Daily Viral Video — 2026-09-26
No single breakout video dominated in the last 24-48h; instead, reheated/legacy clips, callout-outrage footage, and animal content each drove engagement across different platforms, while no Japanese-origin viral video surfaced on any of the five platforms.
Daily Viral Video Roundup — 2026-09-26
I checked Reddit, X, YouTube, Bluesky, and Lemmy. The bottom line: there was no single runaway hit that was selling like crazy worldwide. Instead, different genres were gaining traction on each social network. If anything, three patterns were working across multiple platforms at once: “old material catching fire again or being recirculated,” animal/feel-good content, and footage that publicly calls someone out in the moment (outrage and righteous-anger content). One fairly significant finding this time: even searches in Japanese for “viral videos” and “trending videos” turned up almost nothing across all five platforms. Within the scope of this research, I could not find a Japan-originated video that could be called “today’s viral video.”
Across platforms
- There were no Japanese-language viral videos anywhere: Across Reddit, X, YouTube, Bluesky, and Lemmy, Japanese search terms (バズってる動画/話題の動画) produced virtually zero results. Major YouTubers such as Hikakin and Comdot also showed no signs of recently breaking out. Today, the main battleground on social media was less “a video from Japan went viral” and more “how people talk about videos originating overseas.”
- Revivals outperformed new releases: ElectroBOOM’s high-voltage video was being discussed both on Reddit (r/ElectroBOOM) and on YouTube itself, but in both cases its momentum came less from being new and more from comparisons with past legendary stunts and reuploads. Robert Pattinson mentioning old YouTube videos (such as Potter Puppet Pals) and prompting nostalgia followed the same pattern. It was a day when “reigniting something with its context intact” performed better than “new.”
- The same Harry Styles moment crossed two platforms: The video of him flashing a peace sign at Zoë Kravitz was covered independently on both Reddit and YouTube. In both cases, fan-shot clips—not official footage—were the primary venue for discussion.
- The “call someone out or expose them” format was strong: From chains of assault and harassment videos from India (Reddit), to a tradesperson angrily confronting a city council and Meta employees criticizing Meta (Lemmy), posts following the pattern of “captured on the spot → spreads → becomes a debate” performed strongly across platforms.
- Animals and feel-good content remain a reliable safe bet: Animal videos accounted for three of Bluesky’s top 10, while a cat community earned the single highest score on Lemmy. Even on a day without a flashy incident, animal content reliably generates a baseline of views and likes.
- View and like counts were largely unavailable in the first place: Except for some X posts, almost all platforms made it impossible to obtain video view counts (see Data quality for details). A structural problem across all five networks meant the metrics requested by the brief were not available.
- Attitudes toward AI content were polarized: In Reddit’s Indian teen subreddit, an AI-generated Ganesh video drew a cool response: “stop with AI already.” The YouTube research also found that a supposed Taylor Swift “bikini video” was actually an AI-generated still image. By contrast, seven Japanese individual creators posted video-production demos using Opus 5.5/Claude Code on X on the same day, and these were received positively. The contrast was clear: realistic-looking content that turns out to be AI is disliked, while AI tool demos themselves are welcomed.
Platform by platform
Reddit — The biggest performer was a baseball-broadcast clip in the “husband doing nothing” genre (r/Fauxmoi · 22,410pt). Separately, videos of assaults and harassment originating in India went viral in a chain from Bihar to Odisha, becoming a larger story involving debates about political responsibility. Japanese search terms surfaced nothing, and since Reddit itself does not provide video view or like counts, only post scores and comment counts could be recorded.
X — Because the search terms used came from X Explore’s general trend list, more than half of the 40 results were spam or sweepstakes advertising, leaving roughly 10 genuinely video-related posts. Among them, an introduction to a Taylor Swift bikini dance video (@SoyTendencias, around 1.7 million views) had the highest overall view count. It was also notable that Japanese individual creators posted Opus 5.5 and Claude Code video-production work side by side on the same day.
YouTube — Searches and video pages on youtube.com were blocked by an EU/Croatia-region consent screen, so zero videos had their view counts verified using YouTube’s own numbers. Only five videos could be confirmed through oEmbed and news articles (short of the brief’s target of 10). The clearest numerical signal was children’s song channel NurSure surging to 341.5 million weekly views (+102%).
Bluesky — There were no specialist “viral roundup” accounts; instead, the official popular-post feed, “What's Hot,” showed animal videos and impression videos gaining traction. The API does not include views, so analysis was based only on likes and reposts. Since the post-search API returned 403 errors, research relied on What's Hot rather than keyword searches.
Lemmy — !«メールアドレス» and !«メールアドレス» were the main sources. Clips of people fighting back or escaping, plus soothing animal and aggressive-cat videos, were the leading formats. Scores topped out at roughly 120 points rather than Reddit-style tens of thousands. Poster names and API-based view counts could not be obtained.
What to watch
- Reddit: The chain of assault and harassment videos from India — it is developing into a political-responsibility debate; watch for follow-up reporting (r/IndiaTodayLIVE)
- Reddit/YouTube: The baseball-broadcast clip that will “probably get even bigger” — YouTube research noted that it is also spreading to X and Instagram (r/Fauxmoi)
- X: Taylor Swift taking the top two view-count spots — new music, Eras Tour staging, and AI-generated fake bikini images are all developing simultaneously (@TYRISPRINT)
- X: A cluster of Opus 5.5/Claude Code video-production demos among Japanese individual creators — watch whether the tools themselves remain a topic of conversation (@shinshin86)
- YouTube: NurSure’s unusual surge to 341.5 million weekly views (+102%) — needs follow-up to see whether it continues
- Bluesky: A weather-explainer video has an unusually high repost ratio (632 reposts against 1,165 likes) — worth watching whether the “explain for sharing” format is repeatable (@padresj.bsky.social)
Recommendations
- If covering “today’s viral videos in Japan,” it is safest to frame the piece around overseas material or revivals of older content, since no domestic example emerged from any platform this time.
- Since view counts were unavailable on nearly every platform, keep the metrics separate when comparing them: Reddit/Lemmy score plus comments, Bluesky likes plus repost ratio, and X’s absolute figures. Do not line them up as if they were directly comparable.
- The chain of assault and harassment videos from India is becoming politicized, so if covering it as a news story, check Reddit first for follow-up developments.
- When featuring AI-related content, account for the split between backlash against realistic-looking content revealed to be AI-generated and positive reactions to AI tool demos; prioritize the latter angle (tool demonstrations).
- Animal/feel-good material and on-the-spot callout formats work as insurance on days without a major new story, so keep them in reserve as possible topics.
- YouTube’s EU consent screen prevented collecting numbers this time, so consider alternate region settings or data sources beyond oEmbed in future runs.
Data quality
- Reddit: Collected 12 threads, but only 8–9 genuinely unique videos (short of the brief’s 10); view and like counts are structurally unavailable, and Japanese search terms returned 0 results.
- X: More than half of 40 results consisted of spam, sweepstakes ads, or trend hijacking. Video-related posts numbered only around 10, and there were 0 general viral videos from Japanese-language users (other than AI tool demos).
- YouTube: Search and video pages were blocked by the EU consent screen, so zero videos had YouTube-native view or like counts verified. Only five could be presented with high confidence. Japanese searches and the domestic trending site yutura.net also returned 403 blocks.
- Bluesky: The post-search API consistently returned 403, the video-specific feed was unavailable with 502, and the fallback research relied on What's Hot. The API does not support view counts, and no Japanese-language posts appeared in the top tier.
- Lemmy: There is no view-equivalent metric, only post score; poster names could not be obtained, and Japanese search terms produced 0 results.

What people say
- By far the biggest performer was a baseball-viewing clip. During a Twins vs. Giants broadcast, a wife was shown carrying a baby, backpack, and all the food while her husband sat staring into space, and even the commentators mocked him; the clip spread widely (#8 r/Fauxmoi · 22,410pt · 740 comments · 2026-09-25). The top comment (13,804pt) said, in effect, “You can’t know everything about a relationship from a 30-second clip, but with two adults there, this is ridiculous,” and the thread took off as a “useless husband” story.
- ElectroBOOM-style high-voltage stunt footage was also gaining traction (#4 r/ElectroBOOM · 1,203pt · 32 comments · 2026-09-22; its title was simply “Fucking crazy video”). Comments such as “this looks like a Baltic country” and “there was a ‘legendary’ one before this” made it interesting because people discussed it together with similar older videos rather than as a standalone clip.
- In the Chinese drama world, the discussion was less about the video itself than a Weibo controversy that reached Reddit. An iQIYI trailer full of intense kissing and bed scenes sparked debate over whether it was “baiting viewers with sex appeal instead of the script” (#1 r/cdramasfans · 301pt · 101 comments · 2026-09-23). Many comments compared it with the popular drama Early Spring.
- Robert Pattinson naming favorite YouTube videos such as Potter Puppet Pals and Charlie the Unicorn during promotion became a viral moment, sending Reddit users into a wave of nostalgia (#5 r/popculturechat · 557pt · 31 comments · 2026-09-23). The top comment, at 225pt, said Potter Puppet Pals instantly sent them back in time.
- A sweet video of Harry Styles waving at Zoë and Lenny in the audience went viral, but received a large volume of malicious comments, leaving fans confused (#6 r/harrystyles · 0pt · 4 comments · 2026-09-25). It spread in a way that felt like “people attack before seeking treatment.”
- In an Indian teen subreddit, an AI-generated Ganesh video drew a chilly response: “another AI video, stop already” (#9 r/TeenIndia · 0pt · 6 comments · 2026-09-24). One sarcastic comment said that using “AI” and “skill” in the same sentence is contradictory.
- A subreddit for small and mid-sized YouTubers saw an editing discussion gain traction: “ADHD-style rapid editing is already getting old; what raises retention is leaving no dead space in the first second and ditching generic B-roll.” Practical comments gathered around the topic (#10 r/SmallYoutubers · 93pt · 13 comments · 2026-09-23).
- In India, multiple videos recording street assaults and sexual harassment went viral in a chain over the past 24–48 hours: Jamui, Bihar (#2 · 117pt · 2026-09-23, #7 · 61pt · 2026-09-21, #11 · 133pt · 2026-09-21), Banka district (#3 r/IndiaTodayLIVE · 401pt · 2026-09-25), and Dhenkanal, Odisha (#12 r/unitedstatesofindia · 484pt · 2026-09-23). Angry comments repeatedly stressed that these incidents only became public because they were recorded (the top comment on [#11]: “Just a reminder that this only came to light cause it was recorded”).
Signals
- The strongest momentum was in outrage and righteous-anger content rather than entertainment. Assault and harassment videos from multiple Indian states became one large linked story, drawing in political accountability arguments (“law and order has collapsed under BJP,” etc.) ([#2][#3][#7][#11][#12]). The key characteristic was that they were discussed as a continuous Bihar-to-Odisha chain, not as isolated incidents.
- In lighter entertainment, the biggest hit was the baseball “husband doing nothing” clip ([#8] · 22,410pt). As a format, it is an old-school viral staple: commentators exposing and roasting someone behaving badly, more universal than era-specific.
- Content receiving abandonment or a chilly reception: AI-generated video ([#9]). The clear “stop with AI already” rejection was the only unmistakable negative-headwind signal in this dataset.
- One surprising finding was that two videos gained virality not from novelty but from being compared with past classics or legends: ElectroBOOM’s “legendary” material ([#4]) and Robert Pattinson’s nostalgic YouTube picks ([#5]). On Reddit, revivals with context are stronger than new releases.
- The Harry Styles case ([#6]) is an unusual pattern in which the video itself is heartwarming but reactions after it spread are full of hostility—a disconnect between the content and the emotional temperature of the response.
- The c-drama thread ([#1]) was clearly divided: people supporting sexy depictions clashed with people wary of Westernization and overreliance on physicality, as in Early Spring. Viral does not simply mean everyone is positive.
Limits
- Reddit does not provide view or like counts for the videos themselves. Only Reddit post score and comment count were available, meaning the “view count and like count” requested by the brief were unknown for most threads ([#1][#2][#3][#4][#6][#7][#9][#10][#11][#12] contain no view counts).
- Japanese search terms “バズってる動画” and “話題の動画” did not surface a single Japanese thread or topic related to J-pop, anime, or games. Instead, they returned English-language threads such as ElectroBOOM ([#4]), Robert Pattinson ([#5]), TeenIndia ([#9]), and SmallYoutubers ([#10]). Reddit yielded nothing about videos currently going viral in Japan.
- The post bodies for #2 and #7 could not be retrieved, so their descriptions are inferred from comments only.
- #2, #3, #7, #11, and #12 are separate threads but effectively form the same linked story about assault and harassment videos in India. The collected data did not include poster information or links to the underlying videos themselves, only mentions through news articles.
- Against the brief’s target of 10 videos, 12 threads were collected; after removing the overlap above, there were only about 8–9 genuinely unique viral videos. No more emerged through these five search terms, which appears to be the platform’s limit.
X
X — Today’s Viral Videos
I reviewed 40 posts, but first an important caveat: the keywords searched on X were not geared toward “viral videos.” They were the X Explore trend topics themselves: #sweepstakes, #giveaways, #chance, Taylor, Opus 5.5, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, Claude, and Cardano. As a result, more than half the material consisted of sweepstakes ads, lottery results, and crypto promotion unrelated to video. With that caveat, here are the posts that actually appeared to be gaining traction around video content (see Limits for details).
X’s “What’s happening” section (Explore)
The session appears to have been in Croatia. Five of the top 10 Explore topics (#giveaways, #chance, Slovenia, Croatia, and Cardano) were labeled “Trending in Croatia,” meaning they were trends seen from Croatia rather than global trends. Only Taylor Swift (Music) and Opus 5.5/Claude (Technology) lacked a regional label and appeared more globally oriented.
Accounts
- @TYRISPRINT (tyris ✰) — One sharp Taylor-related post earned 45,201 likes and about 780,000 views (#15). It was the highest-performing individual account in this collection.
- @SoyTendencias (Tendencias en X) — A Spanish-language “X trend breaking news” account. A single post introducing the Taylor bikini dance video earned 3,151 likes and roughly 1.7 million views (#16), the highest view count in the entire dataset.
- @LegionHoops — An NBA-focused account. Luka Dončić’s Slovenia training video earned 7,939 likes and about 360,000 views (#23).
- Japanese individual AI creators (@shinshin86, @sankakuten91256, @seiiiiiiiiiiru, @rotejin, @bond_ai1, @mmmiyama_D, @ponzponz15) — Separate accounts each posted one video or motion demo made with Opus 5.5 or Claude Code on the same day (#17–#20, #33–#35). Viewed as a cluster, it became a rush of new-model showcases. This was not one massive viral post, but small and mid-sized accounts all doing the same topic in parallel.
- @CSharp66427821/@sweepsheet and @Mashiane10111/@MamaKano_97/@Blessed10872/@Beasty157 — near-identical template posts differing only in the South Africa vs. Guinea match score. With 0–1 likes and single-digit to double-digit views, they were spam or hashtag-riding noise rather than video content.
Posts
- #16 @SoyTendencias — 3,151 likes · 129 reposts · 80 replies · approximately 1.7 million views · 2026-09-24. “"Taylor Swift" Por el video que compartió bailando en bikini.” It had the highest view count among all 40 posts and was one of the few that explicitly described itself as a video.
- #15 @TYRISPRINT — 45,201 likes · 1,170 reposts · 71 replies · approximately 780,000 views · 2026-09-25. “btch they tearing taylor swift a new asshole…even the swifties.” A sharp comment connected to reactions to a new song and Travis Kelce’s podcast, with the largest like count overall.
- #23 @LegionHoops — 7,939 likes · 367 reposts · 62 replies · approximately 360,000 views · 2026-09-25. “Luka Doncic training with the Lakers in Slovenia: "You better pass to me because I run this fu**ing country."” A quote from a Lakers preseason workout video, and the biggest sports performer in this collection.
- #14 @marleyharper — 5,922 likes · 431 reposts · approximately 62,000 views · 2026-09-24. “TAYLOR SWIFT IS SWIMMING UNDER THE STAGE AT THE ERAS TOUR!” An Eras Tour staging moment that is clearly the kind of thing people want to see in video.
- #20 @shinshin86 — 519 likes · 72 reposts · approximately 92,000 views · 2026-09-24. A demonstration of adding Live2D motion using Opus 5.5. It had the highest view count within the AI-video-generation cluster.
- #35 @mmmiyama_D — 611 likes · 39 reposts · approximately 73,000 views · 2026-09-25. “I also made a 15-second self-introduction video with Claude Code’s Opus 5.5. It downloaded the fonts on its own, and even the music came out nicely.”
- #34 @bond_ai1 — 409 likes · 34 reposts · approximately 55,000 views · 2026-09-25. “video-use,” an automation tool that finishes professional-quality video simply by giving Claude Code the source materials.
- #17 @sankakuten91256 — 1,023 likes · 89 reposts · approximately 48,000 views · 2026-09-25. A production walkthrough for a nine-panel dance video combining GPT Images, Grok, Opus 5.5, and Astra. A cross-tool workflow showcase.
- #18 @seiiiiiiiiiiru — 551 likes · 75 reposts · approximately 45,000 views · 2026-09-24. A demonstration of creating an AI advertising video with Opus 5.5 and Gemini TTS.
- #11 @parrotjoayo — 10 likes · 2 reposts · approximately 226 views · 2026-09-25. An illustration-making video linking to YouTube Shorts. A small post from an individual fan-art account, but one of the few in this dataset that explicitly linked to a YouTube video.
Signals
- Taylor Swift was the biggest performer: [#15] and [#16] took the top two view-count positions (about 780,000 and 1.7 million). The angles differed—bikini dance footage, Eras Tour staging, and a sharp reaction to new music and Travis—but attention was concentrated on the same person.
- AI video-generation tools (Opus 5.5/Claude Code) were a cluster, not one viral hit: Seven posts across [#17]–[#20] and [#33]–[#35] were posted on the same day by different Japanese individual creators. At roughly 40,000–90,000 views each, none was an extreme outlier alone, but multiple accounts simultaneously demonstrating the same new model signals that the tool itself was becoming a topic.
- Things that look like trends but are really spam:
#sweepstakes,#giveaways, and#chancewere treated as Explore trends, but consisted mostly of Fanatics sweepstakes ads, lottery results, and bot-like South African match-prediction posts with 0–1 likes. They were merely hashtag hitchhiking, not viral. - One surprise: half of Explore’s top 10 were labeled “Trending in Croatia.” They appeared to be global topics but were actually local to the session’s region.
- The Cardano/Italy categories contained no video element:
Italysearch results were mostly travel photos and ads, whileCardanoresults focused on crypto-project fundraising criticism and NFT migration announcements. Neither produced a single post that qualified as a viral video.
Limits
- The search terms used (
#sweepstakes,#giveaways,#chance,Taylor,Opus 5.5,Slovenia,Italy,Croatia,Claude,Cardano) were general trend words pulled from X Explore, not video-specific terms like Reddit’s “went viral” and “viral video.” As a result, among 40 posts, only around 10 actually referenced videos or video-like moments; the remaining roughly 30 (sweepstakes ads, lottery results, South African match-prediction templates, political opinions, and cryptocurrency discussion) were unrelated to video. In the strict sense, the brief’s target of 10 videos was not met. - Of the posts found through
#chance, [#9], [#10], and [#11] are likely fan-art hashtags for a character named “Chance,” rather than uses of the English word “chance,” as their text includes apparent OC-setting terms such as “mafioso” and “doublefedora.” This could not be determined conclusively. - Only one post, [#11], included a direct video link such as a YouTube URL in its text. For the rest, the nature of embedded videos or images could only be inferred from post text and the “has an image” label.
- These search terms surfaced no Japanese-language topics resembling general “viral videos”—comedy clips, TikTok reposts, controversy videos, and so on. There were zero Japanese-language posts other than AI tool demos.
YouTube
YouTube — Today’s Viral Videos
Channels
- ElectroBOOM (@ElectroBOOM, 8.74 million subscribers) — A high-voltage prank/experiment comedy channel. It continues posting high-voltage stunt videos in the same vein as the one mentioned in Reddit’s r/ElectroBOOM thread (2026-09-22, “Fucking crazy video,” 1,203pt). Recent uploads include “Cooked by a CHARGING CELLPHONE!” (a reupload of an electric-shock prank) and a taser-knife showdown at the creator event Open Sauce 2026.
- NBC Sports Bay Area / @NBCSAuthentic — The broadcaster for the San Francisco Giants. During the Giants vs. Twins game on Tuesday, 9/22, commentators Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper praised a “multitasking mom” carrying a baby, backpack, and three plates of food while her husband next to her remained on his phone. The clip itself exploded on X (from @nocontextsfg) and Instagram (ESPNW), but the same clip could not be identified on YouTube during this session (see Limits).
- NurSure (U.S. children’s song channel) — According to Tubefilter’s weekly ranking for 9/14–9/20, it rose sharply from 181st to 24th place, reaching 341.5 million weekly views (+102%). It was reported to have exceeded 80 million views in 24 hours during its best single-day performance. Its colorful hairstyles and catchy songs teach children’s hygiene topics such as handwashing, which appears to be driving the surge.
Videos
- Harry Styles SPOTS Zoë Kravitz in the CROWD (Shorts) — Posted by Handsome Styles (fan clip channel) — https://www.youtube.com/shorts/qH7MxCrBTJM — A clip from a Harry Styles show at MSG (around 2026-09-24, according to TMZ coverage), showing him sending a thumbs-up/peace sign from the stage to fiancée Zoë Kravitz and her father, Lenny Kravitz. The same moment was also discussed on Reddit (r/harrystyles, 2026-09-25).

The two teams also met again in the tournament final, but this video covers the preliminary round.
- 🔴 LIVE BEAR CAM: Fat Bear Week 2026 at Katmai National Park (live stream) — Displayed channel name: Hollywood ReelTime — https://www.youtube.com/live/xkul3IY6AjE — A bear-cam live stream tied to Alaska’s Katmai National Park “fattest bear” voting event (held 9/22–9/29, its 12th year). Note that it appeared under a possibly unofficial channel name rather than explore.org’s official stream (see Limits).
- Cooked by a CHARGING CELLPHONE! ElectroBOOM Crew EXPOSED!!! (REUPLOAD of LATITY-004) — Posted by ElectroBOOM — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJRCRkST1rE — A reupload of an electric-shock prank involving a charging cellphone. It is in the same vein as the high-voltage “crazy video” discussed on Reddit.
- Taser Knife Fighting at Open Sauce 2026 — Posted by ElectroBOOM — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se1NPlfUCss — A taser-versus-knife demonstration at the creator event Open Sauce 2026.
Signals
- Today’s YouTube-style virality was marked less by a single new upload than by secondary circulation of clips that first exploded on other platforms. The Giants vs. Twins “multitasking mom” commentary clip had reportedly exceeded 5.3 million views on X in under 24 hours, while ESPNW’s Instagram Reel had reached 40 million views by Friday (9/25). It was the fastest-growing single “video” found in this research, but its YouTube version could not be identified in this session. This is a pattern where television footage spreads first on X and Instagram rather than YouTube.
- Celebrity moments captured on phones in the moment were strong: the Harry Styles peace-sign clip (#1) was driven by a fan-shot excerpt, not a live broadcast or official video.
- High-voltage/electrical-prank content (ElectroBOOM) was being discussed through comparisons with past legendary stunt videos and reuploads rather than as a new release (#4), consistent with the Reddit analysis that revivals with context are strong.
- NurSure’s surge as a children’s channel was not the classic case of one viral video; it was channel-wide weekly views more than doubling through frequent short-form uploads, a YouTube-specific pattern of algorithm-driven rapid growth.
- No specific Japanese-language or Japan-originated “viral video of the day” could be identified despite repeated searches (see Limits). Videos from major YouTubers such as Hikakin and Comdot also showed no sign of exceptional growth in the preceding 24–48 hours.
Limits
- The largest constraint: In this session,
youtube.com/results(search results),youtube.com/watch(video pages), andyoutube.com/feed/trending(trending) were broadly inaccessible. They either redirected to an EU/Croatia-region consent screen or returned only page footers. This prevented directly reading views and upload dates from page HTML as the playbook anticipated, forcing reliance onyoutube.com/oembed(a lightweight API returning only title and uploader) plus web-search snippets and news coverage. As a result, none of the videos above had their view or like count verified as a YouTube-native figure. - Videos 1–5 were confirmed to exist as YouTube search results (with titles and channel names verified via the oEmbed API), but evidence that they were rapidly growing in the past 24–48 hours comes from dates in news articles and Reddit/X references, not YouTube-side metrics.
- For the Fat Bear Week live camera (#3), the displayed uploader was “Hollywood ReelTime.” It was not possible to determine whether this was a reupload of explore.org’s official stream or an artifact of the search query.
- The brief’s target of 10 videos was not reached; only five could be presented with high confidence. Several cases were clearly growing on other social platforms but could not be located as specific YouTube videos, including the “multitasking mom” clip and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour underwater-staging video; their candidate URLs were all 404 or invalid.
- Japanese searches (“Japan YouTube trending videos,” “Hikakin Comdot viral,” etc.) did not identify a single specific domestic viral video as of 2026-09-26. Access to Japan’s YouTube-trending ranking site yutura.net was also blocked with a 403 error.
- During the research, the Taylor Swift “bikini” image was found to be an AI-generated composite rather than real footage. It is a still image, not a video, so it is not included in Videos; however, it is worth noting that it is spreading as misinformation across social networks.

Signals
- Animal and pet videos were overwhelmingly strong: Three of the top 10 (the pet-bonding video, golden retriever, and octopus) were animal content, and those three also occupied the top ranks by likes.
- Vertical short-form formats dominate: Most aspect ratios were vertical (720×1280, 1080×1920, and so on), with many TikTok/Reels-style videos being reposted or syndicated.
- Videos that explain something and get shared have unusually high repost ratios: The El Niño explainer had 632 reposts against 1,165 likes (a 0.54 ratio), clearly more oriented toward distribution than other videos, whose ratios were around 0.1–0.2.
- Official, government, and individual artist accounts can also grow through video: A governor’s official account and a painter’s process video both ranked, suggesting that on Bluesky, “viral” is less meme-driven than on X/TikTok and can include local news and everyday documentation.
- No Japanese-language posts appeared in the top tier: The What's Hot feed mixed English, Portuguese, Spanish, and German, but no Japanese viral video was observed in this research (see Limits).
Limits
- Bluesky’s official post-search API (
app.bsky.feed.searchPosts) consistently returned 403 Forbidden across multiple keyword and parameter combinations, includingviral videoandバズってる動画, so search-based research was impossible. The same was true through the r.jina.ai proxy. - Bluesky’s official video-specific feed (
thevids) also returned 502 Bad Gateway, so the research used the popular-post feed “What's Hot” (whats-hot) as an alternative and extracted only posts with embedded video. This may miss videos that were viral only within small communities or video-specific feeds that did not reach What's Hot. - The
bsky.appweb search interface, hashtag pages, and third-party analytics sites such as bskysuite.com’s trends page required dynamic JavaScript loading; fetching them did not yield usable data. - View/play counts are not included in API responses, so virality was assessed only through likes, reposts, and replies.
- No Japanese posts matching “バズってる動画” or “話題の動画” were found within the material collected, which was centered on the top of What's Hot and English-speaking posts. Bluesky’s Japanese user base appears thinner than X or Reddit, and Japanese-specific viral video research would likely require a different route, such as a Japanese-community popular feed; API restrictions prevented deeper investigation this time.

Signals
- The places where video itself most consistently gathers on Lemmy are !«メールアドレス» and !«メールアドレス». Both are mid-sized communities with around 20,000 subscribers, and scores generally peak in the tens to around 100 points; Reddit-style massive virality is nearly absent.
- The two leading genre formats are clips of someone fighting back or escaping (#1, #3, #4) and soothing or aggressive-cat animal videos (#6, #7).
- News-driven “outrage videos” (#8, #9, #10) are usually not original Lemmy content, but secondary references and debates about footage that went viral on other platforms. Lemmy functions more as a place to discuss circulated news than as the original source of spreading.
- Overall, anti-authority, anti-big-tech, and politically charged topics (#5, #8, #9, #10) attract comments more easily, while simply cute or funny videos (#1, #6, #7) can earn high scores without generating much discussion.
Limits
- The brief’s completion target is 10 videos, but Lemmy is small as a video platform. Direct searches for “viral video,” “viral clip,” and similar terms mainly surface news references (#8, #9, #10). Posts where the video itself is gaining traction need to be found by individually visiting dedicated communities such as !videos and !cat; Japanese search terms “バズってる動画” and “話題の動画” returned 0 results.
- Lemmy has no official metric corresponding to views or likes. Post score (upvotes minus downvotes) and comment count were used instead. The view counts requested by the brief were unavailable.
- Poster names were not displayed in API search results and could not be retrieved here. Only community names are included.
- Direct searches on lemm.ee and lemmy.ml produced few results for either Japanese or English keywords, so collection effectively came from lemmy.world alone.
- Other viral-content communities, including c/nextfuckinglevel, c/interestingasfuck, and c/damnthatsinteresting, were also checked, but they had no new posts in the past 24–48 hours, no video content, or were effectively inactive (the most recent post in nextfuckinglevel was from 2024). They did not add useful material this time.
Recommended actions
- Frame any “today’s viral videos” coverage for a Japanese audience around overseas or re-emerging content, since no domestic Japanese viral video was found on any platform.
- Keep each platform's engagement metric separate (Reddit/Lemmy score+comments, Bluesky like+repost ratio, X's actual view counts) rather than comparing them directly, since raw view counts are missing almost everywhere.
- Track the escalating chain of assault/harassment videos out of India on Reddit for further political fallout.
- When covering AI-related video content, lead with AI-tool demo videos (well received) rather than AI-generated content presented as real (which drew backlash).
- Keep animal/pet and callout-outrage clips as fallback content categories on days without a single obvious breakout video.
- Investigate alternate access paths (different region settings, non-oEmbed APIs) for YouTube, since EU consent-wall blocking prevented verifying any view counts this run.
Data quality notes
All five platforms fell short of the brief's 10-videos-with-full-stats target and could rarely produce actual view counts (Reddit/Lemmy have no view metric, YouTube's pages were blocked by an EU consent wall, Bluesky's API omits view counts); Japanese-language search terms returned essentially zero results on every platform.
