in JP and Couch to 5K® (health/paid #1) in the US also debuted at #1.
2. Sharp monthly rises (Risers over the period)
The reference date is 2026-08-26 (22 days ago; the oldest archived collection date, so this is not yet a full month). Gambonanza climbed to US game/paid #2 (+40) and GB #2 (+35); in KR, it was absent on the reference date. HR saw movement in the finance paid chart, with TradingView at #1 (+36) and Splitwise at #5 (+38). In JP, certification apps dominate education/paid, led by Sign Language Station at #6 (+38); four of the top five are JP certification-related apps. Apps absent on the reference date but now at the top include Seneca at GB #1, Photomath at HR #1, Air Wallet at JP #1, and Eclipse at KR grossing #1.
3. Trends by tier
top is stable at held 89% / new 2% / |Δ| 1.3; mid is 82% / 4% / 3; bottom is 65% / 22% / 3.7. Most new arrivals land between ranks 31 and 45, so today’s entrants are still in the “watching from the tail” stage. Developer data is missing, so developers dominating the top ranks cannot be identified.
4. Trends by country
The US had the most new arrivals at 242, with top-10 retention at 87%; KR was also at 87%, indicating looser top ranks, while DE was the most rigid at 92%. Common fixtures include Canva (#1 in all six markets), Duolingo grossing (#1 in all six markets), and ChatGPT. By contrast, JP’s CHARGESPOT at #4 and LINE at #3 / KakaoTalk at #7 in HR wear grossing are entirely local movements.
5. Trends by category
android-watch-face (held 76%, 62 new arrivals) and android-personalization (77%, 121 new arrivals) stand out for particularly rapid churn, driven by KR watchfacestudio titles and new watch faces in JP. In contrast, android-social at 97%, android-comics at 96%, and android-beauty at 95% are nearly immobile. At 84%, android-education showed the most movement among utility-oriented categories.
Key findings
1. Artmate: Drawing Together arrives in five markets on the same day; art free ranks highest in the US at #4
It appeared on the same day in android-art-and-design free at US #4, GB #8, DE #12, HR #17, and KR #23, spanning Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and Korea. This is not a spike in a single market but a simultaneous cross-regional lift, making it the earliest sign of an emerging trend observable in this dataset. Its already-single-digit position in the US is especially significant.
Confidence: High
2. Same-day multi-country arrivals continue for AI / drawing and photography apps (Bulldozer Master, Open Camera, Lumii, MePic)
Bulldozer Master: Crush & Mine arrived in game/free at US #36, GB #38, and DE #41; Open Camera in photography/free at GB #37, US #37, and DE #39; AI Photo Editor - Lumii at US #27 and DE #37; and MePic-AI Photo Video Generator at GB #31 and US #41. All appeared simultaneously across three Western markets, suggesting a day of increased exposure for creative apps.
Confidence: Medium
3. Gambonanza surges in paid games across three markets from the reference date (US +40 / GB +35; KR was absent and is now #2)
US android-game/paid #2 (+40) and GB #2 (+35) represent some of the largest gains over 22 days. In KR, it moved from unranked on the 2026-08-26 reference date to #2, taking top positions simultaneously in three markets within the relatively stable paid-games chart. It is well worth following as an example of coordinated rollout for a paid title.
Confidence: High
4. JP is dominated by education/paid certification-prep apps versus the reference date
Sign Language Station #6 (+38), Electrical Engineer Third-Class Flashcards #5 (+34), Hikari Rubbing #4 (+29), GAB Prep #3 (+27), and MOS Excel 365 Prep App #2 (+26). FlashSCORE also arrived at JP education/paid #1. Seasonal demand for certifications and learning is clearly rising in JP’s paid chart, making this the focus for Japan-oriented planning.
Confidence: High
5. PDF reader apps rank highly across all six markets, with lifts from the reference date in KR and the US as well
PDF Reader, PDF Viewer is established globally at KR #1, GB #2, HR #2, DE #3, US #3, and JP #7 (US +22). In KR, it is followed by PDF Reader & Viewer: Edit PDF at #13 (+30) and PDF Editor: Document Reader at #2 (absent on the reference date), while PDF Reader: Documents Master newly arrived at US #18 and GB #31. This is the deepest theme among utility apps.
Confidence: High
6. Churn is concentrated in the lower ranks: bottom is held 65% / new 22% / |Δ| 3.7, while top is nearly unchanged
top (ranks 1–10, 3,440 slots) is held 89% / new 2% / |Δ| 1.3; mid (11–30) is 82% / 4% / 3; bottom (31–45) is 65% / 22% / 3.7. Most new arrivals occur at the tail, so it is too early to treat today’s arrivals as sure winners. Top-10 movement averages only 1.3 positions, making attempts to displace leading apps unrealistic in the short term.
Confidence: High
7. watch face / personalization are the most fluid, while social and comics are almost static
android-watch-face has 76% top-10 retention and 62 new arrivals, while android-personalization has 77% and 121 new arrivals—the highest churn of any category. Typical examples include KR’s SamWatch Basic Simple 2026 at #6 (+39) and ROLEX Royal Watch face, which debuted simultaneously at #3 in three KR charts (wear/personalization/watch-face). In contrast, android-social at 97% and android-comics at 96% show little movement, leaving limited room for new entrants.
Confidence: High
8. The US and KR have looser top ranks (87% top-10 retention), while DE is the most rigid at 92%
The US has 80 charts and 242 new arrivals, the most overall; KR has 53 charts and 195 new arrivals, a high density. Both have 87% top-10 retention. They are followed by DE at 92%, GB at 91%, HR at 91%, and JP at 89%. If targeting new titles, prioritize the US and KR; if trying to replace established leaders, DE is the least favorable market.
Confidence: High
9. Absent on the reference date, now top-tier: Seneca (GB) / Photomath (HR) / Air Wallet (JP) / Eclipse (KR grossing)
Seneca - AP & Test Prep is GB education/free #1, Photomath is HR education/free #1, Air Wallet is JP finance/free #1, and 이클립스: 더 어웨이크닝 is KR game/grossing #1. All were absent 22 days ago and are now at the top, likely reflecting back-to-school demand and new-release momentum. Google Classroom at HR #2 follows the same pattern.
Confidence: Medium
10. HR finance grossing changes dramatically in 22 days (TradingView #1 +36, Splitwise #5 +38, Finanzguru #2 was absent on the reference date)
In HR android-finance/grossing, TradingView is #1 (+36), Splitwise is #5 (+38), and Finanzguru, absent on the reference date, is now #2. The swings are large in this smaller market, but household-budgeting and investing tools are rising together, making this useful material for a CEE finance-app feature.
Confidence: Medium
11. Global staples are completely fixed across six markets (Canva, Duolingo grossing, ChatGPT)
Canva is #1 in android-art-and-design/free across DE, GB, HR, JP, KR, and the US. Duolingo is #1 in android-education/grossing across all six markets. ChatGPT is #1 in productivity/free in five markets and #3 in KR. These three should be treated as stable reference points for comparisons and commentary for the time being.
Confidence: High
Recommended actions
- Set Artmate: Drawing Together as the highest-priority watch item from tomorrow onward. Track daily whether it can maintain a single-digit rank from US #4 and whether KR #23 and HR #17 rise into the middle ranks or higher. Its same-day appearance in five markets is the earliest trend signal in this dataset.
- Focus Japan-oriented planning on education/paid certification prep (Sign Language Station, Electrical Engineer Third-Class, MOS Excel 365, GAB Prep). Four of the top five apps by gain from the reference date are JP certification-related, indicating clear seasonal demand.
- Create a PDF reader feature. PDF Reader, PDF Viewer ranks highly in six markets (KR #1), with a follower up +30 in KR and new arrivals in the US and GB, making this a deep and timely theme.
- Allocate coverage of new-title opportunities to the US and KR (87% top-10 retention, 242 / 195 new arrivals), and shift DE (92%) toward coverage of existing leaders.
- Since most arrivals land between ranks 31 and 45 (bottom new 22%), cover only titles that appeared across multiple markets individually; group the remainder into a roundup rather than giving each a standalone article.
- Since TOP_GROSSING has deteriorated broadly in DE and GB, hold off on concluding that grossing charts are “less dynamic” and verify in the next collection. In particular, note that new DE personalization/grossing titles (Chester Flower dream, MD335) were observed in an unstable collection surface.
Data quality notes
For the target date 2026-09-17, 380 charts / 14,237 rows were collected. Of 415 charts in scope (excluding 215 whose sources were not yet published from the configured schedule), 35 charts were not collected. Of the 380 charts, 346 could be compared with 2026-09-16; the remaining 34 had no prior collection, so they are not counted as “new arrivals” (being non-comparable is different from having newly entered). Of recent runs, 6 were partially completed and 36 fetches failed. Degraded sources are concentrated in TOP_GROSSING: nearly every category’s grossing chart in DE, many grossing and paid charts in GB, and some in KR/US/JP/HR. As a result, new arrivals and rises in grossing charts—especially in DE and GB—may appear lower than reality. In addition, developer is missing for 96,217 records, ratingCount for 96,217, and rating for 5,203, so the “developers occupying the top ranks” field in the tier table cannot be calculated and is blank. The reference date, 2026-08-26, was 22 days ago and is the oldest archived collection date. Although labeled “monthly,” a full month of data is not yet available.
