KEN’S CAT LOG

Daily Viral Video — 2026-09-22

It was a day dominated less by funny videos themselves than by political statement clips and cross-platform stories (Aaron Pierre’s accent slip, the BRICS nuts video, and the Bihar incident video). No videos could be confirmed on X.

Political statement clips, breaking-news footage, and cross-platform stories stood out more than straightforward funny videos today. The biggest recurring stories were actor Aaron Pierre’s accent slip, officials eating nuts at the BRICS summit, and an incident video from Bihar, India. One quieter but notable theme was the growing concern on both Reddit and YouTube about AI-generated videos made to look real. X was the exception: I couldn’t reliably identify any actual videos there this time, so I’ll be candid about that limitation.

Today’s Viral Video Roundup — 2026-09-22

I checked five social platforms today (Reddit, X, YouTube, Bluesky, and Lemmy), and the short version is: this was not a day when one purely funny video exploded everywhere. What stood out instead were political statement clips, breaking-news footage, and cross-platform stories—an actor’s accent slip, nuts being eaten during the BRICS summit, and an incident video from Bihar, India. Another quietly important theme was concern about AI-generated videos made to look convincingly real, which came up on both Reddit and YouTube. X was the one disappointment: I wasn’t able to collect actual video posts effectively, so I’ll be upfront about that.

Across platforms

  • The same stories are breaking out across several social networks at once: Actor Aaron Pierre’s "SPEAK UHP" moment, when his accent came through during filming for Lanterns, created a two-stage YouTube viral cycle—first the clip, then Pierre’s own reaction—and was also discussed on Reddit’s r/DC_Cinematic (YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/fsMC3ISEwXo、Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/DC_Cinematic/comments/1wkdrxe/).
  • Footage of India’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson and others steadily eating nuts during a BRICS summit speech also spread on both Reddit (r/SipsTea、https://www.reddit.com/r/SipsTea/comments/1wlhah8/) and YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/vBMDQ_qspXY) as a cute, heartwarming story.
  • Video of an incident in Jamui, Bihar, India, in which female high-school students were harassed, was also covered simultaneously on Reddit (including r/IndianFocus) and YouTube (India Today、https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_JGv7Sr8tE)—a much more serious social issue.
  • A shared pattern on X, YouTube, and Bluesky was multiple media outlets and accounts racing to turn politicians’ statements into clips. For example, three YouTube channels independently made videos about allegations involving Lauren Boebert, while on Bluesky two media outlets separately clipped Spanish MP Gabriel Rufián’s speech, with both posts taking off.
  • Concern about AI-generated/deepfake video appeared on both Reddit—through shared prompts for creating videos that look like real covert footage, plus examples of people nearly being fooled—and YouTube, where fact-checkers flagged a BRICS-related deepfake.

Platform by platform

Reddit: This was a broad but shallow scan of one thread each across 12 subreddits. There were almost no cases of the classic “a funny video is blowing up” pattern. Instead, discussion centered on: 1) serious news videos such as harassment footage, 2) reality-TV and podcast confrontation clips, 3) meta-discussion about virality itself, and 4) techniques for using AI to create videos that look real. Japanese search terms (バズってる動画/話題の動画) returned no relevant hits.

X: This was honestly the biggest weakness in the collection. The pass only followed X’s official Explore trending terms ($SDOG, Bitcoin, Zelensky, Lauren, Ukraine, and so on), and none of the 40 collected posts were flagged as video. So, in terms of actual viral video, I can report zero confirmed examples; all that emerged was that Ukraine–Russia war commentary and Bitcoin price predictions dominated the higher-ranking posts.

YouTube: This was the platform with the most clearly video-centric results. I found exactly 10 videos: Aaron Pierre’s accent slip (the original clip plus a reaction), allegations involving Lauren Boebert (three channels), live footage from The Weeknd’s Tokyo show (notable for Yoko Taro’s direction and a "A Cruel Angel’s Thesis" sample), the Wawario/Wawaluigi meme song, the BRICS nuts video, flood evacuation in Illinois, and the Bihar incident. However, upload dates ranged from September 13 to 22, broader than the brief’s 24–48 hour window.

Bluesky: Because the official search API returned 403, collection was done through the Discover feed. Politics dominated the top posts, including clips of a Spanish lawmaker’s speech and footage concerning White House press restrictions. But the two highest-like posts were both rare archival discoveries: a sketch reportedly shelved after airing on SNL in 1998, and surprising talent footage from The Ed Sullivan Show in 1957. Engagement was an order of magnitude lower than on X or YouTube, and familiar viral staples such as cat clips and fail videos did not appear near the top this time. There was also no Japanese-language content.

Lemmy: I focused on the video-focused community !«メールアドレス», but found only six posts that actually included videos, short of the target of ten. Adding three articles about videos brought the count to nine. The most telling example was a Jake Paul and Logan Paul Pentagon-visit video that sparked intense backlash after being called “AI slop” (2 upvotes, 48 downvotes). On Lemmy, “going viral” is better measured by the spread of negative reaction than by view counts. A more upbeat story involved a truck driver’s NYC model, built over 20 years, which passed 10 million TikTok views in a week after his daughter posted it and ended up in a museum exhibition.

What to watch

Recommendations

  • For the next X collection pass, replace Explore trending terms with video-specific searches such as “went viral video” and “viral clip.”
  • On Lemmy, retry video-focused communities beyond !«メールアドレス», including !publicfreakoutery, which returned a 500 error this time.
  • Bluesky’s video-specific feed, “thevids,” returned 502, so it is worth trying again later.
  • Since Reddit has few direct video links, add a verification step that traces embedded sources back to Instagram Reels, TikTok, and similar platforms to capture metrics for the videos themselves.
  • AI-generated/deepfake video emerged independently as a theme on Reddit and YouTube, making it worth tracking across platforms in future rounds.

Data quality

X’s collection was entirely misaligned with the brief: all 40 posts lacked a video flag, so it produced zero videos. On Lemmy, only six posts contained video itself, leaving the target unmet; adding three articles brought the total to nine. Reddit and Bluesky’s official search APIs/interfaces were inaccessible, forcing the use of alternative routes such as Discover feeds; this may have missed videos that keyword search would have found. Only YouTube reached ten videos, although its upload-date range was broader than the brief’s requested 24–48 hour window.

What people say
  • A politician snacking becomes a meme. Thread 1 (r/SipsTea, 2,711 pts, 2026-09-20, https://www.reddit.com/r/SipsTea/comments/1wlhah8/) — India's Foreign Ministry spokesperson was filmed demolishing a box of nuts during Iran's president's speech at the BRICS summit. Top comment: "god forbid a man enjoy his salty treat" (685 pts). The clip is being embraced as wholesome/relatable rather than mocked.
  • The same harassment video is spreading across multiple India subs at once. Thread 2 (r/IndiaPulse_, 72 pts, 11 comments, 2026-09-21, https://www.reddit.com/r/IndiaPulse_/comments/1wm7z5l/) and Thread 6 (r/IndianFocus, 562 pts, 139 comments, 2026-09-21, https://www.reddit.com/r/IndianFocus/comments/1wm6jgm/) both cover a viral video of men harassing Class 10 students in Bihar's Jamui. r/IndiaPulse_ comments focus on the lack of police intervention ("No justice? no one around to intervene?" — u/Potential-Fix-3054, 8 pts); r/IndianFocus comments drift into political point-scoring ("This is the women safety Bj party and kangana runout talks about" — u/Similar-Street-8247, 334 pts).
  • An actor leaning into his own viral moment. Thread 3 (r/DC_Cinematic, 1,601 pts, 66 comments, 2026-09-19, https://www.reddit.com/r/DC_Cinematic/comments/1wkdrxe/) — Aaron Pierre reacting to a viral clip of himself from "Lanterns." u/Fuzzy_Ant_6447 (229 pts): "I love that the fandom has kind of rallied around enjoying his slips rather than insulting him."
  • A monetization claim that's actually ad spam. Thread 7 (r/influencermarketing, 0 pts, 1 comment, 2026-09-17, https://www.reddit.com/r/influencermarketing/comments/1wj0jg2/) claims a "red bikini girl" foam-festival clip (150M views) drove $1M in OnlyFans revenue in one week — but the post itself promotes a site called OnlySearch.co, and the one comment calls it out: "Worst reddit spam ever" (u/Windows-To, 4 pts).
  • Someone sharing a recipe for fake "caught on camera" virality. Thread 11 (r/seedance2pro, 5 pts, 0 comments, 2026-09-20, https://www.reddit.com/r/seedance2pro/comments/1wlctjb/) is a full AI-video prompt for generating realistic "someone filmed this at the park" style clips designed to pass as authentic phone footage.
  • Reality-show/podcast drama clips driving fandom debate. Thread 9 (r/ViralPodcast, 47 pts, 70 comments, 2026-09-20, https://www.reddit.com/r/ViralPodcast/comments/1wl5n44/, "She know we be talkin") and Thread 10 (r/biggboss, 192 pts, 44 comments, 2026-09-21, https://www.reddit.com/r/biggboss/comments/1wlzks7/) both center on a clip of a confrontation; commenters split on authenticity. On r/biggboss: "this mute button thing is proper ragebait xd" (u/Dazzling-Fox3914, 22 pts).
  • A creepy AI-looking video resurfacing from an old device. Thread 4 (r/rusAskReddit, 33 pts, 33 comments, 2026-09-16, https://www.reddit.com/r/rusAskReddit/comments/1wi99i5/) — OP found an unsettling video on an old device and can't source it; u/Ober_Darsteller (12 pts) says "Это определённо нейронка" ("this is definitely AI-generated, because the head on the chair appears out of thin air").
  • A recurring eerie soundtrack tied to "creepy videos." Thread 12 (r/NameThatSong, 17 pts, 21 comments, 2026-09-20, https://www.reddit.com/r/NameThatSong/comments/1wlreas/) — someone trying to ID an 8-bit-ish, lyric-less tune their son says "plays on creepy videos sometimes."
  • Meta-anxiety about being filmed, not a specific video. Thread 8 (r/NoStupidQuestions, 36 pts, 29 comments, 2026-09-21, https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/comments/1wm3jnj/) is someone asking why they look uglier on video than in the mirror; top reply calls it "a universal experience" (u/xomoth, 79 pts). Thread 5 (r/TeenIndia, 0 pts, 52 comments, 2026-09-15, https://www.reddit.com/r/TeenIndia/comments/1wgndiq/) debates why girls post images that "could go viral."
Signals
  • Rising: AI-generated clips built to look like authentic bystander footage — both as a production technique being actively shared (Thread 11's Seedance prompt) and as content people are already encountering and mistaking for real (Thread 4's "definitely AI" creepy video). Reddit is treating fabricated authenticity as an emerging, discussable craft, not a fringe curiosity.
  • Rising: a recognizable "creepy video" audio aesthetic (Thread 12) — enough of a pattern that people expect it to be identifiable and hunt for its source.
  • Dismissed: the "red bikini girl made $1M" claim (Thread 7) — the one comment it received flagged it as spam, and the post itself is a thinly-veiled ad, so the earnings figure shouldn't be treated as verified.
  • Disagreement: the same real-world harassment video (Threads 2 and 6) reads very differently depending on the subreddit — one community's comments focus on victim safety and policing, the other's pivot quickly to national politics.
  • Surprising: almost nothing in this sample is a straightforward "fun video is blowing up" story. What Reddit is actually discussing under "viral video" right now splits into: disturbing news footage, reality-TV/podcast drama reposted from elsewhere, meta-discourse about virality itself, and tooling/discussion around faking virality with AI.
Limits
  • The collector returned only one thread per subreddit (12 threads total across 5 search terms), so this cannot show which threads are actually accumulating multiple hits or growing within a single community — it's a broad, one-deep scan.
  • The two Japanese search terms ("バズってる動画", "話題の動画") did not surface any Japanese-language Reddit discussion; they matched unrelated English-language threads (r/rusAskReddit, r/NoStupidQuestions, r/NameThatSong). Reddit doesn't appear to have a visible Japanese-language "viral video" community in this sample, or the terms didn't match well.
  • None of the 12 threads link directly to a still-live source video on YouTube/TikTok/Instagram that could be checked independently in this stage — most are Reddit-native text/discussion posts or reference an embedded/cross-posted clip (e.g., Thread 3 sources an Instagram Reel). Per the playbook, this stage only reads what the worker already collected.
  • Thread dates span 2026-09-15 to 2026-09-21, wider than the 24–48 hour window the research brief asks about; per-thread dates are noted above so they can be filtered.
  • Thread 11 (r/seedance2pro) had 0 comments, so there's no community reaction to weigh, only the original post.

X

X — Daily Viral Video

This platform's collection does not answer the brief. The brief asks for
today's viral videos (videos gaining views and shares) on X. The worker's
session instead followed X's own Explore trending list — geolocated to
Croatia — and searched those ten trend names ($SDOG, Bitcoin, Zelensky,
Lauren, Muhammad, Russians, Zagreb, Ukraine, Weeknd, USSR), none of which are
video-related search terms. Of the 40 posts collected, every post with media
is flagged only hasPhoto — the collector recorded no video flag on any of
them, so I cannot point to a single confirmed viral video on X today. What
follows is what X's Explore/trend conversation looked like in this session,
not a list of viral videos. See ## Limits for the full gap.

Accounts
  • @AlaskanTzar — one post, but it is the single biggest thing in the
    whole collection (34,240 likes, ~1,500,000 views). A war-commentary/meme
account riffing on the Russia–Ukraine trend.
  • @TheWhiteNewsNet — one post ("Did you know?", 5,760 likes, ~435,000
views) under the USSR trend; a politics/history content account, one big
hit rather than a steady poster here.
  • @TedPillows and @USronaldcarter — each one post under Bitcoin
    (2,826 likes/~485,000 views and 584 likes/~117,000 views respectively);
both are crypto-chart/price-call accounts, the kind that post once and
ride a trend rather than converse.
  • @sentdefender (OSINTdefender) — one post, 2,076 likes/~235,000 views,
relaying an FT report on the Trump–Zelensky call; an established
OSINT/news-aggregation account, not a meme account.
  • @Katauroraaa — one joke post about "Russians about to invade the
Baltics" got 2,840 likes/~309,000 views, more than most of the "serious"
war accounts above — a single quip outperforming news posts.
  • @SDOGWITHSNAP and @AlphaGainer — the only accounts with more than
    one
post in this set (2 each), and both are the opposite of viral: a
    crypto-shill account promoting the $SDOG token (18 and 13 likes) and a
Zagreb-local account with 0 likes on both posts. Repetition here signals
    low-effort/bot-like posting, not momentum.
  • Everyone else in the 38-account list contributed exactly one post, mostly
in the tens-to-low-hundreds of likes — the long tail of a trending topic,
    not virality in themselves.

one post in the set that actually describes a live spectacle, though
still text/photo, not a linked video.

Signals
  • Rising: Russia–Ukraine war commentary dominates the highest-engagement
posts by a wide margin (7 of the top 11 above), mixing hard news
    (@sentdefender, @zerohedge), battlefield-tracking accounts
    (@bayraktar_1love), and dark humor (@SomaliSasuke, @gmanredux) — the same
trend is being fed by very different content types at once. Bitcoin/crypto
is the second cluster (Bitcoin trend + $SDOG token spam).
  • Dismissed / low-traction: the Croatia-local trends ($SDOG, Zagreb,
Lauren) mostly produced near-zero-engagement posts (0–39 views on several
@AlphaGainer and @SDOGWITHSNAP posts) — Explore surfaced them as "trending
in Croatia" but the actual posts under those names aren't going anywhere.
  • Surprised: a joke (@Katauroraaa, #4 above) out-performed every hard-news
war post except the single outlier @AlaskanTzar post — on this trend,
humor beat reporting. Also surprising: across 40 collected posts and 10
trend terms, not one was a video post — this session's Explore/search
pass surfaced charts, screenshots, memes and text, but no clip.
Limits
  • Wrong target for this brief. The brief asks for viral videos; this
collection searched X's own Explore trending-topic names ($SDOG, Bitcoin,
Zelensky, Lauren, Muhammad, Russians, Zagreb, Ukraine, Weeknd, USSR), not
    video-specific terms like バズってる動画/went viral/viral clip. I did not
re-search X myself — per the playbook, this stage only reads what the
    worker already collected.
  • No confirmed video content. All 40 collected posts carry only a
hasPhoto flag where media exists; none are flagged as video. I found
0 viral videos to report for X against the brief's "10 videos per
platform" completion criterion — the gap is total, not partial.
  • Geolocation. X's Explore list came back geolocated to Croatia
("Trending in Croatia" on 3 of the 10 trend rows). This is one country's
trend list, not a global one, and it is not video-specific to begin with.
  • No trend volume. The "Posts on X" count for every trend row came back
as — (not captured by the collector), so I can't say how large any of
these ten trends actually are on X.
  • No engagement context. I have exact likes/reposts/replies and rounded
(~) view counts for each post, but no baseline (e.g. the account's usual
engagement) to say how unusual today's numbers are for each poster.

The song samples Neon Genesis Evangelion theme “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis” by Yoko Takahashi, and the visuals were directed by Yoko Taro of the NieR series. X also saw attention around a giant robot stage production designed by Hajime Sorayama (from the separate X-stage research).

  7. Wawario and wawaluigi official song — Milchtanker — 2026-09-16 — 9,199 views · 477 likes — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaLws94OMqc
A song meme about the unofficial Mario-series characters “Wawario” and “Wawaluigi.” The original song and character-introduction video was posted by A.J.N. in July 2026 and surpassed 100,000 views within two months, according to Know Your Meme. It resurfaced in September via TikTok and X, and this reupload is also gaining traction.

  8. NSA Ajit Doval faced social media trolling after short video clips — Hitesh Mishra (@Hiteshmishra) — 2026-09-16 — 3,319 views · 169 likes — https://www.youtube.com/shorts/vBMDQ_qspXY
An explainer Short about how India’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal and NSA Ajit Doval became a global joke for steadily eating nuts and dried fruit during other leaders’ speeches at the BRICS summit in New Delhi. A separate video claiming that Jaiswal was confronted by reporters about the incident has been identified as an AI fake/deepfake by multiple fact-checking organizations.

  9. Over 200 evacuated from Amboy campground after flash flooding — Eyewitness News WTVO WQRF (MyStateline) — 2026-09-20 — 2,156 views · 6 likes — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tMrY5lfRBs
Footage from Amboy, Illinois, where more than 200 people were evacuated from O'Connell's RV campground after over five inches of rain fell in 48 hours. Views are modest, but it was posted within a day of the event.

  10. Shocking News: Bihar Class 10 Students Harassed On Jamui's Road, 3 Arrested After Video Goes Viral — India Today — premiere today (about 11 hours before research on 2026-09-22) — 26,454 views · 139 likes — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_JGv7Sr8tE
News footage about an incident in Jamui, Bihar, India, where a video of masked men harassing male and female high-school students by the roadside spread on social media and led to three arrests. It is the same source video discussed in the Reddit research, including in r/IndiaPulse_ and r/IndianFocus.

Signals
  • Political scandals prompt multiple channels to jump in simultaneously: Within two to three days of the complaint, at least three channels independently made videos on the Lauren Boebert allegations (3–5). Rather than one standout video, the entire news cycle is going viral.
  • The original clip and the subject’s reaction can form a viral pair: Aaron Pierre’s case (1–2) shows a two-stage chain: a clipped original moment followed by his own response.
  • Simultaneous traction across platforms: The Wawario/Wawaluigi song (7), the BRICS nuts video (8), and the Bihar incident (10) were all being discussed at the same time on other platforms in this research, including Reddit and X. Even when YouTube views are not especially high, it is functioning as a source of spread or an explanatory venue.
  • Concern about AI-generated and manipulated video: As noted in item 8, a video claiming a reporter confrontation related to the BRICS summit was identified as a deepfake, and YouTube news-commentary channels are also having to correct the misinformation. This aligns with Reddit’s trend of realistic AI-generated covert-footage-style videos.
  • View counts vary dramatically: The ten videos found range from 2,156 to 1.78 million views, so there is no single standard for “viral.” The local-news primary footage in item 9 has low view counts but stands out for being posted within 24 hours of the event.
Limits
  • YouTube search pages (youtube.com/results) and the trending page (youtube.com/feed/trending) redirected standard WebFetch to a consent screen (consent.youtube.com), while proxy access through r.jina.ai was frequently blocked by CAPTCHA and 401 errors. Individual watch/Shorts pages could generally be retrieved through the proxy, but candidate URLs first had to be found through web search.
  • As a result, there was no mechanical way to identify videos that were purely trending on YouTube. These ten videos were collected through individual verification based on topics discussed on Reddit/X, web searches for news-related terms, and Japanese trending roundup site buzzweet.com. This is not a comprehensive trending ranking.
  • Upload dates range from 2026-09-13 to 09-22, and several items (1, 2, 6, 7, and 8) exceed the requested 24–48 hour research window. These were included because the source videos themselves were catalysts for events discussed today; each item lists its upload date for clarity.
  • The Japanese trending roundup site buzzweet.com mainly showed highly ranked official artist channels such as BE:FIRST and Snow Man. Since no content there had a striking element that could explain why it was going viral, none was included in the Videos section.
  • Like and view counts are only those that could be retrieved. Total channel subscriber counts were not displayed on many video pages, so only figures that could be confirmed, such as BurbNBougie News’s approximately 6,580 subscribers, are included.
  • Comments on the videos often could not be displayed through proxy retrieval, so judgments here rely on descriptions and verification through news reports.

Bluesky — Today’s Viral Videos

Research notes

Bluesky’s official search endpoint (app.bsky.feed.searchPosts) and web search interface (bsky.app/search) were both inaccessible this time (see ## Limits for details). Instead, I collected results by checking individual posts from the official Discover (“What’s Hot”) feed (app.bsky.feed.getFeed, feed ID: whats-hot) using app.bsky.feed.getPostThread. The ten video-embedded posts below were posted within the past 24 hours (2026-09-21 09:49–21:24 UTC), ranked by likes.

A sketch called “MEDIA-OPOLY,” described as having aired only once during a live SNL broadcast in 1998 before being shelved. The media-consolidation satire is spreading with the provocative caption, “Why do you think it was never aired again?”

The caption is simply “Do you remember?” It is a short nostalgic video that relies on the footage itself rather than explanatory text to attract viewers.

A video-only post with no text. Reply reactions suggest that many viewers were surprised by Guns N’ Roses vocalist Axl Rose expressing a political position.

Footage of Rufián, the same MP in item 6, naming Valencia regional president Mazón and condemning him as incompetent, a reckless killer, and a psychopath over the response to flood damage. Different media outlets are separately going viral with clips of the same politician.

  10. @jose-maia.bsky.social — 241 likes · 94 reposts · 5 replies — 2026-09-21 18:51 UTC — https://bsky.app/profile/jose-maia.bsky.social/post/3mw2ezfnons2n
A Lula-support video captioned “Bora Lula! #LulaReeleitoEm2026,” part of the movement backing Lula in Brazil’s 2026 presidential election.

Signals
  • Political statement clips dominate the top rankings. Five of the ten videos (1, 2, 4, 6, and 9) are news footage or political-speech clips. Two of them (6 and 9) are separate clips of the same speech by Gabriel Rufián, posted independently by different Spanish media outlets, and both are going viral.
  • “Shelved” and rare archival footage performs strongly. Accounts like @michaelwarburton.bsky.social, which uncover old television footage, hold the two top like counts. The appeal is less about new footage itself than the surprise of “how did I never know this existed?”
  • Engagement is an order of magnitude smaller than X and YouTube. The largest result here has 7,426 likes, compared with X’s top post at about 34,000 likes and 1.5 million views. Bluesky has a smaller audience and lower distribution power, with strong engagement within niche political clusters rather than many truly massive viral videos.
  • Pure entertainment and meme videos are scarce near the top. The only celebratory meme is item 7, the Earth, Wind & Fire Day video. Familiar viral formats such as cat clips and fail videos did not appear in the upper reaches of the Discover feed this time.
Limits
  • The official search API (app.bsky.feed.searchPosts) consistently returned 403 Forbidden and could not be used. No keyword searches for “バズってる動画,” “話題の動画,” “viral video,” and similar terms could be run. I therefore switched to extracting video-embedded posts from the top 50 entries in the official Discover feed (whats-hot). This means the list represents videos that appeared in Discover and may have missed videos discoverable through keyword search, including Japanese-language viral videos.
  • The video-specific “Video” feed (feed ID: thevids) consistently returned 502 Bad Gateway. It should have been the most useful source, but was unavailable this time.
  • The bsky.app/search web interface renders posts with JavaScript, so static retrieval could not access its content. Hashtag pages such as #動画コンテンツ had the same issue.
  • No Japanese viral videos appeared in this sample. The Discover feed was dominated by English-, Spanish-, and Portuguese-language posts, and no Japanese accounts’ videos appeared near the top. This data cannot determine whether viral video is active in Japanese Bluesky communities.
  • All ten posts were made from 2026-09-21 09:49 to 21:24 UTC (September 21, 18:49 to September 22, 06:24 JST), which falls within the brief’s 24–48 hour window.

Lemmy — Today’s Viral Videos (as of 2026-09-22)

Communities
  • !«メールアドレス» — 18.7K subscribers (10.9K local), with about 514 daily active users. A video-focused community describing itself as a place to share interesting videos from around the web. This was the main research area.
  • !«メールアドレス» — 28K subscribers (13.9K local). Focused on mildly interesting content, but also receives articles about TikTok-origin viral videos such as the NYC model story.
  • !«メールアドレス» — 22.5K subscribers (9.78K local). For true but unbelievable news stories, and a secondary dissemination point for viral image and video stories.
  • !«メールアドレス» — A general-news community. It more often carries articles about the debate or backlash created by viral videos than the viral video itself.

The Lemmy post itself is not the video, but a reposted article about backlash surrounding a family-vlog video.

Signals
  • On Lemmy, a video “going viral” is more visible through downvotes than view counts. The Jake Paul and Logan Paul video (2 upvotes, 48 downvotes) drew comments such as “AI slopshit,” “video hit and run,” and “downvote is like a glowing beacon.” The community shows a strong rejection of influencer-style, corporate-PR-like, or possibly AI-generated videos.
  • The same user (Ajuy / Amine_Jouahri) posted multiple consecutive videos to !«メールアドレス», revealing a curator-like pattern: bringing viral videos from other platforms and reuploading them as MP4 files through imgchest.com. The original source, such as TikTok or X, is often not identified.
  • There are few videos that are truly taking off in real time. What gains traction on Lemmy is more often articles introducing videos or viral phenomena that already broke elsewhere—the NYC model, the Minnesota shoplifter, and backlash over the headbutt video, for example. Original viral video emerging from Lemmy is almost nonexistent.
  • Absolute scores are low, usually in the single digits to twenties, so “viral” must be assessed comparatively within Lemmy.
Limits
  • The brief’s completion target is “10 viral videos on each social network,” but on Lemmy only six posts containing actual video (MP4/embed) could be found (#2–7). Since the target could not be reached, three articles about viral videos or viral phenomena (#1, #8, #9) were added for a total of nine.
  • Searches focused on lemmy.world web and API search (/api/v3/search, queries: viral video / went viral / viral clip), plus the newest and hot tabs of !«メールアドレス». Similar web searches were run on lemmy.ml and lemm.ee, but no unique new results within the 24–48 hour window were found; results were primarily mirrors or cross-posts of existing lemmy.world posts.
  • Japanese keywords (バズってる動画/話題の動画) returned no relevant Lemmy posts. Lemmy is English-language-centric, so it does not overlap much with Japanese viral-video activity.
  • !«メールアドレス» returned a server error (HTTP 500) and could not be checked.
  • Lemmy is small to begin with—its video-focused community has around 500 daily active users—so there are few posts meeting the definition of videos rapidly gaining views within 24–48 hours. Scores generally stop at a few dozen and operate at a very different scale from other social networks.

Recommended actions

  • For X, redo collection using video-specific terms such as went viral video / viral clip rather than Explore trending terms.
  • On Lemmy, retry video-focused communities beyond !«メールアドレス», including !publicfreakoutery, which returned a 500 error.
  • Since Bluesky’s video-only feed “thevids” returned 502, try retrieving it again after some time has passed.
  • Because Reddit has few direct video links, add a verification step that traces content to original embeds such as Instagram Reels and TikTok.
  • Concern about AI-generated/deepfake video independently emerged on Reddit and YouTube, so it is worth tracking across platforms in future rounds.

Data quality notes

X collected only posts without video flags, resulting in zero videos. Lemmy produced six actual video posts against the target of ten; with three articles added, it was counted as nine. Reddit and Bluesky could not use official search, relying instead on alternative paths such as Discover feeds, so they may have missed videos that keyword search would have found.
