KEN’S CAT LOG

Daily Google Play Report 2026-09-22

Feisar Watch Face newly entered watch-face/free in five markets at once—DE #2, GB #3, US #3, HR #6, and KR #6—while android-sports, driven mainly by soccer live-score apps in HR, recorded 76 new entries and a 78% top-10 retention rate, the lowest turnover stability of any category. Today’s highlights are the two waves of “watch faces” and “live scores.”

1. New Entries

The biggest signal is Feisar Watch Face. It entered android-watch-face/free in five markets on the same day: DE #2 / GB #3 / US #3 / HR #6 / KR #6. I-Digit Watch Face in the same segment (US #14, HR #27, KR #33), along with Autumn Frame & Halloween at DE #5, also arrived that day, indicating broad movement across the watch-face space. In games, Brawl Stars appeared simultaneously in five markets—DE #12, GB #21, HR #31, JP #34, and US #43—while Paper.io 2 entered three markets: GB, US, and DE. In beauty and AI, Hairu: Hairstyle Try On (DE #8, GB #14, HR #18, US #21), AI Hairstyle Try On & Color at GB art-and-design #4, and Dance AI at KR photography #5 appeared side by side. Among one-off entries, Rarevision VHS: Retro Cam at US photography/paid #1 stands out.

2. Sharp Monthly Gains

The baseline date is 2026-08-26 (27 days ago). Note that it is the oldest date available in the archive and does not provide a full month of data. The largest gains were in HR finance/grossing: Splitwise at #5 (+38), TradingView at #1 (+36), and Investing.com, which was absent on the baseline date, at #2. In the US, Gambonanza (paid #8, +34), TimeCue (#3, +33), and Smash Land! (#11, +31) rose sharply. KR showed notable broad gains among PDF apps. Apps absent on the baseline date that entered the top 20 this time include Muse from Meta (US productivity #1), DAVE THE DIVER (KR paid #1 / GB #2 / JP #2), and 하나증권V-대표MTS(NEW) (KR finance #1).

3. By Tier

The higher the rank, the more stable it is. The top tier (ranks 1–10) had 91% held / 1% new / 1.1 average movement; the mid tier had 84% / 3% / 2.7; and the bottom tier (ranks 31–45) had 69% / 18% / 3.5, with new inflows concentrated almost entirely in the lower ranks. Developer information is missing for every row, so it is not possible to identify developers dominating top slots.

4. By Country

HR had the most new entries at 168, followed by US with 161 and KR with 148. DE had the highest top-10 retention rate at 93%, while JP had the lowest at 88%. Apps occupying the top 10 in all six markets are Canva, Duolingo (both free and grossing, #1 in every market), ChatGPT, Tinder, WhatsApp, Spotify, Uber, Expo Go, and PDF Reader, PDF Viewer. Conversely, soccer live-score apps in HR, PDF and shopping apps in KR, and older Square Enix paid titles in JP are entirely local movements.

5. By Category

android-sports was the most volatile, with 76 new entries and 78% top-10 retention, followed by android-watch-face at 80% and android-health-and-fitness at 83%. By contrast, android-travel-and-local at 98%, android-music-and-audio at 96%, and android-maps-and-navigation and android-social at 95% saw almost no movement. android-game had 65 new entries, but its top 10 retained 92%, so turnover remained limited to the middle and lower ranks.

Key Findings

1. Feisar Watch Face enters five markets simultaneously, with the entire watch-face space in motion

It appeared on the same day in android-watch-face/free at DE #2 / GB #3 / US #3 / HR #6 / KR #6. That same day also saw I-Digit Watch Face (US #14, HR #27, KR #33), Autumn Frame & Halloween (DE #5, KR #24), and PER32 Ultra Hybrid Watch Face at GB personalization/grossing #10. android-watch-face had an 80% top-10 retention rate, the second-lowest among all 35 categories. This should be treated as turnover across the segment, not an isolated new release.

Confidence: High

2. HR android-sports sees near-total turnover driven by soccer live-score apps

New entries appeared all at once near the top of HR sports/free: BeSoccer #1, Football Live Scores & Alerts #3, Football Live Score: Soccer #6, LiveScore #8, Live Football Scores & Results #9, Football Live Scores & News #10, Yacine TV #13, and AiScore #14. Across the category, 76 new entries and 78% top-10 retention made this the largest turnover of any category. The same apps also spread lightly into lower positions (#38–#45) in GB and DE, with HR as the epicenter.

Confidence: High

3. Brawl Stars returns to game/free in five markets simultaneously

It entered charts in five markets on the same day: DE #12, GB #21, HR #31, JP #34, and US #43. Its positions are in the middle to lower ranks, but appearing across multiple markets simultaneously is a stronger signal than a high rank in a single market. android-game had 65 new entries, but 92% top-10 retention, meaning turnover was confined to the middle and lower tiers.

Confidence: High

4. AI hairstyle and AI-generation apps entered across beauty, art, and photography categories

Hairu: Hairstyle Try On appeared simultaneously in four markets—DE #8, GB #14, HR #18, and US #21—while AI Hairstyle Try On & Color entered GB art-and-design at #4 and Dance AI entered KR photography at #5. In addition, Dreamina AI appeared at US art-and-design #11 and Beatron - AI Music Maker at HR music-and-audio #8. “AI generation for faces, hair, dance, and music” appeared across different categories on the same day, making it the hottest theme for editorial planning.

Confidence: High

5. PDF reader apps rise together monthly, centered on KR and spreading to the US, JP, and DE

In KR productivity, PDF Reader, Annotate on PDF reached #8 (+30 versus the previous day), PDF Reader & Viewer: Edit PDF reached #14 (+29 versus the baseline), and PDF Reader, All PDF Viewer reached #12 (+25). In grossing, PDF Reader: Edit HWP, DOC, PPT reached #17 (+27). PDF Editor: Reader & Scanner also newly entered at KR #10, PDF Editor: Document Reader entered at DE #12, and PDF Hero reached JP business #18 (+23). The core app PDF Reader, PDF Viewer was top 10 in all six markets: KR #1, HR #2, DE #3, GB #3, US #4, and JP #8. This is not a single-app hit; it reflects rising category demand itself.

Confidence: High

6. The baseline is 2026-08-26, 27 days ago—not a true monthly comparison

The largest baseline gains were Splitwise at HR finance/grossing #5 (+38) and TradingView at #1 (+36), while Investing.com, absent on the baseline date, reached #2. In the US, Gambonanza reached paid #8 (+34) and TimeCue #3 (+33). However, the comparison period is 27 days rather than a full month, so these shifts should not be labeled definitive “monthly trends.” Many TOP_GROSSING charts were marked degraded, so HR finance/grossing figures in particular should be handled carefully.

Confidence: Medium

7. New inflows are concentrated in the lower tier: top held 91% / new 1%, bottom held 69% / new 18%

The top tier (ranks 1–10) was nearly static, with average movement of 1.1 ranks. The mid tier (ranks 11–30) had 84% held and 2.7 average movement, while the bottom tier (ranks 31–45) had 69% held, 18% new, and 3.5 average movement. The practical entry point for new apps is rank 31 and below, making that the most efficient range to monitor daily. Developer fields are missing for every row, so the developers monopolizing slots at each tier cannot be identified (the relevant table fields are also “—”).

Confidence: High

8. Fifteen global staples are top 10 in all six markets; Canva and Duolingo are #1 everywhere

Canva is #1 in art-and-design/free across DE, GB, HR, JP, KR, and US. Duolingo is #1 in all six markets in both education free and grossing. ChatGPT is #1 in productivity/free in four markets, while Tinder is #1 in dating/free in HR, KR, and US. These should be treated as stable assumptions, with editorial decision-making focused on turnover in the lower tiers.

Confidence: High

9. DAVE THE DIVER reaches leading paid positions in three markets, while older Square Enix titles surge in JP

DAVE THE DIVER rose from being absent on the baseline date to KR game/paid #1, GB #2, and JP #2. In JP paid, CHRONO TRIGGER (Upgrade Ver.) reached #11 (+27), ドラゴンクエストモンスターズ2 SP reached #6 (+23), and トルネコの大冒険 reached #1, moving the retro-port shelf at the same time. JP has the lowest top-10 retention rate of the six markets at 88%, making it the market most likely to surface new movement right now.

Confidence: Medium

10. Categories that barely moved: travel-and-local 98%, music-and-audio 96%

android-travel-and-local had 98% top-10 retention and 18 new entries; android-music-and-audio had 96% retention and 25 new entries; android-maps-and-navigation and android-social were both at 95%. These offer little as sources for today’s stories, while sports (78%), watch-face (80%), and health-and-fitness (83%) are more rational areas for editorial resources.

Confidence: High

Recommended Actions

  • Make the simultaneous five-market / three-market entries of Feisar Watch Face and I-Digit Watch Face today’s primary story. The Wear OS watch-face space has an 80% top-10 retention rate and turns over quickly, so capture it today on the assumption that different apps may replace them tomorrow.
  • Elevate HR android-sports to a temporary daily monitoring target. More than eight live-score apps, including BeSoccer at #1, entered on the same day; verify with the 2026-09-23 collection whether this is a recurring pattern tied to the European soccer schedule.
  • Package AI hairstyle / AI generation (Hairu, AI Hairstyle Try On & Color, Dance AI, Dreamina AI, Beatron) as one cross-category feature. Each is weak in isolation, but together they form a sufficiently dense same-day inflow across beauty, art-and-design, photography, and music-and-audio.
  • Add KR PDF reader apps (four free apps plus one grossing app) to the continuing watchlist, and determine whether localized HWP support is a KR-specific differentiator. Upgrade this into a global story if spillover into the US, DE, and JP continues.
  • Prioritize re-collecting degraded TOP_GROSSING data—especially across DE and HR—on the next run, filling the 33 missing charts and 19 non-comparable charts. Reconfirm grossing-led conclusions, including HR finance apps such as Splitwise and TradingView, after re-collection.
  • File missing developer and ratingCount data (81,365 each) as a collection-pipeline issue. Developer-level concentration analysis remains absent from the current tier report, preventing publisher-focused reporting.
  • Focus daily monitoring on ranks 31 and below (the bottom tier: 69% held / 18% new). The top 10 is nearly static, with 91% retention and average movement of 1.1 ranks, making it less valuable to review every day.

Data Quality Notes

For the target date 2026-09-22, 358 charts and 13,364 rows were collected. Of 391 charts in scope (after excluding 239 whose sources were not yet published from the configured schedule), 33 charts were not collected. Of the 358 charts, 339 could be compared with the previous day, 2026-09-21; the remaining 19 lacked a previous collection and were not evaluated for “new entries” (they are non-comparable, not necessarily without new entries). Of recent runs, 6 completed partially and 36 fetches failed. Degraded sources were heavily concentrated in TOP_GROSSING, including 18 DE categories, 19 HR categories, and many grossing/paid charts in GB and US. Therefore, grossing rankings and changes (for example, HR finance/grossing and KR productivity/grossing) are one level less reliable than free-chart data. Attribute gaps include 81,365 missing developer values, 81,365 missing ratingCount values, and 1,610 missing rating values, making developer-level concentration analysis and verification based on rating counts impossible this time. The baseline date, 2026-08-26, is the oldest collection date in the archive and falls 27 days before the target date, so it is not a strict one-month comparison.
