Daily Viral Video — 2026-09-29
Videos that have surged sharply in the past 24–48 hours were scarce across all five social networks. Instead, several-day-old topics—such as soccer (Ireland vs. Israel) and tribute clips following PAC’s sudden death—topped each platform.
Today’s Viral Videos — 2026-09-29
I checked Reddit, X, YouTube, Bluesky, and Lemmy today, but honestly, there were few videos anywhere that had truly exploded over the last 24–48 hours. Instead, each platform seemed to surface its own version of something that looked viral. If anything, videos related to the Nations League match between Ireland and Israel appeared on both X and Bluesky, making them today’s clearest case of a topic gaining traction across multiple social networks. The leading items on the individual platforms included street-harassment footage from India (Reddit), tribute clips after wrestler PAC’s sudden death (Bluesky), an unexpectedly compelling crochet video (YouTube), and footage of someone escaping police on a bicycle (Lemmy). No platform met the completion target of “10 videos with links, creators, and metrics”; collection stopped at roughly 7–9 items each.
Across platforms
- Finding videos that had surged in the last 24–48 hours was difficult everywhere. Reddit’s notable threads were from September 22–27; X had posts from match day (September 27–28), but the search began with Explore trend terms; YouTube items came via Netlab articles dated September 19–27; Bluesky results came from a September 28 trending-topics API; and Lemmy’s fastest-growing post was from September 25. On every platform, this was more a snapshot of momentum from the past few days to a week than content that was truly viral today.
- Many social networks are acting as secondary-distribution spaces rather than places where the content originates. Bluesky prominently amplified “animal videos from Reddit” and obituary news from elsewhere, while Lemmy was likewise centered on video introductions through article links. Both felt more like places that pick up and spread content than places where the videos themselves are born.
- A night of sports drove the conversation across social media. That day’s sports events were major fuel for video virality on both X (Ireland vs. Israel, the armband-kiss video) and Bluesky (Phillies and Bills fan videos).
- The same underlying story sometimes crossed multiple platforms. The “person accidentally shown in the stands” format (Reddit #1 and #11, plus Lemmy’s Giants-stands mother essay #5) showed the same phenomenon being approached from different angles on different networks.
- “Calling out the numbers” has become content in itself. On both Reddit (#9 fact-checking the real 210 million views, #10 pointing out a contradiction in an AI-detection probability) and X (#9’s TikTok “staging suspicion” involving Orm), the strongest reactions challenged hype based only on vibes with numbers or inconsistencies.
- No platform reached 10 items. Reddit had roughly 9 substantive items, X had 5 effective clusters (7 posts), YouTube had 7, Bluesky had 7 (5 topics), and Lemmy had 5–6. The reasons differed by platform, but the common obstacle was that tools for directly identifying “viral videos” through search terms or APIs remain weak.
Platform by platform
Reddit: There was a noticeable skew toward India-related subreddits (6 of 12 items), apparently because the phrase “viral video” is especially common in Indian news writing. A recurring pattern—street harassment in Bihar → social-media spread → arrest—appeared simultaneously in multiple threads (https://www.reddit.com/r/Indianlaw/comments/1wovahd/ , https://www.reddit.com/r/IndiaTodayLIVE/comments/1wpro02/). The only item with an explicit actual view count was “Kalyani” in a BollywoodMusic thread, at 210 million views; for the rest, only Reddit-side scores were generally available.
X: The top Explore trends reflected a Croatian perspective, with place names and people trending rather than videos themselves. The clearest viral example was the post-match “black armband kiss” video from Ireland vs. Israel, independently introduced by two English-language accounts and one Spanish-language account (https://x.com/ShaykhSulaiman/status/2104322699539390501). @oocSpain’s caption-free clip had the highest view count among the collected posts (about 970,000), demonstrating in the numbers the strength of the “no explanation needed” excerpt format.
YouTube: Because search and trending pages were rendered in JavaScript and could not be read directly, verification switched to Netlab articles. The standout was a Chompu Handicrafts zipper-and-crochet coin-purse video with more than 9.6 million views (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaVIb--ykmo); the rest ranged from roughly 20,000 to 170,000 views. In the Japanese-language space, affordable outfit-styling videos remain reliably successful in the familiar before/after format.
Bluesky: The post-search API returned 403 and a video-specific feed returned 502, so collection switched to extracting video-related topics from the official trending-topics API. The results skewed toward English-language North American sports and wrestling, with almost no Japanese content. The strongest engagement came from tribute clips following the sudden death of wrestler PAC (age 40) (https://bsky.app/profile/davidbix.com/post/3mwmb2bhkvk2q and others), making “obituary news + video” Bluesky’s biggest engagement driver today.
Lemmy: This is not a platform with a strong video-sharing culture; in most cases, “viral” simply appeared as a word in news headlines. Even so, a live-action clip involving police and a troublesome customer from !«メールアドレス» (https://lemmy.world/post/52368372 , 537 upvotes) performed best, confirming that “raw conflict and a satisfying escape” is a strong format there.
What to watch
- Ireland national team’s black-armband kiss video (X, https://x.com/ShaykhSulaiman/status/2104322699539390501) — Being independently shared in English and Spanish; watch whether it continues spreading into other languages.
- Tribute clips following wrestler PAC’s sudden death (Bluesky, https://bsky.app/profile/davidbix.com/post/3mwmb2bhkvk2q) — Watch how far this obituary-driven viral cycle grows.
- The Bihar street-harassment-to-arrest pattern (Reddit, https://www.reddit.com/r/IndiaTodayLIVE/comments/1wpro02/) — Similar incidents recur, so more examples may emerge.
- Chompu Handicrafts’ crochet video (9.6 million views) (YouTube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaVIb--ykmo) — Worth ongoing tracking as an example of the surprise-hook genre.
- Orm Kornnaphat’s TikTok “staging suspicion” (X, https://x.com/lovsubnews/status/2104622614610350453) — A case gaining traction partly because of the allegation; watch for follow-up coverage.
- The video of someone escaping police on a bicycle (Lemmy, https://lemmy.world/post/52368372) — A rare live-action clip with strong numbers on Lemmy; watch whether reposts help it grow on other networks.
Recommendations
- Do not adhere too rigidly to the “within 24–48 hours” window; adjust the collection period flexibly based on the limitations of each platform’s discovery tools, especially for YouTube and Bluesky.
- Make digging for videos via rising Explore terms, rather than keyword search, the standard fallback procedure for X research.
- Expand Reddit research beyond the India-related bias of the phrase “viral video” by including video-focused communities such as r/videos and r/PublicFreakout.
- Establish collection through the trending-topics API as Bluesky’s official fallback workflow, on the assumption that its search API and video feed may be unreliable.
- For stories spreading across multiple networks—such as the Irish armband-kiss video and the mother-in-the-stands story—treat cross-platform reach itself as a stronger signal of virality than metrics from a single platform.
- Accept that Lemmy is not a main venue for viral videos, and lower the expected number of results next time or narrow the communities being monitored further.
Data quality
Reddit was weakened by its skew toward India-related communities and by the fact that only one item included the video’s own view count. X collection began from trend terms rather than search queries, and only 5 effective video clusters (7 posts) could be identified. YouTube search and trending pages could not be directly retrieved due to JavaScript rendering, so verification relied on Netlab articles; this means publication date and the onset of rapid growth may not align. Bluesky’s post-search API (403) and video-specific feed (502) were both unavailable, forcing a trending-topics API fallback that skewed toward English-language content. Lemmy has little video-sharing culture to begin with: “viral” was mostly used in news headlines, and no platform provided view counts for the videos themselves. All five networks fell short of the “10 items with metrics” completion threshold, stopping at 7–9 items (5–6 for Lemmy).

India-related subreddits (Indianlaw, TwentiesIndia, youtubeindia, IndiaTodayLIVE ×2, BollywoodMusic) accounted for 6 of the 12 items, a substantial bias. The phrase “viral video” appears to be common in Indian news articles and everyday conversation, and the search seems to have been pulled in that direction.
What people say
-
Thread #1 (r/CFB_v2, 101 pt, 2026-09-27) https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB_v2/comments/1wrvx5z/ — A blonde female fan shown during a college-football game was identified and went viral. u/McRambis (72 pt) responded coolly: “I saw her in the game and I immediately thought she was trying for this exact scenario.”
-
Thread #2 (r/Indianlaw, 863 pt, 2026-09-24) https://www.reddit.com/r/Indianlaw/comments/1wovahd/ and Thread #7 (r/IndiaTodayLIVE, 952 pt, 2026-09-25) https://www.reddit.com/r/IndiaTodayLIVE/comments/1wpro02/ — Both cover footage of harassment and assault against women in Bihar spreading on social media, leading police to act, make arrests, and file FIRs (formal complaints). In Thread #7, u/Satyabrata1210 (8 pt) criticized the editorial approach: “Hello dumb editors at India Today, what with the face blurring of people doing wrong?”
-
Thread #3 (r/TwentiesIndia, 750 pt, 2026-09-26) https://www.reddit.com/r/TwentiesIndia/comments/1wqtl7m/ — The title is only “This clip never gets old,” with no explanation of the video’s content in the post body. Comments such as u/Party_Initiative_621’s (5 pt) “Me with my sisters lmao” suggest it resonated as a relatable scenario.
-
Thread #6 (r/IndiaTodayLIVE, 102 pt, 2026-09-27) https://www.reddit.com/r/IndiaTodayLIVE/comments/1wrjb9b/ — A video of Delhi minister Parvesh Verma slapping a young person during a road inspection spread widely; he later explained that he “lost his temper.” u/Idiotsofblr (56 pt) dismissed him bluntly: “Resign and get out.”
-
Thread #9 (r/BollywoodMusic, 1,048 pt, 2026-09-26) https://www.reddit.com/r/BollywoodMusic/comments/1wqty2w/ — In a “Songs that went viral out of nowhere” thread, users mention Kalyani, Fine Shyt, O Sanam, and others. u/masterjv81 (43 pt) pushes back with an actual view count: “The first one "kalyani" is not out of anywhere... 210 million views.”
-
Thread #10 (r/AliensRHere, 471 pt, 2026-09-25) https://www.reddit.com/r/AliensRHere/comments/1wptr62/ — A video of an unidentified object in the skies over China. The poster says that an AI scanner gave it a “1.2% probability of NOT AI,” prompting u/yn3kk (5 pt) to flag the numerical contradiction: “1% of being NOT AI means 99% of being AI. Which is it?”
-
Thread #11 (r/Feminism, 694 pt, 2026-09-25) https://www.reddit.com/r/Feminism/comments/1wq01ey/ — A video from the stands during a Twins vs. Giants game went viral after commentators teased a mother carrying children, a backpack, and food while her husband sat beside her doing nothing. u/margaritabop (172 pt) left a longer reflection: “We sometimes leap to make it individual... this is how society raises men and women.”
-
Thread #12 (r/ElectroBOOM, 1,313 pt, 2026-09-22) https://www.reddit.com/r/ElectroBOOM/comments/1wnoimu/ — Titled simply “Fucking crazy video,” this is an electrical-stunt video. u/PikaJew (23 pt) expressed straightforward amazement: “Not gonna lie, that shit is legit cool as fuck.”
-
Thread #5 (r/cdramasfans, 315 pt, 2026-09-23) https://www.reddit.com/r/cdramasfans/comments/1wo0nl4/ — More a trend than a single video. A new iQIYI trailer became a Weibo topic because of its abundance of kissing and bed scenes, prompting discussion of whether it was following the hit Early Spring. u/Weak-War-5289 (9 pt) noted the Chinese-drama industry’s tendency to chase a successful formula: “it's the c drama trend, if one drama releases and turns out as hit, boom 5 to 6 drama lineups on same topic are ready.”
-
Thread #4 (r/youtubeindia, 64 pt, 2026-09-27) https://www.reddit.com/r/youtubeindia/comments/1wrgbaw/ — Also not a video itself, but a complaint that a YouTuber’s videos are no longer as entertaining as before. u/FrickAndFurious (26 pt) raises a staging allegation: “It's all scripted. The contestants who win are generally already signed with his talent agency.”
Signals
- What is growing: The sequence of street-harassment video → online spread → police response in India (#2, #7) appears to be happening repeatedly, making it seem like an established pattern in Bihar.
- Disagreement: While most commenters in #2 condemn the perpetrators, u/Far-Elevator-4508 (7 pt) makes the opposite defense—“no one is being SA. its just their culture”—showing a strong if minority divide in sentiment.
- A new way to engage: In #10, simply running a video through an AI-detection tool becomes fuel for virality; the authenticity debate itself becomes content.
- What stood out: In threads like #9 about songs that “really went viral,” the most-upvoted comment corrects a vibe-based claim with the actual 210 million-view figure. Reddit appears more inclined to trust numbers than atmosphere.
- Videos with split interpretations: #1 and #11 both center on a person incidentally shown in the stands, but #1 is mocked as deliberate while #11 is discussed seriously as a structural social issue. The same accidental-on-camera format receives entirely different treatment.
Limits
- Five search terms (went viral / viral video / viral clip / videos that are buzzing / videos people are talking about) surfaced only 12 threads total. The two Japanese search terms surfaced #4 (youtubeindia), #8 (youtube), and #12 (ElectroBOOM), all English-language threads; no discussion of “buzzing videos” in Japanese communities was found.
- Thread publication dates ranged from 2026-09-22 to 09-27, with no posts from within the last 24–48 hours as of today (2026-09-29). They may not meet the criterion of a recent surge.
- #8 (r/youtube, 26 pt) is a report of a YouTube app display bug, unrelated to viral videos; it was included solely because it matched a search term.
- #3, #4, #5, and #8 are not strictly cases of a particular individual video going viral (they are a relatable post, creator commentary, an industry trend, and a bug report). As videos with a clear poster, view count, and like count, they are difficult to count. In practical terms, there were only about 9 items that could qualify as viral videos with links, creators, and metrics—short of 10.
- For most threads, the only available figures are Reddit scores and comment counts; the only video with an actual view count stated in a post or comment was #9 (Kalyani, 210 million views). Actual view counts for the other videos are unknown.
- Reddit could not be browsed directly; research was limited to the worker-collected
output/reddit.threads.md.

X — Today’s Viral Videos
X’s Explore trends today are Greece / Holy / TikTok / $SONG / Ireland / London / Spain / Italy / Israel / Lando. Four of these (Holy, TikTok, $SONG, Ireland) are explicitly marked “Trending in Croatia,” indicating that this session is viewed from Croatia. This is therefore not a global trend list, but one from a Croatian perspective.
Accounts
All 40 collected items came from 40 different accounts, with one post each; no case involved a single person repeatedly posting and gaining traction. More interesting instead is the pattern of completely separate accounts in different languages independently picking up the same video or event:
- @ShaykhSulaiman (Sulaiman Ahmed, a politically oriented account) / @Rufus_45 (The Final Whistle, a soccer-news account) / @catrina_nortena (La Catrina Norteña, a Spanish-language account) — All three shared the same moment of an Irish national-team player kissing a black armband dedicated to Gaza victims, in English, English, and Spanish respectively. It is a classic example of one video spreading across language boundaries.
- @oocSpain (Out of context Spain) — A clip-focused account built around isolated “out of context” moments. This post also consisted only of the clip, with no text, yet had the highest view count in the collection.
- @LingOrm_BH / @lonongnub_trend / @lovsubnews — Fan-account cluster following Thai actress Orm Kornnaphat. All three covered the same event—Orm filming a TikTok at the airport while heading to Dior PFW—from different angles.
- @momonamatsumoto (Momona Matsumoto) — A case of the idol herself posting a direct TikTok link on her X account, rather than distribution through fan accounts.
- @Rivonn — An account focused on AI/crypto that gained traction by picking up discussion of a video-generation AI model.

Shares the same match through a self-deprecating joke about celebrating another country’s goal, and is discussed alongside the armband video in item 1.
Signals
- What is growing: Half of today’s 10 Explore trends (Greece / Ireland / Spain / Italy) relate to the soccer Nations League, and the collected posts likewise center most heavily on that night’s matches, particularly Ireland vs. Israel. Rather than “viral videos,” the structure is that a night of simultaneous multinational soccer matches created the broader X conversation.
- What is growing: One piece of footage—the Irish armband kiss—was independently shared by two English-language accounts and one Spanish-language account. Its movement across language barriers is the clearest form of virality on X today.
- Skeptical reactions: Orm Kornnaphat’s TikTok (#9) grew not only through positive sharing, but also alongside suspicion that the unusual room props suggested staging. It is a case where the allegation itself contributes to the numbers.
- What was surprising: Explore had no trend resembling “viral video.” Rather than videos, country names and people (Greece, Holy, Lando, and so on) were trending as terms. The contents of individual videos only became visible after using those terms as leads to dig into specific posts.
- Strength of the format: A clip-only, no-caption account such as @oocSpain earned the highest view count in the collection (about 971,000), quantitatively showing the strength of the self-explanatory excerpt format.
Limits
- This round was collected using that day’s Explore terms (Greece, Holy, TikTok, $SONG, Ireland, London, Spain, Italy, Israel, Lando), not X-specific search keywords such as “went viral” or “viral video.” As a result, many of the 40 collected items were match reactions or meme-like text posts rather than videos. Only the 7 posts above (5 effective clusters) could be presented as video content, below the brief’s target of 10 per network.
- The collection data includes a hasPhoto flag but no flag indicating the presence of video. Therefore, even the items treated as videos above were inferred from the wording of their posts, not verified as videos through X metadata.
- Four of the top 10 Explore items are labeled “Trending in Croatia,” while the other six show only categories such as “Sports · Trending” and no location; the intended region for those items is unknown.
- Four $SONG (cryptocurrency) posts and four Lando Norris (F1) posts were text-focused and contained no reference to video, so they were excluded from the Posts summary.
- Each of the 40 accounts had only one collected post; no account was found repeatedly posting and growing through multiple posts.

Signals
- The videos identified as growing this time were not necessarily breakout hits from the past 24–48 hours. Instead, they clustered into three genres accumulating views over roughly the past week: overseas timelapse content (gardening and DIY), Japanese affordable mix-and-match outfit content, and fabric-scrap remakes. All share the pattern of “unassuming process → surprising finished result,” a standard format routinely highlighted by curation media such as Netlab.
- Item No. 7, the crochet video with more than 9.6 million views, is the clear outlier; the rest range from 20,000 to 170,000 views. Even in the same remake/craft category, the difference is enormous, suggesting that the strength of the hook—an unexpected zipper-and-crochet combination—strongly affects view counts.
- Japanese fashion items (No. 4 and No. 5) use the standard formula of price appeal plus before/after transformation: “making an inexpensive item look premium.” Both were newly published within the past week.
Limits
- YouTube search-result pages (
youtube.com/results?...) and the trending page (youtube.com/feed/trending) are JavaScript-rendered SPAs. Even when opened using the procedure in the playbook, the retrieved HTML contained only footer links and did not expose titles, channel names, view counts, or dates. The trending page redirected to a cookie-consent screen; after consent, it still returned only the footer. Individual video pages (youtube.com/watch?v=...) had the same issue. - It was therefore difficult to identify trending videos directly through ordinary search engines. Collection switched to Japanese media articles (Netlab) that actually embed or link YouTube videos and report view and like counts. Consequently, the collected examples were primarily cases recently covered by that outlet (dated 2026-09-19 through 09-27), rather than videos directly confirmed to have surged in the past 24–48 hours. Article dates are known, but video upload dates and the point at which views rose rapidly are often not stated.
- Among candidates found through Netlab, a JAL TikTok video (330,000 views), a Shine Muscat cheesecake video posted in 2021, and a shirt-remake video posted in 2024 were excluded because they were not YouTube-originated or were too old.
- Subscriber numbers could not be confirmed through the articles, and YouTube channel pages were likewise inaccessible because of JavaScript rendering.
- The list stopped at 7 videos rather than 10. Searches of Japanese “videos trending now” news sites (grape, RocketNews24, etc.) and 5ch/NanJ aggregation sites did not find articles from September 28–29 specifically naming YouTube videos.
Bluesky
Bluesky — Today’s Viral Videos
Preface: Today there was no way to directly search Bluesky for “viral videos” using keywords (see Limits). Instead, current trends were taken from Bluesky’s official trending-topics API (app.bsky.unspecced.getTrendingTopics), then only video-related topics were investigated. As a result, the findings are generally skewed toward English-language content, especially North American sports and gaming communities.
Accounts
- davidbix.com (David Bixenspan, wrestling journalist) — Quickly shared a live-stream speech video by AEW owner Tony Khan, adding only “I’m gonna cry,” and gained traction.
- homunculusdick.bsky.social (Big Show Ripping Darts) — An account that digs up old wrestling material. Today it resurfaced an unused NXT gimmick video in connection with the memorial discussion, making it viral again.
- ronununu.bsky.social / raynarvaezjr.sucks — Individual gamers posting commentary clips while playing the newly released horror game Silent Hill: Townfall.
- snarkysillysad.bsky.social (Michelle) — A general account that reposts animal videos from Reddit’s r/NatureIsFuckingLit to Bluesky, with source credit.
- zephyrsky.bsky.social — A Philadelphia Phillies baseball fan reacting to an official team hype video.
- droobiee.bsky.social — A Buffalo Bills NFL fan reacting to a pregame national-anthem video.
- Reference: Bluesky’s official trend-generation bot trending.bsky.app (the source behind more than 12,000 topic-specific feeds) and a roughly Japanese equivalent, the “Japan Trends” feed (
trend-words-jp.bsky.social), a bot that posts domestic trend words every 30 minutes but does not introduce videos.

Signals
- What is growing: The most video-driven growth on Bluesky today comes from news of the sudden death of wrestler PAC (Ben Satterley, 40). Tribute videos—resurfaced older clips and the promotion owner’s livestream speech—consistently received high engagement (roughly 400–700 likes). News of a death became the distinctive trigger for video virality today.
- What is growing: Gameplay and commentary clips from the just-released Silent Hill: Townfall grew independently across multiple accounts, a typical pattern in which short personal-streamer clips gain traction immediately after a game launch.
- What was surprising: Looking for viral videos on Bluesky produced almost no Japanese-language content. The only case found was a Japanese “#サイレントヒル” hashtag included alongside an English-language gamer’s post; the poster is not a Japanese-language account.
- Skeptical reactions: Accounts calling themselves “viral video” or “viral” accounts (@trendrush.bsky.social and others) were investigated, but nearly all had 0–5 likes and virtually no engagement. They were hashtag-spamming bot accounts unrelated to videos that were actually growing.
- Strength of the format: The two biggest like totals in the collection were “obituary + video” (PAC-related, 642 likes) and “animal + reposted Reddit video” (Fat Bear Week, 566 likes). Both are not original Bluesky posts but material brought in after gaining attention elsewhere, reinforcing Bluesky’s role as a venue for secondary distribution rather than primary viral-video creation.
Limits
- Bluesky’s official post-search API (
app.bsky.feed.searchPosts) consistently returned 403 Forbidden to anonymous access even for simple queries such asq=test, apparently due to a WAF block. The web version ofbsky.app/searchis also a JavaScript-dependent SPA whose fetched body is empty. - Bluesky’s official video-specific “Video” feed (
thevids) also returned 502 Bad Gateway throughout the day. The fallback used the official trending-topics API (app.bsky.unspecced.getTrendingTopics) and read only topics involving videos through individual feed APIs. - This method uses a pool of trending topics recognized by Bluesky’s AppView, centered mainly on English-language and North American content. No Japanese equivalent of “today’s viral videos” appeared among the 25 current trending topics. Japanese-focused “viral video” accounts such as @buzzreal9.bsky.social were also checked, but consisted solely of adult-advertising link posts with zero likes and were excluded.
- For these reasons, the brief’s target of 10 items was not reached: only 7 confirmed videos (5 effective topics) were found.
- Bluesky API responses do not include view counts for posts; only like, repost, and reply counts were available, so no view counts are listed above.
Lemmy
Lemmy — Today’s Viral Videos (researched 2026-09-29)
Communities
- !«メールアドレス» — 18,766 members. Its motto is “For sharing interesting videos from around the Web!” and it is the main place to search for viral videos on Lemmy. Its rules prohibit political content and clickbait.
- !«メールアドレス» — 22,551 members. It has many viral news articles, but is not a community for posting videos themselves; article links dominate.
- !nextfuckinglevel — Its latest posts stopped in May 2024, making it effectively inactive. No results this time.
- API searches across instances (
lemmy.world/api/v3/search?q=viral...) were also run, but most hits for “viral” were articles with the word in their headlines, with few posts containing actual videos.

“He escaped 😂” — A video of someone evading police pursuit on a bicycle. Posted by Ajuy in !«メールアドレス», 2026-09-25 21:38, 537 upvotes / 110 comments.
https://lemmy.world/post/52368372
The comments make its appeal clear: the top-upvoted comment says the rider used a video-game kiting strategy to pull the police away from the bicycle before mounting it and escaping, and many comments also make fun of the officer’s running. -
“This woman has nothing better to do” — A video of a customer at Burger King repeatedly and deliberately using the wrong pronouns for an employee, a trans woman, then filming and spreading it. Posted by Ajuy in !«メールアドレス», 2026-09-25 20:35, 150 up / 9 down (displayed as 141) / 61 comments.

Discussion centers on the absurdity of the person filming and spreading evidence of her own wrongdoing, as well as skepticism toward the customer who calls herself a “constitutional scholar.” -

“I'm the Mom in That Viral Giants Clip. Let Me Tell You About My Husband.” — A first-person rebuttal essay from Erika, the mother in an SF Giants broadcast clip where commentators joked that she was carrying her children and food while her husband did nothing. https://themomoftheyear.substack.com/p/im-the-mom-in-that-viral-giants-clip
The article does not give the original broadcast clip’s view count, but the Substack essay itself drew a reported “10,175 shares / 980 comments.” -
“CEO fired over viral photo of family in 'Lake America' sweatshirts” — Not a video but included for reference: a family photo went viral over a joke related to the Trump administration renaming the Great Lakes as “Lake America,” and the poster, a bank executive, was fired. !«メールアドレス», 2026-09-28, score 436 / 112 comments — the largest Lemmy engagement found during this research.
https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/ceo-fired-lake-america-michigan-picture-b3057174.html
This does not count toward the main video tally because it is a photo, but it illustrates the “goes viral and gets fired” format.
Signals
- The videos actually growing on Lemmy are live-action clips involving police, conflict, and disruptive customers from !«メールアドレス» (#1, #2). Rather than polished edits or sound-driven content, raw conflict and satisfying escapes tend to perform well.
- Almost no video has truly surged within the past 24–48 hours. The most prominent items (#1, #2) are both four days old (September 25). Lemmy’s distribution speed is clearly slower than Reddit or X.
- Political “viral video” stories—the Trump heckling and Prince Harry teleprompter items—have not grown on Lemmy yet. The articles are circulating, but community reaction is limited.
- The keyword “viral” is primarily used in news headlines, rather than in posts actively discussing or spreading the video itself.
Limits
- The completion target of 10 items with metrics was not met. Only the six posts above could be confirmed as video-related, and only five are actual videos (#6 is a photo). Lemmy is not fundamentally a video-sharing platform and has little culture of short videos surging within 24–48 hours like those on TikTok, YouTube, or X.
- !nextfuckinglevel and communities equivalent to !PublicFreakout could not be found as active communities on lemmy.world (!nextfuckinglevel stopped activity in 2024). Active same-name communities were not found on other instances (lemmy.ml, lemm.ee) either.
- Japanese search terms such as “videos that are buzzing” and “videos people are talking about” produced no relevant Lemmy results; Lemmy’s main language is English and Japanese communities are extremely sparse.
- View counts are unavailable in Lemmy’s API/UI; only upvote and comment counts are available. View counts for original videos on YouTube, X, and other sources are unknown unless stated in linked articles.
Recommended actions
- Do not fixate on the 24–48-hour requirement; set collection periods flexibly based on the limits of each platform’s discovery tools.
- Make digging into videos via Explore’s rising terms, rather than keyword search, the standard fallback procedure for X research.
- Add video-focused communities such as r/videos and r/PublicFreakout to Reddit research to avoid the bias toward India-related communities.
- For Bluesky, formalize collection through the trending-topics API as the fallback workflow on the assumption that the search API and video feed may be unavailable.
- Treat cross-platform reach itself as a strong indicator of virality for videos spreading across multiple social networks, such as the Irish armband-kiss video.
- Accept that Lemmy is not a primary arena for viral videos, and either lower the expected number of results or narrow the target communities next time.
Data quality notes
All five social networks fell short of the completion target of “10 items with metrics,” stopping at 7–9 items (5–6 for Lemmy). YouTube and Bluesky could not be collected directly because of JavaScript rendering and API failures (403/502), so alternative methods were used instead: Netlab articles for YouTube and the trending-topics API for Bluesky.
