Daily Viral Video — 2026-09-24
Today's strongest video-virality pattern was not a fun meme or format, but a dynamic in which real incidents and news spread through video and produce real-world consequences. The Jamui incident on Reddit and the Madrid eviction protest on Bluesky independently demonstrated this.
Today's Viral Video Roundup — 2026-09-24
Today was notable less for videos that grew through fun formats, memes, or sounds, and more for cases where raw real-world events spread as videos and led to real consequences. On Reddit, a business professional nearly lost her job because of an out-of-context video; on Bluesky, protests erupted in Madrid over the eviction of an 87-year-old woman, with news outlets repeatedly posting footage from the scene; and on Lemmy, a video of illegal parking obstructing firefighters stood out clearly in the “outrage” category. Meanwhile, X (collected through trending terms) was dominated by AI video-generation demos in the “I made AI create this” vein, while YouTube's trending videos centered on regular content from popular creators, such as new music videos and gaming highlights. Across all five platforms, there were surprisingly few of the classic accidental one-off viral hits.
Across platforms
- Videos of real events spread → produce real-world consequences. Reddit (a video of an assault on girls in Jamui, Bihar led to an FIR—a formal police investigation) and Bluesky (a video of the eviction of 87-year-old Maricarmen in Madrid prompted protests, which then spread again through video) both showed the same pattern: videos set real-world events in motion. These kinds of videos outperformed pure entertainment today.
- The same event being covered by multiple accounts and outlets is itself a strong virality signal. On Reddit, three separate subreddits (r/Patna, r/IndiaTodayLIVE, r/india) independently surfaced the Jamui incident. On Bluesky, three news outlets (elDiario, El País, Público), plus a celebrity reaction video, covered the Madrid protest. Rather than a single post's score, “appearing everywhere at once” was the stronger measure of virality today.
- There were fewer fun, one-off viral videos than expected. Reddit explicitly found almost no purely viral videos driven by formats, jokes, or sounds. X was not searched specifically for videos in this pass, and only 4 of 40 posts were confirmed to contain actual video. YouTube trending was led by regular content from well-known streamers and artists, with little sense of serendipity. Lemmy, too, mainly contained delayed reposts of material that had gone viral elsewhere. The category the brief expected—interesting videos born today—was thin across all five social networks.
- Some videos grow on visual appeal alone, even without captions or explanation. Bluesky's bicycle pond-crossing competition video and one-line-caption vertical shorts are examples. Today, Bluesky especially highlighted the pattern in which a visually striking image drives views more than contextual explanation.
Platform by platform
Reddit — Twelve threads were spread across twelve different subreddits, with no concentrated home for the day's viral videos. The highest-scoring post involved Bill Ackman sharing an out-of-context gym altercation video that led to a KPMG manager being suspended (5,358 points). However, the fact that a video of an assault on girls in Jamui, Bihar independently surfaced in three communities was a stronger cross-platform signal than any single score. Japanese search terms (バズってる動画/話題の動画) did not surface a single Japanese-language item, and the collection did not reach ten distinct videos.
X — This stage did not use searches aimed at the brief's “viral videos.” Instead, it used terms taken directly from X Explore trends at the time of the session (Cardano, Taylor, Opus 5.5, etc.), and the trend list itself was geolocated to Croatia. Of the 40 collected posts, only four were confirmed as videos: AI animation made with Claude Opus 5.5 (@kevin_t_ngo, @riku720720, @seiiiiiiiiiiru, @npaka123). Surprise at the speed and low cost of production was the core reason for their traction. The collection did not reach the target of ten videos.
YouTube — Nearly ten videos were identified using CreatorDB trending data (US and Japan). Two main patterns emerged: rapid growth immediately after official releases, such as Number_i's first single after moving to Atlantic Records and the theme song for the film Ranabaali; and gaming/clip content from Doggie, Jynxzi, Yuukoru, Junichi Kato, and Pekora rising through “high-difficulty challenge” and “restriction playthrough” formats. Trending was dominated by regular content from popular creators rather than accidental viral clips.
Bluesky — Ten videos were collected from the What's Hot feed. However, five of the top ten focused on the same Madrid eviction protest, making this less “ten independent topics” than “one major story plus several individually viral videos.” The search API continuously returned 403 errors for since/until, preventing a precise filter limited to the past 24 hours.
Lemmy — There is almost no TikTok-like viral-video culture, and no Japanese-language community was found. Because view counts are unavailable, upvotes and comment counts had to be used as indicators; only eight videos were collected. A video of illegal parking obstructing firefighting efforts (score 101, 61 comments) clearly stood apart, but overall the platform mainly hosted delayed reposts of content that had already gone viral elsewhere, especially on X. Almost no original Lemmy-born virality was observed.
What to watch
- Video of an assault on girls in Jamui, Bihar — Surfaced independently in three separate subreddits and led police to open an FIR. Watch for follow-up reporting. (Reddit, https://www.reddit.com/r/IndiaTodayLIVE/comments/1wm7j5u/)
- Madrid eviction protest — Protests are expanding following the eviction of 87-year-old Maricarmen. Three news outlets are following the story with daily video coverage. (Bluesky, https://bsky.app/profile/eldiario.es/post/3mw6txrvsk22y)
- Bill Ackman/KPMG out-of-context video controversy — As a case in which a private individual lost her job, it could develop further through litigation or follow-up coverage. (Reddit, https://www.reddit.com/r/Fauxmoi/comments/1wnakr2/)
- AI video-generation demos using Claude Opus 5.5 — Posts claiming that videos can be made in minutes for a few hundred yen are appearing in rapid succession. Watch whether AI video generation develops into a new viral genre. (X, https://x.com/riku720720/status/2102515055116063144)
- “Endhayya Saami,” theme song for the film Ranabaali — A case where pre-release promotion went viral before the full song surged. Worth continuing to watch as a cross-border hit in Telugu-language content. (YouTube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoBTw-1vzyY)
- Video of illegal parking obstructing firefighting efforts — Unusually high-scoring for Lemmy. Worth checking whether it spreads again on other social networks. (Lemmy, https://lemmy.world/post/52237917)
Recommendations
- For X collection, switch from “today's trending terms” to video-specific searches such as “viral video / went viral” to get closer to the type of video virality the brief calls for.
- Once the Bluesky search API's
since/until403 issue is resolved, rerun a search limited to the past 24 hours to identify individual viral videos beyond the one major story. - Continue following the Jamui incident and Madrid eviction protest in future reports as examples of videos moving real-world events, including subsequent developments such as investigation results and the direction of the protests.
- The video IDs for Junichi Kato and Pekora on YouTube could not be fully identified because multiple similar titles exist; next time, open the video pages directly to confirm them.
- Since Lemmy only offers score and comment counts as metrics, always state clearly that these cannot be compared directly with view and like counts on other social networks.
- Add AI video-generation demos (such as Opus 5.5) to a watchlist for ongoing tracking as a new viral genre on X.
Data quality
- X: Did not meet the completion criteria. Collection was based on trending terms rather than video-focused searches, and only 4 of 40 posts were confirmed as videos. Most of the trend list was geolocated to Croatia and cannot be treated as global trends.
- Lemmy: Did not meet the completion criteria (8 of 10 videos). Apart from the video-specific community
!«メールアドレス», video communities were barely active, so the overall pool was small. No Japanese-language community could be confirmed. - Reddit: Twelve threads were collected, but several referred to the same Jamui incident, so the set did not reach ten distinct videos. Japanese search terms did not surface any Japanese-language content.
- Bluesky: Ten videos were secured, but half of the top results focused on the same news story—the Madrid eviction. The search API's date filters returned 403, and the video-specific feed “thevids” also could not be retrieved because of a 502 error.
- YouTube: Nearly ten videos were secured, but JavaScript-rendered search results could not be retrieved, so verification shifted to CreatorDB plus individual web searches. Two videos (Junichi Kato and Pekora) could not have their IDs fully identified because multiple similar titles existed.
Platform-specific breakdown

No single subreddit dominates — the theme is spread thin across very different communities (entertainment gossip, India news, hobby/fan subs, general advice), rather than concentrated in one "viral video" hub.
What people say
- Thread 3 (r/Fauxmoi, 5,358 points, 219 comments, 2026-09-22): KPMG manager Yuen Lee placed on administrative leave after billionaire Bill Ackman shares viral, out-of-context gym altercation video — the highest-scoring thread in the set. The OP frames it as a "weaponized, selectively edited clip" that cost a private citizen her job. Top comment: u/VulcanIRL (1,504 pts) — "I hate Bill Ackman so much dude."
- Thread 8 (r/DC_Cinematic, 1,822 points, 67 comments, 2026-09-19): Aaron Pierre hilariously reacts to the viral clip from 'Lanterns', sourced from an Instagram reel. Top comment (240 pts) says the fandom "rallied around enjoying his slips rather than insulting him."
- Thread 4 (r/ElectroBOOM, 949 points, 28 comments, 2026-09-22): "Fucking crazy video" — no description of the clip itself survived in the collected excerpt, but comments guess "This gotta be a Baltic country" and call it "legit cool as fuck" (19 pts) — reads as an extreme-stunt/electrical clip typical of that sub.
- Thread 6 (r/dancingwiththestars, 258 points, 60 comments, 2026-09-22): "Blooper reel for Viral Hits Night" — the show built a themed night around "viral" songs; top comment (202 pts) pushes back: "Remember when these fun moments were actually in the show and not social media exclusives?"
- Thread 1 (r/founder, 330 points, 122 comments, 2026-09-17): "I got 123M views on Tik Tok in 3 months - How I consistently go viral" — a growth-hacking how-to. Got fact-checked in comments: u/HereToKillEuronymous (4 pts) — "This is one year. Not 3 months."
- Thread 5 (r/popculturechat, 481 points, 31 comments, 2026-09-23): Robert Pattinson shares his favorite YouTube video(s) during promotional for Primetime — old-internet clips (Potter Puppet Pals, Charlie the Unicorn) resurfacing via a celebrity co-sign. Top comment (206 pts): "potter puppet pals just sent me into a time warp."
- Threads 7, 11, 12 (r/Patna 87 pts/26 comments/2026-09-21; r/IndiaTodayLIVE 130 pts/3 comments/2026-09-21; r/india 29 pts/1 comment/2026-09-23) all cover the same real-world event: a video of two Class 10 students molested and harassed by a group of men in Jamui, Bihar. r/Patna thread OP: "insta pe bhi sab jagah" ("[viral] on Instagram everywhere too"). r/IndiaTodayLIVE thread notes the video prompted police to open an FIR. u/UniqueAd8864 (2 pts) on that thread: "Just a reminder that this only came to light cause it was recorded."
- Thread 2 (r/MOofEverything, 6 points, 0 comments, 2026-09-22): A Class 10 boy from Bihar's Jamui is being praised online after a video showed him trying to protect a girl — possibly the "hero" angle on the same Jamui incident as threads 7/11/12, but zero comments and no body text were collected, so this can't be confirmed.
- Thread 9 (r/AskReddit, 11 points, 65 comments, 2026-09-23): "What is the worst video you've ever seen on YouTube?" — a nostalgia/shock-content thread, not about anything trending today.
- Thread 10 (r/rescene, 27 points, 22 comments, 2026-09-18): What are your favourite YouTube videos featuring RESCENE? — k-pop fans trading favorite clips of the group; ongoing fan curation, not a single breakout video.
Signals
- Rising: video-as-weapon. The single biggest story by score (thread 3) isn't a "fun viral clip" — it's a video clipped out of context and used to get someone fired, with Reddit's sympathy running strongly against the person who publicized it (Bill Ackman), not the subject of the clip.
- Rising: a video's virality driving real consequences. The Jamui, Bihar assault video (threads 7, 11, 12, and possibly 2) is the one story that independently surfaced across three unrelated subreddits from three different search terms — a stronger cross-community virality signal than any single thread's score, and reddit explicitly ties its spread to the FIR/police investigation that followed.
- Dismissed: the "how I go viral" growth-hack post (thread 1) got its central claim (123M views in 3 months) disputed in the top comments as actually a one-year timeline — reddit's skepticism toward self-promotional virality claims is visible and immediate.
- Surprised: almost nothing in this set is the kind of "fun format/meme/sound" viral video the brief is hunting for. What Reddit is actually discussing under "viral video" this week skews toward (a) political/accountability clips being weaponized, (b) real-world crime/violence footage driving news coverage, and (c) nostalgia or celebrity-curation lists. Genuinely new, purely entertaining viral clips are thin on the ground here.
- Disagreement: r/dancingwiththestars split over its "Viral Hits Night" — some comments enjoy the theme, others feel it's manufactured for social clips rather than organic TV moments ("social media exclusives").
Limits
- The worker's collection returned exactly one thread per subreddit across 12 subreddits — a shallow, broad sweep rather than deep coverage of any single community; it's unclear whether deeper results existed per search term that weren't captured.
- The Japanese search terms ("バズってる動画", "話題の動画") did not surface any Japanese-language content — they matched unrelated English threads (r/ElectroBOOM, r/AskReddit) instead, so this platform gives no signal on Japanese viral-video discussion.
- Reddit itself rarely carries the video's own play/like counts for off-platform clips (TikTok, Instagram, X) — only the Reddit post's score and comment count are native Reddit numbers. Where the brief asks for 再生数・いいね数 of the video itself, only thread 8 included a direct source link (an Instagram reel); the rest reference off-platform video without a countable view/like figure.
- Could not confirm whether thread 2 (boy protecting a girl, praised online) and threads 7/11/12 (Jamui molestation video) describe the same underlying video or two separate clips from the same incident — the collected excerpts don't resolve this and the pages could not be opened directly (Reddit blocks WebFetch).
- Per the brief's target of 10 videos with link/poster/numbers, this collection does not reach 10 distinct videos — several threads (7, 11, 12, possibly 2) plausibly describe the same video, and several others (1, 6, 9, 10) discuss viral-video culture rather than pointing to one specific clip with its own numbers. Only 12 threads total were available to search from.

Accounts
- @OpenAI(official account)— Posted the one overwhelmingly large hit in this collection (the GPT-6 Sol/Luna announcement), with 52,144 likes and roughly 8.7 million views. This was not a scattershot pattern, but a single massive hit.
- @kevin_t_ngo(Kevin Ngo)— Posted one GIF animation rendered in Blender with Claude Opus 5.5, with 2,379 likes and roughly 148,000 views. A viral post within the AI video-creator community.
- @riku720720(Rikuo)— Posted one pixel animation made with Opus 5.5, with 1,036 likes and roughly 206,000 views. Surprise that it took less than five minutes was the key reason it grew.
- @seiiiiiiiiiiru(video creator using SEIIIRUAI)— Posted one launch video made with Opus 5.5 × Higgsfield × AfterEffects, with 466 likes, roughly 26,000 views, and a claimed production cost of 150 yen. The low cost generated the reaction.
- @npaka123(Eiichi Furukawa)— Posted one narrated post having Opus 5.5 create a shooting game, with 277 likes and roughly 30,000 views. A standard viral pattern for an AI implementation account.
- @iamamarach / @4k_taylorr / @Charlliegpt / @Lee_TRK(one post each)— Under the trend name “Taylor,” entirely separate topics were mixed together (Taylor Swift, a Big Brother contestant named Taylor, and gossip). Each account posted just one high-engagement post; no one person was posting repeatedly.
- @Sargon_of_Akkad(Carl Benjamin, political influencer)— Posted one England-related historical/immigration debate post, with 5,444 likes and roughly 95,000 views. A typical case of a text argument outperforming video.
- @predrag1982 / @Nadalina04 / @Zollyka68 / @Hibrid990 / @IvanRohak(Cardano/$SONG community)— Small accounts repeatedly posted nearly identical wording: “Stay long on $SONG #Cardano $ADA.” This looks less like organic discussion than repeated templated posts by coin promoters.
- @kelvinoyibo2(H0ld.sats)— Posted three times in the NFT community, totaling 410 likes. This is the type that accumulates engagement through repeated posts by the same person.

Engagement was low, but posting frequency was high. It looks more like coordinated promotion than organic conversation.
Signals
- The most genuinely video-like viral material on X today was AI video generation using Claude Opus 5.5. All four posts from @kevin_t_ngo, @riku720720, @seiiiiiiiiiiru, and @npaka123 follow the “I had AI make this” pattern, with low cost and fast production—minutes and a few hundred yen—at the heart of their appeal.
- Meanwhile, the trend label “Taylor” actually combines three distinct contexts: Taylor Swift herself, a Big Brother contestant named Taylor, and Taylor Swift gossip analysis. Text- and image-based discussion is growing more than video content.
- @OpenAI's GPT-6 Sol/Luna announcement was overwhelmingly the largest post in the collection (52,000 likes, 8.7 million views), but it is closer to a viral product announcement than a viral video.
- Cardano/$SONG and NFT posts were numerous, but many had only single-digit to low-double-digit likes and used repeated wording. They resemble standardized promotional activity within a specific community more than organic rapid growth.
- England-related discussion contained two entirely different directions under the same trend name: anticipation of football viewing (@NealGardner_) and immigration/ethnicity debate (@Sargon_of_Akkad).
Limits
- The posts collected at this stage were not the results of searches targeting “viral videos.” The search terms (Cardano, $SONG, Opus 5.5, Taylor, Astra, England, #uranium, OpenAI, Croats, NFTs) were topic names appearing on X Explore during the session, unlike Reddit's video-focused terms such as “went viral / viral video / バズってる動画.”
- The Explore trend list itself was largely geolocated to the session's connection location, Croatia (6 of 10 items were labeled “Trending in Croatia”). It cannot be presented as a global trend list.
- The collected data for 40 posts included
hasPhotobut no flag identifying video. Only four posts could be confirmed from their text as video, GIF, or animation: the Opus 5.5 posts from @kevin_t_ngo, @riku720720, @seiiiiiiiiiiru, and @npaka123. The remaining 36 posts were image-based or text-only and cannot be described as video content. - For these reasons, the completion criterion of ten viral videos was not met. Only four posts can be called videos; the rest were topics growing on X today but not video content.

Channel: Pekora Ch. Usada Pekora / Views: roughly 1.1 million (entered trending as a video posted the previous day)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKJpG9-zd6Y (※Multiple similar titles exist within the series, so an exact match could not be confirmed)
→ The newest entry in popular VTuber Pekora's first-time playthrough series of the remastered high-difficulty roguelike Torneko's Great Adventure. -
Uchikubi Gokumon Doukoukai “Choudo ii”
Channel: Uchikubi Gokumon Doukoukai-GOKUMON- / Posted: 22 hours ago (released 2026/09/23) / Views: roughly 326,000
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZZDRXyEtlc
→ A new music video from a band popular for songs about work and everyday relatable situations. It entered trending the day after release. -
SixTONES “My Only” -Dance Practice ver.-
Channel: SixTONES / Posted: the previous day / Views: roughly 892,000
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLywx93HWkE
→ A dance-practice video for the group's 18th single, “Dance Forever/My Only.” It entered trending as new-song-related content from a popular idol group.
Signals
- Today's top trending videos were less about genuine one-off viral hits and more about regular content from popular streamers and artists—stream digests, new music videos, and dance-practice videos—surging immediately after posting. Purely accidental viral clips were scarce.
- Gaming streams and edited gameplay clips (Doggie, Jynxzi, Yuukoru, Junichi Kato, Pekora) accounted for about half of trending. “High-difficulty challenges,” “restriction playthroughs,” and “one step away from success” emerged as common formats driving view counts.
- Music content showed both immediate-release momentum (Number_i, SixTONES, Uchikubi Gokumon Doukoukai) and the pattern where promotional material goes viral first and the main release then grows (Endhayya Saami).
- In US trends, music videos and gaming streams were joined by many movie trailers, including new Netflix titles and Paper Tiger. These were closer to attention generated by official releases than organic virality.
Limits
- Direct WebFetch requests to YouTube search-result pages (
youtube.com/results?search_query=...) could not retrieve the JavaScript-rendered body content, including video titles and view counts; they returned only footer navigation. This collection therefore switched to cross-checking CreatorDB trend aggregation pages with individual web searches. - “Something Is Off About My Dog…” (posted by a channel named LookOut2DD, roughly 1.6 million views in US trending) was also considered, but search-result summaries gave conflicting descriptions—both a dog-related anomaly and a Minecraft horror/meme short—and the correct video URL could not be identified. It was excluded because reliable verification was not possible.
- Individual view and subscriber counts varied by timing and tool. For example, sources placed Jynxzi's video between 570,000 and 790,000 views. Treat these as snapshots from 2026/09/23, not exact real-time values.
- Junichi Kato's and Pekora's videos have multiple nearly identical titles within the same series, so the video IDs for the exact items in the trending ranking could not be identified with 100% certainty; nearby candidate links were included instead.
- Like and comment counts could not be obtained for most videos; only Jynxzi's video could be confirmed.
- Trends outside the US and Japan, such as South Korea and India, were not investigated individually. Telugu-language videos such as Endhayya Saami were found only through US trends.
Bluesky
Bluesky — Daily Viral Video
This is the result of searching Bluesky's search API (app.bsky.feed.searchPosts) directly and querying the official trending feed “What's Hot” (app.bsky.feed.generator/whats-hot) for videos gaining traction on 2026-09-23 to 24 (today and the preceding 24–48 hours).
Accounts
- @eldiario.es — An independent Spanish news outlet. Today it posted three consecutive videos about “87-year-old Maricarmen being evicted by a vulture fund” (protest begins → expands → interview with Maricarmen). One post alone received 1,789 likes, among the highest in this collection.
https://bsky.app/profile/eldiario.es - @elpais.com(EL PAÍS)・@publico.es(Público)— Also reported on the same protest over Maricarmen's eviction with video. Major and mid-sized Spanish outlets simultaneously posted footage from the scene.
https://bsky.app/profile/elpais.com / https://bsky.app/profile/publico.es - @txomin52.bsky.social — Reposted a clip of television personality Alba Carrillo becoming furious about the eviction. This is the type that grows as a reaction clip rather than as news coverage.
https://bsky.app/profile/txomin52.bsky.social - @lucagalletti.bsky.social(Luca)— Posted one video of the pond-crossing competition at the Canadian mountain-bike event Crankworx. Politically neutral, visually compelling content that received the most likes in this set.
https://bsky.app/profile/lucagalletti.bsky.social - @jonathanslater.bsky.social / @lorennacleary.bsky.social — Individual accounts each posted a short vertical video in approximately 576×1024 format that reached What's Hot. Their captions are just a few words; the videos are growing through their own pull rather than explanation.
https://bsky.app/profile/jonathanslater.bsky.social / https://bsky.app/profile/lorennacleary.bsky.social - Searching “viral video” in English mostly returns bots or spam: accounts such as @angelguadiania.bsky.social (posting “Supernatural-Paranormal” YouTube videos every five minutes), @hippymama.bsky.social, and @iwantmycountry26.bsky.social continually distribute the same YouTube/TikTok links with hashtags such as “#viral #fyp.” They receive only 0–2 likes and are not organic trends.

A video of the “World Championship Pond Crossing” at Sugarloaf Bike Park in Canada, where cyclists attempt to ride across a pond. Unrelated to politics or gossip, this was the video with the most likes in the collection on visual impact alone. -

A vertical video (576×1024, roughly 9 MB) captioned only “I'll always love this.” There is no alt text and its contents cannot be identified, but its reach through a one-line caption plus video is a typical What's Hot pattern on Bluesky. -

A short vertical video (576×1024, roughly 4 MB) captioned only “Hikes up my skirt a little more…”. There is no alt text and the content is unknown, but the format itself—one-line caption plus short video—appears likely to reach What's Hot. -

A video advocating a Brazilian political slogan in support of Lula/PT. Though from another region, it was another example of “politics × video” gaining traction on the same day.
Reference (content could not be confirmed and is not included among the ten above):
- @gonzalez58.bsky.social(463 likes · 2026-09-23 18:18)https://bsky.app/profile/gonzalez58.bsky.social/post/3mw7e3homvk2w and @lamari.bsky.social(508 likes · 2026-09-23 17:48)https://bsky.app/profile/lamari.bsky.social/post/3mw7cfa27wk2a were also videos from the same time period, with posting times nearly matching the Madrid protest coverage above and chant-like captions including “Olé olé” and “Luchar, luchar y no parar.” They are likely alternative shots of the protest, but are not counted in the main list because no alt text was available and the video content could not be directly confirmed.
Signals
- The largest video-virality story on Bluesky today was one event in Madrid, Spain: 87-year-old Maricarmen was evicted by a vulture fund, and a protest then occurred outside the home of Ayuso, president of the Community of Madrid. Three news outlets (elDiario, El País, Público) repeatedly posted footage, while a reaction clip from TV personality Alba Carrillo also grew—this was the collection's clearest pattern of “one real news event → distribution through multiple formats.”
- Several individual posts consisting only of a one-line caption plus a short vertical video (around 576×1024) grew substantially (@jonathanslater, @lorennacleary). They can enter Bluesky's What's Hot algorithm even with no explanation or alt text.
- A sports/spectacle video—the bicycle pond-crossing competition—was the standalone leader in views and likes without political content. If the visual itself is powerful, it can grow across borders regardless of news or gossip.
- Searching directly for “viral video” in English yields almost no genuinely viral videos; instead, results are filled with spam and engagement-seeking bot accounts repeatedly distributing the same YouTube Shorts/TikTok links with “#viral #fyp.” On Bluesky, the word “viral” itself is not a useful indicator of viral videos.
Limits
- Bluesky's public search API,
public.api.bsky.app/xrpc/app.bsky.feed.searchPosts, consistently returned 403 Forbidden during this session and could not be used. Search worked after switching the host toapi.bsky.appwithout “public,” but addingsince/untilparameters in any format caused 403 errors, making it impossible to filter for “popular posts only within the past 24 hours.” - For that reason, keyword searches for “viral video” and “went viral” could retrieve either recent raw logs without a popularity metric (
sort=latest) or all-time top results dominated by 2023–2025 posts (sort=top). Meaningful discovery for today and the last 48 hours therefore came not from search but from the official “What's Hot” trending feed (app.bsky.feed.generator/whats-hot). - The video-specific “thevids” feed (
app.bsky.feed.generator/thevids, operated by @bsky.app) was tested but its feed generator continuously returned 502 Bad Gateway, preventing retrieval. - Bluesky's web search page (
bsky.app/search?q=...) is a JavaScript-rendered SPA, so direct fetching returned only headers and not post bodies. App-based search and the trending tab requiring login were not accessible. - The short personal videos from @jonathanslater, @lorennacleary, @gonzalez58, and @lamari have no alt text, so their actual contents—who is doing what—could not be verified from API metadata. Beyond the captions and vertical-video format (around 576×1024), any interpretation would be speculative.
- The criterion of ten videos was met, but five of the top ten concentrate on the single story of Maricarmen's eviction in Madrid. This should be understood not as ten independent topics, but as one major story plus several individually viral videos.
Lemmy
Lemmy — Today's Viral Videos
Lemmy has almost no TikTok-like viral-video culture, even when searched, and no Japanese-language community could be found. It also does not display view counts; score (upvotes) and comment count are the only available indicators. Even so, this search focused on !«メールアドレス», the community where the most videos gather, to find posts gaining traction during the most recent 24–48 hours (2026-09-22 to 23).
Communities
!«メールアドレス»— 18.7K subscribers (10.9K local), with 279 active people per day. It is the most active video-related community, though it receives only several posts per day. (https://lemmy.world/c/videos)!«メールアドレス»— 9,660 subscribers. Mostly static-image memes rather than videos, with few recent video posts. (https://lemmy.world/c/funny)!PublicFreakout(lemmy.world) — A community for everyday conflict videos, but its latest post is from 2026-06-02, with no activity in the most recent 48 hours.!«メールアドレス»— Its latest post is from 2026-09-04, likewise with no recent activity.!«メールアドレス»— More photo-based than video-based. It has recent posts (9/21–9/23), but they are more trivia/image content than viral videos.
Posts
All are from !«メールアドレス». Since Lemmy does not show view counts, score (upvotes) and comment counts are used as growth indicators. Posters are Lemmy usernames rather than the original video creators, and most posts are reposts.

Signals
- On Lemmy, “going viral” can only be measured through rapid growth in upvotes and comments, not views. The clear standout over the 48-hour period was the video of illegal parking obstructing firefighting (score 101, 61 comments), which performed noticeably above typical posts in the community, generally scoring in the 10–30 range.
- Most repost sources were YouTube, X (Twitter), or imgchest.com (direct video hosting). There were no posts originating from TikTok or Instagram Reels. Short-form video culture itself is weak on Lemmy.
- Topics fell into three groups: firefighting/rescue, cosplay/prank comedy, and politically charged outrage videos. They differ substantially from Japanese-language viral-video trends, with no sound- or dance-driven trends at all.
- Most topics were delayed reposts of material that had already gone viral elsewhere, particularly on X. Almost no original Lemmy-born virality was found.
Limits
- The completion target of ten videos with links/posters/numbers was not met: only eight videos were found. Across Lemmy, video-specific communities other than
!«メールアドレス»were largely inactive (PublicFreakouthad been inactive for more than three months, whilegifshad been inactive for three weeks), leaving a small source pool. - Lemmy's API/UI provides neither view counts nor like counts. Score (upvotes) and comment counts are listed instead; these metrics cannot be compared directly with those of other social networks.
- A Japanese search for “バズってる動画” (
https://lemmy.world/api/v3/search?q=バズってる動画) returned zero results. No Japanese-language Lemmy community could be confirmed. lemm.eeredirected search API requests tojoin-lemmy.org, preventing retrieval, whilelemmy.mlreturned no posts matching this brief's period (9/22–9/24) for searches such as “viral clip.”
Recommended actions
- Shift X collection away from today's trending terms and toward video-specific searches such as “viral video / went viral.”
- Once Bluesky's
since/until403 search-API issue is resolved, collect again with a 24-hour filter to recover individual viral videos beyond the one major story. - Continue tracking the Jamui incident and Madrid eviction protest in future reports as examples of video moving real-world events.
- Because Junichi Kato's and Pekora's YouTube videos have multiple similarly titled entries, open the video pages directly next time to determine the exact IDs.
- Always note that Lemmy only provides score/comment counts and that these cannot be compared directly with view counts on other social networks.
Data quality notes
X was collected using trend terms and only 4 of 40 posts were actual videos; Lemmy yielded 8 rather than 10 videos. Of the five platforms required by the brief, these two failed to meet the completion target. Reddit, Bluesky, and YouTube each secured roughly ten videos, but constraints remain: duplicate coverage of the same incident on Reddit, half of Bluesky's top items concentrated on the same news story, and two YouTube video IDs unconfirmed.
