KEN’S CAT LOG

Daily Viral Video — 2026-09-20

Today’s viral-video landscape was led by YouTube, where music videos and surprise announcements performed strongly. On Reddit, X, Bluesky, and Lemmy, clips about current events and politics were more prominent than videos themselves.

Daily Viral Video — 2026-09-20

In short, there was no single video today that felt like the universally viral hit. But YouTube was clearly the platform where video-specific virality was most visible, with music videos from Fujii Kaze, BE:FIRST, and M!LK, plus THE FIRST TAKE’s surprise solo-debut announcement, all gaining strong traction. Across Reddit, X, Bluesky, and Lemmy, the main draw was generally current-events and political discussion about videos rather than the videos themselves. In this collection, X and Lemmy in particular captured almost no genuine video virality. Looking across language markets, Japanese-language viral content appeared almost exclusively on YouTube; searches found no Japanese video results on Reddit, Bluesky, or Lemmy. Also note that outside YouTube, many platforms substitute platform-engagement figures—such as Reddit scores, X likes, or Lemmy upvotes—for actual video-view counts, so those figures should be interpreted accordingly.

Across platforms

  • Current-events discussion about videos is more prominent than the videos themselves: Reddit (TeenIndia, japannews, MOofEverything), Bluesky (MeidasTouch’s political clips), and X all share the same pattern: what is gaining traction is less “a viral video” than clips tied to political or social topics. YouTube was the only platform where pure entertainment videos were the main viral category.
  • Japanese-language virality is almost nonexistent outside YouTube: The brief included Japanese search terms such as “バズってる動画” and “話題の動画,” but nothing surfaced from that angle on Reddit, Bluesky, or Lemmy (as consistently reported in Reddit Limits, Bluesky Limits, and Lemmy Limits). Japanese video trends were only captured through YouTube, via digitalcreators.jp.
  • Many platforms do not provide metrics for the videos themselves: Reddit (except #3, which has a link), X (only a hasPhoto flag, so video status cannot be determined), and Lemmy (which has no view-count concept) substitute platform reactions—scores, likes, and upvotes—for video metrics. YouTube, and to a lesser extent Bluesky post likes/reposts, were the only sources with usable video-side figures.
  • Older videos resurfacing: As with Reddit #12, where a two-year-old TikTok clip was reposted nostalgically, multiple platforms showed a pattern in which older videos become viral again when the definition of “viral today” is applied more loosely.

Platform by platform

Reddit: Twelve threads were collected, but each was scattered across a different subreddit; there was no dedicated “video hub.” The top-performing item was a clip of Aaron Pierre losing his accent in Lanterns, which reignited in two subreddits five days apart: 3,426 points in r/dcu and 1,202 in r/DC_Cinematic. However, only this one item had a direct link to the video; the rest led through descriptions or news articles. Japanese search terms produced no useful results, so the brief’s target of “10 items with links and metrics” was effectively not met.

X: The results came from searching political, economic, and sports trend terms surfaced by X Explore—Greenland, NATO, Chelsea, and so on—not from a search designed to find viral videos. Of 40 posts, only one from @TheRicanMemes even used the word “video” in its text, so the number of posts confidently identifiable as video content was effectively zero to one. Some engagement figures were large, including @RapidResponse47’s 30,000 likes and 6.7 million views, but this was almost entirely a miss in terms of video virality.

YouTube: Since YouTube’s official Trending page has been discontinued, the Japanese trending ranking from third-party aggregator digitalcreators.jp was used for verification. Fujii Kaze’s “You” (2.86 million views), BE:FIRST’s “WATCH ME” (1.64 million views), M!LK’s new music video, and other large-artist releases ranked near the top alongside media coverage. THE FIRST TAKE’s surprise solo debut by Ruka Nakagawa (680,000 views) also had strong news value. YouTube was the only platform that produced a full set of 10 items and captured Japanese-language virality in concrete detail.

Bluesky: Short clips from U.S. political news were overwhelmingly strong, especially posts from MeidasTouch. Multiple clips went viral within a few afternoon hours, led by Newsom’s signing video with 5,452 likes. Feel-good cat and child content from accounts such as democratcats also remained a stable category. However, the official search API (searchPosts) consistently returned 403 errors, while the video-specific trending feed “thevids” returned 502 errors. The collection therefore extracted video-embedded posts from a general trending feed instead. As a result, 10 videos were collected, but all were English-language and heavily skewed toward U.S. politics; no Japanese viral videos were confirmed.

Lemmy: The candid conclusion is that there was no video that could reasonably be called “what’s going viral today.” Lemmy has no concept of view or share counts, so only upvotes and comments can be used as proxies. Communities in the !viralvideos family were largely inactive and had been neglected for years; only the general-purpose !«メールアドレス» remained active. The top post, “One Lucky Koala,” had a score of 112—two to three orders of magnitude smaller than Reddit or X figures. Only nine items were collected, short of 10, and Japanese-language communities were effectively absent.

What to watch

  • Aaron Pierre’s Lanterns accent-slip clip — r/dcu(3,426 points), then reignited five days later on r/DC_Cinematic(1,202 points). Keep watching to see whether it becomes an established meme.
  • Fujii Kaze’s “You” music video — YouTube, with 2.86 million views in three days. Worth tracking as an album-first-anniversary tie-in campaign.
  • THE FIRST TAKE: Ruka Nakagawa’s surprise solo debut — YouTube, with 680,000 views. Continue tracking reactions to the “you don’t know who will appear” format.
  • MeidasTouch’s “Newsom signing video” — Bluesky, with 5,452 likes. Worth monitoring as an example of simultaneous viral bursts from political-clip accounts.
  • @RapidResponse47’s Greenland-related post — X, with 30,000 likes and 6.7 million views, though it remains unconfirmed whether it is a video. Check whether video status can be determined next time.
  • Lemmy’s “One Lucky Koala” — Lemmy, with a score of 112, the largest on Lemmy. Continue observing whether animal content is a reliably strong Lemmy category.

Recommendations

  • In the next X collection, use video-specific search terms such as “went viral” and “viral video” rather than Explore trend terms, so actual viral videos can be captured.
  • Retry Bluesky’s searchPosts API and its video-specific “thevids” feed later to determine whether the 403/502 errors were temporary.
  • To track Japanese-language viral videos, prioritize YouTube via digitalcreators.jp ahead of Reddit, Bluesky, and Lemmy.
  • Because Reddit rarely provides direct links to videos, consider collecting one layer deeper next time by following each thread’s outgoing links to Instagram, TikTok, or news articles.
  • Lemmy’s inactive !viralvideos communities are unlikely to be worth checking every time; exclude them in future collections to save time.
  • For videos such as Aaron Pierre’s accent clip that resurface across multiple days and subreddits, add “number of resurgences” alongside one-off scores to make sustained momentum easier to assess.

Data quality

YouTube and Bluesky each produced a full set of 10 items with links, posters, and figures such as views or likes. Reddit produced 12 threads, but only one had a direct video link, and no actual video views or likes were available; Reddit-specific scores were used as a substitute. X’s search terms were not video-focused, so only one of 40 posts could realistically be confirmed as a video, meaning the brief’s completion standard—10 linked, attributed, and quantified videos—was effectively not met. Lemmy has no view-count concept and provided only nine items, using upvotes/comments as proxies; its !viralvideos communities were broadly inactive. Overall, the brief’s Japanese-language “viral videos” angle was barely captured anywhere outside YouTube.

Platform summaries

Reddit

Reddit — Daily Viral Video

Where

12 threads were collected, one each from 12 different subreddits — no subreddit produced more than a single hit, so this is a scattershot of wherever “viral video” language turned up, not a dedicated viral-video hub:

  • r/help (1,349,320 members) — 1 thread
  • r/DC_Cinematic (546,683 members) — 1 thread
  • r/TeenIndia (551,540 members) — 1 thread
  • r/dcu (20,044 → actually listed 20,044 members) — 1 thread
  • r/BollywoodMusic (487,116 members) — 1 thread
  • r/japannews (126,943 members) — 1 thread
  • r/battlecats (180,986 members) — 1 thread
  • r/GenAlpha (76,059 members) — 1 thread
  • r/BollywoodShaadis (62,801 members) — 1 thread
  • r/rusAskReddit (390,934 members) — 1 thread
  • r/IndiaPulse_ (20,815 members) — 1 thread
  • r/MOofEverything (905 members) — 1 thread

Notably, no Japanese-language subreddit appears despite two of the five search terms being Japanese (“バズってる動画”, “話題の動画”) — those terms actually surfaced r/rusAskReddit, r/GenAlpha and r/battlecats instead (see Limits).

What people say
  • #3 r/DC_Cinematic · 1,202 pts · 59 comments · 2026-09-19 — Aaron Pierre’s on-set clip from Lanterns (source linked to an Instagram reel, https://www.instagram.com/reel/DdP9WfEpbHQ/) where he audibly slips out of his American accent. Top comment (161 pts, u/Fuzzy_Ant_6447): “I love that the fandom has kind of rallied around enjoying his slips rather than insulting him.”
  • #7 r/dcu · 3,426 pts · 73 comments · 2026-09-14 — the same Aaron Pierre accent clip, five days earlier and in a different sub, with the highest score of anything collected. u/CyanaMoss (182 pts): “Yes bruv, that’s our Jon Stewart right there.” u/Naterttotsart (25 pts) flags a second slip: he says “axe” instead of “ask.”
  • #2 r/BollywoodMusic · 377 pts · 37 comments · 2026-09-14 — a remade Bollywood song video “getting viral on X,” with the sub split: u/badbeechy (29 pts) says it’s “more sexy and sound quality obviously better,” while the OP notes “people are saying this version is shi.”
  • #6 r/TeenIndia · 383 pts · 37 comments · 2026-09-16 — an unlinked “heart-wrenching” video (context implies child marriage) driving a long values debate. u/Conscious_Chance_687 (21 pts): “Marriage should be ban for people younger then 21.”
  • #12 r/battlecats · 716 pts · 27 comments · 2026-09-17 — not a today-viral video at all: OP resurfaced a TikTok clip they’d saved “2 years ago,” and it still pulled the sub’s highest non-DC score, purely as a nostalgia/meme reaction post.
  • #11 r/japannews · 39 pts · 11 comments · 2026-09-19 — a clip of newly-appointed Vice-Minister Morishita Chisato appearing not to understand Japan’s food self-sufficiency rate. u/Freak_Out_Bazaar (10 pts): “She’s just a front and there’s a team that feeds her information.”
  • #4 r/rusAskReddit · 32 pts · 33 comments · 2026-09-16 — OP found an old creepy video in their own gallery and can’t source it; the thread treats it as a found-footage/AI mystery. u/Ober_Darsteller (12 pts): “Это определённо нейронка, потому что голова на кресле появляется из воздуха” (it’s definitely AI-generated, the head appears out of thin air).
  • #5 r/IndiaPulse_ · 18 pts · 0 comments · 2026-09-17 — a street altercation video from Noida (“Kalesh”) alleging the people involved were intoxicated; posted but drew zero discussion.
  • #9 r/MOofEverything · 1 pt · 3 comments · 2026-09-17 — actor Sohail Khan’s dancing at a Ganpati celebration went viral for looking “off,” sparking health-concern speculation. u/Wapsy_Aier: “Is he on some kind of drugs.”
  • #10 r/BollywoodShaadis · 3 pts · 1 comment · 2026-09-16 — actress Ankita Lokhande’s dance at a Ganpati Aarti “goes viral,” with commenters “divided” per the linked bollywoodshaadis.com article.
  • #8 r/GenAlpha · 18 pts · 15 comments · 2026-09-13 — a thread dismissing generic “cringe video” engagement-bait outright, tagged “Clip farming, howtogeteasyviews.” u/TheTreeDemoknight (3 pts): “Just a bunch of bullshit on my screen.”
  • #1 r/help · 0 pts · 2 comments · 2026-09-19 — not a video itself, but a poster reporting that one of their posts hit ~66K views (“went viral”) and then their reach collapsed to ~700 views on the next post, asking whether that’s normal Reddit behavior.
Signals
  • Rising: the Aaron Pierre / Lanterns accent-slip clip is the only video that clearly repeats and compounds — it shows up in two subreddits five days apart (#7 on 09-14, #3 on 09-19) with the two highest scores in the whole set (3,426 and 1,202), meaning the “bit” outlived a single news cycle and the fandom kept re-litigating it.
  • Rising but political, not comedic: several of the highest-engagement threads (#6 TeenIndia, #11 japannews, #9 MOofEverything) treat “viral video” as a vehicle for real-world outrage or scrutiny (child marriage, a minister’s competence, a celebrity’s apparent health) rather than pure entertainment — Reddit’s framing of “viral” here skews toward controversy over spectacle.
  • Dismissed: r/GenAlpha (#8) explicitly names and rejects generic clip-farming/engagement-bait content as “bullshit,” suggesting some audiences are actively fatigued by manufactured virality rather than chasing it.
  • Disagreement as a finding: #2 (Bollywood remake) is the clearest split thread — some call the new version worse than the original, others say the vocals and production beat it; virality did not produce consensus.
  • Surprising: almost none of these threads carry a direct, working link to the video itself. Only #3 includes an actual source link (an Instagram reel); the rest describe the video, screenshot it, or link to a news write-up about it. Reddit’s own numbers (score, comment count) are abundant, but the underlying videos’ own view/like counts never appear anywhere in the collected text — Redditors discuss virality without importing its metrics.
  • Surprising: the single “just a fun clip” entry (#12) wasn’t from the last 24–48 hours at all — it was something the poster had saved two years earlier, yet it still outscored 9 of the other 11 threads, showing old content can out-“viral” same-day content once it’s re-shared into the right niche sub.
Limits
  • The two Japanese search terms (“バズってる動画”, “話題の動画”) did not surface any Japanese-language subreddit or any thread actually written in Japanese about a video — they instead matched unrelated English/Russian-language threads (#4, #8, #12). Effectively, the Japanese-language angle of the brief returned nothing on Reddit.
  • Per the brief’s request for 10 videos “リンク・投稿者・数字付き” (link, poster, numbers): only 12 threads total were collected, and only one (#3) includes a direct link to the video itself; none include the video’s own view/like counts, only the Reddit thread’s own score and comment count. So the “10 with real link + real video numbers” bar is not met by this platform’s data — what’s written above is everything the collection reached, using Reddit’s own thread numbers in place of video numbers, as the playbook instructs.
  • The threads span 2026-09-13 through 2026-09-19 (about a week), wider than the 24–48 hour window the brief asks for; the collection did not filter by post recency.
  • One thread (#1) is not about a viral video at all but about Reddit’s own view-count/reach algorithm — included because it surfaced from the “went viral” search term, and kept here as a Reddit-specific signal rather than dropped.
  • No thread returned a broken link or failed to open — the limiting factor was the collected material’s content (mostly indirect descriptions), not access.

X

X — Daily Viral Video

To state the conclusion upfront, what was collected from X this time was not viral videos themselves, but a batch of posts surfaced by searching trend terms from X Explore (political, economic, and sports topics). As explained in Limits below, there were almost no video links that could confidently be presented as “today’s viral videos.”

Accounts
  • Almost everyone had a single one-off hit. There was no pattern of the same account posting multiple videos that all gained traction. Of 39 accounts, only @ColoColoBosHerz had multiple posts (two posts, eight likes total), and that was still small-scale.
  • The standout one-off posts were:
    • @RapidResponse47 (Rapid Response 47) — 30,255 likes and roughly 6.7 million views on one post. By far the largest result collected, but the post text was empty and it contained only a Greenland-related image.
    • @Scouse_Sammy (S҉a҉m҉) — 4,178 likes and 680 replies. It led the collection in replies, with divided reactions to criticism of King Charles.
    • @springbris (G*rre) — 3,610 likes and roughly 692,000 views, focused on Danish far-right politics.
    • @DailyMail (Daily Mail) — an official media account. Its 260 likes were modest, but 454 replies and roughly 379,000 views made it a “widely seen but fiercely debated” post.
    • @inter_afg (Inter Afganistán) — 2,292 likes for a context-free “LONG LIVE CHILE” post that surfaced in a Bosnia search, with the kind of traction typical of a meme account.
  • By contrast, crypto-related accounts (Bitcoin/Jubjub) and football-related accounts (Chelsea) mostly remained in the tens to hundreds of likes, a scale more consistent with individual posting than major virality.
Posts
  • #1 @RapidResponse47 — 30,255 likes · 5,017 reposts · 1,163 replies · roughly 6.7 million views · posted 2026-09-18. No text, image attachment only. Its figures were in a completely different league even among Greenland search results, but whether it was a video could not be confirmed.
  • #4 @TheRicanMemes — 164 likes · roughly 2,600 views · 2026-09-19. “New species of Greenland shark captured on video for the first time ever, maybe,” the only post out of 40 that explicitly says “video.” It is partly a joke post, and its figures are small.
  • #28 @Scouse_Sammy — 4,178 likes · 680 replies · roughly 171,000 views · 2026-09-19. An angry post about royal-family gossip—whether Spencer releasing an exposé at this moment was meant to corner King Charles. Its high reply count shows how divisive the discussion became.
  • #36 @DailyMail — 260 likes · 198 reposts · 454 replies · roughly 379,000 views · 2026-09-17. A post repeating the headline “Russia ‘is plotting assassinations in US and European countries supporting Ukraine’.” It gained traction as text only, with no image.
  • #5 @springbris — 3,610 likes · 198 reposts · roughly 692,000 views · 2026-09-18. A long post criticizing Denmark’s far-right party, in the political-commentary category.
  • #17 @bylertayliviapr — 1,225 likes · roughly 6,300 views · 2026-09-17. A short meme: “jesus christ, BLINK BROTHER.” Views were relatively low for the like count, suggesting engagement largely contained within followers.
  • #31 @inter_afg — 2,292 likes · roughly 17,000 views · 2026-09-18. The context-free shout, “Happy national holidays LONG LIVE CHILE, YOU MOTHERFUCKEEEEER!!!,” surfaced in a Bosnia search. It is a classic example of meme culture in which the search term and post content do not align.
  • #38 @john322226 — 1,147 likes · 127 reposts · 72 replies · roughly 55,000 views · 2026-09-19. A football meme poking fun at Chelsea/Arsenal/Man Utd’s match against Brighton, gaining traction in the style of live match-day commentary.
Signals
  • What is rising is geopolitics, not video: Greenland/Denmark (sarcasm around U.S.–Danish dealings) and NATO/Russia (Baltic Sea tensions) account for six of the 10 search terms. Many posts attack the same major current-affairs story from different angles: U.S. pressure on Denmark and NATO–Russia tensions.
  • Mocking and sarcasm dominate the tone: Posts such as #2 by @JayRhodes2025 (“imaginary deal... Gaslight some more”) and #6 by @nosoupforgeorge (“HUGE CONGRATS to Donald Trump...so much winning”) mock official announcements. Posts expressing straightforward surprise or praise were almost nonexistent.
  • A surprising result: Although the brief seeks “viral videos,” only one of 40 posts, #4, contains the word “video” in its text. The numbers make it very clear that the collection criteria themselves were not video-focused.
  • Crypto/Jubjub posts have small numbers: Posts found through “#Bitcoin” and “Jubjub” were mostly in the tens of likes with fewer than a thousand views. Even if those terms were trending, actual engagement was quite weak.
Limits
  • The collection criteria were not suited to video in the first place: The search terms were Greenland / Denmark / #Bitcoin / NATO / Christ / Jubjub / Charles / Bosnia / Russia / Chelsea — trend terms from X Explore (politics, economics, and sports), not video-oriented queries such as “went viral” or “バズってる動画.” Unlike Reddit, no video-targeted search was conducted on X.
  • Video status cannot be determined: The collected data records only whether a photo is present (hasPhoto, true for 37 of 40 posts); it does not provide a flag distinguishing video from still images. Only #4 explicitly says “video” in its text, and it was not possible to confirm whether the other posts contained video.
  • Therefore, X does not meet the completion criterion of “10 videos with links, posters, and figures”: The eight posts above are all posts gaining traction on X, but only #4 can realistically be identified as a video. The findings are presented as collected, but the actual number of confirmed videos is effectively zero to one.
  • The Explore “Where” field is inconsistent: Trends 1, 2, 4, and 9 are labeled “Politics · Trending”; 3 is “Business & finance”; and 10 is “Sports” with no location, whereas 5–8 are explicitly labeled “Trending in Croatia.” This session mixed Croatia-oriented Explore results with non-location-specific global trends, so it cannot be presented as a list for one country.
  • The “Posts on X” column in the trend table was unavailable for every trend and is shown as “—.”

YouTube — Today’s Viral Videos (September 20, 2026)

I checked videos whose view counts have surged over roughly the last 24–72 hours on YouTube. YouTube’s official Trending page ended last year, so this review is based on the Japan trending ranking from the third-party trend aggregation site Digital Creators (snapshot as of 2026/09/20 07:44, digitalcreators.jp), with news and social-media coverage used to verify why each video gained traction.

  10. 【Minecraft】Please Remember the Rules You Set Three Months Ago and Clear the Game【Nichijo-gumi】 — Nichijo-gumi / 2026-09-18 / 1,040,722 views
    Watch
A distinctive challenge built around whether the group can remember rules they set for themselves three months earlier. It ranked highly thanks to its strong concept, even within Minecraft gameplay content.

Signals
  • A strong day for music videos: new MVs from major artists Fujii Kaze, BE:FIRST, and M!LK all ranked high. Each was released within one to three days, and music outlets such as Music Natalie and Billboard JAPAN published articles on the same day—a pattern in which media coverage accelerates viral momentum.
  • The “surprise announcement” format is strong: THE FIRST TAKE’s Ruka Nakagawa solo debut built anticipation with a teaser revealing only that viewers would not know who would appear, then grew through coordination between social media and the announcement itself.
  • Gameplay videos grow through constraints and concepts: both Dozle Corp. and Nichijo-gumi ranked highly with Minecraft concepts built around challenge rules, suggesting episodes with strong premises outperform straightforward gameplay videos.
  • For VTubers, collaborative projects involving many creators—such as “SURGE Town” and “Holo Koshien 2026”—appear more likely to draw views than solo streams.
Limits
  • YouTube’s official Trending page ended in 2025, and raw retrieval of YouTube search-result pages (youtube.com/results?...) or /feed/trending could not access JavaScript-rendered metadata beyond titles, such as view counts, channel names, and dates. This collection therefore uses a third-party aggregation site, digitalcreators.jp, as its main data source, based on a snapshot updated at 2026/09/20 07:44.
  • Like counts were sought from the YouTube video pages themselves (youtube.com/watch?v=...), but JavaScript-rendering limitations again allowed only titles and similar basic information to be read. The list therefore includes view counts only; like counts are unavailable.
  • Against the strict “last 24–48 hours” criterion, Fujii Kaze’s video, released on 9/17, is slightly older at approximately 72 hours. It is included as a reference because of its exceptionally strong growth.
  • Ten videos were collected, but whether they are genuinely accelerating at this exact moment cannot be fully confirmed. The figures are absolute view counts at the snapshot time, while growth rate and trending velocity depend on the third-party site’s display.

Signals
  • The strongest viral-video category on Bluesky is overwhelmingly clips of U.S. politics and current events. MeidasTouch alone had more than five videos trend simultaneously between roughly 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., taking all of the top three like counts with Newsom’s signing clip, Obama’s AI remarks, the Epstein survivor interview, and more.
  • Meanwhile, dedicated-tag feel-good and cat videos, such as #AGoodPlace and #Caturday, consistently generate several thousand likes. democratcats is a reliable account that continues posting more than 10 videos a day.
  • Posts that explicitly credit Reddit as their source, such as “Mood lifter” crediting r/MadeMeSmile, stand out. This suggests a flow where videos first go viral on Reddit, are imported to Bluesky, and become viral again.
  • Human-interest stories related to war and conflict, such as the elderly Ukrainian trumpet player, do not reach political-news figures but tend to show higher reply rates, meaning a larger share of viewers discuss their reactions in comments.
  • Bluesky video virality generally lacks the explosive scale seen on X or TikTok, where posts can reach tens or hundreds of thousands of likes. The top tier is in the several-thousand-like range, and content clusters into four patterns: political gaffes or highlight clips, soothing animal/child content, war-related human stories, and feel-good sports stories.
Limits
  • Bluesky’s public search API (app.bsky.feed.searchPosts) consistently returned HTTP 403 for every query, including “バズってる動画,” “話題の動画,” and “viral video,” so keyword search could not be used at all.
  • Bluesky’s official video-specific trending feed, “Video” (thevids, operated by bsky.app and described as “Trending videos in the Bluesky network”), could provide feed information but repeatedly returned HTTP 502 server errors when retrieving the post list. This was likely a backend outage that day.
  • Because those two sources were unavailable, the collection instead retrieved the general “What’s Hot” trending feed, extracted only posts containing video embeds (app.bsky.embed.video), and then additionally retrieved recent posts from the accounts found there. It is therefore not a comprehensive search for viral videos, but a sample limited to videos that stood out in Bluesky’s general Discover feed.
  • Personalized feeds such as “▶️Videos For You” required login authentication and could not be accessed.
  • Since search was unavailable, no Japanese-language viral videos could be found. All 10 items above are English-language posts, mainly from U.S. political and news accounts. Japanese Bluesky video trends could not be verified from this dataset.

Lemmy

Lemmy — Looking for Today’s “Viral Videos” (as of 2026-09-20)

To give the conclusion first, there was no video on Lemmy that could honestly be described as “this is going viral today.” As explained in Limits below, Lemmy does not expose view or share counts, so the kind of “trending” assessment used on Reddit, X, or YouTube cannot really be made. Instead, this collection picked posts made in video-specific communities over the past 24–48 hours that had comparatively strong scores (upvotes) and comment counts.

Communities
  • !«メールアドレス» — a general-purpose video-sharing community. This was the most active place in the collection, with more than 10 new posts in the past 48 hours alone. Subscriber count was not displayed on the page.
  • !«メールアドレス» — its name suggests potentially viral content, but recent posts were months or years old, so it is now inactive.
  • !«メールアドレス» — still active, but most posts are images/GIFs and there are few videos.
  • !«メールアドレス» (44 subscribers, verified via https://lemmy.world/api/v3/search?q=viral&type_=Communities&listing_type=All) — latest post was about three years ago; effectively abandoned.
  • !«メールアドレス» (117 subscribers) — likewise abandoned, with the latest post about three years old.
Posts

Recent posts from !«メールアドレス» (retrieved via https://lemmy.world/api/v3/post/list?community_name=videos&sort=Active&type_=All&limit=15; selections posted within the previous 48 hours as of 2026-09-20). View counts are unavailable, so score = upvotes and comment counts are listed.

  9. “33 things to do instead of doomscrolling” — Posted by: InternetCitizen2 / score 23 · 5 comments / posted: 2026-09-18T04:13 UTC (slightly outside 48 hours, included as a reference)

Signals
  • Even the highest scores—112 for “One Lucky Koala” and 103 for “How Did Nearly Every American City”—were the collection’s maximums. Compared with the idea of virality on Reddit or X, these are two to three orders of magnitude smaller.
  • Genres were scattered: animals, urban issues, unsolved mysteries, comedy mod videos, and current events. There was no shared Lemmy-native topic or audio trend. At most, animal/nature content (the koala) and social-criticism content (urban planning/economics) appeared more likely to gain traction.
  • Communities using the “viral” label, the !viralvideos group, were broadly inactive and do not function as practical places for sharing actual viral videos. Only the general !videos community remained active.
  • Keyword searches for “viral video,” “went viral,” and “viral clip” mostly surfaced links to news articles reporting after the fact on events that had gone viral on TikTok or YouTube, rather than video posts themselves.
Limits
  • Lemmy has no concept of view or share counts; only upvotes and comments can measure momentum. Therefore, there were zero posts that strictly met the completion criterion of “videos whose views rose rapidly over 24–48 hours.” Instead, this review lists nine video posts published in video-specific communities within the previous 48 hours that had relatively strong scores; it did not reach 10.
  • lemmy.ml could not be meaningfully examined because both its /search page and API were inaccessible and returned only redirects. lemm.ee also redirected its API to join-lemmy.org, preventing search results from being retrieved.
  • No Lemmy communities or posts corresponding to the Japanese phrases “バズってる動画” or “話題の動画” were found. Lemmy is an English-language-centered fediverse, and Japanese-user communities themselves are almost nonexistent.
  • !PublicFreakout and !viralvideos communities were investigated, but their latest posts were from months to three years ago and could not be used for this brief.

Recommended actions

  • For the next X collection, use video-specific search terms such as “went viral” rather than Explore trend terms.
  • Retry Bluesky’s search API and its video-specific “thevids” feed later to determine whether the 403/502 errors were temporary.
  • Track Japanese-language viral videos primarily through YouTube via digitalcreators.jp; do not expect much from Reddit, Bluesky, or Lemmy.
  • Since Reddit rarely contains direct video links, follow outgoing links within threads one layer deeper, to Instagram, TikTok, and news articles.
  • Exclude inactive !viralvideos communities on Lemmy next time and focus on !«メールアドレス».

Data quality notes

YouTube and Bluesky each supplied a full set of 10 items with links and figures. Reddit had almost no direct video links and used its own scores as a proxy. X’s search terms were not video-focused, leaving only one post that could meaningfully be confirmed as a video. Lemmy has no view-count concept and supplied only nine items, using upvotes as proxies.
