KEN’S CAT LOG

Daily Google Play Report 2026-09-23

The biggest signal today is the simultaneous multi-country emergence of photo/AI image and PDF/document apps, led by Momo (HR #12, DE #33, US #33, GB #44) and Shots (GB #19, US #28, HR #39). android-photography saw the highest churn of any category, with an 86% top-10 retention rate and 31 new entries, while a 16% new-entry rate in the lower tier (#31–#45) is absorbing much of that turnover.

1. New Entries

Photo and AI image-editing apps entered multiple countries on the same day. Momo: AI Photo & Video Maker appeared in four countries: HR #12 / DE #33 / US #33 / GB #44. Shots - AI Photo & Video Maker appeared at GB #19 / US #28 / HR #39, followed by Photoroom (GB #36 / JP #38 / DE #39) and Remini (HR #38 / JP #40 / US #44). On the productivity side, CamScanner entered at US #40 / DE #42 / GB #42, while PDF Editor: Reader & Scanner entered at DE #22 / GB #29. Among high-ranking entries, StbEmu (Pro) stood out at US/android-video-players paid #1, 8 Ball Pool at US/android-game free #3, and The White House at HR/news #4 and GB/news #11.

2. Sharp Monthly Rises

The reference date is 2026-08-26 (28 days ago; the oldest archived collection date, so there is not yet a full month of data). HR finance/grossing moved heavily: TradingView #1 (+36), Splitwise #5 (+38), Kraken #6 (+23), and Investing.com, absent on the reference date, at #2. In paid charts, Gambonanza reached US #8 (+34) / GB #8 (+29), while DAVE THE DIVER, absent on the reference date, landed at KR #1, GB #2, and US #2. In the US, TimeCue reached #3 (+33), and Muse from Meta newly landed at productivity free #1.

3. By Tier

The top tier (#1–#10) is stable, with 3,210 slots, 91% held, 1% new, and average movement of 1. The middle tier has 86% held and |Δ| 2.8, while the lower tier (#31–#45) has 71% held, 16% new, and |Δ| 3.3. New entries are concentrated in the lower tier, and most of today's simultaneous multi-country arrivals also landed between #33 and #45. The developer field is blank across all tiers, so it is not possible to determine whether specific developers dominate the top ranks.

4. By Country

The common pattern is clear: Canva and Duolingo are #1 in all six countries, while ChatGPT is #1 in DE/GB/HR/JP and #2 in KR/US. Tinder is also #1 in five countries. Local character appears in HR (new entry moj ZET at #4 and mojaBIPA #1 (+23)), DE (Finanzfluss Copilot grossing #10 and Jagdwetter #11), and KR (커피한잔 #3 (+31)). Top-10 retention rates are 93% in DE/KR, 92% in HR/JP, 90% in the US, and 89% in GB.

5. By Category

The most volatile categories were android-watch-face (84%), android-photography (86%), android-travel-and-local (86%), and android-medical (87%). By contrast, android-house-and-home at 96%, and android-communication / android-finance / android-food-and-drink at 95%, were largely static. By number of new entries, android-game ranked first with 47, followed by android-tools with 44, android-photography with 31, and android-productivity with 31. PDF readers and AI photo apps are driving those totals.

Key Findings

1. AI photo and video editing apps enter multiple countries simultaneously on the same day (Momo / Shots / Photoroom / Remini)

Momo: AI Photo & Video Maker entered four markets on the same day: HR #12, DE #33, US #33, and GB #44. Shots - AI Photo & Video Maker appeared at GB #19, US #28, and HR #39; Photoroom at GB #36, JP #38, and DE #39; and Remini at HR #38, JP #40, and US #44. This is not a single-chart event but a simultaneous arrival across three to four markets, consistent with android-photography's 86% top-10 retention rate and 31 new entries. A window for new entrants in AI-powered photo apps is opening right now.

Confidence: High

2. PDF/document readers are strong in both new entries and monthly gains

On the new-entry side, CamScanner appeared at US #40, DE #42, and GB #42, while PDF Editor: Reader & Scanner appeared at DE #22 and GB #29. In JP, PDF Photos & PDF Reader ranked productivity free #4. On the monthly side, KR saw PDF Reader & Viewer at #13 (+30), PDF Reader: Edit HWP, DOC, PPT at grossing #17 (+27), and PDF Reader: Document Reader, absent on the reference date, at KR #1. android-productivity recorded 31 new entries. The same genre is growing in both free and paid charts, leaving substantial room for entry.

Confidence: High

3. The White House rises simultaneously in three markets (US #3, HR #4, GB #11)

HR #4 and GB #11 are new entries today, while in the US it ranks news-and-magazines free #3, up +35 from the prior reading. News apps generally have stable top rankings (android-news-and-magazines has 91% top-10 retention and 27 new entries), so a non-commercial app reaching high ranks simultaneously in three markets is likely driven by an external event. It is a sign of temporarily elevated demand for news/current-affairs content.

Confidence: High

4. HR finance/grossing sees near-total turnover since the reference date

Compared with 2026-08-26, TradingView reached #1 (+36), Splitwise #5 (+38), and Kraken #6 (+23), while Investing.com, absent on the reference date, reached #2. Investment, remittance, and bill-splitting apps have all moved into top positions, indicating a change in the paid-chart lineup across HR's finance category rather than an isolated app event. However, android-finance has a high 95% top-10 retention rate across all markets, so this should be treated as a localized HR movement.

Confidence: Medium

5. Gambonanza and DAVE THE DIVER capture paid-game charts across the UK, US, and Korea

Gambonanza ranked US/android-game paid #8 (+34) and GB #8 (+29). DAVE THE DIVER, absent on the reference date, landed at KR #1, GB #2, and US #2. Unlike free charts, paid charts have a thinner base, so a single release or price reduction can move rankings easily. For content introducing or comparing premium games, these two are today's central titles.

Confidence: High

6. New entries concentrate in the lower tier, while the top 10 is nearly fixed (new 1%, average movement 1)

The top 3,210 slots are effectively fixed, with 91% held, 1% new, and |Δ| 1. The 5,859 middle-tier slots have 86% held and |Δ| 2.8, while the 4,058 lower-tier slots have 71% held, 16% new, and |Δ| 3.3, absorbing most of the churn. In other words, to track “apps that entered today,” look at ranks #31–#45; daily articles covering the top ranks have limited update value. The developer field is blank across all tiers, so today's data cannot determine whether a small number of developers dominate the top ranks.

Confidence: High

7. Canva and Duolingo are the only “fully global” #1 apps across all six markets

Canva: AI Photo & Video Editor is art-and-design free #1 in DE/GB/HR/JP/KR/US, and Duolingo is education free #1 in all six countries. ChatGPT is #1 in DE/GB/HR/JP and #2 in KR/US; Tinder is #1 in DE/GB/HR/KR/US and #2 in JP. These are shared topics that do not require market-specific articles, whereas the lineup otherwise diverges by market.

Confidence: High

8. Local-only movements: transit and retail in HR, finance/weather monetization in DE, dating in KR

In HR, moj ZET is a new entry at travel-and-local free #4, while mojaBIPA is shopping free #1 (+23). In DE, Finanzfluss Copilot entered finance/grossing #10, Jagdwetter entered weather/grossing #11, and CoMaps reached maps free #7 (+31, equivalent to +34). In KR, 커피한잔 reached dating free #3 (+31). Each is limited to one market, making them unsuitable for cross-market expansion but strong anchors for locally focused articles.

Confidence: Medium

9. Paid watch faces take top ranks simultaneously in GB and KR; watch-face is the most unstable category

In GB, PER32 Ultra Hybrid Watch Face ranked personalization paid #2, while MD307 Digital watch face entered at #3. In KR, LUMINOR PANERAI Watch face entered at paid #2 across all three charts: android-wear, personalization, and watch-face. android-watch-face has the lowest top-10 retention rate of any category at 84%, indicating a market structure where individual watch-face launches can readily move top rankings.

Confidence: High

10. Categories that are not moving: house-and-home 96%; communication / finance / food-and-drink 95%

android-house-and-home has 7 charts and 16 new entries, yet a 96% top-10 retention rate. android-communication (19 entries, 95%), android-finance (18 entries, 95%), and android-food-and-drink (15 entries, 95%) show the same pattern. These are low-value areas for daily tracking; production resources should shift toward photography (86%), travel-and-local (86%), medical (87%), and entertainment (88%).

Confidence: High

11. GB has the most missing comparable charts—43 of 56—so GB “new entries” are underestimated

Only 43 of GB's 56 charts are comparable with the previous reading on 2026-09-22, with 119 new entries and an 89% top-10 retention rate. This is because GB's TOP_GROSSING / TOP_PAID sources are broadly degraded, so it cannot be concluded that its paid charts did not move. The missing data is markedly higher than in the US (64 of 72), DE (58 of 62), HR (61 of 64), JP (48 of 50), and KR (50 of 53).

Confidence: High

Recommended Actions

  • Today's highest priority is a cross-market comparison of AI photo-editing apps. Center it on Momo (HR #12 / DE #33 / US #33 / GB #44) and Shots (GB #19 / US #28 / HR #39), with established players Photoroom and Remini as comparisons, to capitalize on the time-sensitive freshness of their simultaneous appearance in four markets.
  • Build a PDF/document-reader feature around KR. KR is the only market where free and paid momentum coincide: PDF Reader: Document Reader is free #1, PDF Reader & Viewer is #13 (+30), and PDF Reader: Edit HWP, DOC, PPT is grossing #17 (+27).
  • Track The White House's simultaneous rise in three markets (US #3 / HR #4 / GB #11) in the next collection to determine whether it is driven by an external event. If it remains the next day, treat it as an ongoing topic; if it disappears, treat it as a spike. For today, keep it as a breaking update.
  • Narrow daily monitoring to the lower tier (#31–#45, new 16%). The top 10 barely moves, with new entries at 1% and average movement of 1, making daily coverage of it cost-ineffective.
  • Hold off on GB paid and monetization-related articles today. Only 43 of 56 charts can be compared with the prior reading, and GB's TOP_GROSSING / TOP_PAID sources are broadly degraded. Do not write that there was “no movement” simply because the numbers are unavailable.
  • File the missing developer / ratingCount fields (80,255 each) as a data-collection issue. Analysis of developer concentration or rating-count-based performance cannot be written at all with the current data.

Data Quality Notes

For 2026-09-23, 357 charts / 13,127 rows were collected. Of 389 target charts (the scheduled count in configuration, excluding 241 whose sources are unpublished), 32 were not collected. Of the 357, 324 charts could be compared with the previous reading on 2026-09-22; for the remaining 33, no change or new-entry determination was made because there was no previous reading (rows from charts absent in the prior reading were not counted as new). Of recent runs, 6 completed partially and 35 fetches failed; degraded sources are concentrated in TOP_GROSSING and TOP_PAID. In particular, TOP_GROSSING is missing for 18 major categories in DE and 19 categories in HR, while much of TOP_GROSSING / TOP_PAID is missing in GB. Conclusions about monetization and paid rankings in these markets should therefore be read cautiously. The reference date, 2026-08-26, is 28 days ago and the oldest archived collection date. There is not yet a full month of history, so “monthly” is strictly a comparison of slightly under four weeks. For attributes, developer is missing in 80,255 records, ratingCount in 80,255, and rating in 1,352; as a result, developer-level concentration (the developers column in the tier table) cannot yet be calculated.
